(2004/12) Year 2004 December Mummies

hee hee LL, i will also be at the airport on Feb 15 but at 2am!
going there to fetch my sis who will be returning from tokyo!

thanks to me, i raved so much abt tokyo that she's now been bitten too!

Lachesiz /Feline:
LOL love that pic, so darn funny!!!!

Seagal: which block in toa payoh do u remember?
near the hub where? that area is big and confusing....sorry!

Cody,
haha, I know what u mean. I can still lose my way there sxs.
The shop I bot from is Blk 183 Toa Payoh Central. It's right at the end nearer to the mrt. The other shop is just opposite - Blk 178 Toa Payoh Central.

U really going there to buy ah?

Lach,
rae's starting early in dolling herself up? haha.
love that pic! Cayden's so cute .... willingly letting rae "draw" on him.

seagal:
yeah i'm bent on getting the fake ones so that i don't have to buy the real ones!
hahaha, plus dean ADORES crocs now, refuses all other slippers. sigh...

anyway $2.90 only, never mind.
its great for the beach, pool etc.
another excuse to buy... hahaha
happy.gif

tks seagal!

cody,
at jurong east interchange there's pasar malam..

selling crocs very2 cheap like 3$ but the diff is they make really unique, polkadot and colors that i never seen in any other crocs, fake or real... they have many of them from size 6 to very biggg
happy.gif

LL,
u can also try to get sample packets from the manufacturer so you can carry lesser. 6 tins ?? thats a lot. like cody, i took only 2 tins too for 2 weeks the last holiday plus satchets from them. i also let ju took the normal full cream milk in packet form, just microwave them b4 drinking.

ju attended for a first time alone for a 2hr bible study class on wed. teacher says he didnt cry unless other kids started it and he follows. i am so proud of him. my praying comes through!!

LL,

kids do drink more when they are cold. my boys average one 900g can per week in cold weather. but I also gave them granola bars as snacks so that they can get nutrition without being hungry so fast. they have Meiji baby milk powder in japan which was what my boy drank will on japan airlines. no problem.

joann:
i rinse with tap water again to get rid of the milk smell.
if i'm overseas and not sure if the tap water is safe for consumption, i either rise with hot water or bottled water.

wow, you must be so proud of ju!
dean also attended a kindy open house on sat and i was IMPRESSED. not by the kindy or the teachers, but that he was willing to part from me for 30mins without ever asking or looking for me once!
wahhhhh, i always thot he'd be the super clingy cry baby like he is normally....

anyone read the Sat supplement on pre-school education?

i'm SHOCKED that the PAP teachers can't even speak proficient english!

its truly a lightning rod for criticism....

Can i pls get some info from the moms here with school-going kids?

1) How much is the school fees you pay for a 10-week term?

2) What is the teacher-student ratio?

The kindy that i'm going to queue for is:
1) $510 per term + $230 deposit (offset for 4th term school fees)

2) 1 teacher to 12 kids, max class size 24 kids.

I am ok with the school fees but the teacher-student ratio is exactly what MCYS has recommended. Kind of high i feel ...
The kindy open house i attended on sat is 1:5.
Hmmmm ....

May i pls get your feedback on your kids' kindy?

joann:
i actually wanted to start dean this year but the kindy was full. that's why i am going to queue for next year's intake.

after sat's open house, i feel that dean is ready for school! poor boy is probably bored at home...
sad.gif

Joann:
same here, unlike the other moms i am v v v lazy.
my only concern for a kindy is the price, ratio and convenient location!

whatever however they teach... i knew nothing of it till i read the sat papers!
*blush*

Cody....hehehehe.....sorry...sorry....wrong tin size...I meant the small ones (400g) which came free when I bought the usual big tins. Stef can finish a tin of powder in 4/5 days eversince Progress Gold had the promotion buy one get a small tin free....
Hei...my flight is 8am on 15 Feb unless u wanna wait for me???kekekekeke....

Joann....yup...I had called the company and asked if I could buy the powder in sachets form but too bad...NO...NO...they r mean for sample. The staff was pretty nice & send me 9paks on URGENT MAIL....

HMMMMM.....I'm so excited....another 3 weeks will be my long break.....

