(2006/04) April 2006 MTB

Reading so many threads abt bb crys, mine also cry and scream real bad at times. Esp when he wants to slp, his scream is really uncontrollable. Ytd, on our way to bring him out to kai kai, suddenly he cry so badly in the car coz' he wants to slp. End up we have to stop on the road side just to clam him down. I really feel very helpless and stress when his cry is non stop and nothing is able to bring him down earlier. felt worst when i try to latch him to pacify him, he cry even louder. Sobs...

Koalarie, most likely i will buy the book u mentioned.. but i scare i dont have the time to read hee...

Heehee... guess we all the same la.. according to book, once we see bbs entering into drowsy signs, we need to start to soothe bb to sleep. If ur bb becomes cranky, take note of time; ard tix time next day, start half hour earlier to soothen him/her to sleep. That's what i read.

The book's rule is one-two hour of wakefulness only.

Seems something like tat.. still reading.

Babe,
it's all practice i guess.. For me, I didn't practice hard enuf on breastfeeding.. haiz.

Anyway, Xuanting's now sleeping.. mom said it's k of working at her side now.. hopefully, when I bring her back this Wed, I dun disrupt her sleeping schedule.

Mel,
Got from library. Reserved one. =p

Think can borrow from library first instead of buy. But saw the book selling at Robinsons.. so if mommies want to buy, can go get.. if i remembered last week got 20% discount.. not sure abt tix week.

Hello Koalarie,

I'm a May06 Mom and happened to read this thread, juz when i was quite frustrated on how to get my bb to sleep(!). haha...

U mentioned the book says not to wake baby up from sleep during the day? Hmmm, maybe bcos i did that (tot it's feeding time dats y wake her up), so end up now she can't sleep more than 30mins
sad.gif
By the way, does ur baby sleep everyday in the daytime? How long each time?
happy.gif
Mine some days sleep long, some days sleep veri short intervals - while some days dun sleep at all(!) during the day...
sad.gif

Hi Chenoa,

Hanson also feeds every 2 hours.
But becos i am a FTWM, my mum use the bottle during the day. He takes 2.5oz to 3 oz each feed..
Each time, he will take ard 20min to complete

I latch him on at night and he takes about 5 min only...maybe sleepy/tired. For the past 1 week, he's learning to sleep through the night.

Last night he sleep at around 12am (last feed, latch on 5 min). He sleep until 6am this morning.
I latch on again for another 5 min.

When he suckle at my breast, I can hear him swallow ("good" "good" "good") sound quite loud. He stop when he is contented then i burp him. After that, he sleep soundly till about 8.30am.

Matched Gal
No la. I just picked up the book becoz my bb dun sleep in daytime since confinement auntie left n begining to b fussy sometime in her 2nd month.. saw a thread on tix prob n some mommies mentioned tix book n so i went to borrow.

Me still learning le.

Waking up bb to eat is k.. but book dun recommend us becoz we want to play with bb n wake bb up or to disrupt his/her sleep. BB will noe n won't want to sleep as he/she wants to play.

It sounded logical as I think I did wrongly somewhere before confinement auntie was around and since then i suffered.

So far, only started practicing since last Friday evening. Saturday, she slept for almost 20h! Sunday, becoz mil wants to see her so put her there.. but my mil all dunno how to make her sleep and carried her and played with her, making her confused again and so Monday she was abit nottie. Today, so far, so good. =p

I am crossing my fingers on it.

That's why if to follow the book, a bit the strict and I may end up upsetting my mil as well in order to protect my bb's sleep schedule n pattern.

Will see how la.

But I do agree tat a morning and afternoon nap would really make bb less fussy. At least so far, it seems tat she's much happier n can play by herself when she's awake. =p

Ah yo...

I really m amazed how ur bbs can sleep thru' the nites w/o waking in the middle for feeds.. some more (correct me if I am wrong) most bbs sleep thru' re on breastmilk?

My bb so automatic.. 4h definitely hungry one.

Haiz.

