Twins Babies SG

That's interesting, Mine was both head down around week 32 and it became one up and one down around week 34. I always sleep sideways because whenever i sleep face up i will feel breathless because baby pressing on the nerves or organs. During my pregnancy, i only keep worrying that my babies will be underweight and have to stay in NICU. So during pregnancy, i keep eating food high in protein and I have constantly have the urge to drink ice milo, ribenna and 100+ (ice/cold). I also eat durian to boost the babies weight. Don't know is it because of these food and drinks, my babies are born 2.8 and 2.9kg at week 36. I gained a total of 20kg and most of the weight gain are in the third trimester. So do not worry if you lose weight in the first trimester, it will go up in 2nd and 3rd trimester.

Wow!! 20kg. I really hope that my weight gain of 8kg are my babies. Heheh. I ate oatmeal tt was advise by a friend who experienced underweight babies. After she ate those oats, babies gained within weeks and just nice. I hope it works for me. Heheh.. I won't sleep on my back, it hurts but I'll exercise similar to what shown in the pic.

Tinky, which weeks did you delivered your Babies?

Hi Sharifah, my edd was 17 February 2013 (coincidence same date as you hehe), but since it's twin pregnancy my gynae say it's early usually , I delivered at 34 weeks with c sect , also same as mommy outliers my water bag start leaking , doc put me on drip to avoid contraction and avoid going into labour but eventually we were worried that leaking water bag can easily allow the infections to pass to baby . Not to take any further risk to both babies health we went for c sect. The drip which they put me on to stop contraction was very painful and cause problem with my breathing , very high pulse rate and a terrible headache . Nurse kept on changing in both hands to avoid hand become numb , Just went on to tolerate for my babies ,but all the pain vanished the moment I saw my cute little babies . They were 2.2kg at birth and their pediatrician advise us they needed to stay in NICU for a week . Thanks to God , my babies had well developed lungs and breathing established as what doc told us so just were kept until they gained 2.5 kg weight. The nurses were so much caring , I was helped in wheelchair to see my babies and feed them . During my pregnancy , for sleeping I got a recliner chair which was so comforting as I could not sleep in any position in my bed . Anyone with sleep problem can give it a try. I was told by a friend and gynae that walnut and almond is very good for baby brain development , I ate oats and cereal with nuts topped with fresh fruits . I felt that
The real journey begins after birth as caring for twins is whole lot different than with one baby, I read a lot on net during pregnancy as how to manage feeding, sleep pattern etc. the nurse advise me to feed both baby together or else no time to relax for us , now my babies at 9 months have started playing together, and it's so amazing to see them interact with each other together.

Bsparkle, thanks for sharing!
I'm looking forward to countdown to another 12 weeks I hope to see them!

btw which hospital did u delivered at?

Thanks God and All praises be to God. Thank you for sharing Besparkle. Your strength has brought tears to my eyes. I see determination and so much hopes that willed you through all those pain. I feel so much love. They are blessed with a mother like you.

This is my 1st pregnancy and eventhough I am fighting my birthplan strongly for natural vaginal birth for Twins, if ever those medical condition arises without knowing (similar to yours), I will do the same. One must not give up to try going natural if their condition are well and one must not ignore to what they are unable. I've seen my friends going through 2nd pregnancy after the 1st c section (and sadly it was elective c section because they feel fear of natural birth) and now they are trying their best to go VBAC for their 2nd baby. Most are unsuccessful because on how the first experience had risk their body that has increased complications to their 2nd pregnancy.

As for serious medical reason like what you went through has avoid any unnecessary c section because you need to go through it. I hope making known to mom to be here about gentle c section will help them pull through in the operation room. Because what gentle c section does is, your babies will straight away place on you while doctor clean you. How beautiful is that. Like what you said that everything vanished when you look at your cute babies. :)

Shared/Advise by a Doula as a reminder to us when our doctors tell us bad news about our babies;

"Part of the responsibility of a Dr is to advise and prepare their patients of the best and worst case scenarios. This is so that the patients do not put blame on the care provider, it has happened before when we take it for granted that pple will research and fully know all the risks of their medical conditions, do the necessary to ensure their health and well being, but unfortunately they do not bother to.
Even in a normal pregnancy, the pregnant mums do not bother to do enough to prepare themselves for labour and birth, much less those who have complications. Therefore I would think that your care provider is acting in the best interests of him/herself first, and secondly in your interests."

