IVF at NUH--feedback pls

Need some advise.
Contemplating to call Sharon (PC nurse), becos when I went toilet just now, saw dark red on tissue. I felt is alot. But only 2 drop staining of brown on the pad.
I scare that prof will say stop all support.

Hi all,

I am seeing Prof Wong on come Sat morning for my next FET. I think I need to prepare some questions to ask. Any suggestions?
Looking forward to my FET.
Goodgrl-how are you? When will be your FET?

Blue, for your ease of mind, why not just call Sharon.
If prof really ask you to stop all support, I think you can choose to continue till your next bt as you have all medication as your support.

Coolcool, you may want to ask him the support you can get during 2ww. Since it's not fresh, the protocol before transfer it's not an issue. But if he's not changing the protocol, don't worry. Trust him he knows best for you.

Su- thank. I went to toilet last hour & the bleed is like very minimal.
Think I observe & see how.
I saw yr post & felt more relieve. Thank you

Su - Yes i was! Ok now I remember there was a malay couple with baby on the way out of the lift. You were in blue I think?? Hahaha..we always bump into each other but never know until we are online! Hehehe...

Blue - just call. at least u will have a peace of mind.

Andreannie, yeah, always see each other but never say hi..

I'm afraid I got the wrong person

so you always go for your jab at Nuh?
Mine was done at gp. Will go there when I've got appt with prof.

Hi Andreanie. Do you mind sharing what type of support jab you're currently given at NUH? And for how long do you have to take those jabs? I'm currently being given Hydroxyprogesterone, twice a week. And according to Sharon, it's for the whole first trimester! And how do we count the start of our pregnancy as I'm not sure how far along I am into this pregnancy. I welcome advice from all ladies.

Soulasluym, congrats on your success

when was your bt?
Usually during bt, you are considered 4wks pg.
First scan usually 2wks after bt n by then you will be arond 6wks. At times, you may be only 5wks plus depending on the size of your foetus.
Support will be in terms of injection.

Andreannie, I will be there end of sept. This time if I see you I try n call you. Hope I've got the guts

Thank you Su

. My bt was on last Friday, 09/09. I've read that in natural pregnancy, we count it from the first day of our last menses. But I couldn't find anything on how to calculate IVF pregnancies. Hehe! So I guess, I'm on my 5th week now? Did you get support injections twice a week as well? I'm just wondering if that's a normal procedure for IVF pregnancies or because I have low progesterone...

Oh, I was given Dydrogesterone pills as well, also a form of progesterone support I think, to be taken twice daily. So, that plus the jabs really makes me wonder if I'm low on progesterone...

soulasylum - My jabs are the same as yours too, and yes it will take the whole of the first trimester until your 12th week. Mine is twice a week too, I always come to NUH on every Monday and Thursday for my jab. I guess you should be in your 5th week now since your BT was done last Friday.

I'm also on Duphaston pills, twice a day.
Its a normal protocol for ivf successful pregnancies, so that we have additional progesterone help to support our baby unlike natural pregnancies where their body naturally produce progesterone as their pregnancy progresses. I am in my 10th week now, so 2 more weeks of jabs and pills.

Su - which date are you gng to NUH? My last jab will be on 29 September, which will be my birthday haha... my hospital leave will end on 26th Sept and I will start work on 27th September. But already planned to take leave on my bday, just nice cos it will be the last jab too!

Oh... Thank you Andreanie!
happy.gif
Glad to know that it's normal and not something wrong with my hormones. My injections are on Tuesdays and Fridays. Too bad we couldn't bump into each other... It's nice that you only have 2 more weeks to go
happy.gif
! I don't quite fancy butt jabs.... Hehe... So, 7 more weeks, 14 more injections for me then.... Sigh.... Is your tummy showing already?

Andreannie, hey, I'm going to nuh on the 29th too.. *wink wink* 3pm for my baby..
We are really fated to meet this time round
happy.gif

so you've been on long hl? Wow, that's good.
Must rest. I also felt glad when I did not have to do any injection. But after awhile, find something missing. Missed being jab in the butt.

Blue, hope everything goes well and you are confirmed BFP tmr! I can imagine you must be very 'gan cheong' to find out. Waiting to catch your baby dust!! ;)

My result had double to 104.5. Dr say is ok had double, so next week scan.
I felt still abit low. Hopefully is becos late implantation ba.

Blue, I'm so happy for you
happy.gif

so have you started work? If you are going to start soon, remember not to stress yourself.
I put my work second priority.

Blue - I do my jabs at 3rd floor too, Emerald & Ruby clinic.
So u going back to work soon? I asked for hospital leave till the end of first trimester. Rest thoroughly cos gng back and forth for the jabs can be tiring too. And first trimester, body seems to change every other day. I'm so sleepy most of the time, but can't nap so resting at home. This week I am down with a bad headache. I have 4 more jabs to go.

