Hi Confused,
*big hugs*
I'm sorry to hear abt that, and I totally understand how you feel cuz firstly, I'm 26 yo too, and secondly, I went to Dr Ananda's clinic at Camden (the one above) for my 20 wk detailed scan and he detected a hole in my baby's heart, and told me 9/10 babies with DS have hole in the heart and told me my bb's risk of DS had increased.
We were worried sick, but the risk of miscarriage by taking the amnio test is higher than that of the chance of DS, so we skipped the test. What we did was to take a 3D ultrasound scan for the gynae to see the features of the bb to see if she looks like a DS baby.
BUT- it is NOT medically/scientifically proven that a 3D scan will eliminate DS risk; we did it to obtain some comfort. In the end my gynae looked thru my 3D and told me my bb looks ok.
I delivered a healthy baby weighing 3.285kg at 39 weeks on 30/4/11 despite her having a hole in the heart. She is hitting her milestones well and is an endearing girl.
Your counselor is right in saying that cervical skin thickness is ONE of the many indicators of DS. Like now, ur baby's heart is ok right? If you are really worried, you can re-consider your decision in taking the amnio. It may give you the closure that you need.
I just read this on babycenter, hope this helps to make u feel better?
