Dear mothers,

Need some adivice here. My 1 yr old baby boy had just visited the PD. The PD showed concern that my son is not babbling. Not producing sound like baba dada mama nana etc. And hence would like him to go for a hearing test. However, my son got to take some sleeping medicine to conduct the test. My concern here is that when he was born, due to some infection on his leg, he had to be on anti-biotic for 2 mths. Now that he is 1 yr old, i really dont wish him to take any other medicine unneccessarily.

My son understands everything we say. When we ask him where is the ball, door, papa, mama, ah gong, bird bird etc, he is able to point to everything. I can say he is a v fast learner. But just he would only produce sounds like.. AHhhhh Ahhhhh... Eeeeeee... I dont usually use baby language to him. Wonder if that is the reason why he doesnt babble.

Would mothers give me some advise and share with me on you son's speaking milestone?

I don't think your son has problem hearing. If he does, he won't respond to your queries at all when you ask him where is the ball etc, isn't it? There are some children who are slower in speech development. I have a friend whose child was still not talking at the age of 2.5 year old. Like your son, she would understand everything my friend said but insisted on pointing to things in response. My friend was advised to bring her to see a speech therapist several months ago. Not sure how she is doing now.

Thanks for your reply.... I am just hoping he is a slow speaker. Recently we keep talking to him with baby language and he starts to say aum.. praying hard...

Hi Tingting1000,

It is important that he can understand you :)

My son only speak when he was 2 years 3 months. And its suddenly in a sentence..we were so happy
You will too..one day :)
But I think you should keep talking in proper language rather than baby language..since he is a fast learner, he should record all of them and will speak out what he used to hear and understand