Tix was the thread i saw that time.
http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/messages/36738/407139.html?1145947152

Forget to mention.. though xuanting still wakes up to eat.. but i noticed tat if she sleeps well, she oso eats well.. last time, i complained in thread tat she ate at least an hour on only 120ml (with burping and break twice as well)? Now? Very good... less than 30 minutes all done. Sometimes 15 minutes finished everything n i can go back sleep...

So happy for me on the weekend nights when I took over.

Lucas still cant sleep thru the nite yet. His feeding interval still cant last more than 5hrs. I still have to wake up in the middle to latch him.

Koalarie/Elle,
My bb 3-4hr also automatic hungrie one. Elle, how u manage to train ur bb to sleep thru' the nite? *envy ah*...

Koalarie,
Oh i c... I actually read up on Gary Ezzo's "On Becoming Babywise", but the methods he recommend is more towards the "cry it out" type. U so lucky leh, ur bb can sleep 20hr. Yah, there are surely disruptions to schedules, but according to Ezzo, we can re-adjust their feed/wake/nap times so that there is minimal impact on the cycle-times. Of course, all this is by theory. Tink practical not so easy - takes alot of patience & time to train ah.

I was tinking, even if i train and successfully implement it, when i go back to work how ah. My caretaker may not follow my 'schedule' or training method leh... sighz...

matched gal
no worries.

U observed ur bb sleep pattern n shared with ur caretaker. Best is to find a caretaker with no other bbs/toddlers ard, if possible.

B4 all these practices, my mil suffered so badly tat she gave up looking after my bb as she didn't sleep much in daytime n sometimes mil has to practically carry her to sleep!

Then when my mom took over, she dun believe what i share with her on xuanting's sleep behaviour n used her own methods n found that xuanting super cranky.. till i told her when xuanting would normally sleep.

Actually an hour is rather good... the book mentioned anything less than an hour is not called a nap.

Think there is a book called something-cry solution.. seems to b using the exact same appraoch as this book as well.

Anyway, my bb got "complained" when i placed her to sleep during weekends.. guess quite normal la.

<font color="aa00aa">re: sleeping through the night</font>
strangely, ever since K had her jab last tuesday, she's started sleeping at least 8 hrs everynight, when previously she could only manage 4-5hrs at a stretch. keeping fingers crossed that this new pattern lasts......
happy.gif

<font color="aa00aa">re: day sleep</font>
i'm going to try koalarie's method today. i'll try to put her to sleep every 2hrs, think it's gonna be hard
sad.gif
. i find she only takes long-ish naps (ie. >0.5-1hr) if i lie down next to her. will update you all on my progress.

evon,

my boy sleep thru since wk8 and he is on FM. adjusting the timing but not so strict. i used the differentiate day and night method.

now his last feed is 11 or 11.30 and wake up btw 8-8.30am. at times overslept till 9plus if i on aircon 1hr in the morning 4 him.

miu66,
not my mtd la.. the book's method. =p

Ok.. good luck.

BTW Won't recommend to follow strictly 2h. Once u see ur bb going into drowsy sign, u can try to coax bb to sleep already. Definitely bb will complain one.. at least mine did for quite a while but eventually next few rounds she complained slightly less.

So happy here got so much discussion. Heehee..alot to learn..

Kolarie, admire u lehz..baby can sleep so well. Mine so far nap 30 min. Erm..if the saying that bb can be awake only 1-2h, then mine abit jiat liat...coz after wake will play abt 1h then eat..after that still quite wakeful till another 1+ hr then will nap

babe,
only the begining lo.
Mine sama sama like urs too.. but i make sure she nap a while b4 she eats, even if 15~30 minutes. Coz last time she was so frustrated tat she kept pushing bottle away and wailed though she's hungry as she wanted to sleep if she's been awake for too long. That was few weeks ago.

Anyway, all bbs different.. so we will share any interesting thing tat we found n worked on our bbs lo.. so tat we can learn n try n error. =p

Babe,
My boy also dun nap alot. wake up, play then eat, then play, then sleep.

Read from a book, having a wakeful baby is not necessary bad, coz they are always learning when they are awake. Wakeful babies are usually brigher babies!

