Re: Tsunami
Hmmmm... juz to share.. not sure if you mommies know... but i happened to come across a documentary on naked science on our moon.

There was this scientist using the full moon theory to prove when the major earthquake will strike.

It is juz like the theory of the high and low tide.

Of course, he has a reason.

In the documentary it touches on the fact that moon is slowly drifting away from Earth and thus resulted in the numerous cases of weird weathers in Altantic... then this scientist uses the calculation on how moon rotates the Earth. Didn't know moon travels around Earth in oval-like shaped. So at certain point of time, it would be closer to EArth and certain time not.

So, conincidentally, if it is a full moon, and it happens to be close to Earth, the gravity is so strong that it is possible to cause earthquakes due to movement of crusts.

He predicted the Pakistan major earthquake and the Indonesian's Boxing Day earth quake where both happened to be on a full moon where the moon is closest to Earth!

What is interestingly and yet scary is yesterday happens to be 15th lunar day of the month!

Guess if want to plan a trip to seaside area, better make sure that it is not happened to be 15th day of the month!

Re: Refusal of milk
Hmmm... could it be the taste of the milk?

Xuanting sometimes refuse milk for couple of hours after she woke up. Yet, as she simply refuses to take much porridge nowadays and so she would be hungry enough by afternoon to take milk again.

This girl is really notty.

Now, even noe how to shake her head to tell ppl "no".
kao_dizzy.gif

Re: Feeding at night
Though she is coming to a year old, she is still waking up at night to eat.

If I can keep her eyes closed to drink the milk at night, she would easily go to sleep. Else, she would want to sit up and look around and play a while before going to sleep.

So, my mom and I are also "panda bears".

Hi mel_lim, may I knw where do u get the agar agar? My girl's bday party is coming soon (this Sat). Still can't decide where to buy the cake for her. I looked into the forum n saw a few recommendations. One is the Cake Avenue. Anyone tried tht before? I am really a klutz when it comes to ordering of cake. We r expecting abt 140 ppl and really hope it doesn't rain on tht day as it's a poolside party.

Just a check with anyone here do use Pull Up Pants for ur baby girl. I got this few samples of MamaPoko, Huggies and other brands of pull up pants. Used it on my girl and after 2 hrs or so, when I want to change her diaper, I always realize she has this extreme redness in her private area. Do anyone encounter such a problem?

mom_yam

Perhaps you may want to replace Issac's milk feed with other milk products such as yogurt, smoothie, cheese etc for now.. just to make sure that he gets sufficient nutrients

pentupmum,

My girl has been using huggies pull up pants.. so far so good.. can wear for very long somemore.. think your girl might be allergic to mamypoko pants

hunniepot, even she uses huggies, it's still the same. Is it due to lack of air circulation? Seriously, I dun knw. But 1 thing for sure is that, my baby really does have sensitive skin. Btw, how old exactly is Amanda? She looks pretty big for a april child. I think my baby will look very small if she's going to sit in this trolley.

Thks, mel_lim, will call the lady up. Does she do delivery?

momyam, I think I will be able to join u guys in the Botanical Garden trip on 21st April. Most probably will be driving. Just wondering are there anyone staying in Simei or Tampines, so also can give them a lift there? Errm, who is the organizer of the trip? And any food tht I can bring for all to eat?

pentupmum,

yes the price incl delivery.

i recently switch to huggies from nepia and J does have redness on the tip of his penis too. huggies is definitely not as absorbant as nepia.

also, which diaper rash cream u using? we apply diaper rash cream over the redness and it disappear the next day.

Last time the redness was really bad and the doctor prescribed her a cream and when I checked on the website on the contents, I realized it's a form of steriod. However, the redness was subsided within hours; but wasn't recommended. Now using NeoCreme. It's good. I dun see it on the shelfs outside, but 1 tube can last very long.

Does Nepia has pull up pants? Last time I used Nepia and it was good. But the cons here is tht, the absorbent pad behind the diaper only covers up to a certain length n it doesn't work for my girl. Most of the diapers are the same. ∴ I swtiched to MamaPoko, but the diaper has a very funny smell So now, using Huggies now.

Hi pentupmum,

Amanda is actually a March baby.. 1 year 2 weeks old now. She is pretty tall at 78 cm, so looks big for her age

I used nepia pull up pants b4 but find that the elastic portion around the waist pretty tight for Amanda.. so switched to huggies.. so far so good

RE: Diaper Cream

Im using Desitin and Burt's Bee Diaper Cream..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ENYA!!!!

One of the more messy feeding times

Wow... U let Armanda eat like tix?

I can't stand mess le... how? No wonder, Xuanting hates to eat porridge or sit down to be fed....