In my opinion, this is a good reminder that we must not be despair when our doctors tells us something that will sadden our hearts and worries us entirely. (Example: Terminate your baby because there is a hole in your baby's heart, your baby has down syndrome, your baby scan looks weird, your baby is too big and you can't make it through natural baby, terminate baby before you miscarriage.) :'( Those are the fews I've heard from friends who had their tears rolling their cheek. My father in law shared me about his friend's experience of having 3 times abortion because doctors suggestion him to terminate his babies due to down syndrome. When his wife 4th pregnancy, doctor told him the same thing but this time he decided to keep his precious. When his baby is born, his son has no marks of down syndrome at all. This is a good example that we musnt fall for all of doctor's advise. They are not god. Human being just like us. At the end, we make our own decision and make a wise 1.

May mom to be here have a blessing pregnancy and protected by God. :) Ameen..

Hi , I delivered at gleneagles, my gynae was dr. Foong ( the most amazing friendly and well mannered person), as I also had same experience as you in KK before this pregnancy, it was my first time and when I went for scan the nurse said cannot detect heartbeat, my heart was sinking and I asked her to check just one more time( as I could see something flickering very very tiny ),before she ask me to go for abortion, but I received a blunt reply "who is the doctor, you or me ? We know our job better. It's very common here she said, but I said it's not for me , it is a daily job for you but for me it's my life , my very first child and a piece of my own self so how can it be common for me?
Again , it doesn't mean I am against the hospital , it's just luck that I had to meet that person but I have friends and sis in law deliver there , so no offence.

Hi, I just had my scan and found out that I'm expecting twins. Really worried if I can manage them.....

Hi Zdubib!! Congratulations and welcome to this group. Awww.. don't be worried. You should be happy! Always keep a positive note that you are blessed with twins because God knows you can manage them. God will never give us something that we can't handle. Have faith my dear. Do read our old thread and hopefully you will gain strength and knowledge. :)

Thanks for sharing Sis. I always believe different people experience differently in KKH. Yeay, I know what you meant by no offence because I do too have family members who are supportive of KKH. The difference between me and them is that they are private patient with singleton baby and mine as subsidies patient with twins pregnancy. Surprisingly not many here are going NUH except for me, hehe. So it's good that we are able to share. In fact, I badly wanting to switch hospital. I was with Khoo Teck Puat (which had a good service but no facilities for twins), currently with KKH (had sad experience) and upcoming will be NUH in Nov. Seems like I am exploring in diff hosp. I had too. I am not afraid to seek opinions and find the right doctor for me.

I had sad experience with KKH which I had not share it here because currently I am keeping my babies in my prayers and will share with the mom to be here once I feel secure with my final decision on my babies birth hospital. The experiences I shared earlier are from my good friends with singleton baby. It's very important to feel comfy and secure. :)

No. It's the same as my first, except that ms is worse. I only thought maybe it's different for each pregnancy.

do you experience anything different before you found out you conceived twins?

Hi there jellipop :) I experienced intense back pain on my left bottom body for days and had hard time breathing every night for weeks. I assumed I was having my menstruation (normally wasn't so intense) and about my breathing, doctor said that my lungs are clear so that was strange. The blessing was, I dreamt of my twins a couple of times before my 1st scanning and my heart always moved to watch twins on YouTube. Hehe.

Woww! What a blessing to even dream of them before your 1st scan!

I still have back pain now on my lower bottom and initially I was very very sleepy and have hard breathing at night. Now is much better but I am having aches everywhere even before the tummy shows... like my shoulder has been giving me a hard time these few days and I can't sleep well at night..

