(2005/11) November 2005 MTBs

Oh so many of you would be at the fair huh? How I wish I can go during wk day..sigh sigh..maybe go at nite. hehe.

Celtricia, no leh. My bb never moved when being scanned leh or maybe I blur never notice. Actually you can go for the fair, order first and tell them fix color subsequently see can or not. :p

I had blood test for Thalassemia also and Dr Yeo said the "triple test"will also be done. Nurse poked twice on me cuz vein on left hand stopped flowing blood after some time. I still have phoebia drawing blood. Quite large qty ok..scared scared.

Ju, you take good care. I'm thinking of buying stroller. Saw Taka got one $100 offer with stroller and gym mat dunno good or not but nephew last time got stroller then crawled out of it everytime so much so that in the end gave to other ppl. So dunno will waste money or not. Hubby was saying maybe just carry until can walk then dont need stroller already.

Dear all

Thanks for sharing. I've just borrowed a book on prenancy illness. It emphasizes on the morning sickness issue. They wrote that morning sickness actually protect the foetus in the 1st trimester! Tat's new to me.

Now reach 2nd trimester already. 14 weeks +. Finding difficulty in choosing clothings for work every morning....

Anyone going to Motherhood exhibition this week?

Aprilpinky, hmmm.. den u muz open ur eyes big big to c liao.. kekeke.. for the fair, i tink i later part den go.. any idea when it will end?

the blood test i duno if Dr Yeo is gg to do it for me tml.. did u hubby went for any blood test too? coz Dr Yeo says he nids to haf a blood test duno for wat.. hee. for me drawing of blood is pretty ok.. not much phobia.. heh.. but i use to haf faint spells during my menses.. hopefully they dun draw too much if nt i will faint... hahaha..

Motherhood fair .. me going too, maybe on Sunday.

Btw I find pushing a stroller quite troublesome, esp going in & out of MRT, crowded shopping areas, lifts etc. I'm thinking of geting a sling. But probably I'll still get a light-weight stroller or pram in case both hubby & me carry bb until tired. Oh yes, there're so many brands to choose from... until 'yan hua liao ruan'.
Any gd recommendations?

Celtricia,

Yes, my hubby had his blood drawn too. His blood flowed so fast until less than 5 minutes done liao while I have to lie on the bed to draw on my the other hand cuz I felt giddy after blood refused to flow in my first hand after some time. His blood is for the di4 zhong1 hai3 test also. Expensive test! $200++. *faint* By the way I waited fr 9 am til nearly 11 am b4 seeing dr yeo last sat. I nearly couldnt hold my bladder for the scan.

The exhibition until Sunday. 1 Jun-5 Jun

My doctor said the bleeding wasn't due to the flying. I have a feeling it's more cos I was too tired (I was up for >24hrs without sleep before it happened).
There hasn't been any articles that said flying is dangerous for us with stable pregnancies. As long as the doctor says ok, you should be fine.

What I did experience while flying was... half an hour or so before landing, the plane would start to descend... and I guess the sudden change of altitude made me really nauseous. But that's about the only discomfort I got... not mentioning the frequent trips to the toilet.

Don't worry, you should be fine, just don't tire yourself out like I did!

Morning sickness protects the foetus...
sad.gif
my MS was just a mere occasional gag! Doctor reassured that I was one of the lucky few. Oh well... MS or not, as long as bb is growing fine, MS also nvm!

Didn't know that morning sickness is to protect the foetus. I've no ms so far (only the feeling of wanting to throw out but no vomit), does that mean no protection?

My hubby has another theory of ms... that is, ms is the body's way of rejecting unwanted food by the baby, so if the mummy eats nutritiously, there is no ms. Hahaa, dunno true or not, I just laugh it off.

Aprilpinky, the blood test for hubby so ex ah?! tink he hear liao he won't wan to take d test.. heh.. oh! u waited for so long during saturdays ah.. lucky.. for me i tink most of the time will b on weekdays.. coz saturday i also nid to take leave.. so no diff.. better take weekday den weekend.. heh..

