Celeste,

I want to put J there for language stimulation and immersion lor... not for academics cos frankly compared to many other cc I know, LW at least in PG and N1 level, is not as strong in terms of academics. They dun really do phonics till N2! Just as well, I also hope they have fun and play during the daily session. Its this that help them relax and become more confident socially. Weekend will be reserved for music and more academic enrichment.

paula,

me not good at negotiation

Updates on Cambridge Readers

Mummies, I have submitted your orders to Cambridge liao. They will revert on their final discounts to us by this Friday. Will update you again.

Tinklebell,
Dont be upset... you look fabulous already!

But if you looking for CNY clothings, I might be able to help (sales talk again) hehehee

Frankly, am looking at bringing in some maternity clothings. Need more discussions so not sure if can make it in time for CNY. :p

Poohy,
Would early exposure to phonics help J cos phonics exposed them to pronouncing the sounds of letters...

Dun worry about that Dev Assessment thingy. Just kidding. We will arrow that task to taiwanmama.com. Keke.

Paula,
thanks! btw, did sunflower contact you? she seems to be interested in getting the set

re zoophonics, the gals are going for trials if am not wrong?

frankly i havent started searching for PG yet.

paula,

I exposed J to phonics since ages ago... at least for the last 1 year plus liao. I teach her phonics alongside S. S knows all his phonetic sounds by 2 year old but need constant reinforcement to drill in... else can forget.

Paula,
thanks for all the suggestions. starting small now, if still can survive then might consider doing bigger. currently i have 1 partner.

1 thing i notice abt US suppliers, they dont bother even to reply our email (too small fry)

mspiggy,
trial for zoophonics?
sorry havent been catching up... but most of the trials r on weekdays right?

MMI at thomson area... is it good? i heard it replaced the previous one cos the previous owner got into some financial problem.

mspiggy,
i hope to find chinese playgroups if there r.
hope F doesnt grow into an ang mo kang dang just like her bro. i'm having so much prob with aaron's mandarin right now... giving me headache!!!

tinklebell, i didnt join that trial too.

re MMI @ thomson
my frd's nephew (my neighbour too) is attending full day CC right now. he loves it.. their activities are very interesting. he told me he has yoga classes! he's abt 3-4 YO now.

not too sure abt chinese PG... wanna Wes to learn more too. now he speaks mandarin with ang mo slang. hahahaa

tinklebell,

I read a lot of good review on Berriesworld.com chinese programme... and chinese edudrama from JG. My 2 kids are definitely going to either of those. I am going to put S in berriesworld since there is one nearby soon.

or u can consider chinese Playclub in JG.

poohy,
berriesworld is good in chinese prog?

hiaz ...i have this problem involving logistics of bringing to and fr the classes.

on sats i gotta bring aaron for his chinese and art classes ... we r thinking of adding abacus and swimming.

And sundays r reserved for family time so that leaves me with v little time to bring F to class
sad.gif

with 2 kids of different age gps, the focus is v different... feeling a bit stressed up with no 3 coming along and aaron starting p1 next yr... hopefully i can resolve that soon.

tinklebell,

ya can understand the problem of logistics cos I face that also. I can never find enough time to do all that I wanted to do. And there is so much things I wanted them to learn. But I had learnt to prioritise liao... else I myself die first cos I am getting very stressed if there is too much activities on weekend and I love family time lazing at home.

berriesworld is supposed to be quite good in their chinese lessons and I read many good reviews in the Year2003 mummies thread. Its inexpensive and have centres in a number of places ! I dun need to travel to town! Big plus. I am thinking of putting S in the berries world afternoon class once a week on weekday eventually when he is more settled. That way, weekend can have more free time.

In time, I may even do away with shichida class... both me and S getting sian of the lesson liao. And then let S start his suzuki violin class if the class start successfully. Thankfully J is younger so at the moment, I think daily playgroup should suffice.

I put them in similar classes to minimise my travel. Like now, J goes to JG playclub at 9-11am while S goes to JG edudrama at the same place from 10-11am. So by 11am, I am a free bird liao! haha When J stop JG playclub, I will put her in JG edudrama at the same timing as S... then we go to 1 single class will do. I took away swimming from J as I am bringing them to swim on my own ... family time
happy.gif
I really really hope somehow in time I can figure out how to structure the time in such a way I can keep sundays totally free so that we can go to church.

Dun worry too much... as long as the basics are covered... eg. english, maindarin, maths... the rest are enrichment that are good to have. Nothing beats the family bonding time ... I have come to realise both the children and us are happiest when we get to laze around on weekends
happy.gif

oops, didn't mean to complain abt the luggage, it's fine, nothing went missing or else I wun dare to poke my head in here, yikes.

i may "abscond" with the Goods... no, am kidding, MIA awhile til Mich returns since I haven't a clue what goes to whom. Ahboy ill
sad.gif
, yest & today vomitted due to cough... will be spending more time with him n even lesser online.

Paula,
Wah... that CM so "tao" ah. If cannot pay, will not even bother to go there for tour lor...

