Ocean Fest at the S.E.A. Aquarium in RWS Sentosa this June School Holiday 2018

It’s an eco-friendly season at the S.E.A. Aquarium this June School Holiday, with Ocean Fest happening from now till 24 June 2018

World Oceans Day is happening on 8 June 2018 and in celebration, the S.E.A. Aquarium has launched Ocean Fest, a month-long eco-festival that aims to help raise awareness for ocean conservation. One of the most current topics on ocean conservation that you’ve recently seen in the news is probably the prevalence of single-use plastics in Singapore. Single-use plastics are things such as plastic bags, straws, coffee stirrers, water bottles and so on.

Up to 32 per cent of the 78 million tons of plastic packaging produced annually flows into our oceans – the same as pouring one garbage truck of plastic into the ocean every minute! Consequently, by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans! (Source) So it’s especially relevant that the S.E.A. Aquarium has organised Ocean Fest at this time.

We visited last weekend and had fun browsing (and buying) at the S.E.A. Aquarium’s very first eco-market. The kids enjoyed going through educational challenges and learning more about ocean conservation as we made our way through the aquarium. In conclusion, it’s a great weekend outing where kids can have lots of fun while learning about being eco-friendly, and how they can help our friends in the oceans. Here’s what you can do:

1. Visit the S.E.A. Aquarium’s Very First Ocean Eco-Market

This eco-market is the first at RWS, and organised in partnership with Terra SG. Looking for eco-friendly lifestyle products to use? Find them here! In addition to metal straws, we also saw music boxes made of wood from protected forests, organic snacks, upcycled LED lamps, microplastic-free beauty products, and more!

When 10am – 7pm, weekends only
Where Open air walkway between Maritime Experiential Museum and S.E.A. Aquarium
Entry Free, no admission tickets required

2. Play Games at Eco Carnival Booths to Redeem a Prize

Pick up a ‘Take The Ocean Challenge” card at a game booth, play a game, and answer a simple question to get a stamp. Collect  stamps at all three booths located throughout the aquarium, and get a gift. We won’t tell you what it is because we don’t want to spoil the surprise. But it’s definitely something the kids can use!

3. Solve Marine Crimes at Ocean Lab

As a result of ocean pollution, marine animals such as sea turtles and sharks have been killed. At this interactive zone, kids can become crime scene investigators and solve the murders of marine creature. They’ll be encouraged to review evidence such as plastic trash found in the victims’ stomachs to find out what killed them.

4. Watch the Interactive Underwater Show “Harmony’s Message”

Harmony is an avid conservationist who aims to maintain peace and harmony within our oceans. if the kids are feeling tired after walking around the aquarium, take a seat and enjoy this all-singing, all-splashing show. It’ll delight young audiences and put a smile on everyone’s face!

When 1.30pm & 3.30pm on weekends only
Where Open Ocean Gallery

5. Attend Green Workshops

It’s great to host families and seeing the lovely children learning about sustainability, upcycling and ocean conservation works. Cheerios and we look forward to more participants across the June holidays 😄😄 #climateactionsg

7. Marvel at the “Life in Plastic” installation