Playgroup

My sister has suggested that I let Shawn go to playgroup when he turns 2. It may be fine for them to stay home when they are younger, as everyday is a learning experienc, but once they turn 2, there might be a need for more external stimulation. Her 3 kids go to Brighton Montessori at Fort Road. For me, I have also registered Shawn for half day playgroup at Brighton Montessori for 2008. Very kiasu hor :p

momyam,
Did you try flavoured milk? Shawn was taking Pediasure, but now taking Enfagrow (vanilla flavour). He drinks the vanilla milk more willingly now. U might want to try
happy.gif

Evon

Bo bian.. she refuses to be eat solids.. always reject after the first 2 to 3 mouthful.. then she will start to play with the food, dip her hands into the porridge and stand playing 'mahjong' with the porridge on the table.. thats why so messy.. dont want to be fed but try to feed herself.. thats why all her clothes kena.. and i had to throw this top away after that meal

Mom_yam & Hunnie

Aiden started to refuse his Enfapro since last Saturday. Used to be able to finish 150-180ml in the afternoon (together with baby bites biscuits) and 200ml at night, now he like want to run away when he see me coming with a mug of FM in hand. Takes a few sips and then refuse to open his mouth after that. He does not take more than 4oz of FM a day, really worried.

I'm really in despair, dunno how to make him like his milk. Really envy those mummies who babies are formula milk addicts. Mine is a BM addict thru and thru. My supply is dropping, and I want to wean him off by 1 yr old cos he likes to bite my nipple, really REALLY PAIN!!

Going to try Enfagrow tonight, see if he likes. If not, got to resort to Pediasure Choco and see how.

Hunnie

That was an awful mess on Amanda.... really salute u for being able to tolerate such a mess! Think I'll faint if Aiden does the same thing.

tanwawas,

RE: Rejecting Milk

Hey.. dont mean to scare you.. but that happened to Amanda b4.. I tried bfree bottles on her for the first time a few months back and she happily took in NAN and dumex FM for 2 to 3 weeks.. was so happy then... and out of the blue she decided that she doesnt want to take in FM anymore and started rejecting bottle and FM.. see the bottle like see poison like that.. so try to maintain your BM supply first..

Tanwawas, at least yrs still have BM addict. MINE completely no nei nei gian anymore. Sob sob!

Now he want solid than nei nei, now most of my FM are into cereal or potatoe or fish white sauce. Tmr is the day i will start the Pediasure Choco coz' the most diff part is the afternoon slot.

Just now he sees me eat porridge he also wan to have a few mouth. But right i take his milk he let out a scream and run away from me! wow liao that is what you call POSION in his imagination.

I'm DESPERATE to get him to drink milk coz' i felt that is still more impt in this area. Hunniepot, i'm giving cheeze in potatoe or cheeze with bread but he wont take much. Yohurt is another thing i've given now NEXT I'm aiming is cod liver oil with i notice it has DHA and calcium as well.

Hunniepot, i've NO COURAGE & GUTS to let Isaac self feed. I wonder will he throw the porridge on me instead into his mouth haha

Mom_yam,
Yah, I agree with you! Now when I see Aiden trying to grab the spoon from his bowl of porridge, I quickly snatched the whole thing away! Bad mummy hor? I really cannot imagine how my house (and me) will look like when he starts to self-feed.

But our babies gotta start somewhere right? It's now or later; we can run but we cannot hide! We need to muster up courage to face this.

At least u got maid to clean up after Isaac; I only got poor old me to do it. Or got to summon hb to do it lor.

Milk is still very impt at this stage. I gave him Enfagrow just now, made 220ml from the sample sachet, he drank 140ml nia. Not bad liao lah. I took a sniff of the milk, and it's not as icky-smelling as Enfapro. I planning to skip his cereal tomm morning, and let him drink Enfagrow. Gotta cut down on his solids so that, hopefully, he'll increase his milk intake.

Yoghurt - failed, he doesn't like.
Cod liver oil - can try, but no high expectations on my boy. It's very very good for our babies though, builds up strong immunity.

Hunnie,
I'm kinda surprised that despite lesser direct latch, my BM supply still hung in there. Aiden can latch and make gulping sounds for several minutes, so I reckon that he is indeed downing good amts of BM. Sometimes when he latches, he'll make "mmm mmm" sounds, sounded like he is on a "high".... very funny!

Hi ladies,

ENYA IS ONE TODAY!!!

Thanks for all the well wishes. Busy me just got home at 9pm to do a little celebration for her. Hope that it is not like that every year.

Enya got 1 big Baluku the night before her birthday. I came home late after work and she was sleeping. Then she heard my voice, panic and fell off the bed. I was so guilty. Thinking of moving her to sleep in her playpen. But she doesn't want. Anyone got any idea how?