Yeay, hehehe. I even dream of having contraction and the feeling was like my waterbag gona bomb. Oh dear, i woke up checking if I was ok. Hhaha!! So uncomfortable right the pain. I invest so many pillowsss and I have pillows everywhere during my sleep. So you should invest on pillows too or you can take hubby's pillows, joking haha.. Take care of your back bone - always sit straight. Dont sleep on your back. Sleep sideways. I stopped sleeping on my back from 12weeks onwards. Because once your weight gets heavier, you need all those good backbone to support your weight. i just checked and I weighted from 61kg during 1st trimester to 65kg @20weeks to 68kg @22weeks and now 71kg @24weeks!! Gained 10kg!!

Positive note; The aches is getting your body prepared for twins growth so its all worth it. Get your hubby to give you smooth nice massage to ease those aches. Not so hard massage. take care sis!

Just a short share for today.

I had a really bad heartburn during my 1st trimester till the 1st week of 2nd trimester. As in my situation, what caused me those heartburn was I ate spicy food and food that are mixed with any kind of chilli or onions so I avoid those food. Otherwise, I had to throw up those chilli, acid from my stomach and really it hurts. Other advise was given to me was to ask doctor for medication. My friend who worked as a nurse and who just given birth to her precious advised me to take these medicine that we can ask from our gynae and they are - Antacid or Ranitidine.

What is heartburn?
Heartburn is an uncomfortable warm and burning sensation in the chest, usually just behind the sternum (breastbone) that typically comes in waves. The pain may start in the chest area and make its way up to the neck, throat and jaw. The pain usually gets worse when the patient lies down or bends over, and is more common immediately after eating.

The condition is medically known as pyrosis or acid indigestion.

Take care MTB. <3

Hi ladies, I am expecting twins. are there any exp twins mummy here? I would like to know how to handle twins, or how u all planning to handle the twins. Need some tips :)

I found out i'm expecting twins yesterday.. I'm 10.5 weeks and my doctor has ordered me to do my scans for D.S.
It's weird because i have done my ultra scans twice (first time by another doctor, second time by the same doctor) and we had never spotted a twin.

Hi Sharifah, I also had heartburn once during 2nd trimester. I didn't know it's heartburn because I never had one before. So i went to google here and there and realize it might be heartburn. So I took Gaviscon (works like antacid) which can be brought off the shelve from pharmacy or 7-11. The heartburn goes off after a short while.

Hi Wanda, welcome!! Congratulation and enjoy your twins pregnancy. We currently have 3 experienced mommies here in the thread and they are tinky, Bsparkle and outliers. :)

Welcome to the group Yuffie! ;) Congratulation!!

I opted out my scans for DS on my 12weeks. This scan is suggested for patients including singleton mommy during 1st trimester and we can actually choose to say "no". What they will do is, they will do detailed scanning to check if there is any absent nasal bone or if there is a white bright spot in the baby's heart or checking the spine, followed by blood test intake and if there is any detect of DS, they will proceed with Amnio Test. Please note that this Amnio test may cause complications to your baby and on you. Also note that this DS scans are not 100% accurate. A friend of mine took the Amnio test due to the white spot detected in her baby's heart and test was cleared of DS. During labor, her placenta stuck to her tummy. She had to go through an operation. There are cases that a patient was cleared by all the DS test but her baby born having DS. For twins, this DS test cost double the price of singleton - not cheap. Honestly, it seems another way the hospital can make money easily. Again, always stay positive and remembered that doctors are doing their duties to inform their patient of any risks that may incur (they are not god. Doing this is like covering their back if things would happen).

My reason was opting out the DS test is because I always believe that special children is for special parents. I was sad when doctor suggested to terminate their DS babies or scared us off by telling us about chances of miscarriage. My own father-in-law's friend terminated their babies thrice due to the doctor suggested to terminate their DS babies. When the forth baby was conceive, the same result with the same suggestion by their doctor BUT this time they decided not to ahead with the doctor advise. GUESS WHAT, their baby who was told that he had a DS was born normal. This happened in Singapore. So mommies, please decide wisely and think it through because every baby is created special by God.