Poohy,
How to know if toddler is speech delayed?
I was wondering if two or multiple languages will delay "speech development". I realised that those kids who are exposed to mainly one language, tend to be able to speak faster and more. My A is exposed to two languages, and he's not speaking a lot. I dunno if I should be worried. Or will he be speaking both languages one fine day? I also let him listen to those sawako in different languages. Secarly he's speaking in those languages which I do not even know!
Does words in mandarin and English be counted as his vocabulary? Or does it gotta be strictly only one language?
I am wondering if the speech therapist's assessment is skewed towards being perfect scores?
I think most speech therapy concentrate on phonics and vocabulary. My nephew went for speech therapy before and really very expensive. Some more lucky to get time slot!
Prof Shichida's recommendation for weaning is pretty fast too, cos it will affect speech development. 8 months old gotta wean off milk bottle completely, and by 1 year old or earlier already eating what adults eat! I find it too fast for my comfort level. For my convenience, A is still drinking milk from bottle.
Oh yes... I just remembered Glen Doman mention in his book to improve speech, crawl on all 4 more often
happy.gif

KOng,
How to start raw salad? How to get them interested? A is not interested in my salad
sad.gif

Okie... gotta go... catch up again. A is soooooooooo sticky to me now
sad.gif

mummies, can share tips on travelling with our tots, have just confirmed tokyo trip in Feb. But feeling nervous about it...Grrrh.

By the way, called up Creative O this evening. The lady who picked up the phone sounded unfriendly. I asked her if I could drop by to visit the center. She said no. Can only view the center from 10.30am to 3.30pm from Tuesday to Friday. I asked her if I could just pop by to have a quick look. She said no (quite rudely). It rubbed me off and I commented that whilst I understand the rationale behind their policy but I found it so unfriendly for working mothers. Then she asked, how old is your child? I said 19 months. Then she asked, which year was she born in. I responded 2006. She said that they only accept child aged 2 years and above but the child needs to be toilet trained. So I asked, is it possible for me to drop by on Monday afternoon as I will be on leave then? She said no. You have to make appointment. I said, I am trying to make an appointment here. Then she responded, you have to make appointment during our viewing hours so that we could make arrangements. Then I said, don’t bother then. Haha.

Am I unlucky or what? Just commented to hubby that we better move soon. Sigh.

lyn,

while doing some research, indeed there has been finding that if we speak 2 languages to kids, they "develop" speech slightly slower. But if their cognitive skills are on time, it should not raise too much alarm.

I am taking the speech therapist's observation with a pinch of salt. To go full blast into treatment or whether its really needed at this moment, I will have to go for multiple opinion to confirm... just me lah. Most importantly, I only wanna know that she does not display any neurological problem like autism for example. As long as she dun... I am not overly worried. I always feel that a mother's instinct and observations of her own children is the most accurate and thus, I do think J does need more reinforcement on our part but not to the point where I will go for weekly therapy especially if its too exp.
happy.gif
I hope she will get to improve and develop more naturally in the playgroup setting.

Development depends much on individual... speech is not just the sound they articulate... it start with the acquisition of cognitive skills. My SIL's twins are 2 month plus older than J and they too, hardly talk much.

I read that Einstein talks at 3. There are many type of speech delay reasons (I am trying to read a book to find out more... will share with u when I am done with it
happy.gif
)

Btw, though I wean J off pretty late, she started semi solid at 8-9month. But by 1 year old or 13 month ... she is already eating what we eat. Now, she eat anything we eat.. we dun cook specially for her. I thought that will have given her enough exercises for oral muscles... sigh

Jacque,
Yep, she is attending their bilingual class. Quite fun just that she always Yswitch off during Chinese lesson. Good thing is that she has shown quite a good capability in finishing the project work all by herself, despite the youngest in the class and when the 2 years old still need mum and dad to help them out. Very funny, in the first lesson of the term, there were taught ‘ma yi’ as in ants in English. Today she saw an ant and went very beautifully ‘ants’ instead of ma yi. Hahaha….

You have enough winter clothing? Might want to get those heat pads for the little one too.

morning mummies,

mspiggy, wow... you started your own business? sometimes i wonder how some of our amazing mummies find time to do so many things, while looking after our tots....

J is down with running nose... last nite, he din sleep well, and of cos, I was affected too... thank goodness my mum is here today to assist.
happy.gif
i can't live without my mum...
happy.gif

paula, more research on PG? my colleague swear by Eton House, SJK, and Maris Stella...

Poohy, i really think J is doing fine.
happy.gif
she is such a cutie.... so are you starting in Feb? will you be there for the 1st week? maybe you can observe my J as well... ke ke....

Toto,
Yea, I heard that Eton house is good and monthly school fee is estimated at SGD1285 a month. I thought I saw S$5000 a month but when I did a check just now … then it is about Pat’s Schoolhouse range. Haha. Aiyah, it is important to ensure that she will be placed in a school with good environment than everything else. For now… I will settle her in a good playgroup that offers a nice and cozy environment with many things to play and good, caring teachers. When she is about 2.5 years old, then move her to Learning Ladder.

Poohy,
are you there? is the clinic called olive tree clinic? do you have the tel? my frd is keen to bring her son for assessment.

toto,
i'm been wanting to start something for the longest time. opportunity just happened recently and thought why not... just have to scarifice abit of my beauty sleep. Thank God Wes sleeps early so leaves me more time to do my things after he went to bed. Hopefully this will work out... now it's trial and error phase