LL, i'm so envious of your upcoming trip!
must tell us ALL about it when you're back!
next time i go to hokkaido, i will ask u for info!
happy.gif

Elmo: oops, sorry to hear about that.

cody,
what do mean by queue for kindy? I chose one near my new place... signed her for pre-nursery so that if she moves up each yr, automatically gets into kindy?

medusa,

hi! long time no see ... yeah, the kindy next to my MIL's house has a long waitlist. the very day they open for registration, ALL vacancies are taken.

so for my case, i have to get my son into that kindy by hook or by crook. once he gets in, he automatically progresses from nursery to kindergarten 1 & 2.

I was telling some moms that i may even need to queue overnight! that area is THAT aggressive! not that its a premium school just that its the only affordably-priced kindergarten in that area after PAP.

in future when i have subsequent kids, means they also get priority registration to get into that kindergarten.

LL, going on trip *AGAIN*... good life, you, I must say!! hehehe... ENJOY and take care!!

cody, u still going for the clementi one or PAP now? confused...

Jen, i won't be going to the PAP one, never intended to....
i'm still going to queue for the clementi woods one.

Joann,
You must be so happy and proud of him
happy.gif

cody,
wahhhhhhh... dean surprise you again!!! guess its the mummy who might turn on the waterworks now :p

pre-school teachers can't speak proficient English? I didn't read the article but i am not surprised. I think that should be your least concern... cos it cuts across levels: vertical n horizontal. written, oral.
(and also considering the pre-school/kindy teachers pay and the qualification required to be one.)
trust me. :p
for several generations, incidental english were taught. Hence, foundation not grounded, hence the results we reap today.

I am a product of incidental english, so are many of us. I can read, speak reasonably ok. but I can't vouch for my writing. I wish I was taught the old grammarian way. I am suffering the consequences now.

cody,

Objectively as a passer-by:
ratio of 1:12 is fine. especially if dean is starting school at 3yrs and not 2yrs. personally, I see the difference between the 2 age grps. 3yrs are more independent and can communicate better than a 2 yr old so we can be assured that they will be taken care of. For 2yr old, much time is spend on taking care of their basic needs.

"Subjectively" as a mum myself who obsesses about her kid:
What!! 1:12! you must be kidding rite! how can??you mean my darling is only ONE of the 12 kids that ONE teacher is taking care of. what if he can't understand the instructions, what if he needs a drink of water, what if he needs to pee.. aiyo.. 1:12 cannot la......
my darling is the only unique ONE in this entire universe leh.. the teacher must give him at least 80% if not 90% of her attention ok.. 1:12 bery high i tell you.. they should review it to 1:4 . best is 1:2 la.. not unreasonable rite?

Seriously,
IMHO, 1:12 is ok for >3yr. imagine when they go to Pri school.. its abt 1:30 or higher. our darlings is just one dot in the sea of heads. sigh.

R current school is 2:10.
She will switch to my Plan A school which has a ratio of 1:12 in Aug 07 or 2008. But I will keep my options open.
I feel that since its the first time she attends school all by herself at 24m. So, was more comfy with a smaller ratio. I am a deranged mother.
But I was happy with my choice as the school actually had about 3-4 teachers at all time in the first week of school to settle the 10kids.

my dear, what kind of feedback do you need?

LL,
I am not answering your questions cos i super duper jealous and sourgrapes and moreover I have zero experience to share..
I think steffi has gone to more countries than ME ME ME ME ME.

cody,
$510 per term, its 10weeks right? 3hrx5?
follows MOE calendar?

PAP,
I feel its a good option. Now, many (?) are implementing the learn through play teaching pedagogy, which of course unsettles some parents.
Some Pri school teachers whom I have spoken to find that PAP graduands are able to settle into Pri school faster, adapt to the routine better and the 'pri school classroom learning environment' faster and better.
Some frown upon Montessori graduands because of the inherent 'challenge' to the teachers. (which R is going through :p )
I feel tat the talk of M students not adapting well to the Pri school is more of the learning environment and principles underlying it that they were accustomed to. less so the 3Rs readiness.

Lachesiz:

LOL u never fail to make me laugh!
yeah i think its dean's mommy who can't let go yet ... imagine, i still kiss him every few minutes, stroke his cheek, run my fingers thru his hair ... all this in public and sometimes during his weekly PG!

Yeah, its $510 per 10week term, follows MOE curriculum. Is that expensive or reasonable?

