Hi mummies,

This thread is for us to find support among each other for those with low-lying placenta.

I'm one such mummy. Diagnosed when i had my #1 in 2009. Placenta moved up before week 36 and i went on to have an induced/natural delivery at week 40+3days.

Now with #2. Also having low-lying placenta. I had minor bleeding during week 24 for just 2 days and was given 1 week HL. No other episodes after that. This time round, my placenta have not moved up and is covering my cervix. I am today week 38+2days. My c-section is scheduled in 2 days time.

Hopefully, the rest of you have it better.

I just went for utran sound and doc told me i have placenta complete and i only 12w6d. I been worry and i going to see specalist on monday.

Hi yingying

Wow your gynae diagnose you at such an early stage. That's good, at least you are prepared early. Don't carry heavy things and don't walk too much.

Do share what the specialist says.

Btw i delivered already and am home now.

Take care...

I went to see specalist le.. He told me it fine and ask me not to worry as he seen any cases. He just told me the placenta will moved up by week 20. Ask me to rest more.
I seen from the ultrasound i oso see the placenta hwve moved up abit. Just pray hard everything is fine .

Hi

I'm a mummy of 2 kids, 40mths old girl & 5mths old boy.

Had low-lying placenta for both pregnancies. Fortunately, both went up about 34-38wks & gv birth naturally. Read somewhere that, to hv more rest & less sex :p

Pls do not worry too much on this. Whether gvg birth naturally or via c sect, as long as bb is safe & healthy, dats all dat matters. I was once a very worried mum as i'm scared to gv birth via c-sect. Just pray hard, hv more rest. God knows wats best for u.

Dear all mummies,

I went for today week 22 check up and found out that I have low placenta too. Was surprised to find out cause i dont have such problem with my #1. And I was worried cause it cover the cervic which is the delivery canal. My #1 is natural delivery and I hope for one for #2 too.

Doctor only advise me to wait for it to move away. Hopefully it does if not i have to do c section. Yes by the way, if i walk too often and active, will it cause low placenta too?

Thanks! Really worrying me.

dear mummies i ve spotting during my 1st trimester with our 1st baby and was given Duphaston...during one of the visit my gyne even comment that my baby wasnt stable! we were shock but my lovely hubby was there to assure me things will be fine...a few wks later in my wk 17 i found some bleeding and we went to KKH A&E to check then the doc suspect it's due to low lying placenta...we were quite curious y is it tat our gyne who scan our baby on every visit since wk5 could not tell this situation but the A&E doc could in 1 visit?? we went back to the gyne the very next day (when the clinic is open) and only then he told us it's low lying placenta..we were unhappy with this gyne for he did not do a lot of the common routine and on top of it he could not tell us earlier wat is the issue...nevertheless nw i'm taking even more care w my daily routine to play safe...and i was advise by a few mummies to sleep on the right side more...dunno if it will help... no harm trying

I had low lying placenta covering cervix, now week 34, the placenta not up yet, gynea confirmed a c section for me, haizzzz... Had contraction and bleeding at week 23, admit in KK for 15 days, that was a horrible and scary 15 days. Luckily the bleeding stopped, and I am on HL since then.

I had bad experience with my previous gynea at Thomson woman's clinic at (sengkang) compasspoint, my 20th week scan was done in Thomson, the report sent to my previous gynea stating low lying placenta issue, but the nurse called mentioned nothing, just told me everything is fine, I was not able to see the report then, the clinic will only show the report to me during my appointment was scheduled on 03 jan, before that I was not informed about the problem at all, so did not pay extra attention to this problem.

I had contraction on 24 Dec, called the clinic, the nurse told me gynea on holiday, no relief gynea for him, after a few hours, I no choice, go KK 24 hours, then KK admit me immediately. kK immediately found the low lying placenta problem, asked me for 20th week scan report, so I called the previous clinic, by then the nurse confirmed to me that the report did show low lying placenta problem, I requested to talk to the gynea, the nurse told me gynea too busy, no time to talk to me, I was lying in the hopital bed, worried for my baby. That attitude really disappointed and pissed me, since then, I switched to KK specialist.

