Even feel like crying when thot of future confinement weeks! Everytime they visit they'll like to 'wake' the bb up to bond with her..
Well come to think of it, it's not really that bad actually. I guess it's some post-natal blue working up cos so many changes... And I've never been very close to MIL cos only married for 11mths.
Sometime what I read from the book contradit w MIL's theory and CL also had another school of thots on handling bb.
Anyway it really feels after 'grumbling' here

Burping
If bb don't burp doesn't mean that did not take enuf...as long as they don't cry after each feed means ok!
My boy also v difficult to burp esp during night feeds...so tired can't wait to finish his feed...try burping a while if he doesn't then put him back to sleep. This mummy v lazy hor!

Low Milk Supply
Mummies out there don't worry, just drink a lot of fluid n latch bb often. I am sure your ss will be enuf! I used to sub FM when ss is low..only by the 2nd mth then I manage to go on total BF.

im back! hav been busy with my boy BF...really a tuff work. every 3 hours gotta feed him once. when time up, he will just automatic wake up n cry for milk.... "siong" but luckily hubby ard. notice tt bb likes him alotz esplly when he cry non stop, once hubby carry him, he immediately keep quiet! hee.... "weird-weird"

okae, here's my labor story....

25 aug 05
1045pm. while i was chargin my hubby's camera suddenly i notice there was a gush of water leaked out. didnt bother too much n just put on a pad...

1100pm. another ard of water flowin out...called TMC and they adviced me to checkin.

1130pm. still at home surfin net. 5mins later noticed tt my pad color changed to red...went to pack my hosp bag n take a shower b4 leavin to TMC.

26 aug 05
1245am. hee... hubby went to send his documents to his colleague and handover his office work. tt's why take so long to reach. during tt 45mis, the contraction is still bearable....ok, reached TMC...sent in to labor ward after cleared my bowel n checked tt im 1cm dilate. Contration pain started every 10-15mins...

0345am.
cannot tahan the pain anymore and still only 1cm dilate! contraction gettin worst n worst. asked for epidural finally...

0500am.
5-6cm dilated...but still can feel the pressure on passin motion. couldnt slp at all even after epidural.

0700am.
overhead next door mummies yellin for pain while pushin! few mins later, a cryin baby arrived to the world! im so touch (eventho not my baby) till i cried out n waken my hubby....he thot im ready to push! ;p well, thanks God! cervix open to 8-9cm at ard 730am...

0845am.
gynae came in to check and said i am ready to push!! the contraction really can kill. so gals, if ur threshold of pain is not tt strong enough, is better to go for epidural early. for my case, i was too late to ask for it after so many hours of pain....

0905am.
contraction getting stronger...hav the urge to push!! finally nurse asked me to start pushin when the contraction getting stronger. well, after 3 pushed and cervix was fully dilated.

925am.
5-6 push, baby Darius finally is out and he weight at 3.19kg. gynae put him on my stomach immediately when he's out. for tt moment, my mind black out and only knew tt im over wit it! every contraction pain is worth it when i see bb Darius born normal n healthy!

for those who r still waitin for labor, be patient n prepared n enjoy ur labor! :eek:)

hi cakey, yah lor.. my mil likes to use words like "nonsense" or "rubbish" to respond when she disagrees with what u say. It just irks sometimes bcos what i said was told to me by my family, so she is indirectly implying that what they say are rubbish n nonsense? she also quite stubbon n insisting that her belief is right. She is generally a nice person, but sometimes she is too insistent.

re disposable nappies:

i've so far only used pampers cottoncare n nepia. Both are equally good.Think will try other brands when Zephan upgrades to next size..

Btw, how many diapers do u use each day? For me, i think around 9, cos he tends to poo poo 5 times a day, sometimes he poo-ed right after i change..haiz... then got to change again. Kept telling him that he just thrown away 50 cents...hehe...

Initially wanted to use diaper cloth during day time, but then disposables easier to change, n no need to handle the wash... with a crying baby, i just want to get the change done asap.

Actually not sure if u gals have noticed, but the pampers n nepia pee indicators changed after 1 pee only. Disposables are supposed to be able to hold a few rounds of peeing right? Anyway, i was thinking, maybe it's bcos they prompt us to change so often that risk of diaper rash is reduced...

My friend told me $12 can liao ... give it when she arrives and the day she leave. Coz doing confinment is something like 'dirty' thing so give angbao as yi shi yi shi.

Hi mayday, I dun give my cl any ang bao when she comes leh.. and seeing her do so much work for me.. I kinda paiseh.. hee.. i think $100 to show my appreciation is ok.

