TTC and going for job interview

Hi ladies!

What do you all think of going for job interviews while ttc?

I think it's extremely difficult to continue working at my current workplace after a 50% paycut, hence am on the lookout for a new job.

Would you be honest and let them know you're TTC? Would you also let them know if you're pregnant during your probation (assuming you conceived before you get the job)?

Hi!

I think I won't outright share I'm ttc but if they ask i will say yes on family planning but if im pregnant I will be upfront about it.

Thanks for replying!

You mean after the first trimester, you'll inform your company regardless whether you're on probation or not?

Or you'll let them know during interview regardless of the pregnancy months?

I guess there's no need to share if only ttc-ing, but once you're pregnant it's another story. If pregnant at interview, I would be frank because you can't hide it past the medical check anyway. If pregnant on the job probably start of tri 2 would be a good time to disclose regardless of probation status, I wouldn't have a good time if I manage to save the job by hiding the pregnancy anyway...

Hmm.. Although I'm also 'pantang' about the not sharing the news before first trimester but with potential employers will share upfront regardless of months.

For current employers if possible will wait till 2nd tri but will also weigh the work situation then.

I guess that's true. Like eventually when they backtrack your EDD date they'll find out you've been dishonest.

Thanks for the feedback!

I think for some mums, it's hard to hide the belly past first trimester too! But honestly speaking I've heard of companies that reject candidates when they are honest about being pregnant during interview.

I heard from the HR in my first company that there's this candidate that fit everything perfectly and didn't expect high salary but they rejected her cos she was 2 months pregnant during time of interview. Kinda sad.

Yea.. that's why I'm also in a dilemma on whether if I should continue my job hunt or just stay put during this ttc period. Too many what ifs to consider.

Do you have a paycut? Are your superiors good to you? I read an article saying that if you do no experience paycut and your boss is generally nice, you should stay.

For my situation, it's very hard to survive on the 50% paycut. My husband is the one paying for most things now and I can't be reducing home allowance for my parent just because I gotten a paycut.

So it's very hard for me to stay on, especially when I have no confidence that my company can sustain this covid-19 if phase 2 carries on till end of the year.

Nope we didn't get a paycut and my current boss is actually really nice but the thought of looking out was before my ttc plans and more because of career advancement and a more worklife balance role. Now that we are ttc I am thinking to put a pin on the plan first cuz my current role is really flex albeit the long hours on and off.

50% paycut is really alot but I guess there's alot of things we can't really plan ahead and we won't know when we will successfully conceive or find a job so you should just go ahead with ur job search first.

Just to share I'm starting my ivf soon and I am not planning to share w my boss on reason for my HL, will just cite personal reasons.

Then I think you should stay at your current place, considering this covid-19 crisis won't be over so soon.

Yes! I'm actually on the lookout for jobs but the economy / hiring is slow too so haven't hear back yet. Fingers crossed as I've sent out more over the weekend!

Good luck on your IVF!

Yea.. likely will but I'm just sending out cvs if I come across any interesting role (not that there's many now in the market haha).

Thank you!

Hi, i think it is perfectly fine to go for interviews during TTC, i would too if i get 50% paycut!! it is hard to say when we will conceive, perhaps not in the next 1 year even after trying (at least for me..) so just change the job first. Other than paycut, how about your manager or work environment? I have a friend whom changed job and did quickly get pregnant, but there was still 9 months to learn and handover so its not that bad.
Of course once i pass first tri i will tell my manager. if they are a good manager, they will understand... some people get pregnant by accident too

Yes, I agree with that too. On the lookout for jobs now but market is slow.

Paycut is a big killer and my colleagues aren't as nice as my previous company. Furthermore my boss is only close to senior staff and they like to boss you around due to that connection with the boss, so I don't have the sense of belonging in the company too.

She's lucky to have an understanding manager! Some would extend your probation or not confirm you after hearing you're pregnant. Sad truth

I see, may i know what type of role or industry you are in?

Basically I would just mentioned that "let nature takes its own course", some company don't even bother to ask about this question (I just changed job this Dec, and I am glad no question from them regarding on my family planning). Try to look for a job where it is less stressful so that there are better chance for you, I am just started on ttc, at least... finally started to look for gynae and TCM >< Jiayou all!