Below is a link of Amnio test:

Hello!! I am also thinking how I am gonna handle the twins.. considered a domestic helper + confinement nanny + my mum/ MIL. Now I am considering more towards just a domestic helper + my mum/ MIL coz my mum said she can help do the cooking and stuff that confinement nannies do and the domestic helper can help with the washing/ housework etc. But I am not used to having a stranger around the house (domestic helper) but guess I have to learn to get used to it.

I don't intend to send them to infant care at this moment.. however, everything still planning.. I wonder how is everyone else's childcare arrangements??

Currently I am living with my mum till my BTO is ready in 2015 - guess she will cook for me while I take care of my twins in the future BUT i love cooking so depends. Hahaha.. I have a family of 9 siblings and I took care of my younger brothers when they were still a baby so I hope those skills I had before would help me when I have my own. Too early to say, haha! But here's what I want to achieve and that is breastfeeding twins at the same time. ;) I am not sure till when I will be a housewife. o_O Till then, I will managed everything on my own at home and hoping I will lose weight at the same time. HAHAH!! All the best mommies!

Thanks for the pics! I have been wondering how to breastfeed both at the same time :)

Wah Sharifah, I didn't know that by lying flat can really change position of bb, I though its just my silly thoughts.. haha.

Just one more thing to share, after my twins are head down since week 29, I always sleep sideway.. haha

Hehe, advise not to lay flat on our back during pregnancy but due to some cases like helping baby to turn, we will take lying on our back as a form of exercise routine but not in sleeping mode. Dangerous for our backs and bloodstream laa. Hehe. There are also other ways we can help baby to turn and that is talking to baby or on yoga ball too. I'll share a link of ways to help breech babies to turn. In case any of us has to face it. :)

I kept this website for reference if my babies are breech. I personally find this cute. Click on the link below and scroll down till you see a chart. Select the ways you like to help your breech babies to turn and they will show you in details. There is also bellydancing, talk to baby, relaxation and many more.Hehe..

Hi raining cows, I also had similar views like you of not sending my babies to infant care as twins are usually premature and sometimes low immunity so asked my mother in law and mum and domestic helper to help, just to let all the ladies know that even though a lot of planning done by us life can be very uncertain and u never know what's round the corner, my mom health not good so she left before even give birth,MIL decide to stay with us but only till delivery as she have some another important work, finally to that 'stranger' domestic helper, whom we thought is very helpful start showing her colors as she knew that mam is all depended on her , please ladies try not to engage helper if u are in a position where they know we cannot do without them, so now after tired with changing horrible helpers some even can go to threaten us with black magic on baby if their demands not met, we decide to go maid less and take care of the babies on our own , but most of you here might have parents to help , I wish all the best to all mummies here and do fill up those popular and good childcare form even before you give birth as some have long waiting lists upto 1.5years with 100 parents quing up . I gave up my job and decide to be a SAHM just to take care of my babies , I felt childcare is good option than those maids who come from unknown backgrounds. 18 months should be good time to put the babies when they have stronger immunity . At first I thought its impossible to take care of twins alone but when everyone else raise their hands away , I decided to roll up my sleeves and safeguard my babies by doing all I can for them. Good luck to all and do prepare early (from setting up nursery to buying and stocking smallest things )with everything as twins is double duty!

Thanks for the updates MTB and mommies. :)

I totally agreed with Bsparkle. We don't really want to depend on maid because we are uncomfortable having a 'stranger' at home and we felt that if we get a maid now, plus confinement nanny plus my mom, our house will be overcrowded. I'm a SAHM, so I never thought of putting my twins in infant care or any childcare center till they are much older and when I decided to go back to work.