Hi tingting,
I used Nepia for the day &amp; Mammy-poko for the nite. Pampers oso good but prefer Mammy-poko cos it holds the urine more. I dun change straight away when the indicator turns blue. I will check whether it's really wet inside. If still quite dry, I will hold on for a while before I change a fresh piece but must remember to apply drapolene. Very stingy of me..kekeke..

I am giving red packet of $28 at the begining and another $28 at the end. But it also depends on how satisfy you're with the CL... For my case, she's a great help so maybe will give more at the end.

Diapers:
I'm using Sealer (she she le in chinese) in day time. It's $6 for 24 pcs so quite cheap (25c per piece). so far bb ok with it

I bought it at the 'ABC' shop. Night time i use pampers cos suppose to hold more.

feeding:
Seems like most of your bb are quite regular in feeding amt and time hor..
Mine can vary from BF only, to BF(30min) + 90ml! She's only a week old and 3.2kg leh.. wonder how come so good appetite.. Feeding time also irregular from 1hr to 3.5hr...
Daily total starts from 400ml few days ago and already increase to 455ml now.

Yesterday and today my MIL didn't come but rather ask my hubby to go and get the tonic soup. They're are giving me and bb a break...
I know they mean well just that too much changes to handle at one go..

Re: Disposable Diapers
For me, still using the remaining Pampers NB cottoncare &amp; Huggies NB Ultra comfort. So far only use in the night time. So far so good.
Day time using cloth nappies with Pigeon liners. Find the liners very gd leh..cloth nappies wet liao, liners still dry.

tingting, i tot the indicator changes colour gradually, if its a little wet, only part of indicator changes to blue...
btw, wat's the colour of Zephan's poo? My Keyon's diarrhoea-liked golden yellow...
is it normal? Also poo a few times a day.

My bb also 1wk plus, BF time interval can vary fr 1hr - 3hrs.. But FM(90-100ml) can last 2-5hrs!

Ya, I pumped out my BM and also supplement if not enough. That's why I know how much my bb needs to drink. Nowadays, I can pump out about 60-70 ml of EBM and hence still need to supp about 30 ml at least...

Can understand your feeling. Was feeling v irritated also when MIL comes to visit and dish out so many dos and dons. I just hid in the room and let hubby deals with her....My boi's feeding is like clock work at every 3 hours.....

Diapers:
I'm using pampers both day and night. Originally intended to use clothe diapers in the day, but now don't think I can bother liao. Too much hassle to wash the nappy. I dun change based on indicator, usually change after bb poo cos he poo about 5-6 times a day. If no poo, will only change when I see the pampers heavy...
 
Hi Tingting, this is normal.. during my confinement, my mil oso like tt, lucky she is working and will only come to my place either sat or sun and her off-day which is once fortnitely. My poor mum always want to excuse herself when my mil comes.. cos both of them have their own set of mind.. esp when i told my mum to carry kylie, she will say ask yr mil to carry cos she scare mil will get jealous.

Diapers: Tingting, kylie oso use abt 10pcs of diapers each day, like u say poo rite after feeding or after changing. Anyway i'm using a cheaper brand, petpet. is quite good and cheap.. so instead of throwing S$.50 u only throw S$.20. hehe.. I rec'd a pampers Dry (red packaging) arggh.. tht is horrible.. cos sometimes i will open a little to check if thr poo, can feel the heat coming out when i open the diapers..

i understand that u go to dr cheng for ur visits.. i am from oct thread.. and also go to dr cheng.

but i realise that he doesn't measure baby's weight after the detailed scan right? does he measure again? at which week? does he want u to go.. natural with epi or c-section? went to him in mid aug.. then found baby has always been in breeched position.. so.. he told me best is to go thru c-section.. sigh. am so scared now..

kindly advice on when will he measure baby's weight again and when will i start seeing him like twice a month instead of once a month.. am in week 30/31. thanks.

he started to measure the weight again since week 36+ ... and from then on he has been telling me the weight of my baby ...

my baby is in a head down position so guess it will be natural with epi for me ... there was a time when my baby was breech ... but he told me still had time and baby will turn ... and true enough my baby turned ...

think you will start to see him once in 3 weeks first .. then once in 2 weeks when hit 35+ weeks and from 37+ weeks onwards will be weekly ... mine just started to be weekly now ...

guess if your preg is progressing on fine he wouldnt ask you to see him more frequent ... thats my feel lar ...

