(2004/12) Year 2004 December Mummies

Ay Cody, You might wanna check with the school / centre on whether they provide arts and craft aprons for the tods or not first. I know some places that provide so before you run out to buy one, do check first!

Thanks Cody for the nursery, kindergarten info!

Re Dean's trial class, you may want to change him into home t shirt just before the art and craft session, then change him back into his nice nice clothes after that loh. Anyway, you may need to bring one change of clothings in case he dirty his nice nice clothes and you guys not heading home immediately.

Hi Mngo, Evelyn, KC
Thanks for the compliments.

Mngo,
yah I like her eyes best too
happy.gif

Hey your boy got such stylo milo hair! so suai (handsome)
Did u gel his hair?

KC,
Shannon is very shy with strangers so she appears to be very guai. But hor, at home...wah so active and cheeky. Cannot sit still for 5 secs type.

Cody,
Thanks for the tips. Will keep in mind.
When u say they can cook porridge...is this considered as order from room service? Can get porridge from chinese rest?
How old was Dean when u went for the trip? How was the baby cot?

I will try to search for the thread. If u think of any more tips can email me at [email protected]
Thanks!!!

One of my fave pic of Shannon.
Me getting the hang of resizing pics liao...kekeke

Shannon looks so cheeky right? Many pple say she looks like boi boi especially in this outfit!

Elmo....u bringing ur gals for her 1st cruise...itz fun & pretty relaxing too 'cos u dont hv to worry abt long flights....Brought Steffi for her 1st cruise wen she turn 14mos, still crawling aroung....her stuffs occupy 3/4 of the luggage + 1 sling nappy bag!!!
- 4 bottles of drinking water (big ones) to make milk & packet bb food
- sweater (advised by Cody)
- detergent + brushes
- bathing towels + face towels

Lac...jus wrote to Hua Language, hope to hear fm them soon.

eve au,
wilfred looked like he enjoyed himself a lot. must be so fun with all the jie jies and gor gors.

mngo/cody,
i have also heard about kids not getting used to P1 curriculum if they don't attend PAP kindy. Is this really true ?

cody, looks like u have recee a few places already, so fast!

mngo,
declan looks so japanese in that pic with the big hair and "attitude" tee. his hair colour's such a nice brown!

elmo,
finally get to see Shannon's recent pics.

love her big round marbled eyes and fair complexion!!

aiyoh ....u can tie her fringe too!!

is the last pic the most recent ? her hair seems shorter.

cody,
keep me posted once Hua Language gets back to u. They don't seem to cater to younger kids from their website.

seagal:
its not me with the contact, its LL.

LL:
pls keep seagal & all of us posted abt Hua Language!

Elmo:
baby porridge is not room service; they will cook and serve it to you in the restaurant (regardless chinese or western).
As for plain adult congee - i think the chinese restaurant has it for breakfast, but it will prob contain msg etc.
If you call the F&B manager to order your baby porridge, they won't put MSG etc.

Dean was only 5months old when he went for the cruise. It was v easy for me cos he was still on total breast-feeding, so i only had to bring a water bottle & clothes!

FYI cruise also gives free bottle heinz baby food. They will insist on heating it up for you (ie open the bottle) but you can tell them NOT to cos its not your baby's feeding time yet. They're quite nice, really.

Oh yes, do bring a sweater for Shannon - most parts of the cruise is air conditioned, so it gets quite cold.

The cot was ok, but the mattress was lousy cos dean sank in ... no spinal support etc. So he ended up sharing my bed.

Anyway the room is super duper crammed with the cot in it... i had the balcony room, and the cot took up all available free space!

If you can, try to bring a small & compact pram. I broought my monsterous Graco, and it took up the entire space at the entrance!

Clothes & diapers: oh yes, like what LL said. 80% of your luggage belongs to your kid. The remaining 20% is shared betwn daddy & mommy!

have u booked yet?
is yours the wed / fri or sun cruise?

