How to calculate when is my EDD

I went for my 2nd check up today and i got pregnancy kit resulted 'positive'... Yeah!

Gynae said I'm 5 weeks pregnant now but I puzzled, he said is from the last menses that day start counting. I really wonder if it's true. Then when is my EDD? Pregnancy is normally 36-40 weeks right? Start counting from which day?

First day of your last period + 7 days – 3 months = due date,hope it help.

Your gynae will 'formally' date your fetal age and EDD around 8th week.

Yes, your gyane is right. Of course you did not concieve on the first day of your last menses but pregnancy is counted as 40 weeks when in actual fact it is 9 plus months only.
So your due date is 40 weeks from the first day of your last menses. But you may deliver antime form 38 weeks onwards.