Hunnie,
Is this how Amanda eats every meal? Like that you very "siong". Lots of clean up to do!

tanwawas, feeding isaac is very xiong lei. got to do everything fast. u didnt see me how i fed him during the bb bash w/o maid right, one hand toy, one hand catch him from falling off the high chair, one hand wiping his face, one hand feed him water, one hand trying to clear the mess, one hand trying to make him swallow his food.......haha.

Back home everything has to be nicely standby before feeding war comes.
Wet tissue, his towels, his water, kitchen towels standby.

Feed him and quickly clear the mess at the same time. coz' right after the feed, one got to clear him, one got to clear the place before he comes back and enjoy himself in the "mud".

I'm lucky if the food he likes and he will eat w/o much fuzz. food that lost his interest he will throw out before the food is being chewed!

In a way, yes i'm blessed with a maid coz' my HB SIMPLY wont lift a finger to help me anything in the house. not even to clearing the food area. coz' me and my maid will be back to the room pining him down while change him. while in my heart praying hard that after the change he wont go back to the "mud" fun.

I may consider to change the brand of him FM AGAIN. If i change the brand this time it will be his 6th brand in a year (S26 - Friso - Enfrapro - Similac - Gain) *shake head*

mommies still BF, something to share...

Though they tend to have rounder more developed cheek muscles developed from sucking, breast fed infants gain weight at a slower rate than bottle fed infants especially after 6 months of age. Breast fed infants weight for height may be 60% below the average (50th percentile) found on commonly used infant growth charts. Their fat stores may be 60% below the average. Breast fed infants tend to be leaner than formula fed infants from 9 to 15 months of age. This is believed to be due to a lower calorie and protein intake by breast fed infants.

It appears that infants regulate how much breast milk they drink rather than the cause being an inadequate milk production by the mother. The lower calorie intake and weight gain of breast fed infants is not related to their development, activity or illness either. Breast fed infants calorie intake is usually below the recommended amounts even in optimal environments and even with the addition of solid foods. A mother's BMI (estimate of percent body fat) appears to determine the mother's breast milk fat content, but infants seem to compensate for varying amounts of breast milk fat by altering the amount they drink. The amount of calories a breast fed infant consumes is not related to the age that solid foods are introduced as long as the infant continues to breast feed.

...and on salt and sugar intake
Children do not need added salt or added sugar in their food. There is enough sodium and sugar in uncooked food for anyone, unless they are vomiting, have diarrhea or a fever.

One-fourth teaspoon of salt contains 533 milligrams of sodium. Children one to eighteen years of age need a minimum of 225 to 500 milligrams of sodium according to the 1989 Estimated Minimum Requirements. These amounts can be met by feeding children food cooked without added salt. The average adult needs only 2,400 milligrams of sodium or less per day. When reading a label for sodium content, limit your food purchases to foods containing less than 400 milligrams per serving.

Hi April mummies,
I'm from the June mummies thread.
Most of yr babies are turning 1 or had turned 1, congrats.
I'm planning a birthday party for my boy too. Any good caterer or bakery to recommend? I've empirefood for caterer and ecreative for cake in mind, any comments?

Tracy,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ENYA!

This was how she ate when she wants to play with her food instead of eating.. and when I try to let her self feed herself.. but Im really tired of cleaning up the mess, so stopped self feeding for awhile... that was not the worse.. there was this time.. her food was all over her entire body plus the floor... was too fed up to snap any pics then... like what mom_yam does.. nowadays I standby 2 towels, 1 to wipe the high chair right after she dirties it and 1 to wipe her body as she is eating.. easier to clear up the mess...

tanwawas,

Same same leh.. Amanda is a super nei nei addict.. she must latch on b4 she sleeps.. there was this once I was out attending a friend's wedding dinner and she was pretty sleepy at 11 plus pm.. and she cried non stop despite my hubby pacifying her.. the moment I came back.. latch her on and she fell asleep.. she also makes those mm mm sounds when latching on.. like super high like that!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EZRA & my little girl YU EN!!!

Sad that i can't celebrate or even kiss her on her birthday, cos i will only back tomorrow. Anyway, will give her a BIG KISS when i reach home tomorrow. Hopefully she still remember me (cos already away for 2 weeks).
And will celebrate her birthday on this coming Saturday...hopefully everything went fine (cross finger hard hard).

SELF FEED! ok i just pick up my courage and do it this weekend. Wish me luck!

self feed - i have no prob letting him self feed on biscuit, bread and fruits. but comes to porridge .. i really dont have that BIG courage, like what tanwawas u said i cant hide fm this prob for life. coz' i dont him to be spoilt like now. when it comes to me feeding him milk, he insist i hold for him. whereas my maid feed him, he is willing to take on his own. Grrggghhh.