KC: yeah, thanks for the tips!
Lach tipped me off that crayola has some long sleeve aprons, so i'm gonna check that out first.

If its not suitable, then no choice - Dean will just paint in this home t-shirt before changing out again.

Tks!

Yuru,

U shld let cindy try wearing slipper. Starting, she may look weird when walking with it or refuse to wear but after awhile i belive she will get use to it. Nat ve 2 pairs now and she walk well with it. Last time i oso quite relunctant to let her wear but aft i saw a neigbour tod walk so well with the slipper, i decide to get one for her. U may try the slip on type 1st, just like the one wilfred is wearing. Believe me, cindy will look cute when wearing slipper.

cody,
sala la..
crayola has the normal apron. cheap @$7??
Mothecare has long sleeve bibs.
i super ks, so for dirtying herself, rae has:
-crayola apron (gift from her pretty aunty feline)
-Mothercare long sleeve bib (Plastic sleeved) so its easier to wash
-Miffy Long sleeve bib (Cloth sleeved)

but its a good idea to bring a change of clothings or let dean wear a long sleeve tee tat he can dirty.

evelyn au,
long time never see ur posting..
no wonder..
you've been busy holidaying!
wilfred looks 'pretty' with the flower..hehe

agree tat 'cc' helps kids to be independent.
but this mother (me) doesnt want to be independent leh..hehe. potato is still a baby to me, so cant bear to send her till shes abt 3.. (i noe its the mum who cant cut the apron string, not the baby)
potato has many yrs ahead to learn independence, so i want to baby her still..some of those good habits she can learn at home or pick up later.
and thankfully my m&m teaches her good habits
i very 'shi pai' hor..

ELMO,
long time no see,....
shannon really has the sweet, girl next door look. where got boi. u want boiboi look, look at shannons ex room-mate.
have a great cruise..

LL,
thanks. keep us updated

yu,
thanks for the update on TBL.
hows mummy n baby?

yuru,
i dun hate la.. just bored..
tats y always late..hehe

sharing on cc. (nothing new to many)
headache. i so lazy to do research
but heard from frens (in education line) tat
-pap follows moe curriculum n the teaching methodology is similar.
so the child fits into primary school more easily as its a 'natural progression'.
the child is more used to sitting down n doing work etc..used to the tr giving attention to other kids. used to waiting for their turns etc.

-pte cc. in primary one, the kids are very much more vocal, inquisitive, creative, n has better general knowledgeable. but needs alot more attention. not use to big classroom setting with only one teacher. etc

these are just some generalisations.
more have pros n cons.

Seagal,
Nice collage done, I like!

Lach,
Making me envy that dress.. now u telling me the BP no stock

Cody,
Hows dean class at KM? can give me some feedback?
Btw, have seen those waterproof apron at toysRus jurong point before..
U can try kiddy palace also.. u tried? Think have seen before leh.. is elmo one..
Kids mall IMM maybe also..not sure is mall or palace leh

Evelyn,
Yr boy so cheerful! Nice pics!

Elmo,
Wow, yr gals eyes are nice! Big big I like!

Mngo,
That armani hair style stylo leh

whoa, that's many layers that rae wears!

just bought the crayola apron, only $5+ !!
no sleeves tho, but better than nothing lah...

elmo: tks!! i'll remember to check out those places u mentioned.

KM: dean started the KM todds class 1mth below the recommended age. he was abit slow to follow initially, dunno whether it was becos he was underage or becos it was his first time attending such classes.

now that we're into his 5th lesson, he is alot more responsive to the activities and he is obviously enjoying himself.

I'm not so critical about the learning / teaching aspects, as long as dean enjoys himself!

yuru,
i do the collages only when I have time ... =)

some recipes to try for our todds over the weekend ...

Wild Mushroom Rice Pilaf

Wild mushrooms are soaked and chopped for this tasty recipe. The soaking liquid, along with chicken broth, adds flavor to this dish.

INGREDIENTS:
1 ounce dried porcini mushrooms
1 ounce dried shiitake mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley
1 medium tomato, seeded, diced
1 cup long-grain rice, uncooked
chicken broth
liquid from soaking mushrooms

PREPARATION:
In a bowl, cover mushrooms with boiling water; set aside.

In a medium saucepan, melt butter with olive oil over medium-low heat; add onions and celery.

Cook, stirring, until vegetables are tender.
Add minced garlic, parsley, and tomato. Stir in rice.

Meanwhile, strain mushroom liquid into a 2-cup measure. Rinse the mushrooms and chop. Add enough chicken broth to the cup of mushroom soaking liquid to make 2 cups; add to the rice mixture along with the mushrooms.

Cover and cook over low heat, adding more chicken broth if needed. Converted rice might take a little more broth. Serves 4 to 6.

Chicken Pilaf

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup long grain rice, uncooked
1 1/2 cup chopped onions
1 cup dry white wine or unsweetened apple juice
1 teaspoon dried leaf thyme, crumbled, or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped thyme leaves
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 to 3 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 to 1 1/2 pounds boneless chicken breast halves or tenders, skin removed, cut into 2-inch pieces
10 ounces frozen green peas, rinsed under cool water to break up
3 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley

PREPARATION:

Spray 3 quart saucepan or skillet with nonstick cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat.

Add rice and heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned; reduce heat to medium.

Stir in onions, wine or apple juice, thyme, and pepper.

Cook for about 2 minutes or until liquid has evaporated. Stir in 1 cup of the broth.

Cook 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until liquid has evaporated. Stir in additional 1 cup broth.

Stir in chicken, peas and remaining 1 cup chicken broth. Cover and cook 5 minutes.

Stir in some or all of remaining 1/2 cup broth if needed to keep rice from sticking. Cover and cook about 5 minutes or until liquid has evaporated.

Rice should be tender and chicken no longer pink in center. Remove from heat and stir in chopped parsley. Serves 4.

cody,
my hubby can't even taste the difference between chicken, pork, mutton, beef, etc. what do u think ? haha.

Baby Jumper Gym trial at Orchid Country Club,
calling Eve Leo, u wanna join me for the trial tomorrow ?

The class (Little Walkers) will be at 1130am. There are 5 students in the class so they can take in 2 more. Trial fee : $20.

Need to confirm by this evening so pls let me know asap k ?

Lach, is this potato's class ?

seagal,
nope. hers is later slot.
maybe i can go same time if my fren not dropping by.... hehe.

and i want to be ur guinea pig..pls feed me fat fat

lach,
oh really ? Eve Leo can't join so they still have 1 vacancy for the morning class.

Actually, I called up the Pasir Ris branch first. Was told that each branch's under a different management and the lady started rattling off details on the course fees, regn fee and materials fees even when i was only asking about the trial class - not impressive.

Called OCC branch after that and found out that their fees are lower than PR. The person i spoke to is also more sincere so I decided to go for the trial there.

seagal,
is it? price different? why like tat.
occ lady (kah hong) is fantastic.
i just drop by last yr n she showed me the place n prog personally.. so patient.
no hard sale from her. very sincere n helpful.
when rae went mia for awhile earlier this yr, she called n ask how is she..

lach,
oh yes, she's the lady i spoke to.
very nice of her to call and asked about rae. hmm...so my hunch was right. OCC should be better....hee.

dunno why the difference in fees but i guessed different mgt that's why... PR even split the walkers class into Walkers 1 ($350) and Walkers 2 ($370) vs $320 at OCC. Materials fees also $5 more than OCC...

Mngo,
Your boy's hair looks like pretty low maintainance
happy.gif

Shannon's hair is quite long but little. So when I try to clip or tie, falls off easily. Need to bring her for a haircut liao.