EXCUSE ME LACHESIZ? you - a product of incidental english? you write poorly?
#*&()@_#*&)(%^*&#)@ if your english is poor, then mine is truly atrocious! :p

why do you want to switch Rae to another kindy?
i thot her current one is GOOOOOD with KM, gym and all?

Joann.....VERY VERY GOOD IDEA.....then no need to lug 6tins of powder....

Jen...once a year affair lah....only during CNY.

Auntie Lac...dont like dat lei....I comes & share pictures wif u ok....muak....muak....

Wow.....talking abt school??? Hiaz....

Cody

PAP
Ash was there for half a year in 2006 and really dont see her learning alot (hmm.. maybe her learning abilities has slowed down?? .... Will be transferring her to the same school as Cay in Feb and hopefully this new school will not prove to be a disappointment.

$510 per 10week term is very reasonable. Is it a 3hr thingy?

I love the teacher to student ratio (1:5) at R school. And like what our education guru Lach mentioned, kids <3 needs more attention.
But Cay is always in his own world, thus his school of 1:9 is good enough for me
biggrin.gif

Can't comment much on Cay school so far as he has only been there for 2 weeks (hee hee, but I love the decor though:- they have their own outdoor playground built inside the premises, a spacious toilet scaled to kids size *partitions on cubicles are short just incase they lock themselves from inside) and very colorful decorations. They even have weekly music lessons (electronic organ, percussion....) all the way from K1 through K2. Art lessons are conducted on a bi-weekly basis too. School covers almost everything, so i dont have to spend extra on other enrichment classes
lame.gif
I love the all-in-one.. saves my $$
lame.gif

Only gripe I have is... the school made the kids sing the National Anthem and recite the Pledge.. Ash (she learn it from PAP) and Cay has been singing "Majulah........Singapura" on the car, in the shower, at the dining table and before sleep. Ash even sings that to herself to sleep!!!

Cody,
S$510 for a 10-week term is really quite reasonable.

Shermyn's pre-nursery class at Riverlife Kindy charges $210 per mth - 3 hrly, 5 times a week.
Teacher-student ratio? erm ... i can't remember... about 1:12 or 1: 15 I think.

Just called up SOKA kindergarten - they charged $350 a mth - 3.25 hrly, 5 times a week.
their curriculum sounds quite interesting - includes gymnastics by extermal trainer for nursery students.
teacher:children ratio is 3 (2 teachers and 1 asst):15 to 20 - sounds quite good.

One qn: do the schools typically charge fees during the june and dec hols? SOKA doesn't. I have yet to check with Riverlife.

Lach/Feline,
Can share with us where are ur kids attending nursery/kindy? =)

Lach,
Cody is right! If urs is incidental english then I have not even graduated from nursery!!

seagal:
wow gym???
i must go find out more abt that clementi kindy, so far i only know its price and time-table!

just started digi-scrapbooking a while back. here's one of my first projects.

cody,
cellin attend this star tots 300$ something for 10 weeks.. teacher student ratio.. 1:8, things that cellin learn everyday...
this kid snack is yummy
that kid snack is not so good
mommy i want a snack like that
mommy this one doesn't taste so good
teacher snack is delicious and i want more

haiyaaa... that's what she learnt there..

i'm thinking of moving her but haven't found anywhere closeeeee enough and good ratio like lach said 1:4 and have a permanent building, not in some function room
sad.gif

Cody, seagal,
I am an honourary member or AGA (Atrocious Grammar Anonymous)

For now, I have no current complaints abt R school. The teachers are great and very caring and professional. Even give me their h/p no so that i can call and get feedback anything.
Kindermusik and MyGym are incorporated which she simply adores.
Mandarin 2x weekly.
usual arts/craft, story-telling, phonics, maths etc
Montessori worktime
no uniform (yeah!)
Some reasons why I intend to change her is that Plan A school follows the Montessori philosophy very closely, and I like the vertical classroom concept and its suitable for R at the moment. I feel that R can do with more mandarin class and that she should be use to a bigger class size before P1. but current plans can change.

seagal,
NICE! This is your 2006 series? I rem the 2005 series.
happy.gif
SOKA sounds great!
Typically, fees are still payable during the June/Dec holidays.(likewise for the transport, if any). Hence my heart/pocket bleeds..

feline,
cay school is great! Very vibrant with engaging curriculum.
majulah very important leh.. Ash really sings with pride and happiness...

btw, do we all know the meaning of majulah singapura and the meaning of our national song? :p

Lach:
