P1 Registration 2018: Changes + Important Dates to Know
It’s that time of the year again – P1 Registration! Here’s our handy guide to all the new changes in 2018, and important dates to take note of.
As parents, we’re often excited as our children approach important milestones. In terms of their education, nothing is more thrilling – yet worrying – than the P1 Registration Exercise (for children entering primary school in 2019). We want to make sure we do everything in our power to ensure our child starts off their educational journey on the right foot. There are changes to the P1 Registration Exercise this year, but don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with this handy guide.

Changes to the 2018 P1 Registration Exercise
Starting from 2018, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has introduced two major changes to the P1 Registration process. The good news? These two introductions promise to streamline the P1 Registration process further.
1. Replacing Manual Balloting with Centralised Computerised Balloting
If the number of applicants exceed the number of vacancies during any phase, a balloting process will take place. In the past, parents would have to personally attend manual balloting sessions at the school of their choice. However, from 2018, balloting will now take place centrally at MOE HQ.
This process ensures that balloting is done fairly. Even better for parents, this means that they won’t have to be physically present at the school for the process. Phew, one less day of leave to apply for!

2. Introduction of SMS Notification
In addition to the letter that parents will receive at the end of each registration phase, MOE is introducing an SMS notification system. This will allow parents to receive the results of their child’s application on the day of the results.
This SMS notification system will inform parents of their child’s registration outcome, including their balloting results, as soon as the information is available. We’re just thankful there’s no more checking the letter box every single day.

The entire P1 Registration process can often be confusing, especially for first-timers. Here is a quick guide from MOE on the important phases, eligibility guidelines, and dates during the registration period.

Note: If your child does not have a school place after Phase 2C Supplementary, you can request MOE to facilitate your child’s placement to a school which still has vacancies.

Registration Procedures
Each child can register at only one school at any one time. If a child registers at more than one school, they may lose their place in the school of choice.

PHASE 2A(1)

REGISTRATION AT PRIMARY SCHOOLRegistration is conducted at the primary school that you wish your child to be admitted into. The hours of registration are from 8am to 11am and from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on each scheduled registration day. Parents are to submit the registration form (available at the school during registration) and required documents at the school of choice. Alternatively, parents can authorise a person to register their child on their behalf. An original letter of authorisation is required from the parents. Singapore Citizens will be given absolute priority over PRs when balloting is necessary in a specific phase. Citizens and PRs will continue to be eligible for the same phases, and all applicants will be admitted if the total number of applications in any phase does not exceed the number of vacancies. However, if the number of applications exceeds the number of vacancies in a specific phase, Singaporeans will be admitted first ahead of PRs, before home-school distance is considered. |
PHASE 2C

ONLINE REGISTRATIONThe Primary One Internet System (P1-IS) serves as a channel to facilitate the registration of children during Phase 2C and Phase 2C Supplementary. Parents who register online will need to produce the original of each required documents to the school the child is successfully registered when requested by the school or upon reporting to the school. The online registration periods are:

Extra: Helpful Information for P1 Registration 2018
The P1 vacancies for each school has been released for 2018. Parents may refer to Primary Schools Vacancies by Phases for information on vacancies for each school.
After making your application, you may also refer to Primary Schools that Require Balloting to check if your school of choice has made the list. This list is updated at the end of each registration phase.
Parents will be notified of their registration outcome on the date of result announcement, through both SMS notification and postal mail. If you don’t receive your registration outcome by the end of result announcement day, contact the school directly the next working day to check on the results.