LL,
Thanks for the tips. is it safe to use the water from tap and boil it for milk making? Me a bit reluctant to lug all the water on board.
What kind of baby food did u bring? Were they all bottled ones?
Any mummies tried the pigeon dried food where u can just pop into microwave? I am tempted to try those on board.

seagal,
Waah u very sharp. The last pic was taken 1 mth ago...thus shorter fringe. I was quite happy being able to resize my pic so decided to practise more mah so chose another pic to show off lor...hehe sorry not in order.

Cody,
Mine is the Wed to Fri cruise. Actually quite a short one but the logistics are making me sweat just thinking about them.
So the baby porridge I just ask when I sit at the restaurant izit? Then they will prepare for me? That's nice.

My room also balcony cuz scared too cramp with cot if I take the staterooms. Is it worthwhile to bring pram along? I am still thinking whether to bring or not.

Yuru,
Thanks

Is Cindy attending GUG?

Elmobbger,
Thanks! Saw a pic of your gal...such a nice smile.
She attending GUG too?

lach,
Nice toking to u. Great catching up. I am so looking forward to meet potato.
(BTW...shannon's current fave food is mashed potato...kekeke)

hi, me new here. just thinking whether has anybody heard abt BRIGHTSTAR CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE PTE. LTD at suntec. my son will turn 2 thid dec

elmo,
oic ...hee. shannon's hair grow so fast *envy envy*. =)

computer,
m afraid I can't give much feedback on BrightStar. One of my ex-colleague's dotter attending it and I didn't hear her complain so should not be too bad...

eve leo,
I signed up for BJG @ OCC. Their term just ended so just nice we signed up for the new term. Shermyn & Rae will be classmates come July! =)

no need to pay for the trial since i signed up with them. comes with a free tee shirt too.

didn't take much pics cos the class very small (only 5 kiddos) and no one else was taking pics so a bit pai seh to take. i only took a few photos.

like what Lach mentioned, the classrooms lack decor with the purpose of keeping the kids focused on what the teacher is showing them.

Their prog is what I am looking for for a start, a mix of brain-based & gym activities. Class size is also small (max. 7) which allows for more personal attention.

Let me try to recall the prog that day :

- Flash cards : hello song, nursery rhymes (both english and chinese)
- Songs and movement : both chinese and english
- Activities for training photographic memory (flashing of cards) and fine motor skills (stringing macoroni through a shoelace)
- Gym (equipment includes trampoline, see-saw, rocking horse, monkey bars, bouncy balls, cones & bars, a small tunnel and a mini slide) - nothing compared to those gym-based schools like My Gym and JW Tumbles but good enough for some physical play.

Here are the few pics taken ..

ac,
u r welcomed. =)
give it a try ... i cooked mushroom chicken pilaf for my gal and she quite like it, esp the mushrooms (i used fresh ones)!

Elmo,

Shannon's so kawaii with her demure smiles.
She's so guai, let u pinned her hair like that! My gal will yanked it off in no time!

elmo,
awwww shannon's so sweet!
i went for the same cruise - wed to fri is sufficient lah. else it will get boring.
with a toddler in tow, there's only a few activities you can do - swimming, eating and running along the aisles! :p

re the porridge - you have to tell them in advance. I think you can call the operator / general line to ask about it.

Pigeon porridge - i buy those that come in a square box. it contains 2 trays of porridge, abt $8 per box. the serving size is v small, my son eats 1.5box at each meal!
but its truly convenient, either microwave or submerge in hot water to heat it up.

they have numerous flavours - those with seaweed are the ones that taste the most different. My son only likes one type- Sea Bream with rice.
I guess its becos this one tastes alot more similar to the home-cooked porridge.

But i have to inform you tho, that the pigeon porridge contains some soya sauce in the ingredient. It's not overly salty, but fyi lah.

Pram: i'd still bring one so that shannon can lie on it to sleep while mommy / daddy goes to do other things!
happy.gif

Seagal,

Tks for posting the pics n update me the programs. It sound interesting.... but too bad i can enrol nat now. If not shermyn, patato n nat can be in the same class. Can tell shermyn enjoy herself in the class, look at her serious look, haha.... Wat happen to her cheek, mosquito bite?
