Dr Benjamin Tham from TMC

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. Was pregnant but had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. I'm seeing another gynae at TMC but gynae was overseas so during my miscarriage I had to be seen by another gynae and I'm glad they assigned me to Dr Benjamin Tham. He broke the news so gently and very professionally. He did my d&c procedure and I'm impressed by how gentle & kind he is.
Thumbs up for the service provided by nurses at TMC.
Overall I'm very pleased with how Dr Tham and TMC ward nurses handled the whole situation, especially during such a trying time like this for me and my husband.

Any mummies here can share, other than Dr Tham's package fees, do we have to pay for anything else? Cos Dr Tham emailed me his package and he charges 2k for csection, am wondering if his delivery charge is included in the hospital bill or paid to him direct?

Hi Butter waffles,

I was a patient with Dr Tham for both my pregnancy. The recent one was in Dec last year. Mine was an aspicious timing c section and was suppose to be charged $500 additional by Dr Tham. He was very kind to waive off for me. My 3 days 2 nights stay (4 bedders upgraded to 2 bedders foc), i paid a deposit of $1k (cash) during admission. When discharge, i paid abt $700-$800 (cash). So the total was $1.7 to $1.8k after deduction of medisave. Hope this info is useful to u.

Sharz, thank you very much! My #1 was under him as well. I supposed you delivered at TMC? I am going Mt. A but i'm just looking at his package and wondering about the charges stated as 1.2 for natural delivery etc etc and 2K for csection. He also emailed me the charges for TMC and Mt. A but am just confused because at KKH, it works abit differently. I've decided to go back to him as well thou i prefer delivering at KKH because i can't bear the thought of going under the knife under another gynae. I still trust him the most. Your auspicious timing was on a weekday or weekend, if u don't mind me asking? Heh.

Hi Ladies,

Jus wondering if anyone can provide some details for me?

Like how does Dr Tham charges like? I mean the delivery charges.. and any mummies have already gone thru delivery.. Like normal w/o epi? Total bill came up to?? thanks... =D

Just call up his clinic and found out this:

1st Consultation $100-150 (depending long or short)
Package Price $600 (from week 12) excludes vitamins and others test
Delivery fees $1200 (Normal without Epi)

If take up package, it will include 1 ultasound scan and given 1 picture, if more are require, additional $10 will be charge.

May i know is it true he charges for the photo print out? Was hesitating to go back to my #1 doc as her fees really very high now although she is very good.

my first visit to Dr Tham recently, consulation is $80, ultrascan is $30 (1 picture to take home) + urine test + some supplements, total ard $156.

agreed he's a gentle and soft spoken person, guess I'll most likely settle for him as my gynae. now waiting to see him again in 4 weeks' time to check for Down Syndrome.

Miracle 25,

The nurse on the phone told me is $100-$150 for 1st consultation. Why double standards?

Some mummies mention can bring thumb drive to save pic. Is it true? Then nO need to pay $10 for additional print out....

hi Firefly, I guess it's bcos it's my very 1st consultation and it varies for different patients.

Yes, I was told by the nurse abt the thumbdrive too.. but she didnt mention abt the $10. And it's not shown in my bill as well (mayb it's included in the $30 for ultrascan?)

Miracle25,

How was your experience with Dr Tham?
I'm tempted to switch to him not because mine is not good but her waiting time can be more than 1 hr.

Does Dr Tham gives MC readily ?

hi firefly,

tat was my 1st visit to him and I got to know abt him thru this forum. He looks quite patient, soft spoken person. I just got to know my sister's colleague got him as her gynae too. My appt time was 10.45am, we reached there ard 10.35am.. did a urine test and we waited like about 20-25 mins to see him, probably bcos it was a Tuesday so not many pple.

hmm, the nurse did asked if I need an MC, I didnt cos he's not my company panel doc so no point I take this MC. but my HR told me to get a referal letter from my company doc to appoint my gynae so that the company can recognise the MC.

Thanks miracle25.

Guess I will call for an appointment to see him. Half hour waiting time is acceptable for me. Dun have the energy to wait for more than 1 hr anymore.

I'm a Oct 2011 mum n is seeing Dr Ben Tham. He's indeed patient. Waiting time so far not more than 30mins regardless on a weekday or wkend.
I think Dr Tham is v pro natural. I'm v near my edd but he din mention anything abt inducing or such. I believe he is the kind that will ask me to wait for signs of labour than to "interfere". He Only say if bb too big then may need to c sec. Anyone with similar experience?