My mom agreed to help me take care of the twins and keep insisting that we don't need to hire a confinement nanny (tell us don't waste money). She keep saying she can handle 2 kids, cook and do the house chores. When I ask her what if both of them cry and want to drink milk at the same time, then she say won't one la.. Lucky my hubby insist in getting a confinement nanny and thankfully I had a good nanny and ended with a good confinement. The last baby that my mom took care of is probably me so there are alot of things she probably don't remember how to do. And she didn't realize it is so tiring to take care of 2 simultaneously.

On the 2nd month, when the nanny left, only left me and my mom to take care of the twins, I had a lot of disagreement with her on the way of handling baby stuff. I get upset very often until one day I couldn't take it anymore that i blew my temper at everyone in the house. This probably also due to insufficient sleep. Mummies to be, please try to rest as much as you can, because you will really lack of sleep when the twins arrived.

It's good to have one more person to help you in the house so that you can take a small break in between during the day.

Hi Sharifah,

You need to have contingency plan that if breast milk doesn't come immediately after you delivered or your supply might not be suffice for 2. You need to standby infant formula milk for the twins.

It's really difficult to latch on both babies at the same time because they may have different feeding time. One may take longer time to drink, the other may drink faster. So you probably need a helper to help you carry when one is done or when one is crying while latching. I do exclusive pumping so that anyone can feed the baby. I only do latching when the baby is cranky and latching can calm them down.

Hi Wanda, welcome!! Congratulation and enjoy your twins pregnancy. We currently have 3 experienced mommies here in the thread and they are tinky, Bsparkle and
outliers

I'm slightly worried about the costs of bringing up the twins.
Anyone can share whether having twins translate the pre-natal checks and deliveries to double that of singleton pregnancies?

I'm very excited about my twins it's just so amazing that i'm having 2 babies inside me. But it also gave me twice the kind of worry. Like whether they will be able to grow properly inside me without competing for nutrients..

Thank you so much for your advise Outliers. Love the fact that you pump exclusively. I found my double suction pumps - getting it end of the year. Can't wait to share with mommies here on what I've found on good purchase. I am in the Breastfeeding Muslim Mothers Support Group on facebook and learning throughout to be fully prepared. So true that there will be the pro and con. Never say die trying, heheh. There are also mommies who are willing to donate their BM during our hard times. I am so glad n blessed to find there are kind souls out there. I'm sure we are now aware of the difficulties through ur sharing experience. Appreciate your sharing mommy.

If there is a will, there is always a way mommies. Lets us all be power MTB, hehe!! ;)

Awww... I feel you sis. I am sure everyone here feels the same. I compared prenatal bill with my gfs who have single baby and theirs are below 60 for each visit and mine above 100 each. The highest is 130 so far. Maybe because mine are all with scans and theirs aren't. Mine was once a month and can be once in 2 months so not so bad. I forward my check up dates too, heheh.. I'm subsidized patient. Are you having identical or fraternal twins? Identical twins who shared a single placenta need an extra care. I advise you to eat proper food for baby development. Eat oatmeal is good for babies development. keep talking to babies to share food. Who knows right they are actually listening, heheh. Now that I am pregnant, I eat moderately of everything including craving and healthy food. I keep this in my notes and I hope it helps;

eggs, lean meat, fish, low-fat dairy products, edamame, beans, nuts, and quinoa. A cup of low-fat Greek yogurt and a whole-wheat English muffin. Order up a yogurt smoothie on your way to work, nibble on string cheese, pour a glass of calcium-fortified orange juice, or steam some spinach with dinner. To get the most calcium out of each serving, look for foods that are also fortified with vitamin D, which boosts absorption. Red bell peppers, citrus, tomatoes, strawberries, and kiwi are all tasty sources.

Thanks for sharing and all the advice! Will discuss with the family and weigh the options. Not so sure about giving up my job at this moment as financial wise need both of us to be working.. shall check out the childcare options now too. But I wish I can be a SAHM too, I'd like all the time with my babies!!