Hi all,

As for the blood test, usually doctors will only take from the mummy first. To test for thalassemia, if the mummy is a carrier, then they will request for the daddy to test as well. Cos bb might have the possibility of getting thalassemia major if both parents are minor carriers. But if one of the parent is not a carrier at all, no need to test for daddy liao.

joyful,

you would need a pram even if you buy a sling because for sling the weight is on one shoulder only so sure ache after less than one hour. for pram, baby can sleep and hubby and look after while you go washroom or you eat. you can wait until baby is one month old than take baby out to choose a pram because you wont know how big your baby is going to be. my boy outgrew the hand-me-down pram when he was one month old, so we had excuse to buy a new one for him.

I didnt do the NT scan because no one to look after my boy if I were to go for the scan. my gynae did a rough measurement (same measurement as NT scan) on the ultrasound during my 12th week visit and say that the risk is very very low so its okay for me not to do the NT scan. my gynae not pushy kind, while tell you if u really must do any test or procedure.

both me and hubby are not thalessemia carrier and not hep B carrier and I got rubella immunity so less blood test to do.

Hi ladies, I'm back. Had been really busy with work...feel extremely tired. I spent all my wkends sleeping at home. Now got difficulties finding clothes to wear to work...

Still having morning sickness and a funny taste on the tongue...makes me lost my appetite...but tk gdness I din lose weight...

my colleagues told me having morning sickness means body producing a lot of preg hormones so gd for bb...

i've been having pink/brown discharge on n off...not sure anyone experienced this too? gynae had checked n told me everything is fine but i can't help worrying...

celtricia,

The whole blood test for both hubby and myself is 200+. Maybe gynae wants to do it one shot and get full results. hehe.
I think MS is cuz of increase in hormone level too cuz mine was real jialart when I was on hormone jabs and pills.

Nmum, I dont have pink/brown discharge. Maybe u can try cut down/eliminate cold drinks or cooling stuff fr your diet.

One of my friends who just gave birth is a hep B carrier so she said she cant breastfeed. I forgot to ask gynae abt that last sat. I must ask him during my next visit.

Sexxy, i did the NT scan at TMC 4th level. I will be doing the blood test as well. Tat day, i saw the clinic assistant took some blood sample from other ladies, so scary, a small test tube full. Can't imagine when it's my turn. Ur next check up on ur week 16? So when will it be? mine on the 17th june.

Can see tat most of u r going to the motherhood fair. My hb is more interested in the PC show next door. So, i go motherhood fair, he go PC show. Won't bored each other.

Sexxy, then we can't go n scream together at the clinic.
Actually, i still dun noe whether i can make it for the motherhood fair, tis weekend is packed for me liao. Now only left sunday evening, n i also afraid of the crowds. Ladies, do inform us wat u got from the fair. Hope can get gd bargain there.

The book which I borrowed is called "Pregnancy Sickness".

I heard that there are maternity clothes sold at Motherhood Exhibition. They only sell on online retail malls.

Anyone getting breast pump now? Which is better? The electric or manual pump one? Is it ok to get from pass-downs?

I intend to get a breast pump. Probably the Avent manual pump. Many breastfeeding mums from this forum have positive feedback for this brand where a manual one is concerned. The main drawback for a manual one, I guess, will probably be time consuming and hand straining.

As for electric one, it is more convenient. Just switch it on and let the pump do its work. Electric type is too expensive for me. Since I am not working and will be staying at home taking care of the bb myself, I think a manual one will be suffice for me.

I think pass-down is ok as long as you sterilised all the parts thoroughly. (then again, new ones also need to be sterilised) But then, I still feel uneasy using a pass-down one lor. Hee...

I got myself an Avent ISIS already from carrefour when it was having a sale abt a mth back. Cost $50+ then. Mothercare and John Little were selling at 80+ then.

I read from the thread here that medela pump is the best since it's a medical grade pump. Went to look for it and got a shock. It's a few hundred dollars....