Hi all,
can i check how long does each visit takes when you visit Dr tham and whats the routine he does?

Cos im seeing another doc now whose entire visit takes at most 5mins. when i go in, scan immediately, ask some questions, and im done. don't even measure weight etc.. i find it too rushing for me and im afraid that he is not detailed enough as im a first time mummy. thinking of switching doctor.

can someone help to describe Dr Benjamin's visit norm procedures? thanks in advance.

My visits with Dr Ben ranges from 10 to 15 mins.

1. When u go to the clinic, u auto go weigh urself then tell the nurse ur weight when u give her ur appt booklet.

2. the nurse will then direct u to do ur urine test.

3. u wait outside dr ben's office, his nurse will pop out to measure ur blood pressure.

4. inside his office, dr ben will ask u how u are, do ultrasound to check ur bb's heartrate, head circumference, etc. then he will ask u if u got any problem, or need to top up any supplements. sometimes he will tell u extra info, like from wk 20 sld try to slp on side etc.

but to be fair to the doc, u have to prepare a list of qtns to ask them la, if not, just based on the scans etc, they will just take it that everything is fine.

Dr Tham is indeed a very caring and kind-hearted doc. He delivered my first child at KKH almost 4 years ago and my second one at TMC early jan this year. I have to be induced for both my pregnancy towards 41th week and 40th week respectively. He even allowed me to be discharged from the hospital one day earlier when I'm ok so that I can save on the hospital bill. You can hardly find such a kind-hearted doc who really care about his patients

Also, did you have natural w/o epi for your delivery?

Did u get free upgrade to 2-bedder room from 4 bedder ?

hi dears, I am a new mum and have just fixed my first appt with Dr Tham. Does anyone have any idea if his delivery charges will be different if I choose Mt A instead of TMC?

Hi Sweetsnow, sorry i am new to all these charges, the $2.5k after medisave is it just for delivery or include the maternity package?
Thanks!

dear all,
one quick question.

is there anything like
consultation on Saturday need to pay extra?

a bit pissed off by the counter nurse who claim it....

if very crowded, just say so.
don't need to lie.

hello!

would like to ask:

1.so he conducts his consultations in KKH and TMC?
2.he delivers at MT A?
3.Pregnancy Package is $600 from 12 wks until birth? (unlimited?)

Hi housewife,

regarding 3.
i think 11 times. (need to check tonight)
not unlimited.
and yes, $600 starting week 12.

Hi all,

I would like to seek your advice in the following:

I have been married for 6 years plus, really yearning for a child. Tried IUI & SO-IUI at Mt E for at least 5 times, but to no avail. Currently undergoing TCM treatment, so far so good. Wondering, should we consult Dr Tham again, since is highly recommendable by my cousin.. or stay put to try naturally again..? (Been trying for the past 6 mths.. )

Hi anyone tried SO-IUI with Dr Benjamin Tham?

How was it? cos i feel like change my gynea.

Thanks

Hello everyone! can i check for the package from week 12 onwards, does it include ultrasound? Dr Tham's rates seems really reasonable! And from what i am reading, he's a really kind-hearted doctor that thinks for the patient!

I am actually still deciding between him and Dr Joycelyn Wong. Dr Wong no longer offers package and her rates seem to keep increase (very xiong like that and no certainty). I have booked an appointment to see Dr Tham in my 13th week, hope all turns out well..

Anyone can share whether it is better to opt for 1-bedder or 2-bedder? My friend was saying that 1-bedder would be more private and can rest better because no visitors from your room-mate. Any comments?

Hi mummies

My 2nd n 3rd was delivered by Dr Tham at KKH. Very gd doctor. Recently I have been suffering from heavy menses n bad cramps. Instead of making appt to c him at TMC, I went back to KKH. I have a bit of regret. Long wait just to c a normal specialist. Another long wait for scanning date, then another long wait for another appt date. I was thinking - TOUCH WOOD!! - But if i ve something wrong with my womb, with all the waiting time, isitn't a bit too late?? Feel like going back to Dr Tham at TMC though its out of the way for me.

May I ask the mummies here, on the average do u ve to wait long during each appt? I waited 2 hrs at KKH before it was my turn n I was early for my appt but I was told it was the norm at KKH. Also I wonder, do I ve to wait very long for a appointment date to c Dr Tham? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Hi jessa12

Waiting time to see Dr Ben Tham should not exceed an hour with appointment.