It may be tiring for us, but look at the positive side.

eh, now i on the aircon, my bb sleeping for about 1 hr oreadi leh ;p hehe... but oni now she slp... other days hard to get her to slp leh...

Koalarie,
Yah, i do notice the difference when bb's get enuff sleep - less fussiness and more alertness during their wake time
happy.gif
Actually i read somewhere (another book) says that babies enter REM (rapid eye movement) sleep first rather than non-REM movement (opposite of adults). Each lasts 30mins - i tink dats y the book u read up says if nap less than 1 hr is not really nap...
happy.gif

nap:
i find my gal take quite long nap le...about 1 - 2 hour ... but sometime she will wail in between, may be she dream something bad bah....

tiffany - you are right abt wakeful bb is not necessary bad. this is one of the traits of a high need bb. the downside is they sleep lesser but nurse more often thus making mummies more tired but the up side is that they are brighter bb coz being awake means learng more. that is why after understanding this i no longer frustrated with my boy for sleeping so little.

But i still wish he can sleep more so as to spare up more time for me.....they sleep 10 min dun even have enough time for me to take a bath....sigh

Hmmm... so is every baby different? Or does every baby need an average about 12-16hr sleep a day? *confused*... Tink maybe there are two schools of tots... some PDs believe that need to keep them awake during the day to enable better sleep at nite, others believe that need to give them good sleeping habits in the day in order for them to sleep at nite...

Mrs Ho,
wow.. so good.. bb can sleep an hour to two? Wish Xuanting could.

Xuanting too will wail.. in fact, she will wake up when she got such "fright" or "dream". I noe she wants to sleep but always got scared during daytime.

Matched_gal, yap.. the book oso mentioned abt it.

Actually practically quite true even on adults. IF we adults nurse bb, rest less than an hour, would oso b moody.. but if one shoot, nap for an hour more, wake up feel better.

It's not bb awaking not good.. but rather it's more rest helps us to ve better immunity, better attention span when awake. Applicable to we adults too.. especially since I used to work with standby 24hours and flying to different parts of the world.

Heehee... sometimes.. i wish my bb dun sleep that early, then i can come back home to play with her after work on Wednesdays-Fridays.

matched gal,
different bb different. Got to trial &amp; error lo.

But tix book got debate on the other authors' methods.. very interesting.

Guess, for now, juz share whatever method.. n try..

matched_gal,

aiyo talking abt naps , he can drive me nuts leh. recently he sleep less in the afternoon and maybe an hour then wake up cry. then wan to carry to sleep. if i carry him can sleep 2hrs. he will do this sleep and wake fm 2pm to 6pm. Sigh!

matched gal,

my Hanson used to sleep thru day n night,
just wake up a little while to feed, then sleep again.

yesterday, his kor kor (21 months) was sick. din go to playgroup. the noti kor kor make so much noise at home so Hanson became quiet cranky. I think dat's y he sleep so well last nite.

i also noitced that Hanson goes into REM first before deep sleep. Today, kor kor is back at school so he has 2-3 hr nap thru' out. keepin my fingers crossed that he will sleep thru tonight.

Last time when i was training kor kor to sleep, i read somewhere that u must differiate between day n night sleep. For day time, i will on some music (either classical or nursery rhymes), open windows, stc. just make sure got some noise lah.
Nite time, i will close windows and on air con, make it as quite as possible. my elder one learn how to sleep thru at about 3.5 months like dat lor. Now Hanson also going thru the same "training".

jus to hi-lite, i co-sleep with the elder one until Hanson was born. Then, while i deliver in hospital, he slept with my parents (who r temp staying wif me till yr end to help me babysit Hanson). Now elder 1 sleeps wif my parents and Hanson sleeps wif me lor.

any Sengkang mummies here?
I am a FTWM. Now on 2nd leg of maternity leave (about 1 month from now onwards).
Tot of meeting up for coffee/tea cum chit chat.
Any1 keen?

Twinkle,
sama sama. Same here ah, hehe. Yesterday after she guai guai sleep about 2hrs in the afternoon, there was no peace for me from 5pm-10pm(!). And my boss called me in between, ask me why my baby cry so loud(!), haha. At last 10pm she went to sleep after her last feed, i could tell she was exhausted(!). Veri hard to make them sleep in the daytime leh...

