Overseas Adoption advice

I actually got an email from the US orphanage saying that theres a child up for adoption ..and this birth mom wants a private settlement ..and that i just need to forkout bout 3.7k sgd ..but can be paid installment..process takes abt a mnth or 2..the nanny will bring the child to sg..and the child will be handed to me even before the process ends...but im not sure what paperwork i need to get from them..do i need to engage a lawyer for this ? The lawyer is suppose to liaise with the orpahanage or only once baby is in sg then i engage a lawyer for all paperworks? I hope u can advise further . Thanks.

Hi Fizah,

It sounds too good to be true. Pls don't take any decision to make payment yet, until you confirm that it is a genuine case. Check if the source of the email id is genuine and speak to some lawyers over the phone or drop them an email to seek their assistance.

The email ID of the US orphanage and the name or website of the orphanage. You may check in google if it is a genuine email from that orphanage.

Hi, like what others mentioned, do not pay in advance. I have engaged an agent so the agent provided all the documents necessary such as affidavit from the birth mum, birth cert etc.

I would suggest that you approach MSF for advice as we might not even be allowed to adopt from US.