Appointment dates will depend on how packed his schd is but he can fit you in sooner if yours is an urgent case. As you know, he's a really good and kind soul.

@ missus BL
Hello! How is baby Charlotte?! I saw your pictures on the blog! She's so adorable!

@beanie
He's had a patient who is 48years old and pregnant, no worries

@ Jessa
The waiting time depends on
1) If he has a delivery
2) if he has a delivery & there were many patients waiting before that as the queue gets longer other than that, it's very smooth & fast

@SNU
Yes there are different charges for walk-ins on Saturday but if you have an appointment it should be fine
We hardly see new cases on Saturday, and gynae cases unless emergency

hope this clears all your doubts

I am with Dr Ben too... Agreed that he is a very kind and gentle gynea and I feel very at ease at him. So far, I did not wait more than 45 minutes to see him. The only time I had to wait 45 minutes was because he had to attend to a delivery.

Thank you eysl n Nina for yr replies. Will be going back to him cos m diagnosied with Endometrisis yesterday n the gyne jus slot me for ops on 22 aug without giving me time to think n digest the bad news! If I ve to go ops, I rather trust myself with Dr Tham who had delivered my 2 sons in KKH than a complete random stranger gyne!

Dr Tham delivered my gal in Mar 2012. I've seen 2 other gynaes before him & I'm so very glad that I found him as he's super gentle when I mean super gentle he's reali very gentle (u know how those nurses or some other gynae poke u, u'll usuali feel pain but he's so gentle u dun even tell he has done the work. He's also very caring.

Overall, you will not regret having him as yr gynae.

Hi

Dr Tham delivered my gal in aug 2011. B4 him I have seen 3 other gynaes for Pap smear and to confirm my pregnancy. He is really the best of them all. He is patient, soft spoken and caring. I felt very safe under his care. His nurse is also very bubbly and cute. I love them all. Will certainly go back yo him when I have my second child.

My sister's 3 kids are all delivered by him. My first daughter too and now i'm in my 28 weeks of number 2, still going back to see him. My best friend's 3 pregnancies all handled by him as well as a few other friends. Two nurses friends of mine who worked in KKH gave thumbs up for him. From KKH to TMC, over a span of 11 years Dr. Tham has a consistent good reputation and kind bubbly disposition.
Very patient and funny all the times, he made going to the gynae a happy thing to look forward to. haha...

he has many patients too so sometimes the wait to see him will be around half an hour plus... the longest i had waited is about 1.5 hour as he has a delivery to do.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a good gynae in TMC.

Thumbs up for Dr Tham. I switched from my previous gynae to him and never looked back.
He is patient and assuring and never make you feel rushed even though he has many patients.

With prior appointment, I rarely have to wait more than 30 mins unless he has delivery. (With my previous gynae I often have to wait for 1 hour even with appointment not to mention the hefty fees.)

Dr Tham is a true professional and caring doctor.

Everyone singing raises of Dr. Tham, and I am no exception!
He is my gynae when I delivered my girl in 2011. No regrets in making him my gynae.. super gentle, and he is really so nice that I felt so comfortable during my delivery, like he is my long-time best fren.
We chatted happily while he was stitching me up (without me even knowing!) and I actually miss visiting him after my delivery.. haha.

I had quite a difficult birth because baby was overdue, refused to descend (actually she had cord round her neck), and I did not fully dilate after being induced.
I went for natural birth when I could only dilate to 9.5cm.. and even so, Dr Tham almost wanted to send me in for emergency c-sect while I asked him to let me try pushing again.
And guessed what, cos’ of my persistency and Dr Tham’s encouragement and patience, I had a natural birth for my girl after a long labour..
I believed if it is some other impatient gynae, they might have pushed me in to the operating theatre!

His waiting time is not long.. usually around 30 mins. He is not particular about pictures and photos.. I have at least 1 photo per visit, and sometimes I have 2-3 without me requesting.. as long as it shows a good catch of the baby, he’ll print out for me 
And I even had 3D scan done! Really interesting.. now my girl is already 2, if I have #2, I’ll most prob go back to him. Only consideration is that TMC’s bill is relatively high.. I paid 3K cash plus 3K medisave for my 3D2N natural with epi birth back in 2011.