I'm from Oct thread and also go to Dr Henry Cheng. My detail scan report (@ 20th/21st week) got baby's wt (under EFW). At my last visit (32nd/33rd week), he told me baby's weight again.

at my last visit, Sharon asked me about my preferred PD (whether male or female doctor). they getting for me Singapore Baby &amp; Child Clinic (Dr Chan Kit Yee).
 
hi lib, how much is petpet selling? i heard it'ss good also... i bought 2 packs of M size nepia at $15.90 (51 pcs) each. I think for pampers n nepia they are more "breathable"? cos when i hold the diaper area i can feel the moisture (not the urine), and sometimes when i accidentally touch the wet diaper (yucks!) it doesn't feel wet. Zephan's coming to 1 month, and i think we've used about more than 160 diapers already... now stil ok cos received diapers as presents.. got to find cheaper alternatives soon...

ixwong, ur boi v good to have a schedule.. mine is really feeding on demand! n it's quite fustrating cos sometimes he just wants to snack.. i mean, i take much effort to get into comfortable position, standby the towels n tissue, n he feeds for only 5 min?!

applejuz, u v good to still use cloth diapers... i bought quite a lot of them too... now they serve as blankets n head rest for Zephan.. :p

the poo poo colour is yellow mustard kind... sometimes they poo poo v loudly right?

if u're on BF, average there should be 5 bowel movements that are quite sizeable, like 1 palm size.

went for the first month checkup today.. baby weighs a hefty 4.31kg! also grew longer(taller?) by 7cm...

Sharon never ask me ler ... maybe cos I never ask anything on PD before ... but I remember that they wrote down a PD name in my admission letter ... not sure whose name they put there ...

Thnks all for your words of encouragement. Feeling very vex cos of my baby's jaundice. It's been raining and raining these 2 days, which means to say, no sunlight

What to do? I am really desperate now! Someone suggested to give baby red date water ... says it helps.

Anyway, found out something 'interesting' ... When my baby was born, he has slight jaundice. I asked the hospital how come dun put him under the light. The reply I got was, baby's jaundice has to hit 14 pt before they will put him under the light. After discharge, his jaundice went up to 16.8 pt and hospital said have to bring him back immediately (Once baby's jaundice is 15 pt or above, he has to be awarded). They put him under the light till his jaundice drops to 10 pt then they asked me to bring him home again and to bring back if the jaundice goes up to 15 pt. To check his jaundice level, I have to bring him to his Doc in Mt. Alvernia (she has her own clinic) and each time she will draw blood from his leg ... it's $50/visit. Now my little boy has 'holes' on both his right and left legs. It really pains my heart to see that. And to think I have to keep taking him to the clinic till his jaundice is cleared!

Regarding my mother and ML issue. Well ... my hubby spoke to his mum and she stopped turning up early in the morning but still calls to ask if we need her to come down. Sigh! With baby sleeping at irregular hrs, I really hate having the phone rings just as baby doze off to sleep ... As for my own mum, she says I am unappreciative and that I hurt her feelings. She was mad with me for 4 days and said she will never come to my place again! Now beside pacifying my baby, I have to pacifying my mum!!! She kept going on and on on the phone on how hurt she is when I have to attend to a crying baby. Doesn't she know that I am vexed enough with my son's jaundice and the lack of sunlight these 2 days?! Aaaaaargh! They are really driving me crazy!

Speaking of breast engorgement. If you ask me, I really dunno if that is more painful or contraction is ... for those mums who haven't got it. Diapers ... I am trying out a few brands. Pamper (green packaging) is not bad but the red one is lousy! Don't fall into the trap like me and buy it. The design is lousy. The poo poo actually leaks out! I am trying Nepia now. It's a Jap brand. Quite impressed with the quality so far.

dunno leh, she was preparing some documents to MAH for me and asked if i prefer male or female doc. Then we kpo ask what her name is and she gave me the clinic's card lor.

i'll be giving birth on week 38! so no chance to see him weekly! haha... i would have to be induced 2 weeks earlier.. due to gestational diabetes. sigh..

hang on there k ... am sure its not easy to manage baby and mum n MIL ... maybe talk to your mum after your bb is more settled down lor ... maybe now she is too emotional to talk oso ...

she says day time use cloth much cooler. we put liner on it, so its easier to wash..

1 palm size of poo poo..that's quite an amount... mine sometimes got palm size, sometimes jus bit.. :p but really smelly.. hee hee..