I intend to breastfeed until going back to work after 3 mths so dont think I want to get too ex breast pump also.

Hmm...I dont feel easy abt using pass-down also cuz quite personal equipment leh. But it's individual loh, if sterilised properly shd be fine.

wah... so many plp so for the motherhood fair.....
shall we meet up have a meal.....
then go jalan jalan together?

VENUS: WAH... your MIL double standard!! Peng SAN!!

joyfulfulhands: my hubby has the same theroy.....
I must be eating alot of junks.......
coz MS doesn't seems to be easing at all!!

Anyone keen to go to the fair together? My HB's overseas leh... and I don't wanna drag other non-preggie friends leh, they're gonna get so bored!

Ah Fat, interested?

ah fat..

ha nor..me heck care her liao anyway..

when u going for motherhood fair??

i am going on fri..who is going on fri?

hello everyone..

I am back after holidaying in france.. so many ppl and conversation threads, really excited..

I just went to the doc past weekend to check everything is still fine after the trip, and the doc says my bb is a boy too.. my hubby and i9 and our dog all psyche up for gal.. so this is a surprise indeed but thankfully we almost have the boy name settled, just the chinese name cuz the bb has to keep with tradition so the surname and the middle are fixed already...

I seem to be hearing a lot of ppl having boys.. is it the season for boys..???

Thanks for all the shopping tips and the maternity wear... i am only 16 weeks but have been wearing maternity pants, and new bras already for some weeks, think i was too skinny before so now sudden weight gain, a bit worried i gaining too much weight!! i am now 52, and my usual weight is 45, so its 7 kg already, scary!

i dunno what is necessary to buy but for the great S'pore sale, i tot it will be gd to buy ex items that are needed...

thinking of buying - one of those 3-in-1 playpen (with a middle section for cot kind), maybe a car seat? and milk bottles even though i plan to bf..

i went to look ard and found that if we buy the Avent bottles - which are soooo ex, then we can only use the Avent steriliser i think, correct me if i am wrong as the bottles are weird in shape..

Do advice if there are other items worth buying now if cheap at the GSS!!

Chris!! congrat, twins.. i always wanted twins but no such genes.. take good care and dun worry too much. have positive tots v impt now..

i am now almost v energetic except i always feel SOOOO hot and sweaty. hiding in an aircon room alone at home seem very wasteful.. so have been sitting near fan, though so the air is hot air.. thk i also trying to adjust fr the cold weather in france but v hot and mang zhang sometimes!!

take care all, and i am going to try to see if there's any yoga class to join..
happy.gif

anyone eating ice cream - now 2nd tri can eat? i got bad craving for anything cold, like cold juice etc v bad hor..dunno how

Hi, Veil, welcome back...wah..so nice, have holidays in France..
happy.gif

Guess now i already passed the period of worring too much, and try to be positive...i think reading too much about twins prenancy is not so good for me..
happy.gif

Last night got my first puke before dinner...so uncomfortable..maybe i was too hungry and smell something funny. I thought now it's already on my 13 weeks, should be no more MS. but i always feel nausea and no appetite at around 5 to 7pm.. so until now still no weight gain, but doc said it's normal.

I plan to go to the motherhood fair this Saturday. Need to get some maternity pants, tummy is showing a bit now..

Veil,
Welcome back! must have enjoyed your trip! Good to know that bb and you are doing well. And you're also expecting a boy, like Aprilpinky and Nik!

Actually it's just that boys are "diagnosed" earlier cos they have a protruding genital, girls don't get confirmed until at least 20 weeks.

Cold food/drinks are no problem lah... in fact for those experiencing sickness, cold food/drinks make it better.

Chris,
I think you're right, reading too much = worrying too much! That's what my HB said to me.
I'm past 14 weeks and still haven't put on a pound, and it's quite normal, don't worry.

Motherhood Fair
I'd love to go yet afraid of the crowd... seems like all the preggies in Sg are going! Scared Fri night will be packed. I'm thinking of going Sat during the day.