Yes good luck to all.. I have started some preparation.... by starting to stock up mittens, booties and socks.. :p Planning the nursery is another headache now.. LOL

I'm eating roasted peanuts, salted peanuts. and fatty meat.. LOL!
Sugar crackers is my favourite snack to keep my tummy when it starts to feel wierd..
I'm extremely picky about food right now and the food cant seem to stay inside without me wanting to rush to the toilet. My diet is basically very salty and sometimes i'll have plain porridge with chinese salted pickles and salted egg and salted everything else.
Most of the time... i try to binge eat whatever i can when i don feel the nausea setting in.. when it kicks in... it's really difficult to put anything inside me.

I'm not sure what my type of twins are because the doctor never tell me whether they are identical or fraternal or whether they share the placenta etc..
From my ultra scan.. i saw 2 babies inside a sac... i think? LOL. so i think they are identical? is that how you differentiate?

Hahaha!! Watch out on eating too much salty food ya. Balance it. So Cute la you. I think your babies are boys - this is just tales that baby boy seems to have his mommy eating so much salty + spicy food too. ;) Yeay, me too. I ate alot of Macdonald breakfast and dinner when all the other food can't seem to stay inside my tummy during my first trimester. Otherwise oatmeal mixed with nestum and milk PLUS i love honeystars cereal + cut banana for breakfast. Yum Yum!

If you saw 2 babies inside a sac means identical. You have to wait for the next scan to confirm if they are sharing a single placenta - that would determine if yours are identical or not. There are cases that the separated sac could be very thin. Really depends. Nevertheless, enjoy your pregnancy ya!

Hi, I agree with you totally Sharifah, if the diet is not balanced specially in twin pregnancy then it can easily and immediately affect your blood sugar putting you into risk of having gestational diabetes . Since the two placenta is there inside you if it is fraternal twins so as they grow it affects on all your other organs including the pancreas ,the main organ regulating sugar. I too have fraternal twins ! You had an impressive diet tips in your earlier post! I used to drink spinach mix with half carrot and a little tomato blended into fresh juice everyday which gives a tangy taste and very healthy for babies! Also afternoon and morning snack with variety of fruits, and one banana everyday which help babies to gain weight also. Also talking to babies by reading storybooks if any of mommies have elder siblings is very good .
Agreed to outliers ,This is the time to pamper yourself and rest as much as you can . Soon Once those little babies
are outside you gonna most probably become like a 24 hour open shops hehehe! Somedays I even forget to tie my hair properly only when my hubby say jokingly that actually you look nice even if you don't comb your hair then I realize hehehe! Don't forget to have some quiet time together like a candle light dinner with your hubby as it will become a past history ! But then now we enjoy baby high chair dinners and that too is equally fun !

Hey, if anyone need to buy an electric Medela breast pump with tip top condition do let me know , it's Medela city style swing motion pump. very effective in those initial days when it takes time for the milk to come in , the swing motion with automatic dual speed and phase adjustment helped the breast milk to flow smoothly.

I wonder when it is appropriate for me to purchase a breast pump? I am reaching my 12th week next week! :) Not sure if it is too early to buy now...

Hi Rainingcows, i brought it when its towards the end of my 2nd trimester. I brought it during baby fair because they usually have better discount and free gifts. If you prefer to do exclusive pumping, it is better to get a dual electric pump because it saves alot of time and also please get a hands free pumping bra too, its very useful! Your hand won't be so tired from holding the bottles every time you want to pump. The last time i saw the bra at baby fair, it cost about 39+ and if you buy at any shop, it usually cost about 50+. So look out for this item at any baby fair ya.

Dear all mommies, I am experiencing a dilemma right now.. I'm seeing a private doctor but i heard that twins delivery usually has a higher risk of birth complications etc.. As such, if i were to stick on to my private doctor right now.. the cost of delivery may be much higher than if i were to go to perhaps KK. But my mom is telling me not opt for KK unless i'm going for their specialist doctors.. My main concern is that i would incur a huge hospital bill in the unfortunate event that my twins come out much earlier if i go to private hospital like Thomson of Mt Alvernia. Please advise me. Thank you.
