Recurrent miscarriages - Hope and Support

Hi friends, I am here to find some support, hope and advices and hoping someone is able to share their experience.

I just had my 3rd consecutive miscarriage recently. 1 back in 2021 and 2 this year. All ended in first trimester. 1st was a missed miscarriage at week 10. 2nd and 3rd ended in about week 8, both had no fetal pole. I had opted for DnC and abortion pills respectively.

I often blame myself for the first miscarriage as I was still doing some sports after finding out I was pregnant. Hence, with the 2nd and 3rd, I totally stop and rested at home throughout, I have also been consulting TCM after my 2nd miscarriage, however, the outcome still turned out the same way. sigh.

Has anyone had similar experience and how was/is your journey so far? Any advices to share? I’m 34 this year.

U and hubby might need to go through karotyping test to rule out balanced translocation issue, usually early miscarriage is due to chromosomes abnormalities

Hey!
Me too 2 miscarriages recently. The last in March ‘23. I’ve requested for a referral to kkh to get the tests done as I’m about to be 37 soon. They did a series of blood tests and karotyping too. But it seems right now results are all ok. So maybe just do them for a peace of mind? So sorry for your loss n I understand the pain!

Hi! Mine was IVF pregnancies and somehow after my first born, my body cannot sustain the pregnancies (HCG did not double). In 2021, I was pregnant with twins but their heartbeat stopped at week 9-10. Took pills for expel the fetus. I changed to Dr Tan HH subsequently and he suggested to do karyotype and some other tests but it came back normal. I did hysteroscopy and weekly acupuncture before the ET. I was prescribed baby aspirin for better blood circulation to my womb when I was pregnant until week 34. I also went to see tcm and was taking tcm medication throughout the pregnancy. Hope this helps!

FYI - just did a series of blood tests this week at KKH, cost about $950/pax after subsidized.
Cost before subsidized will be $1.4k/pax

tests done:
- parental karyotype
- HbA1c
- thyroid function
- APS
- vit D

Hello thanks for the info and congrats on your pregnancy!

Was it still Dr Tan HH that you consulted during your pregnancy?
Do you know what are the chances of OB prescribing aspirin despite normal results?
Thanks

Thank you! Yup, I was seeing him throughout my pregnancy. My result came back normal but Dr Tan asked me to take aspirin since there was no harm taking it. Just have to stop few weeks before due date in case I go into labour early. Scare will lose too much blood since aspirin will thin the blood. You can check with your OB about aspirin. Can buy off the shelves. I bought it from Watsons.

Btw, he also asked me to take vitamin D. So I took vitamin D before my ET and throughout pregnancy :)

Yea I went for my follow up and it seems everything is ok. But she did say that my lining is on the thicker side n suggested a biopsy of my lining to ensure no cancer cells. Honestly it scared me a bit now. She suggested either a D&c or manual swab but I really don’t wanna go thru another D&c again.

Hi I recently had my 2nd miscarriage. I sent my foetus for karyotyping test and the result shows that it is a trisomy 22 baby so died in first trimester. Then i consulted gynae at high risk clinic of nuh. The gynae called a series of blood test for me and came back all normal. Asked her if we should do chromosomes test on me and my hubby she said no need as trisomy 22 is the error in cell division so got nothing to do with my or my hubby chromosome. The test is now $800 each so me & husband if want to do would cost $1.6k. As I understand from your previous post that u and ur husband had done this test and found out the translocation issue, would like to seek ur opinion if I should do it? Still struggling whether to do it or not just to get a piece of mind before we try for the next.

Only way is to do ivf with PGT-SR to test ur embryo to put in the normal embryo, but be prepare that maybe end of the day may be ended up no embryo to be transferred or bfn. Ivf doesn’t guarantee success and that is the hard truth

But ya u and ur hubby can do karotyping test on ur side to rule out everything , there is no harm

Many thanks for your prompt reply and kind advice. Have you done PGT before? Did you manage to conceive naturally and deliver?

Was ur PGT successful? Why did u do PGT since u were able to conceive naturally and delivered?

Not successful, my hubby issue
Cos his sperm issue can cause miscarriage
So if natural trying have to depend on luck
So need to do PGT to sieve out chromosomal abnormalities

Hi everyone. I was referred by Dr Choolani at NUH to see a specialist in genetic testing for my recurrent miscarriage. He mentioned that the genetic testing may affect our ability to buy insurance in future. Does anyone know about this? Will it affect the insurance for our baby as well if we manage to get pregnant? Even if test results are good, can the insurer still reject our application or make exclusions in our insurance policy?

Hello! I went to Chong Poh at Blk 152 Serangoon North Ave 1 after I am pregnant. For acupuncture before pregnancy, I went to Ci Yuan TCM at blk 128 Ang Mo Kio. Also went Thong Chai (Physician Fiona) at Sengkang CC for herbs and acupuncture before pregnancy:)

I've been seeing tcm and doing acupuncture (reluctantly bcos it's painful to me, but still do it to improve my health) for almost 3 months now.. not sure if will need to do karotyping test due to the 2 m/c i had this year (both before week 8). Recently felt some pain in my ovary area even though my ovulation supposed to have passed by now...

anyone knows if the karotyping will be subsidised if we do it at NUS? and how long it might take?

I believe you have to get a referral from the public healthcare eg. polyclinic to get subsidised. I was told by the dr the results for karotyping take about 4 weeks but I got it within 2 weeks. Checked thru health hub. I guess it really depends.

Karotyping test is not subsidised. I got referral letter from polyclinic and did the test at Clinic Jade of NUH last Friday. I was told the result would take 2 to 6 weeks. I recently also did ultrasound scan during menses to check my uterus at fetal care centre of NUH and the result shows normal uterus and ovaries. This scanning fee can be fully paid by Medisave. So u can check with ur gynae whether to call for a scan.

Hi Christine. May I know how much did you pay for karyotype test? I was told there is an expensive test that can check for the entire genome, cost around $8k+.

I paid S$767 for the test and around S$59 for consultation fee so the total is around S$826. My husband was charged the same fee for the test but he wasn’t charged for consultation fee.

Thanks Christine. So that price was under subsidy? I'm under private route and NUH told me simple karyotype test would cost 2k+ for a couple. A more comprehensive test for all genetic conditions is $8k+. Wonder should I go polyclinic for the letter.

I got a referral letter from polyclinic and now under subsidised clinic (Clinic Jade) at NUH. I was told my karyotyping test is not subsidised so my bill doesn’t show the test is subsidised. So far all my tests and consultation fees were subsidised except karyotyping test.

Hi christine, may i know how long is the waiting time from the time u get referral letter to the apptment for the tests?

Hi, this $826 is for karotype test only or includes both karotype and other blood tests?

I'm now dealing with a 3rd miscarriage and thinking of going for all these tests but would like to know the cost.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with ana positive and protein s/c deficiency and go on to have a healthy baby? Can you share your experience and how was the process like for you? Thanks

And a happy new year to everyone :)