Elle,
Haha, sounds like quite tough to have two kids. I can imagine myself next time ah... That is, if i ever can forget this 'ordeal' and muster enuff courage for another one ;) By the way, ur elder one so fast go school liao? U send him go to school at 18mths oreadi?
Me daytime will play wif my little one. Nitetime no play - straight to bed. But i tink so far it doesn't really work, cos she noe daytime i will play wif her, so dun wan to sleep ah
sad.gif

Oh, me not staying near Sengkang ...

HI all mummies, my little boy somehow just know how to sleep thru out the whole nite wo training. But the last feed i will latch him on and he will suck till he slp. that's why he slp with us coz' everytime i lift him back to his own cot he will cry. Hiaz!! that's the only problem i face.

For those who have prob getting the bb to slp, just to share with you my bb only willing to slp well if he slp on his tummy. But very high risky, we have simply no choice coz' he is a very insecure bb and refuse to slp in cradle. Last resort is to let him slp on his tummy, but i alw wake up every hour to check on him. Is until now he is almost 4 mths, he is willing to slp on his side wo waking up.

Mrs Ho

I was a little worried too when my baby seems a little cross eyed when she looks at her musical mobile toys... hmmm... you think it is a cause for worry?

Morning mommies.

kao_clap.gif

Today, I will be seeing Xuanting.... so happy.

Mom yam,
wow ur boyboy at least willing 2 sleep on his tummy. Xuanting doesn't like. She'll "complain" and "complain" when placed on her tummy.

In fact, my gal now automatically will "swing" to her side to sleep when I placed her on cot. Of course, not sleeping yet.. just that she's comfortable sleeping at her sides only and not on her back.

Guess, she feels more secure as I oso prefer tix position too... =p

Any of u still looking for 2nd hand bumbo seat? Got a mommy juz pm me... but becoz i got already, so see who else wants.. her price quite good except color fade.. but think doesn't matter after our bbs will outgrow it very fast.

elle,
wow..two children now huh.. really not easy.

I did the same training to Xuanting too initially.. so my bb has no prob automatically wanting to sleep at 7~8pm (with still two more feeds in the night time). It's the daytime she was having prob.

She wants to play. Wants to look ard. Wants attention n so I would play with her.. but if played too long, then later during her feeding times, she would be very angry.

Pushed the teat away and wailed and sometimes, she wouldn't want you to sit down and carry her but to walk her around the house. She would keep rubbing her face on my shirt.... rub rub and rub till her nose was red! Then there would be times even carrying her she oso cried.. till the right carrying position was established.

So, I learnt that her sleep was not enough.

Yet, she has problem sleeping long.

Seemed to be dreaming.. and can see her face expressions changes. Sometimes smiling and sometimes frowning.. then later would break into cries and tears just kept pouring down. And then she wouldn't dare to sleep by herself for a while unless carried her.

Her weight has since been "straight-lined". No longer going upwards at exponentially and seems 2ve prob farting as well... ppl I saw, all said she not enuf sleep.

No choice n decided to pick up tix book to see what other ways to coax her to sleep longer n then she wouldn't suffer much.

koalarie - my son exactly same as you described!! so i must quickly get the book to read.

tried yday to put him to sleep when he drowsy as the tips u gave but when put him down, then his eyes big big liao. try to let him fuss a bit but see him struggle then give up liao. also staying with PIL, they see him fuss like that also dun seem happy. sigh.

mom_yam - my boy also sleep only when put on his stomach. that is why i use babysafe mattress coz can "breath". there was once i saw that his face was facing down directly at the mattress, i observed that he can still breath. last time i also wake up often to check on him but end up being tired myself. but now his neck is stronger n can turn if can't breath, then i more relax and also dun check as often.

Hi all,

I have confirmed the flashcards class with the instructor at 11 am this saturday at my place. Very kan cheong to get my girl started fast.. so for those who can make it this saturday at Toa Payoh, do let me know
happy.gif
For the rest of you ladies who cant make it this sat, I will arrange for another timing at my place as well?

cheona,

Hmm.. not really too early leh... jumbo sent me this video clip of a 7 months old girl who can recognise words, do additions and subtractions.. very impressive
happy.gif

Daphne
PM u liao.

