This is created to..
  • To learn how eczema can be healed through nutrition/natural ways – WITHOUT STEROID.
  • To share own experience(s) in dealing with eczema..
  • To provide support for everyone who is in the journey of healing eczema..
  • And.. anything related to eczema or skin problems..

Let me begin..

My History..
I didn't have any eczema history in my family and no childhood eczema as well. BUT eczema started to slowly creep into my life when I went overseas to study. It continued to get worse when I started working. I would get eczema on the limbs, the back and then the face!

A Decade of Steroid-life..
During these eczema years, I had tried many kinds of steroids – the topical, the oral and the jab. The jab was the worst as it caused me to suffer cellulitis (not cellulite!) due to bacterial infection of the skin. I also suffered the side-effects of steroids – irregular heartbeat, yeast infection and suppressed immune system.

FINALLY!
Fast forward a decade of eczema agony.. I realized taking these drugs weren't only treating the eczema but also loading my system with poison. So, I stopped seeing the dermatologist and started to research into alternative ways to clear the mess inside-out! I detoxed and tried many creams/lotions, vege diets and supplements. The only thing that worked for me was Vit. C, high-dose. When I use Vit. C in increased amount, my eczema started to get better and eventually cleared up. I realized how important Vit. C was and continued to take my Vit. C (in lower dosage) as maintenance since we can’t get enough from food source alone.

Hello & Goodbye!
Well, when I get lazy taking care of my body by not fueling it with enough nutrients especially vit. C, it make a comeback! When I get a cut, it slowly turned into eczema. Again, when I do VC-treatment, my eczema slowly recovers. The eczema comes and goes.. And I know that Vit. C is always my remedy since the complete healing of my chronic eczema. Once I put VC into my routine again, eczema doesn’t return. To me, VC is important because of its many beneficial properties like antioxidant, antiviral, aids in healing, etc..

Now, I’m not saying this works for everyone but it works for me. I believe in healing through good nutrition (vitamins & minerals) – either by food or supplements (when food is lack of). As we all know, Vit. C is important to our body. When the body is lacking of Vit. C, it starts to show negative symptoms. Eczema is one of the symptoms. Since everyone has unique biochemistry, the causes of eczema would also be different to everyone.

So, here’s my eczema story with VC.. I’m sure there are some had their eczema healed/relief through other natural ways.. Hope that you will share your stories here.. Because of your stories, someone might be on the road of recovery! :)

For anyone who would like to ask more question about my journey, you may ask away and I will try to help based on my experience..

thanks for sharing! i have no prior history of eczema but i got it this yr! I was sadden and continue to feel down & inferior by it as it develops at obvious area ie my face!

I'm using Manuka Honey cream from Dr.Organics right now to treat the eczema. I had previously tried physiogel and steroid cream from doctor, it doesnt really help much. I've did some research online, and there's a lady who had the most similar problem as me, she gave her solution of manuka honey from Dr.Organics. It does improves my situtation, and now my eczema seems to have a certain degree of control, it doesnt seems very obvious already.

I am trying out 1 thing too, but not really sure does it helps. If it really helps too, will post again. :)

just to share..

my boy developed eczema few months after birth. rash and itch and all.
and for some reason, the area where the eczema developed, ringworm followed.
only in feb this year, a pharmacist highlighted that my boy seems to be suffering from some forms of allergy when we were visiting Australia (the eczema worsen when we were there).
lucky us, the first food (cow's milk + all dairy products) we eliminated seems to be the cause!

the ringworm is gone, the rash subsides. Took us four months to clear his skin finally.

maybe u should evaluate if there is any food in your diet that is giving you the skin problem..

Hi there, just to share. Those with eczema problems, maybe you wanna try taking chlorophyll powder? It has many benefits (eg. healing, cleanses blood, improves immunity, etc) and improves rashes and eczema is one of them. Suitable for all ages even toddlers too. Can even add into bathing water or apply directly on affect area. Can pm me if you wanna knw more. ;)

My hubby use pure goat milk soap. It's really improve a lot...even my nephew of 2yrs old starts using it...
As pure goat milk soap doesn't not contain sulphate so it does not dry up the skin and cause itch.

