(2004/12) Year 2004 December Mummies

lachesiz:
oh noooooooo!
i was just going to sign dean up for a trial at zoophonics.
If they're no good, do u know of any others who are good in phonics?

I recall you mentioned Growing Up Gifted...
refresh this old woman's memory please?

Thank you!!

lach,
wah ...so ex. do u know of any cards we can buy commercially on zoophonics ?

1hr for BJG is good. i like it that they have both gym and other activities e.g. flashcards. haven't had the chance to call them yet though ..

just finished this latest collage ..

Cody...choi.....actually itz pretty X for dat Osim thermometer. My sis got an Omron one wic oso pretty good & oso abt the same price...guessed itz an investment then.

Seagal...O...NO....not another shopping spree...aiyoh, I better not look into it...like wat Yuru said....U OSO EVIL!!!!

Hei mommies, anyone of u experiencing heavy menstruation flow after birth? Mine used to be moderate & lasted for 7 days nett but now it wld stop on the 7th day but the staining will go on for another week...

cody,
maybe its just my luck cos tat day the classroom was real packed! abt 12 kids (inclu feline n mine)
hope my memory serves me well:
-warm up songs, wif actions
-story telling. with action sounds n actions.
-zoophonics. from letter a to z. it was slightly more detailed than gug style.
-arts n crafts(as there were too many kids, one group free play , one group do crafts then rotate)
-a boy brought cake n celebrated his bday. so we spend time eating cake.
-goodbye songs

the tr did mention they will do word blend etc but i see none of tat tat day.
at least gug focus on letter of the day n talk abt words starting with that letter/sound.

maybe its just my luck. but feline n i were disappointed.$25 gone. and a fren who attended the trial at bt timah walked out halfway.
the admin was nice though.

why dun you go for the trial as it might be different.
------------------------------------------

GUG:
will be progressing to the tod class next term.
elmo, elmobbger, yuru also attending GUG. maybe can hear from them.. good to hear different views.

-----------------------------------------------
seagal,
i meant jwt trial so ex! $40!!
i think bjg is abt $25-30.
maybe ac n mapleleaf can share more abt right brain stimulations. they are the experts!
----------------------------------------------
cards: purchased from gug/zoophonics school.
i tik u have to be a student there to purchase?
i am not too sure abt it. yuru? elmobbger?

------------------------------------------------
seagal,
the middle row, left n right pic .. how old was she? n u have my fave rapper pic..hehe

------------------------------------------------
yu,
what bumper u toking abt?
(though i have none to let go... watever it is..)
:p

Yuru, Elmobbger, seagal, LL
To give an inkling how the 18m sizing look on potato.
sad.gif

Dont laugh at the ridiculous outfit.
she looks like a fashion disaster from rosie's wardrobe..
sad.gif

Front view
(see her remaining short stump still showing?)

Back view
(the excess material enhances her big butt nicely)

Side View
(enough space to stuff one melon in front)
440829.jpg

Note tat potato is short n stout.
Don't think the rest of your darlings will have this 'problem'.. especially STEFFI!!!

tat said, i am getting size 3T cos i figure tat this 18m cutting 'SHOULD' fit her 'NICELY' 'hopefully' when she turns 2. so will last for hopefully for a yr.

tat said.. i am very shallow hor...hehe

(ps: pls dun link the BP thread to this hor..)

seagal,
cos she looks chubbier n more babyish..hehe.
seems like all the gym workout has removed some chubbyness
happy.gif

potato was never a gym baby.. sigh. shes real clumsy
sad.gif

Hei all mommies....a lot of talking abt play school/gym, how many r there huh? Can name all them? Me oso need to send Stef to one....
Btw, had a call fm a Mandarin School saying dat they wld be having one playgroup conducted in Mandarin soon, can't remember the name, think itz Hua Language located near to Parkway Parade.

Hua Lang? they have a branch over at US rite?
i tot its meant for older toddler to school going age?
LL, can find out more? thanks

Lach,
pleeaaaze, rae ann doesn't look ridiculous in the the PRL tennis dress. it's just a bit long now, should fit her just nice in a few months time.

It's 18m size right ? gosh, i ordered 3T through the BP - dun think shermyn can wear even next year!

i noticed the little blue armchair at your house. where u buy from ? very nice leh.

LL,
heard that Berries is really good for mandarin classes.

Seagal:
oooh mandarin class, tell me more !!