Mel Lim
Heehee.. sunday at my mil's place oso like tat.. but i shared with my hb b4 tat bb will fuss one.. n so told him 2 guard outside the bedroom till i step out of the room. =p

But once i left an hour later, xt woke up liao n played n then refused to sleep as mil dun noe how 2 put her to zzz. Haiz.

Mom_yam/Mel_lim,
Yah, my ger ger also sleep tummy down. I also use the babysafe mattress leh. Starting also very worried, kept scolding my papa (who put her sleep tummy down), and flip her over to her back to sleep during the day. But seems like she can't sleep on her back leh. Her startle reflex always wake her up if she's on her back (cos her arms &amp; legs will suddenly swing up while she's in one of her REM stages). So end up, sleep on tummy... But so far ok. Hmmm, now i'm wondering how she's going to sleep in the infant carseat (if we bring her to church / some other place)...

Koalarie,
My ger ger also same - when not enuff sleep, end up fussy and cranky. Always drink milk 5 min, then wah-wah-wah. At that time, my fren sent me Gary Ezzo's books fr overseas, so then i started reading up. But my parents 'sim-tia' their grand-daughter when i put her down to cry herself to sleep. So end up only sometimes i do dat now... So far, sometimes work, sometimes dun work ... haiz... tink need alot of patience &amp; perseverance...

Haha, my ger ger also has facial expressions during her sleep - can see her smiling / pouting. Sometimes she wake up crying loudly, i've to carry her to soothe her back... poor thing, duno what she dreamt of (maybe of the doctor who played with her before turning her over to give her a jab on her buttock - hahaha)... ;P

hunniepot,
i have check with Feb's thread, some said is normal.
{{Their PD says ok, they will usually 'settle' to normal position as they grow up.}}
Me worried too...try not to let bb see her hand....but, now i think shd be normal, me feel abit easy...
(cos before that, my SIL keep saying bb eye can't be like that, must do something to bb. That y make me so worried)

hunniepot, dun think i can go over this sat liao.. other day perhaps..

btw, did Amanda try to get out from bumbo seat? Nixon will try to get out from bumbo seat by lean backward, straighten his legs to get out.. luckily his thighs are caught and his legs are still not long enough to touch the floor.. think by the time his legs can reach liao.. even worst.. scare me off.. gosh

jumbo

Okies.. no problem
happy.gif
Will arrange with the instructor for other timing.. but he might be fully booked till early september.. didnt want to wait so long so I start the class 1st.. anyone wants to join in, pls let me know.. it is a flat fee of $50 per session, the more mummies join, the cheaper the fees per person
happy.gif

Amanda didnt try to get off the bumbo.. hmm.. think someone has to be around when baby sits in bumbo leh.. cos read from somewhere that some babies actually fell off the bumbo when unattended...

elle and Mrs Ho, u have nice babies can nap so long...heehee..I like the rest face day naps problem..nite not too bad. I'll latch her till sleep and put in cot. If wake then latch again. usually by 2nd time she will knock out..haha..

Day time I also put my gal sleep on tummy but doesn't help to lengthen her naps now. In the past good can sleep 1-2+ hrs. Now put side or on tummy also same.

sleep on tummy,
i feel that bb sleep on tummy better than the back. Cos my gal oso dont like to sleep on tummy, now her head quite flat....we try to let her sleep @ side now....to prevent flat head. But, i think quite difficult to make her head round back.
sad.gif

Mrs Ho

Yeah... my bb's head is flat on the right side, cos we seldom turn her around... (regretted big time) and the PD said must keep switching positions... and it will take a long time b4 the head will turn round again
sad.gif

Hi all,

Not sure if you ladies remembered I mentioned earlier about my friend who was supposed to be April MTB 06 mum with twins but she had a miscarriage? She mentioned to me that she was sorry that I have to go through the pregnancy journey alone as she is unable to 'accompany' me. So happy to hear from her that she is currently 3+ months pregnant
