Misaryeo,
Even if you give paracetemol and still hot, you still have to wait until 6hrs. Sometimes doc say 4 hrs. My girls just had a bout of throat infection too. Big one went up to 39.5. Some doc suggest brufen which is fast acting. But for the little one, they are not comfortable to give coz i guess too strong. Anyway, as long can control it from hitting 40 then keep cool ok. Doc says as long not floppy and drowsy is ok.
The suppository will lower temp (bullet) which has the same effect as the brufen ,but PD also reluctant to ues unless necc.....
High fever abt 3 days.
SPonging a child:
Close all windows/door to prevent draft from coming in. Strip child to diapers. Put child on a bath towel.Use NORMAL temp water. Take 5 small towels.
Place towel on forehead, both armpits, pelvic area where the pelvic joins the thigh (both sides). These are the HOT SPOTS. Keep on changing the towels, dipping in the cool water and squeezing dry before placing on all these spots. Continuosly do this every few min and check temp every 10/15min, 30/40min, etc . When the temp drops continuolsy for more than 2-3 takes, that means temp is dropping. I did that through the night for 2-4 hrs becoz fever temp hit the highest at night. Also upon medication, after the 2hr-4hrs mark, the temp start to go up quickly so do not be surprised by it.
This piece of advice is given to me by a medical nurse. IT is really helpful becoz it helps keep the child from burning to high. However, if hits 39.5, better head to the A& E, becoz babies can get fits/convulsions if temp to high ....Never give paracetemol lesser than 4hrs interval as it is damaging to the liver. Hope this helps...
I keep the suppository at home just in case, can get PD to give you :voltaren suppository 12.5mg (usage is half sup)Use if temp above 39 and use every 10-12 hrs.