I paid full package amount to that clinic, any idea if I can get back refund?

for me my gal now 11mth old already. when i was pregnant w with her. for the first few weeks the gynae never told me i had a placenta previa. i always had a spotting had to go a&e for check. scan and there never spotted anything. went back home. the next few days i got a fresh blood clot come.out frok.me. when to see doc again check still they say nothing. at last i was admitted and did the scan and they saw that i had a placenta previa. i stay hospital for quite long. i think i become a permanent resident there untill all.the nurse know me. mine is quite worst. bed rest also the blood will gush out untill whole bed. I had a few like that when i was.in hospital till they need to put 2 bag of blood in me. untill week 34. The blood gush out with big clot. and i had a contraction. they intend to hold on somemore bb inside me but after putting drip and pill my contraction become worsen and i want to give birth on that day also thru c section cause my gynae said if i will 34weeks and bb above 2kg i can give birth. so i delivered a bb gal at 2.2kg healthy.

Hi mummies,
I am a first time MTB and was diagnosed with low lying placenta at 12 wk. Doc informed me that 98% of such cases the placenta will move up as uterus grows in 2nd trimester. Am now 20wks, and latest scan shows placenta still low lying!
Praying very hard for it to move so that I can have normal, natural delivery. Don't want c-sect if I can help it

Hi

I had low-lying for both of my pregnancies.

Like u, I was very worried of gg thru c-sect. I googled about this thingy almost everyday & kept thinking about it. It only went up in my 38th wk for my #1. Was induced as my bb was a big one. As for my #2, it went up bout 34wks. Was induced too.

Pls do not worry as usually, it WILL go up. Nt sure what caused this though. I was just advised nt to hv sex 1st. But u might want to ask ur gynae's advice too. I would just say, it depends on ur baby & God's will. There's nothing u can do to move it up. They say, try talking to ur baby. I didnt do it though :p

Whatever it is, most imp is as long as ur baby is delivered safely! My cousin, whom just gave birth, had this too. However, it didn't went up. Therefore, she had to be c-sect at 38wks. Lucky that she was c-sect as her baby was big @ 3.6kg. (she wasnt aware). I doubt she can deliver naturally if she wanted to wait til her edd! We can only plan, but God made the decision

Pls do not worry too much ya
happy.gif
I bet it WILL go up before u deliver! Take care, eat healthy food & pray!

Hi Beezewax,
Thanks for your reassuring advice! You are right, it's all God's will, so worrying doesn't help except to give me more stress & grey hair...haha!
My gynae didn't say much about it, or restrict sex, except he kept asking if I have experienced any spotting or bleeding or pain. I have also been prescribed Duphaston to keep as stand-by to take if I do experience the above symptoms.
Last week, I have done amnio test. Now eagerly waiting for the results in 3 weeks time...
Will u be planning for child no 3?

Hi Melly,

I'm the balance 2% that placenta remained low and frequently spotting throughout the whole pregnancy. I had C-sect and my boy is 9 yo now.

Don't worry too much, else you'll be giving yourself additional stress. Enjoy the pregnancy ... just remember not to lift up or carry heavy things.

Hi aa(happy_33),
Thanks for sharing! I guess really no point worrying...What will be will be...
Wow your boy so big already! No plans for number 2?
I'll remember not to lift or carry heavy things. But am still working full time though...

Hello mummies,

I'm expecting my no. 3 now at 30 weeks...having low placenta too...and baby is breeched. It doesn't seem that the placenta have moved alot since the start of the pregnancy. I'm also very worried...I had low placenta too for my previous 2 kids but it started to move up before week 30 and I had natural deliveries. My gynae has not given any strict orders for bed rest or no sex. She only said to have as much rest as I can and not to carry my 2 older ones...The only consolation I have from her is she didn't sound as if it's that bed til I needed complete bed rest. And she mentioned I have 5 more weeks to see if the placenta moves...

Hi Melly,
Like you said, my boy is so big already, not plananing for # 2.

I worked all the way to my delivery too :) No worried ...

Hi Melly,

Thanks! Yup, 20 weeks is still early...So not to worry. Like you, I'm also praying very hard for a natural delivery.

Hi mummies, am at 16wks n had bleeding for past few days, diagnosed with low lying placenta. Doc prescribed duphaston pills n 1wk bed rest. V v worried now, as I still see fresh blood once a day.. Praying hard

Hi Melly

I'd love to hv a no 3 bt i think i'll stop at 2 :p But if God will me go hv no 3, I'll happily accept
happy.gif

Btw, i just remembered that for my #2, he was breeched too. That means, I had low-lying placenta & a breeched baby. Thank God my baby turn the very last minute before i gave birth.