HI All,

Just wanna share my experience in dealing with my toddler's eczema issue:

I have trying utmost best to avoid using steroidal creams on her, but, recently, she experience the worse bout of outbreak.. From her eyes area to her back, then her elbows & thighs + back of her legs. It was really bad.. Some of the areas were made worse by her continuous scratching. I was so devastated.

Anyway, had to put her back on steroid treatments, and also on anti-histamine. But, given that this is the worse outbreak ever, I was naturally very anxious.. I read up all that I could on eczema and saw several articles that mentioned that Colostrum can be a natural way to 'clean up' our internal system.

So, I order the Colostrum powder for my girl, and has been feeding her for about 2 weeks now. So far so good, no outbreaks except for the occasional redness. I'm also giving her Fish oil for Omega 3 & 6 as it was also mentioned that lack of Omega 3 + 6 could lead to weakened skin... I guess I will also start to load her with Vit C supplements although she takes quite alot of fruits and since it's Cherry season now, I'm gonna let her eat more cherries as a natural way of Vit C inputs.

Other than the Supplements, I apply the following on my girl:
1st layer- Desowen Lotion, contains steroid but this is very mild, can also be used ard the eye area. I try to avoid this if her flareups are not bad.
2nd layer- Cetaphil Intensive Cream/ VMV Hypoallergenics Grandma Minie's Know it Oil/ VMV Boo-boo Balm (whichever cream I apply will depends if we're indoors or outdoors. If indoor, I will normally give her Cetaphil as it's not so oily and sticky. If indoor with Aircon on, I'll put the oil or the balm)

Hope the above helps any others who's looking around for suggestions. :)

Hi

What brand of fish oil you give ur daughter?

Hi joctk,

I'm giving my girl a combination of fish oil. Usually, I'll give her the Nordic Natural Complete Omega 3,6,9. But, this is the adult version, just that I give her half dose of what is recommended. I realise that the contents of the Adult & Children version of the supplements r the same except for the dosage.

On days that we are out and not home early, then I'll give her the Smartfish Omega Supplement as it comes in sachet form, so, it's convenient to bring it around and administer to her. :)

Hi
I'm using soap nut to wash my baby clothing. One smh member is selling it. You may want to find out more.

I would like share my son's ezcema conditions with everyone here.
He had it since birth. Steroids n antibiotic cream were used for a few years till about 2 years back when I decided to stop relying on these harmful creams. From then on, I have tried many remedies like dermatological products eg cetaphil cream, chinese physician, light vinegar, metal detoxification, some other cream product claiming for help in eczema... my son's skin was still red n patchy.
Recently I have started to use emu oil which I purchased oversea via online (not from smh bulk purchase). My son has been using it for about 2 months. Conditions improved n no longer red n patchy. However he still scratches it. I'll still continue with this emu oil to see if it helps to improve further or at least maintain the current skin conditions. At the same time, I'm going to start him on probiotic.

Hi mummies,
My 2 girls have eczema since infant age.
Their eczema started off on their cheeks.
Brought the elder one to skin specialist and they mentioned that eczema will move down the body as they grow.
True enough, the eczema flares on the "folds" at the back of knee and arms.
I tried so many products which even includes
Horse oil from Hokkaido
Emu oil from Australia
Crocodile oil from Malaysia
Lucas paw paw, California babies, four cows, physiogel etc etc.. (Too many to be named)
Recently, I chanced upon this organic virgin coconut oil. I bought it to try. (since I've not tried virgin coconut oil before and I always bought products which includes calendula/camomile/aloe Vera)
I'm super amazed that this 100% natural organic Virginia coconut oil did wonders. My girl's eczema redness went off the next day and she stops scratching.
So when she stops scratching, the "wound" will be able to heal and not get inflammed again!
For those who are interested to try, (as this is so far the most Inexpensive product) it's only $17.70 for 50ml spray bottle.
It's SG based and their website is:
http://www.coconurture.com/index.php?aff_id=12

i read on some health mag that extra virgin coconut oil helps with ezcema, just apply directly.
Yes yes I must agree!!!
I just bought a bottle 1 month back and tried. It works! *phew*
And so far for this 1 month, my 6+ year old girl eczema didn't flare!!
Am so excited to share this with all mummies here

Hi Mummykian,

Looks promising. I think will buy and try one soon. :) Hopefully, it's a keeper product. :)

Hi :

May I know regarding the " ezcema flare relief oil ", did you all apply it on the skin during the flare time or have to maintain it even during non-flare time?

