In need of support

Hello everyone. I just went to the doctor earlier today and found out that I have endometriosis and would have to undergo an operation if I would want to conceive. Feel so upset right now and not sure what to do. Anyone been through it before? What would I have to lookout for? Or is there anything I must do? So afraid to go for the op.

I'm just turning 24 this year. Hubby and I want to try for a baby soon.

Please, any advise would help.

Hi Illya, I am sorry to hear about the endometriosis. The good thing is that you are very young and age is on your side! I find that the greatest fear in life actually, is the fear of not knowing. How about listing down all your worries and concerns, and go through them with a consultant or the doctor, or a counselor? Different doctors and hospitals adopt slightly different practices, but do tell the doctor and nurses that your are concerned. I know, when we receive the news it is total shock and BLANK! So, collect your thoughts after you have time to digest, think of what worries you - the operation? risk? recovery time? mc from work? finances? etc. And then find out the answers one by one. Then you will feel better. It is not an emergency procedure, right? So you can plan and think and perhaps even seek a second opinion, if you don't feel too good with the first doctor. All the best!

Hi illya16, I'm a fellow endo sufferer, discovered the condition when I was in my early 20s too. There are many ways to "treat" endo (although endo is not fully treatable)- both surgical and non-surgical options. I've also had to undergo keyhole surgery for endo myself. There's an endo thread in this forum too, to provide support :)

Hi illya16

I have endo too. I've had it since in my late teens.
Now mine is stage 4.
I've had 2 laparascopy before.
Is your surgery also a laparascopy?
If yes, don't worry, the incisions are rather small.

And yes, as the other mentioned, the cysts may come back.
My first op was in 2000 or 2001.
Second one was in 2009.
And now I have a cyst again but I'm doing IVF.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for it but we have to manage it ourselves.
For mine, it causes terrible menses cramps so I will eat painkiller etc. I'll avoid cold drink near the period etc.
