So I look for Jorubi brand's vit E oil? It's effective for old scar too?

Both my sons and me are somehow allergic to mosquitoes bites I think. Usually mossies bite will itch and swell a little, reddish and will go off in a while but for the 3 of us, it'll take a week to go off. It'll swell up to 5 times the size of normal swelling.. itch is so bad that you can't resist scratching and worse is, the more you scratch, the bigger the swelling become. When it finally settles, the whole bite site will have a big round scar which never seems to go away..

moshi

regarding seat belts. I've been making use of traffic police to belt them up but recently, when I mention TP, both of them jumped to their feet and ask "where?"

I've tried making cookies using egg tart's crust in toaster.. you will have to be careful as you'll need to take them out before they turn brown else by the time it settles, it'll turn charred!!!!

share with you gals my mother's day present for my mum and grandmother.. I bake the tarts using stainless steel pots. (may turn out nicer if it's done with oven but I don't own one)

Hi Joanne,
Abt mosquitoes bite cream, I have been using this brand called Soov (pink color packaging). It's gel form. You can find it in phamacies. I find it's better than traditional mopiko. From what I observed, there are hardly any scars on myself or Aston.

hi joanne
lovely tarts, colour looks gd, how do u bake in stainless steel pots?

mozzie bite, mel is like u guys, very sensitive to it, when it gets too big, i use steroid(hydrocortisone) as a last resort. otherwise, aloe vera gel first to soothe the itch. some PDs may suggest oral anti-histamine to relieve itch.
I've given up on anti-mozzie patches, they do nothing but burn a hole in my pocket.

Hi Joanne,

Becos I also do not have oven, U make so tempted to bake cookies using stainless steel pot. Will u share the baking steps in the blog ?

Emily
You've done a great job. It's never easy to be a mother whether it's SAHM or FTWM.. Each mum have their stressful time..
I had both confinement by myself too so I can feel the stress on you. My advise, nap when your baby is napping, play with her when she needs your company. House chores.. Ignore! unless your hubby volunteers..

Hi ky!

I would have told the child the seat belt and no eating as a matter of fact:
E.g. like
Please put on your seat belt coz I don't want to get into trouble with the traffic police.
Oh, sorry. We don't eat in the car. Otherwise the cockroaches will come out to eat the crumbs. Now, you don't want to have a cockroach sitting next to you the next time, right?

I'm sure any reasonable mom will not mind that. That's for everyone's benefit!

Apricot, moshi
just lay a sheet of aluminium foil in the pot and warm it under low fire. It creates a baking effect. But it takes a longer time compared to oven if I'm not wrong. Will blog steps when I have the time.

I have tried making cookies using pot but end up having a charred bottom with soggy top. But with toaster, it turns out just nice.

Apricot
I'm currently using Vyling Cream recommended by my aunt. It has a cooling effect which I love as swelling are usually itchy and hot.

moshi
have you tried One-der mosquito spray? It's exactly the same as the patches. I bought one at $11.90 last yr and still using it everynight. Will spray on their pillow, mattress or back of their pjyamas to keep mosquitoes away. It's long lasting compared to patches. Does aloe vera gel helps in soothing itch?

Hi Emily. I don't remember you in the forum maybe because I don't come in that frequently and tend to miss postings here and there. It must be tough doing confinement alone and if it's not too late, perhaps you can still get some help eg ordering confinement tingkat meals or getting a part-time helper to do some of the household chores. Getting help during confinement tends to burn a big hole in the pocket but I believe that the long term health benefits will most certainly outweigh the one-time cost. Do take good care of yourself.

Joanne, pls share the recipe for your lovely egg tarts for both oven toaster and stainless steel pot. JK will be thrilled if I could make them. He loves egg tarts.

Moshi, for cookies, can use those instant mix?

Serenade, it's good to know that you are looking forward to coming home. Do be prepared for some reverse culture shock during the first few months though.

As for airforce museum, ask your hubby not to worry. The kids will be thrilled just seeing some real planes live! And we can still go if he's not free to be the guide.

ky, I can fully identify with you abt the "no food in car rule". Hubby was really strict abt this and the seat belt thing too. So whenever I have to tell someone abt these 2 rules, I will use my husband as the shield by saying that he's very "geow" abt these things so please comply, before I start the car.

On souvenirs from fire station, they give out helmets, comic story books and activity books to all visitors regardless of individual or group visit.

Moshi and Sarah, if meeting on 29 May, would you be keen to meet for lunch followed by free lunchtime concert at Esplanade from 12.45pm to 1.15pm? I will probably bring only JK. Ky, will you be able to join if on?

For other options, I'm ok with anything except the zoo as we've just been recently and it will be a very long journey there without the car.

Ok, now I have to vent out something. JK's sch will have parent-teacher review next week and we've been allocated 10 min like moshi but the sch will be closed for TWO days for this purpose. Never mind, then I just got a circular to inform us that there will also be an art fair where our kids' art and craft will be put up for SALE!!! Every one item will cost $8 while every two will cost $10 and the funds will go into children's activities in 2007.