Lach:
come lah, next sunday will be fun with you around!
wanna ask you - how many enrichment classes does Rae attend in a week? 3/4/5/6? Seems to me like its ALOT.
Max is 2 for me, one on sat and one on sun. With that kind of arrangement, i feel as if my weekends have been burnt already.
sad.gif

LL:
hee hee, the Osim thermometer is my second one!
my first, the Braun ... so expensive yet cannot read temp fast enough. Braun needs 5seconds vs Osim 1second only!

cody,
i have just heard very good reviews about Berries from 2 of my friends, 1 of them took a dip in early childhood education. Haven't had the chance to check them out yet.

u can't beat me leh ... i have been too lazy to send Shermyn for enrichment classes at all... once a week is siong enough for us as weekends are for doing housework as well! *sigh*

daffy,
ur part time cleaner good or not ? recalled u mentioned that u engaged her twice a month. how much har ?

seagal:
oh ... when you mentioned Berries ... i tot you were talking abt berry the mommy at the year end thread. heee ...
does Berries have a website?

Lach:
you make a good salesperson for GUG.
after your comments, despite the high cost, i am tempted to attend a trial now!
happy.gif

WHOAAAAAAA
just surfed the GUG website ... the toddler class is 2 hours?

mannnnnn my monkey Dean won't be able to tahan 2hours i'm sure!

MOVIES:
anyone brought their todds for a movie before?
am tempted to bring dean to watch CARS but i worry his attention span won't last throughout the movie.
can't imagine climbing up and down the stairs with dean as well, given the sky high prices of movie tickets now!

seagal:
aiyah i only just started ... and the weekly trip to "school" is already starting to get tiring, but its all worth while when you see your kid enjoying the lesson.

i started off this whole enrichment programme thing mainly cos i wanted dean to learn some social interaction. he was starting to get selfish and possessive of his toys etc, and certainly very anti-social.

now that we're into our 5th lesson, i think dean is adapting well and learning the concepts of sharing, returning and clearing up. GOOD!

another reason why i decided to blast the money: weekly lessons were a great time for daddy bonding! (while mommy shops!
happy.gif
)

Cody,

Found the website :
http://www.berriesworld.com/aboutberries/aboutberries.htm

whoa .... u very good hor, can take the chance to go shopping. i should learn from you. hee.

Movies
we have not thot of bringing shermyn to the muvees ... . not sure if the sound system's too loud and if she'll be afraid of the darkness ...

Mozzie Band / Patch
anyone has good recommendations or have tried any ?

eh ....there's a BP on the GONE mozzie bands .... thot it will be good for trips to the parks or zoo.

seagal:
tks for the link! i goggled Berries but couldn't find its website earlier ...

anti-Mosq:
i tried the patches - they're no good. they come off VERY EASILY when stuck onto clothes or skin.
plus the citronella smell is v v v strong.

mosq bands: not sure if its the same one we're talking about, but i bought mine thru the BP organised by Karen. Those are not bad, easy to use and pleasant fragrance.
Only problem is the price (ard $9 per band after BP) and its had to keep track when the effect has worn off. The band can last for 120hours, but how to track unless u leave it there all day?
I only use if when i go for walks with dean.

Mosq bands - some kids may not like having things banded around them eg dean. In his case, the mosq band is effective only when dean sits on his pram with the band attached. no pram means no protection from mosq.

Apply-on mosq repellent:
this is my FAVOURITE.
cheapest, smells best and best coverage & protection.
Buy the Johnsons & johnsons one, green bottle abt $8 i think.
apply generously to all exposed areas, and re-apply when necessary.
suitable for babies 6months and above too!
Non-greasy, no residue etc.
Easy to apply too!

Another brand of spray-on mozq repellent is MOSQ-AWAY. Ard $6 per bottle, but the citronella smell is v v v strong.

Conclusion: J&J mosq for dean and his mommy please!

cody
I do bring Elicia to see movie before, 1st is before she turn 6mths. That time still small, still bf so she very co-op as she sleep and latch on while we watching. 2nd time is when she is 7-8mths old, this time very bad. She keep on making so much noise and other ppl keep on looking at us, so pehsei... Then Now we dun bring her anymore coz too scare!!

movie?
i have not tried and i dun take to take up this challenge. chances would be i'll be running round the cinema chasing after declan

Yu, Mngo:
yeah me too, i share the same sentiments.
I fear that i will pay the cinema operator $10 just to run around their theatre.
Also worry that i will get pop corn / coke / hot dogs thrown at me for disturbing the other patrons!

seagal,
that short short blue chair suits rae cos its very very low. n make a silly squeaking sound.
bot it a my friendly neighbourhood store.
happy.gif

Berries? good? thanks.

cody,
I am only free on weekends so wat do you think.
happy.gif

one on sat n one on sun. thinking of adding KM on sat evening..hehe.. hb stared real hard at me.
me also contemplating to send her for weekday class, accompanied by m&m. but most prob not.
but she enjoys all her classes so tot its better than her staying at home when i work.

I am still looking around. I have a few in mind but wants to explore other options.