Tanwawas, wanna join me self feed challenge hahaha. or maybe we go hunniepot house to do the fun hee heee...

hunniepot, when u doing the swissroll BP again!!

mom_yam

You want to makan the swiss rolls ah? Can
happy.gif
But I lost the lady's contact number.. anyone has her contact details? Can be found on the swiss roll box.. if not.. need to get my old hp back from my dad and retrieve the no...

Wah! Haha.. cannot imagine triple the mess! *faint*

Mom_yam
Much as I like to, I don't think I can "join" you this weekend. This son of mine is not ready for self-feed. When I said he reach out for the spoon, it means he wants to play with the spoon and smear any fallen porridge on the floor/high chair/my face. He is not interested in self-feeding at all. Tried to stuff the Baby bites biscuit into his hand, he dun wan to take it leh. Lazy boy lah. Guess I can postpone this "fun" activity for a few more weeks! Whew!

Good luck to you! YOU NEED IT! Get that messy mat out and cover a good 2sqm of floor area! Not enough, use newspaper.

Formula brands - u got only Promil Gold and Dumex left to try. Dumex smelt ok, not as weird-smelling as Enfapro. U can give it a try.

Hunnie,
Care to lend me your premises when Aiden finally decides to self-feed? I'm sure our lil' A's will have a lot of fun messing up the house together.... heehee

I've been a bad mommy today. Decided to let Aiden 'detoxify' by skipping lunch. Prepared a big mug of FM in replacement. After one hr of mild struggling, he finished the FM! Wah, I never felt so pleased in my life!

Hi Ladies
mia a few days as was on course...& most sad is that despite being a hands on computer course, there's no internet facilities..so i really bored to death there :p

RE: Birthday Party
We finally decided to hold a small b/d party for Ivec at home..initially wanted to throw a lunch gathering at Marche this Sun but not everyone will b around so bobian loh..anyway, on a positive note, at least we can let Ivec sleep when he gets cranky..& my decos will b put into gd use! I'm still thinking on how to decorate the place..suggestions beside the usual balloons & photos??
We will be ta boing e food in since only 8 persons..so beside e usual stuffs like pizza, kfc, anyone got interesting suggestions to share?? Need help in this area sia...crack my head thinking what to get for the food.

Shylyn

i did thot of going to the talk..but not sure if it's gud..been to few talks b4, find it quite commercial..a waste of my time n effort to go all the way down..

Petite

Many thanks for taking the trouble to mail the CDs out..Am sooo looking 4ward to receive the CD!!

Self Feed,
I have got a great idea. Maybe I should strip my son naked, put the high chair inside my shower area and let him self feed there. If he make a mess, I just on my shower and bath him and wash the shower area at the same time. Muahahaha.

Thanks les_petite, viewing the photos now.

shylyn,

Which design and flavour did you get? If not up to expectations, dont blame me hor?
happy.gif

I will be attending the seminar.. sounds good.. fussy eaters and discipline.. just what I need to listen to..

tanwawas,

Can! But you got to stay back and help me clean the place hehe.. Let Amanda self feed again yesterday.. cooked omelette with chicken, peas, carrots and corn with rice.. and tried to let her feed using her hands from the bowl, but she ended up turning the bowl over, so we just put some food on the feeding tray and she was so happy to feed herself.. and of course.. I had a hard time showering her again.. (food was stuck in her hair too) washing her high chair.. picking the food bits from all over the floor.. then cannot tahan.. mopped the house and the kitchen... and only finished cleaning up at 10 plus pm!

Wow! Hunniepot, i really admire u. I read abt letting our babies ard this age to eat by themselves. I told my hubby abt it n guess his response was pretty negative. I realize that even when I sounded this idea to my mum n other friends, they were practically saying it's not a good idea to do so as the baby's movements are not that co-ordinated, which I do agree. However, if u dun let them start now, I really wonder when. Take for an instance for my baby, she can't even hold a biscuit and eat on her own. The most ironic thing is that, things u want her to put in her mouth, she doesn't put; things u dun want her to put, she die-die always want to put.

Hunnie
Try Draik's method... really good idea lor. Eat, make a mess, and get showered from head to toe at the same place. Saves u the hassle of picking up bits from the floor, etc etc. And u can get an earlier night instead of cleaning up till 10pm plus.... poor u
sad.gif

Petite
Thanks for the photo link. I think u send the CD ROM to me cos I think Rach missed my post to join in the trial session for 13 April, so I have joined another one on my own at Harbourfront which is nearer my place anyway, and hb can drive us there cos it's on a sunday. Any mummies want to join can PM me. It's this coming Sunday at 2pm.

Formula milk
My fickle-minded little guy is starting to take his FM again, I'm so relief! Hope this phenomenon continues! **keep fingers crossed**