Rochelle,
Is it better to get bigger size prams since bb will eventually outgrow it?

ah Fat,
Hang on there! Our hubbies have similar thinking. kekeke

Aprilpinky,
Didn't know that the medela pump is so ex! Is it >$200? Have to switch target to another brand then...

hi veil,
Sounds like you've a great time in France & came back recharged & energetic. Congrats you're expecting a boy
happy.gif

milk bottles...
Unlikely that I'm buying the Avent bottles too. They are larger in size & thus we will need to get the full set of avent equipment, else it just won't fit the steriliser, teats etc. Can't mix & match with other brands. And I guess we can't run away from bottles, whether bf or not.

playpen...
Hey, I'm also thinking of getting a playpen. Btw how does a 3-in-1 playpen looks like? what are the models available?

joyful,

if you are going to be taking buses and taxis than get a one-hand fold pram. if you are going to be taking the car most of the time, than you can go for the bigger size ones.

my pram is for going round the neighbourhood so its a bigger size pram because I need one with suspension so that baby dont get "rock" too much by the hard pavements.

best is wait for baby to be at least a month old than bring baby to shop for a pram. you can comfortably use a baby carrier until baby is about 3-4mths old without needing a pram.

Rochelle,

Wait till bb is 3-4mths to get a pram... I think that's a great idea!

My HB wants to get those 3-wheeled, jogging type of stroller. He said better to manouveur... like sports car *DUH* but it costs $500 plus! How to convince him??? He also wants to get a Recaro car seat for bb to put in his sports car... not available in Sg, >$300 USD!! How to convince him??? *ARGHHHHHHHH*

Aprilpinky...

My next appt is 28 June leh.. gg for the scan at level 4.. my appt time is at 11am.. hw bout urs.. tis time sure can meet up liao if our timing almost similar.. heh..

dun tink i will b gg for d fair.. quite tight budget tis days.. haiz.. everything also money money.. heehee.

Hi ladies..

Welcome to the thread Jeddie.

Wow, by looking at the list of items here, we really got to get a number of bb's stuff. I not getting a breast pump cos hb dun wan me to breast feed. He thinks to bf 2 bbs is very shiong. I'm trying to convince him to let me try 1 month only. He thinks otherwise. Haiz...It's me who is bfeeding, why he kaypo so much. As for pram, i think we r not getting those twin-type of pram, cos too big to manouveur in shopping malls. We r thinking of getting either 2 or maybe 1 only, 1 sit in pram, other one take turns to carry ard. My friend's office got ppl selling those sarong sling. I also tot of getting those too.

dili, my hubby also wan to get the recaro bb seat too!

nik, i should be going to the motherhood fair tomlo afternoon cos not working... wil check it out n let u know wat going on there.

wow, so many things to get, dont know which is better... any1 got a list of wat to get?

Nik,
Eh eh... sarong sling, how much are they selling for? Moms in Mind are selling from $39-45. If cheaper, I wanna get too!

I think it's still better to BF. It's the best food for the baby, and anyone who can breastfeed should. I think you should try for a month like you said. And BFeeding can help you lose the weight!

Sexxy,
Our men are alike... how to convince? Everything already needs money... it's really not right to squander like that!

Let me search the forum... see if anyone has a list made up somewhere!

Dili, i still dun noe how much r they yet cos my friend told me they come once every 3 months. She did mention tat it would be cheaper than shops. I told her to inform me if the ppl come again.
My hb thinks i will not have enough breast milk for both the bbs. But i did explain to him tat i intent to give formula n breast milk at the same time. Then he worried tat i will not able to rest during confinement. Sometimes i think he will do a better job if he's a woman.

Jeddie, I also got 4 fur-siblings at my mum's place, 1 at my place.

nik,

wat is the breed of your furkids? mine's MS...and i hope to have a GR next time...and if space permits, would also love to give a home to a mongrel ....but that will be many yearsdown the road..coz now gotta take care of the furkids and bb first...