Lib, havent popped yet leh, still waiting. Just went to c gynae today and he kept saying "anytime now anytime now". he did the cervix check and i teared on the bed....super painful mann!! then he said i prob need epidural cuz he only used 1 finger and i was already screaming...
 
applejuz, u using formula? Zephan's poo poo n pee got no smell at all.. quite true abt cloth being more cooling, but too bad for my bb, mummy lazy to wash....

lib, petpet sounds cheap... i just est based on the number of packs i used.. hehe.. 2 pampers plus 1 nepia n some extras....

the first few weeks can be really stressful, esp with jaundice babies... although i know that it's a common thing, but as parents we're still v kan cheong until doc gives clearance... for my baby's jaundice case i also visited a PD located at MAH, cos he was attached to him at birth by my gynae. Though consultation was ex, the blood test only costed us $15. We went twice (2nd time without consultation).

parents can be overly zealous... i also nearly snapped n showed black face at my MIL during the 1st 3 weeks, a first since i met her 8 years ago! I also scolded my mother once.. she called after a fustrating feeding session with baby, n was asking what my MIL did at my place. I just snapped n told her off that i'm v tired n dun bother me with such silly questions. Was regretful after i calmed down, but was too thick-skinned to apologise... just tried to be nicer to her in the days after....

Your mother will calm down after a while... it's more important that u remain cool n take care of ur baby n urself first...

seems like if u start with water bag bust, labour will be faster, isit true.

seabreeze, do take care, jus a few more days to the beginning of yr ML. i think i'll not take mine till delivery, cos really wan to save it for bb.

This morning I went to polyclinic to check bb jaundice level. Costs me only $9 and no need to wait too long cos baby less than 1 mth has priority in seeing doctor. You may want to consider this cheaper alternative....As for breast engorgement, if you are getting a malay massage lady, do ask her to help u massage your breasts. More effective to clear milk ducts if massage laying down. Mine ML did it for me twice and since then no more engorgement...

ixwong, do you know what causes the jaundice level to increase? heard that BF might one cause..
Also how do we know whether the level increase or decrease? I mean we can't possible go and do blood test every now and then right? I just went for bb 1st checkup and PD say looks at least maintain if not better. Then next checkup is 1mth Hep B liao... In between got to do blood test again? Takes how long to know the result?
Any mummy knows where blood test is more economical? Been to Polyclinic yesterday and was quite turn off by the waiting time and crowd.

It must be even more frastrating for you ladies with both side parents overly concern.. Guess I'm still lucky that only MIL popin more freq. And she doesn't come these 2 days.. guess after visiting and observing, she's now more fan4 xin1 with the CL taking care of bb and me..

However on and off I still got some 'blues' and just feel like crying.. I think mainly is i miss my hubby haha... Afterall he's been by my side since the day before I pop.. all the way till sunday, 7 days.. All the while been a great support to me

Me also using nepia and pampers cotton care for baby. Nepia got urine indicator? i didn't know leh..confinement lady changes for baby whenever she poos or shits..

has anyone compared mamypoko and nepia? which one is better?

me having fever since last night. 38degrees plus..gynae says its because i got slight breast infection. Caused by engorgement etc. i have to express every 3-4 hours, if not whole breast become lumpy hard and painful. am on antibiotics now..

Happened to pass by here and saw you askin MP or Nepia better. Mummy Poko known for it's absorbancy and it's friendliness for the cutting that doesn't affect NB's umbilical cord. Nepia, soft and cottony but not absorbant at all. Hope it helps.

Thnks for sharing. My PD charges around $35 for consultation and $15 for the blood test so each visit is $50. When she told me I need to bring the baby to her to check jaundice level every day I almost freak out. Have an appointment with her tomorrow ... maybe I will take baby to polyclinic instead but this PD of mine super on. Can call me abt 5 times a day ...

Gd thing for me, Clarence's feeding hr is quite regular (3-4 hr). These days I only need to wake up at around 3-4 am to give him one feed and it will last him till 7 am. Must say he is a gd baby. Doesn't cry much, not fussy and best part is, he is a deep sleeper (like his dad!). He can sleep thru noise n all. He even snores in his sleep!

His rosy cheeks r gone now but he does have ying tao xiao zui ... I always kiss him on his cheeks, forehead n mouth. Hubby says no gd ... cos make his face oily n then pimple will grow but I just can't resist!

I notice my baby already opens his eyes the day he was born. He was looking around, observing ... I always thought baby born with their eyes closed ...

It's not really painful but uncomfortable. Have to remember to relax the muscle down there instead of holding it tight.
