mspiggy,

Yes, that time YJ's temp also shot up at nite. Cough and flu normally accompanied by fever. Scary. Last tues am her temp shot to 39, 39.1 etc.. i waited and waited.. then 38+.. then when going 7 am, still 39! So i asked hubby want to bring her to KK or not.. my hubby say dunno how long the waiting queue is.. PD opening at 9 am.. but YJ was crying and crying.. then we no choice but to bring her down jalan jalan, and brought her on car ride.. then she slept in my arms and immediately body temp dropped to normal PHEW! Narrow escape!

Oh yah hor, thanks for the suggestion!

Another possibility is she got nightmare lor.. my mil's neighbour keeps a dog which barks very badly and sometimes it makes YJ jump, giving her a bad scare! And end up she can have nightmare, crying middle of the nite. Sigh!!

Luckily that's at the clinic while waiting to see PD, the nurse immediately inserted the SP for him. Seeing them suffer we really heart bleeds! How I wish am I the one sick instead *sigh*

mspiggy,

No leh, because after we go round in our car, YJ's temperature drop to normal le.. and no more fever thereafter..

i remembered one time YJ got pill inserted into anus too. That time really bad..

Why change FM? i think even if u change, he won't take it too.. when they are sick, they tend to lose appetite completely.. he got take any solids?

KK, MsPiggy,

Last nite, Kell woke up at 3-ish and her body was burning hot. Thermometer read 38.6 degree and I panicked manz immediately sponge her and she cried like mad. Today report to work with sleeply eyes. Worst still, got appointment later sigh getting my maid to sponge her every 60 minutes if by the time I get home, she still running a high temp, then have to report to KKH liao. Sigh

Mummy asked me to cook barley water without sugar and used that water for her milk ... but she also coughing badly and dunno whether barley will alleviate her situation or not ...

KK,
Usually if your child has high temp, the nurse at the triage in KKH will get you to go through the red door immediately where medical attention will be given.

Paula, Oh dear.... hope Kelly is feeling better now. Must be very tiring for you last night. *hugs*

if temp is still high, you gotta insert SP to bring the temp down... very effective. Else go buy Nurofen which is better and more effective compared to panadol

paula,

Does barley lead to phlegm? My mil also cooked barley water. And she also put green beans for more cooling effect. But YJ dun really like, so didn't drink sometimes.

When she is down with fever, ling yang works for her. Dunno whether u all dare to try ling yang or not. YJ got take ling yang whenever there is fever. But dun take too often. Take one day can le. Normally fever easily subsided after tat.

Ya, mspiggy is rite.. my PD also gave nurofen for YJ just in case high fever.. panadol works for less than 38.5.. after 38.5, nurofen got to come in.

MsPiggy,
Yea so tired today! BTW, I read that too much Brufen for young infants would cause kidney damage ... so I tried not to use that too oftern.

KK,
Barley is supposed to be cooling mah. So Kell is coughing very badly and has many many phelgms, so I worried that too cooling would worsen her coughing and phelgm lei.

re: sponging

paula,

if Kelly resists sponging, my personal feel is at 38.6 or below 39 deg, there is no urgent need to sponge her. May be stressing her needlessly. Instead, feed paracetamol (optional also depending on your own comfort level and your observation of her comfort level) and monitor temperature to drop within 1 hour. At above 39 deg, should use paracetamol and sponge or use suppository.

bacteria or virus growth are inhibited by high temperature in our body. Meaning the higher temperature actually is body defence to fight against the intruders. Thus, if the child is comfortable and not showing other symptoms, maybe can even dun feed paracetamol esp when fever below 39 deg. I use suppository immediately if the fever reach 39.4 and above. Below that, I either feed paracetamol or monitor the temperature constantly.

Wah.. so many babies fell sick ah... I had bad flu for past two weeks, and A started to get blocked nose two days ago. Last nite, started coughing. Scared scared he get sick leh...

mum2b,
Hugs hugs... Sorry to hear that you gotta turn back from the trip. Hope Feli gets well soon. Did she get the bacteria or virus before the flight already?

Paula,
A also dislikes to be sponged. What I do is, use energised water to wash his face and leave it to dry. Sometimes, also use hands to dap water to wipe on the back and let it dry. If really wanna sponge, the important areas are forehead, armpit, neck, and other joint areas.

mtdt,
I also have the little touch leappad. The booklets are quite resistant to rough play. kekeke... They will get crumpled only.

sunflower,
The little touch leappad is the one on the floor which A made J cried last Friday. A is usually very rough with the booklets. I bought 8 titles of the stories, only opened 2 so far. Will open the rest for him when he gets more gentle. kekeke...

aiyoh... seems like the virus is back huh.
sad.gif

hmm... dunno if u gals are comfy with TCM. after 3 rounds of bronchilites, i switch Zav to TCM (see EYS doc). must say that he is responding really well to TCM medi. so far, cough/phlem/runny nose - usu take abt 3days to recover. then KS me will still bring him to see PD at times just to be save that he is not having bronchilities and so far, his cough will recover before it became bad. but of cos if he have fever, i will still give western medi.

lyn - oh, so really proven tat can withstand the rough handling huh? :p I just put back the book into the box as I really scare he tear it! hahahha ok ok, i will take it out for zav to play again. :p

mtdt,
A dun really listen to the story, mainly the music. I have the "pooh loves you". Last time, on car trip to and from KL, he listened to those songs to fall asleep in the car. Now, when I sing the song or the music, he will go and find his little touch. Just take out one for rough play first lor...
