March School Holiday Activities for Kids in Singapore (2015)

Congratulations! You (and the kids) have made it through the first school term of the year. That’s 10 whole weeks! You’re probably looking forward to the first school holiday of the year — the March holidays — as well as a break from routine, early waking, and uniforms. What to do then? Go on The Great Egg-Venture

A hundred giant eggs have been painted by local students and artists selected though a design competition. These will be scattered around the Sentosa Harbourfront precinct as part of the Giant Egg Hunt where people can participate to win attractive prizes. Come check out these giant Easter eggs (which measure 1.8 metres by 1 metre) at the local egg-hibition and take part in the biggest egg hunt in Singapore. There’ll also be Easter Fringe Activities with promotions and events for the Easter weekend.

Be a Kiddy-preneur

Tease out the little entrepreneur in your child at Sentosa Kidz Flea. For the fourth year in a row, this flea market by kids, for kids, comes back in time for the school holidays so that children aged seven to 12 years can have a taste of running their own business. Book a stall — if one is still available –- and sell new or pre-loved toys, books, accessories, handicrafts, etc. Or just come, shop and have fun watching performances. Sentosa Islanders and POLW (Port of Lost Wonder) members get to enjoy special prices.

Be a Cool Chemist

KidsSTOP! at Science Centre Singapore is holding a Cool Chemistry workshop for children aged four to eight years. Through demonstrations, experiments and hands-on activities, children will learn about the importance of chemistry to a doctor, an engineer and a chef. They will get to experiment with solids, liquids and gases. Last but not least, they will also make their own soap!

Discover Singapore’s Water Story

Singapore is in constant quest for a diversified and sustainable supply of water. Go on an Ideas Voyage

To celebrate Singapore’s 50th birthday, the Singapore Art Museum is holding a ticketed exhibition titled ‘Imaginarium: A Voyage of Big Ideas’. Imaginarium is an annual event in its fifth year. This year, the interactive artworks and hands-on activities are inspired by the crescent moon on the Singapore flag. Parents and children will embark on a journey of discovery as SAM curator Rachel Ng introduces the artworks. Suitable for families with children aged seven to 15 years old.

Learn about Drama & Design

With Peter Rabbit & Where’s Wally? themes, Stage for Kids is hosting dramatic speech and theatrics sessions (in the mornings) and art master appreciation sessions (in the afternoons). Morning campers will learn through play-acting, dramatisation, poetry, fun and games, crafts, story-time, magic time, movement and dance and outdoor activities. Afternoon campers will learn about the design of places, items and people, in colors, shapes, in using various type of art styles and mediums. Each camp includes snacks and lunch. Suitable for children aged three to eight years.

Meet a Monster!

Gardens by the Bay is holding a Children’s Festival this month titled March Monster Mash. You can enjoy puppet shows, craft activities, comedic ballet, workshops, a movie screening, a monster parade and more. Your child can come dressed up as a monster and join in the fun. While workshops for organising a monster-themed party and making a monster costume are chargeable and require pre-registration, the festival itself is included in the Gardens’ admission charge.

Get Close to Creepy Crawlies

The Bugs and Slugs workshop will bring your children get up close and personal with insects, snails and slugs which are common residents of the SIngapore Botanic Gardens. They will learn fun facts such as what these creatures eat and why they are important to us. The talk will be followed by outdoor activities. It will also include hands-on activities where children will learn to make their own shield bug crafts and potted plants. Suitable for children from K1 to P6.

Get Animated

iExperience is conducting a series of iCreate Workshops which are specially designed to allow children to explore, innovate and create animated content. In these two-hour workshops, children will learn about character creation and story development during the process of creating animated content. This workshop will provide children between seven and 12 years old with hands-on experience to think creatively and independently. Pre-registration is required.

Every year, migratory birds visit Singapore from October up to May. They can be spotted in places such as wetland reserves. It is an exciting chance for budding birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts to learn about different species present. Registration opens one week before the tour. Limited to 20 people.

Local talents performing include Kit Chan, Olivia Ong, Jack & Rai, Matthew and the Mandarins, Broadway Beng and Suhaimi Yusof. You can also enjoy performances by Catholic High School, MacPherson Primary School and Kebun Baru CC’s Elvis Presley Fan Club. There’ll also be fringe activities such as retro food stalls, game stalls and a bouncy castle. Perfect fun for the whole family, we think!

Go Potty!

At Goodman Ceramic Studio kids can attend a ‘Trial Throwing for Kids’ (for seven to 15 year olds) session and work with a potter’s wheel to create art out of clay. Younger ones may prefer to try ‘Pottery for Kids’, a fun and interactive programme designed for kids between five and 12 years old. Here they’ll learn how to mould animals in either fantasy, cartoon or realistic modes.

Explore Girl Power through Coding

Learn about basic programming concepts, develop crazy ideas, and build apps together! If you have a daughter aged ten to 15 years, sign her up for First Code Academy’s Girls Can Code AppJamming event, which aims to encourage and inspire teen girls to try out coding. This one-day workshop will be led by Michelle Sun, who used to be a Growth Hacker at a Silicon Valley startup Buffer. All participants will have to bring their own laptop and charger to the workshop. No prior programming experience is needed.