Su- hospitalization leave extended till 23/9. Seeing prof on 22/9.
Likely I will extend if seen sac, just wan to make sure k see heartbeat then decide when to start work.
But if I'm not wrong, next week is just 5th week, if scan, able to see sac or not?

Blue - I extend my HL on every checkup that I go too and my last check up at 9 weeks I told gynae i want to rest till first trim is over. My gynae says it's quite true that we Ivf patients shld rest fully if possible in the first trim. He asked me first if my HR is ok, I already got someone to cover me so nothing to worry abt. Now that I'm pregnant, work is secondary.

5 weeks heartbeat normally cannot be detected. Normally heartbeat starts from 6 weeks onwards.
happy.gif

Wow you two good le can extent HL like that.

My girl's heartbeat only detected at week 7.
But based on sac size, Prof will know whether it's good pregnancy or not.

Eh no one want the duphaston?

Su, I private message you my Gmail account for FB.
Did u receive it?

dear all, i've not been on ivf, but have been contemplating on it since i have tried for 1.5yrs since my last miscarriage and no news after trying clomid and puregon. May i ask:
1 )costs of the process (i read somewhere that we can use medisave and govt subisidy?)
2 ) How long does it take to start the ivf cycle? I have not done any tests before..
3 ) Do i need to get any referral letter?
Hope someone can shed some light and advice.. thanks!

Jeannie,

cost of ivf depends on the amount of medication you take.
It can start from 8k to more.
I had tried 3 times n the cost ranges frm 8plus k to almost 9plus for my last attempt.
You can medisave. First attempt, 6k, then 5k n 4k.so only 3 times using medisve.
There's govt grant of 3k for 3 tries too.
The cycle takes abt 1 1/2 mth to abt 2 mth.

You need to do some blood test.
If you are doing at Nuh, di make an appt.
I consulted prof wong. He's the head of ivf.
I know there's other ladies here consulted another
dr there, if not wrong dr chew.

Once you've done your blood test, you can proceed to do ivf
the following menses of yours provided Nuh can slot you in. If not you may have to wait a month or two.

Hi Jeanie, for IVF procedure, the charges are the same for both private and subsidised patients. Only difference is the charges for all the tests done before IVF, oral medication during IVF and follow up appointments after you are pregnant are subsidised for subsidised patients. For private patients, you can choose the doctor. But for subsidised patients, you can't choose the doctor. So the on duty doctor will treat you. To be a subsidised patient, you need to get the refer letter from polyclinic. For private patient, you just call and make appointment. I think you need to mention who you want to see.

Hi coolcool, what is your personal advice here? Should i just call and make an appt directly or by referral? What is the estimated diff in costs as a private or subsidized patients? my husband is pretty concerned with the costs as we have spent quite a lot on tcm, puregon etc... million thanks!

Jeannie, if you have not use your medisave on ivf or iui treatment, together with the grant, you've got 9k. So if you may not even have to top up anything.'my first cycle my bill was abt 8.5k so I did not even have to pay anything.
I only had to pay the blood test prior to the ivf. My 2nd cycle I paid less than 1k n 3rd attemp slightly more than 2k.

I'm not too sure of subsidized rate coz i don't think there's many ivf dr in Nuh.

Hi Jeanie, my personal advice is to choose the IVF specialist first then go directly to him. That means private. The difference is not a lot. About 150-200 for tests and consultations (before IVF procedure). For IVF procedure, only got subsidised of 12$ for medicine. For my IVF procedure, it cost 10 k (before deducting anything). I was a subsidised patient. You can compare with Su's and mine. Su is private. Mine is even more.

Cool n Jeannie,
actually when I go to Nuh, I did not know there's subsidized rate. I went directly to make appt with prof.
I went for his talk so got to know him frm there.

Hi Su and cool, did both of you go to prof wong or dr stephen chew? i called up just now and dr stephen chew has appt avail on sat... wondering if i should just go for it...

Really appreciate all the prompt advice.. i am quite demoralised by now actually... hope ivf will be my solution..

Jeannie, i was under prof wong. He does not talk alot but will ans to your query. Some do not like him coz feels he is too quiet. I'm never under dr Stephen chew so no comment
happy.gif

Jeanie - I am with Dr Stephen Chew for my Ivf procedure. I'm very comfortable around him, he loves to joke around so u don't feel nervous etc. I'm still seeing him now that I'm preggy. He will explain everything in detail if u ask him questions, even if u don't ask him he will tell u. He is a very fuss free doctor. He is Prof PC Wong's right hand man. They work together.

I tried Ivf only once and I'm preggy on my first try. Spend I think ard $10000. So I paid the extra $1k in cash during my embryo transfer. I am a private patient. I knew Dr Stephen Chew cos I went for NUH Ivf talk before I made an Appt with him.
happy.gif

Jeannie, I have seen both of them. I feel more relax with Dr Chew. May be because of their personality. Prof Wong is quiet type while Dr Chew chits chat with you. And his (Dr Chew's) V scans are not painful. Other than that i don't know.. may b other sisters who are under Dr Chew can tell you more.