Whichever way I think abt it, I just can't help feeling indignant. Why is my child's work on sale when I'm already paying sch fees and misc fees? And why do they need extra funds for activities when they are already collecting fees and extra costs whenever there is an outing? Even if they are seeking donations for the church or something, I just feel it's totally unacceptable that they use the children's work to "force" parents into paying. This comes across to me like a ransom to release what rightfully belongs to my child. JK's previous playgroup and childcare centre had always returned the full set of work done for the term without making us pay. What do you girls think? Anyway, I have asked hubby to convey our views to the principal tomorrow cos I'm so pissed I'm afraid I will bring up other things like their too-frequent off days and increase of fees by $100 per term!

Meilan,Moshi,
What's the concert about? Lunch sounds good.

If we are meeting another day, how about Ikea's play area for the kids? Never been there though. I heard there's a basement indoor playground in Plaza Singapura. Are you aware of it?

Hi Joanne,
So is Benny going for the sch's outing? If you are concerned about food, why not pack some snacks for him? That way, he can still have fun.

Are you still normal stainless pot for baking? I know there are some which you can use to bake/cook.

Hi Meilan

I'll talk to the principal on the concerns and get her opinions... yes, true true, why is the school selling the kids' art pieces and who's checking the financial accounts (why the need to raise funds, deficit, etc), etc. Each time I have an issue, I'll talk to the principal or supervisor. Sometimes we do not see their point of view or their difficulties, or they do not understand our concerns. If after speaking to the principal, I do not agree with the rationale, I'll start to question if it's a school I believe in or if it's something I'm willing to compromise. This was how it led to us leaving Ben's first school. And in the current school, early this year, I had some concerns but after speaking to the principal, I was re-assured.... so Meilan, go and speak your heart out. To an educator who kept looking at the clock, I'll also be unhappy.... yes, perhaps I'm a mother who's asking too much, but so far, the teachers in Ben's school are usually the ones that would go on and on when I initiated a talk and I'm the one who's looking at the clock.

Would not be able to join in the Esplanade lunch-hour concert. Ben's having school and it's not worth pulling hin out and travelling 3 hrs for an 1/2 hr show. hope you understand ... we are planning for outings to the zoo, bird park, escape theme park, more for Keith's sake since he's older now and hardly been to these places.

.ky.

ladies
what do i do with which are hard like stones? I have already refrigerated them, is it ok to take them out again and leave them on the table to ripen?

meilan
i like the idea of an art fair to raise funds, just feel that they are sold on the 'high' side. what sort of activities are the funds used for?

hey joanne
i recall that u mentioned that u are celebrating your BD this month. Serenade is also a May baby and so am I. Happy birthday to us!

hi meilan!

ask the principal how this sounds:

Sorry, dear, Mommy doesn't have enough money to buy the cute puppet you made in class.

How does a kid take ownership of his work when he's raised up in this manner? He's been robbed!

Come on, there are other ways to raise funds. How about a potluck pitched in by the parents to raise funds at such a fair?
Or a yard sale where all proceeds go to the school?

I can sense the indignity too...

Sarah
Benny is going ahead with the outing. During my school time, I never missed a single outing. I didn't wanna disappoint him as he's aware of it so I just let him go ahead. He'll be back in school by 1pm.. I don't think he'll mind having late lunch for the sake of the birdies..

Regarding stainless steel pot, I'm using Barazzoni pot. I bought only the small soup pot.. can fit in only 4 tarts. Very very ex $$$$$

It's ok moo87, right now Benny's wound is drying up so he's feeling the itch but lucky he doesn't dare to touch the site. Maybe I'll apply it on him when he's completely healed.

Hello ! It's so quiet these days. Are everyone ok ? Yesterday went for my checkup and so happy to see my twins ! They are growing normally so we are happy. Aston was there too to see his brothers over the ultrasound TV and he was so funny to think he will see the brothers delivered and we had a good laugh with my gynae and the nurse. Tentatively we are naming them Charlton & Eaton.

Hi Apricot
Glad to hear that your twins are doing great. Charlton;s a nice name and Eaton reminds me of the naughty boy in mel's class who gets punished every day haha.

hi meilan
sarah and i will be visiting Art Friend at ngee ann city on 29may to stock up on craft materials. would u like to join us? we'll probably do the concert some other time.

Hi mommies!

I am new here and have a 2003 girl. Would like to join this thread but I see a padlock icon on top that says thread closed. Does this mean we can't post any more message?

Hi Moshimoshi,
I will be at Takashimaya on this Sat to do shopping...yeah...GREAT SPORE SALES !!!! I like Art Friend too ! I am working on 29May so cannot join u gals. Maybe on leave on 1Jun and let's see if you will have programs for me to join you gals.

Are all the mummies working here? I'm a working mum. Yesterday, my girl came back from childcare and told me that the chinese speech & drama teacher kicked her because she was moving around in class and not paying attention. I was quite shocked! I think I should inform the principle.