U hv a good rest ya!

Hi Elvara, been staying home for e past wk, n sudd yest I experienced a gush of blood coming out, freaked out!! bt it slowly decreased aft that, only can cont to monitor. Dunno how long I can hold out...
Hmm just curious, how come some ppl w low placenta dun experience any symptoms..

Hi beezewax,
Just went for check up...placenta still in same position...Sigh!

Hi Jasmine,
I'm one of those with no symptoms, altho doc did prescribe me Duphaston just in case. Also have no restrictions for exercise or sex. It must be very worrying to see blood everyday...Rest well!

Praying hard for my placenta to move. I'm 24weks now...At first I thought gaining weight would help. I'm now 8kg heavier but placenta still stubbornily in place! Haiz...

Hi mummies!

I was diagnosed with placenta previa complete during my detailed scan last week. Was spotting on off since week 12 but was not told anything about it. Was given Duphaston & asked to take it easy by gynae.

Sometimes, when spotting became heavier, I rushed to KKH. Already been 3x for injections. Finally last week was admitted to Tmc during my detailed scan when I told them I was still spotting.

Gynae told me it's unlikely to move (looking at the scan as it's a complete previa). Most likely gotta C-sect. Was very
worried, scared , stress as my 1st pregnancy was a smooth journey.

After discharge, I'm now home on bed rest. Its coming to a week now and the spotting /bleeding has stop. I guess bed rest really helps.

My concern is if the bb comes out prematurely, the cost for nicu is going to be very high. Read from smh some mummies spend 20-50k depending how early bb is delivered.

My gynae is from Tmc but I'm really worried the about the cost for nicu. Some ppl advised switching to KKH.

May I know any mummies here continue with current private gynae or going to KKH? I've quit my job so I can rest till delivery. I still have a long way to go.

Coming here seeing the mummies staying strong & positive is so encouraging !

Hi Berlin,
Why not go to polyclinic and get a referral to kkh? You can see two gyneas at the same time as the charges under kkh subsidized is quite minimized. You can decide later where to deliver as the pregnancy progresses.

Thanks, skies(mecy)!

Definitely will consider that option. I've called kkh to find out. The only thing abt being a subsidized patient is that can't choose gynae.
I'm praying that bb can stay inside me as long as possible closer to full term. As long as bb comes out has no survival problem & is healthy, I'm really thankful... irregardless it's normal delivery or c-sect.

Jia yu together, mummies!

Hi Berlin, my gynae fr tmc mentioned that some ppl will spot all e way till delivery. I also taken 3jabs n on bed rest for 3 wks.. The bleeding/spotting stopped for 2wks then started again today! I dunno wat else wat I can do, except cont to rest n take another jab tml...

Now I'm really worried abt e costs if bb's premature.. Bt if I switch gynae now fr tmc to kkh, I feel reali insecure, scared e new gynae won't understand my situation.

Reali praying hard bb can stay inside me as long as possible, I'm only 5mths now

Hi Skies, I can juz walk into poly clinic n get referral to kkh? Will need to start considering that option..

Anyone had experience going to kkh o&g 24hr clinic during night emergency? I saw online that's e place to go during emergency, any advice pls?

Hi Jas,
Yes. You can just go to the polyclinic and said that u r pregnant. Ask for a referral to kkh and they will give u an appointment, probably in 2 to 4 weeks' time. So good to go early. Once u get the referral to kkh, just go for the first appointment. You can decide whether u want to got for subsequent appointments at kkh. Important thing is to have ur name under the subsidized list so that if any thing happens (touch wood), u can just be admitted and have u under subsidized patient.

My friend went to the 24hr clinic at kkh cos she was spotting and having tightness in her abdomen. Was given a jab to relax her womb.

