Giving Birth in Singapore: How to Choose the Right Maternity Package (and What It Costs in 2026)

Pregnant? Congratulations! It may still be early days, but before long, you’ll be thinking about where to give birth, and which hospital maternity package to choose. Between baby names and bump photos, one big question tends to surface quickly: Where should I give birth, and how much is this going to cost us?

In Singapore, delivery can range from about $4,000 in a public hospital to over $16,000 in a private suite, depending on your choices. But here’s the thing: the maternity package price is rarely the final bill.

Read on to find out what you’re really paying for, what to expect across hospitals, and how to choose a birth experience that fits both your lifestyle and your budget.

Maternity Package Costs: What’s Included, What Isn’t

While the delivery costs indicated here are accurate at the time of publishing, they are not all-inclusive.

For a more precise projection of your actual delivery cost, be sure to factor in:

  • Obgyn fees
  • Paediatrician fees
  • Neonatal-related charges
  • Incidentals, items, and procedures not included in the delivery package

Your final bill will vary depending on clinical requirements, doctor’s fees, the actual length of your stay, and consumables utilised.

Maternity Package: Public vs Private. What’s Your Priority?

Before comparing hospitals, it helps to get clear on what matters most to you in choosing your maternity package.

Public Hospitals

Best for: Budget-conscious mums, or those prioritising medical care over frills

  • Lower costs, especially with subsidies
  • Option for subsidised or private care
  • You may not get a fixed obstetrician throughout
  • Fewer “hotel-style” comforts

Ideal if you’re comfortable with a more structured, no-frills experience.

Private Hospitals

Best for: Comfort, continuity, and a more personalised experience

  • Choose your own obstetrician
  • More privacy (single rooms, partner stays)
  • Smoother, more flexible experience overall
  • Higher out-of-pocket costs

Ideal if you value a consistent doctor and a more comfortable recovery environment.

Hospital Maternity Package: Which Is Right for You?

Image: Depositphotos

Choosing where to give birth depends on several key factors:

  • Does your obgyn deliver there?
  • Is it close to home in case you need to get there quickly?
  • Is it easily accessible, with ample parking?
  • Are there facilities for high-risk pregnancies?
  • Is breastfeeding actively supported?
  • Does it offer water birth (if you’re considering one)?
  • Are doulas welcome?
  • Can you take photos and videos during birth?

Final Thoughts on Choosing a Maternity Package

At the end of the day, there’s no single “best” hospital, only what feels right for you. Whether you prioritise budget, comfort, or continuity with your doctor, the goal is the same: to feel safe, supported, and ready to meet your baby. Because ultimately, you’re not just choosing a hospital maternity package; you’re choosing your birth experience.

All fees stated are estimates provided by hospitals and their websites, and refer to normal delivery unless otherwise specified. For updated fee benchmarks, visit the Ministry of Health website. Prices may be subject to GST. Optional perks may be chargeable and subject to change.