------------
GUG.
erm.. actually, i am getting bored of the GB class. was telling yuru maybe contd for 1-2 more terms.
so looking forward to the Tods class.
--------------

and stupid lazy me didnt know that some cc (or watever u call it) has a long wait list of 1.5-2 years!
arghhhhh.. panic button.. mayday mayday.
though hb only intend to send potato to one when shes abt 3, i need to do research n reserve place now rite??

my place a dry area for good ones.. sian....

cody,
2hrs!! is it!?
for the GB class, though state 1.5hr, technically only 1hr cos theres water break in between n free play before class.

agree tat the enrichment classes helped potato limited social skills.
she learned to keep n return. (sounds basic but it took a long while for her to learn to RETURN the instrument/material to the teacher)

Movies:
I was just telling hb, lets try our luck.
but till now, we have no guts to do it..hehe

J&J repellent,
I dun own a bottle but a good friend shared and slab some on potato and its effective.
smells heavenly too.

cody,
mozzie band effective huh ? ok ..maybe i'll buy some to test although i have a feeling shermyn won't want to put it on as well.

how to track the 120 hrs ? does it mean it's not in "use" when u keep it or once we start using, the effect will last for 120 hrs ? the latter easier to keep track ...

Oooh ... so J&J lotion has generally quite good comments. I remember I have bought a bot and it has been sitting comfortably somewhere in my cupboard... will dig it out to try. hee...

lach,
i heard must also start queueing for nursery too as the waitlist for some can be up to 2 years.

seagal:
the mosq band .... ooooh good question, if that's the case, 120hours could also mean from the time of manufacture hor?

well, the instructions state that the 120hours start from the time you cut the air-tight packaging.
when its not in use, put it back into the packaging (comes with a ziplock) to retain the mosq repellent capabilities.

the 120hours is the length of time that the band is exposed & in use.

J&J repellent is better i feel. No need to track what 120hours, etc. Just apply and go! Bottle finish means buy new one!

Lach:
you're right, there are Looooooooooooooooooong waiting queues at the good schools.
Seems like you want to start Rae on a playgroup asap? I know most of them state that the child has to be min 2 years and potty trained.

When checking schools be it childcare or kindergartens, MUST check their toilet hygiene.
One kindergarten in serangoon ... made all the kids pee into the SAME potty.
Teacher will only clear the potty after all 20girls have peed into it.
NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!

While we are on the topic of kindergarten,
i'm going to sign up for the one nearest to my MIL's house. Gotta make it convenient for her to send Dean to/fro.
There's one that's just walking distance!
as long as they pass my hygiene test, then that's the school that dean will be attending!

It's not a famous school, but it also has a 2 year waiting list!
OMG!!!

cody,
u r making me panic as well ... so fast must start looking around already ah. gosh ... i haven't even decide on the the PG yet.

which kindy u enrolling Dean in ?

seagal:
its Clementi Woods Kindergarten.
just a neighbourhood school, but there's a loooooong q to get in!!

the next alternative, which i most likely won't subscribe to, is a PAP kindergarten.

cody
is PAP not too good? my ex colleague send her son to PAP. her rational to me is PAP follow MOE syllabus. and then.. if the child goes to Primary School, he will not be bored. Cos he will not be "overlearnt" in PAP.

where as if she send her son to private kindergarden, she is afraid her son will know all the things before prim 1 and will sleep in school during pr 1. i also dunno which is gd

mngo:
i'm not biased agst PAP nor their teachers or syllabus.
Just that i can see the vast difference betw a pte kindergarten and a PAP one.

My neighbour's kid goes to a PAP kindergarten - her knowledge is really just what the textbook offers. She can write, read, draw etc. But no singing, etc.

My niece on the other hand, goes to a pte kindergarten (not a branded one eg pat schoolhouse type) - her classes are always full of activity from song & dance, to excursions to concerts etc.

PAP kindergarten has none of that, that's why i choose to let dean go to a pte kindergarten.
Also, if its an moe-syllabus, our kids are going to have lots of that when they entre pri 1 all the way to JC.

Since the first few years of school is supposed to be fun, i think i'd prefer dean to be in a pte kindergarten.....

This is strictly my opinion ...

cody
think i will send declan to pte ones.. cos i prefer like those got singing, dancing, excursion bla bla... that kind one.

Hi mummies,

Have not posted for a long time.
Finally took some pics of Shannon today and decide to move my lazy butt and post one of her pics
happy.gif

441527.jpg

Nah! Lend you my CD player for 1 sec. Dun cry ok?

Hiaks! got to resize like mad. Any one using a mac over here? Can give me tips on how to resize quickly?

BTW I will be bringing Shannon for a cruise end of this month.
Will be her very first time lor.