Hi jas,

Think we're ard the same time. How many weeks r u now? I'm in week 21. Still a long way to go...
Like what skies said, it's definitely good to have 2options in hand when time comes to deliver bb. Same like u, the only thing I'm not very comfortable is seeing different doctor each time all the way till delivery. I'll be more stressful if its a trainee doctor as I'm already a high risk patient.
If I wanna choose my own gynae at KKH, then it'll not fall under the subsidized category (which defeats the purpose).
I truly understand how u r feeling. A lot ppl also say their placenta 'move up' at the later stage. Even though my gynae told me mine is quite unlikely to move up as it's a complete previa, I'm still praying for miracle that it will
happy.gif

Usually I'll juz wait till e following morning when e gynae clinic opens, bt at least gd to noe that there's an emergency dept we can visit if reali no choice.
At least I can choose nt go for subsequent appt at kkh bt still b under subsidized list.

I'm only 19wks, there is no certain way to noe whether my bleeding is reali due to low placenta, which makes it all e more frustrating. Only thg I can do now is to go for weekly jab to relax e womb. I tried extending e duration to 2wks bt seems to b too long cz spotting will start again.

Hi jas
I only found out my condition during 20week detailed scan.
Gynae's advice is to take the bed rest seriously. I've to put everything on hold. I even feel guilty Im not spending much time my 18months old toddler.
I guess it's normal to be worried. But let's try to stay strong & rest more!
Happy mother's day to all mommies!

Hi Skies, do I need to visit a polyclinic with antenatal service, or any polyclinic will do? The polyclinic at my place does not have antenatal service, not sure if I need to make appts with other polyclinics instead...

Just had detailed scan at wk21, placenta near cervix opening. Despite being home on bed rest, bleeding is still continuing on off. Gynae fr tmc has given me the option of switching to kkh, in case of heavy bleeding need blood transfusion, it is easier for public hospital to access blood bank.

Moms,

I delivered in 2010. When I was two 1.5 months pregnant, I stood/walked for about 30mins in one stretch and over the next day, I experienced menstrual like flow (blood really gushed out in the toilet) such that I thought have miscarried for sure. Turned out that it was due to a low lying placenta and the 30mins standing walking resulted in friction that dislodged part of the placenta. So a low-lying placenta, its essential to avoid walking/standing for long stretch. I believe sitting down is ok as it does not cause friction but try to avoid excessive walking if possible and eventually by 2nd, most low lying placenta will resolve itself.

Take care, moms with low-lying placenta and as long as avoid walking too much, you are in control. All the best and have a safe delivery.

Hi Jas, don't think polyclinics have antenatal services. When u visit the polyclinic, they will refer u to kkh for subsequent check ups.

Do take care.

Hi everyone,
Just a quick update. Went to gynae last fri (my 24th week) & placenta moved very slightly only, and not enough for natural birth.
No bleeding or activity restriction. Doc seems to think it'll move up in the 3rd trimester...and I'm still praying very hard...

Hi mummies, just to share my experience with all of u. I had low lying placenta and found out at my 20th weeks detailed scan. I thought it would not be so serious and would move up. My doctor advised me to wait till 34 weeks. Until around 32 weeks, my placenta is still low and block the cervix. There is high chance of c section.

I thought it won't be so serious and continue to work and walk around. Around 34 weeks plus, i got sudden massive bleeding at home in the mid night. And I rushed to mount Alvenia feeling so panick. The nurse checked my contraction and baby heart beat. Gynae came at around 8am in the morning and said its best I gave birth at 37 weeks. I was around 35 weeks soon. Then he want me to be hospitalized till I reached 37 weeks. I was so upset that I can't go home. I was asked to stay in hospital for around 10 days. Lucky I did not discharged. 1 day before 37 weeks, I had sudden massive bleeding and it's like tap water gushing non stop. Lucky I was in hospital and the nurses were there to assist. Gynae came and I delivered soon after. I just delivered on the 31st may which is 3 weeks earlier. So all mummies, please have enough rest and don't carry heavy things. I was carrying lab top to work and walk around all the time due to job nature.

The stay in the hospital is not fun and I really bed rest till delivery. And the bill will be shocking as well!

Take care mummies!!

Hi mummies, wanna share some good news. At my 32week scan, my gynae has confirmed my placenta moved up so now I am going for normal delivery. I am very relieved & happy.
Also I started swimming (abt 10 laps) & prenatal yoga 2-3x/wk (mostly stretching) since the middle of 2nd trimester. Not sure if that helps but it certainly eases the aching in the joints & reduces my water retention.
Keep the faith all the mummies out there!