I am more nervous than her. Scared that she will refuse to sleep on board.

Can anyone share their tour experiences with me? What are the MUST to bring and do?

Thanks
happy.gif

hi elmo
your gal is so pretty leh! I am jealous. heee...
very nice eyes.

errr.. u hv photoshop in mac? if u hv, maybe u can use photoshop to resize it

Hi elmo
cruise? i have never tried before. But one thing lor. if they are tired , they will sleep anywhere one lah. unless our kiddo is so super that they can dun sleep for 2-3 days?

More pics

441538.jpg

441539.jpg

Shannon with Gravity defying hair....

441540.jpg

Ahhh...neat hair at LAST!

Elmo,
Shannon such a pretty girl! Nice pics!

Cody,
PAP kindergarten no good meh? Jia lat, last mth I just registered for my elder son for the next year K1 class leh!
But my neighbor kid also goes to a PAP kindergarten they do have singing leh!

mngo,
ya, we had a great trip in Msia. Ate a lot! Thats why I gain weight again!!! Hahaha!

Emmmm, currently I send my elder son to NTUC childcare. Find that he enjoys study there and more independent than last time. They also more focus on singing, dancing, drawing, outing and etc.

Btw, ladies
Kindly refer my post to Jan05 thread today:

Hi ladies,
Just my though lah, send our kids to childcare for the first two years better than those 2hourly playgroup cos they can learn how to independent from the childcare. Wesley really learnt a lot of things from there, such like toilet-trained, how to bath himself, self-feed, help to clean the table after meals, changing his own cloths, tidy up his bed, keep toys and etc. Only one thing no good is easily to get sick once if got a kid unwell in the childcare.

Recently Wilfred had learnt from his kor kor how to keep toys. Actually I just knew it yesterday when I wanted to bring him to downstairs. So surprised that when saw him busy keeping the toys. Then my maid told me every time before Wilfred take a nap in the afternoon; he will make sure keep all the toys in the toyogo box. Im so happy to hear that.

Elmo,

You have a pretty girl! And Shannon looks like the quiet shy shy type! I like!
happy.gif

Cody and Lach,

Arghhhhhh! You guys are making me panic as well! I need those childcare more desperately than you with number 2 coming and I have no clue where is what near my place! Help anyone?!!

Cody,

PAP Kindy, me and hubby always joked about it!
happy.gif

Yes! I think location is most important, can't imagine sending them on schoolbus to say Pat schoolhouse at this age!

One more thing, see you this Sunday yes / no?

Can some kind mummies direct me to the website where I can print out list of childcare by location? And when is nursery going age? Nursery 2 years, Kindy 2 years then Primary 1 isist?

Eve au:
yes pap kindergarten has singing but not much.
the difference betw my neighbour's kid and my niece is really Great.
My niece knows alot more general knowledge she learnt from school, the neighbour's kid knows stuff from his textbook only.

Aiyah, since you registered already then just remain there lor.

I think alot also depends on the teacher ....

KC:
LOL i took a long time to understand too!
here goes:

2years old: 2hour playgroup daily (without adult accompaniment). Condition: your kid must be toilet-trained.

3-4 years old: Nursery

5-6years old: Kindergarten - must attend at least 1 year, compulsory by law

7 years old: Primary One - compulsory by law

Elmo, i brought Dean on a cruise before.
Can give u tips...
actually i posted them on a thread before, the title is something like "Cruising with baby".

if you can't find that thread, then maybe i email you the tips?

one more thing to add to that thread:
- star virgo staff can cook baby porridge for you. you have to tell them in advance, and you can choose what ingredients to go into the porridge eg fish/pork etc - based on what's available on the boat of course.
- they also offered to blend the porridge to puree it.
- they can sterilise milk bottles for you, but their policy is that they will take the bottles from you, sterilise it, and return it to you in a ziplock bag.
- baby bathtub and cot is available FOC, but you must tell them in advance (preferably through your travel agent)

URGENT:
does anyone know of any "aprons" that kids can wear for art and craft?
pref like a long sleeves apron?

Dean is attending a trial lesson on sat, and its going to be messy PAINT!!!

for those of u who know me better .... i almost fainted at the thot of dean picasso-ing away.
can't imagine the paint dirtying his clothes, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!

SO, if any of you have seen a bib/apron/whatever that's meant for art and craft, that covers the kid as much as possible ... PLS LET ME KNOW !!

Thank you!!!
happy.gif

i have seen a long sleeve bib before but i think it may not be good enough.

think if i'm desparate, i will let dean wear either a raincoat or 2-3layers of old clothes (so that the paint doesn't soak thru)!

can't let dean pain in topless either cos got aircon ...aiyah headache.....