Hi mc_yw
So far so good for me.. Keeping fingers crossed.
I actually never knew organic virgin coconut oil is good cos I've been using products with camomile, aloe Vera but these are just soothing properties. Coconut oil is easily absorb by the skin(that's what I heard) and the oil which I bought doesn't smell strong coconut oil. It's has a mild smell like peppermint.

Hi lyr3290
I apply it daily even to maintain it. Cos the skin will be dry and it will itch for my girl. So if it itch, she will scratch and then skin gets inflammed.
So do apply it daily to maintain it :)

Hi hi all,

I'm currently using the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil from VMV Hypoallergenics.
http://www.vmvhypoallergenics.com/grandma-minnie-s-oils-well-nurturing-do-it-oil.html

I feel like trying the Eczema Flare Relief Oil by Coconurture, but, there's no further information on their source of VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil). They said that it's organic, but, from what source?

But, the mummy in me tells me to just order a bottle and try, and then see how. Really pondering whether to buy and try or not.

Hi lye3290, u ordered online? I tried calling their hotline as I wanna find out more before ordering, but, unfortunately, no one answered.

Hi yc_mw

From the bottle, it states the organic virgin coconut oil is from Philippines.
Hope this helps :)

Hope this organic virgin coconut oil can help your babies.
Cos as a mother myself with severe eczema girls, it's just so sad to see them itch badly, scratch and bleed.
Let's hope this oil is a keeper. Cos I'm using it for 1mth+ so thought of sharing. + there are raves about virgin coconut oil being good. :)

Just to add my comment..
My boy is using the same product..

Can apply when u notice few red spot started to spread.. It will go off within 1-2 times . Can see result immediately .. It's 100% organic and I love the smell .. Very refreshing ..

However , if the red spots already developed to small patches, it's hardly to go away with just vco .. Gotta use other organic product to clear it.

I would say , it's a good product for mild eczema . Even for insects bite. Should give it a try ..

Hi ladies, I am new to the thread.. My girl also affected by it.. Using cetaphil soap for her.. But recently it started get worse, particularly in folds.. From this thread I notice many mommies say virgin coconut oil does wonders to the problem.. But I want to know better.. First to start what's the difference between normal and virgin oil?

Hi Mathi
I just did a search at yahoo.
It quotes
Virgin and pure coconut oil are the same. Although if its labeled virgin you can be sure that it has no chemical process.Virgin coconut oil is the best for your skin,it absorbs quickly and helps skin retain its suppleness.

Does the coconut oil leave a smell behind on the skin? Is it hard to go off?
Hi Kairos
The organic virgin coconut oil which I used from coconuture does not have strong coconut smell.
It smells alittle like mild peppermint.
I'm not sure about the other brands :)

Hi, Im a mommy of a boy suffering of eczema for 3 months now.. I have been in a look out of alternatives to steroids and a good moisturiser.. I have tried so many and just last week I tried this virgin oil from coconurture.. At first I didnt see much difference eventhough it is easy to apply and absorbed well.. But after a while, I noticed that my boy's skin adapted to it very well esp with aircon on.. His skin very smooth and no red patches.. Normally, he needs steroid every 3 days. Hopefully, this will be like this in a long run. I hope I finally found the alternative to steroid.. So far, Im very satisfied with this product and it is worth to try as it is cheaper and delivery is super fast..

Hi all,

Just a little update. I have bought my girl to see this TCM physician located at Yishun. I find his diagnosis quite spot-on. Currently on the 2nd day of the powered medicine. So far seems ok. I observe less scratching, and perhaps because of the reduced scratching, the problem areas seem less sore.

Hopefully, can really help to 'mend' the little one's body. :)

As for external application, I'm still using the VMV Hypoallergenic Coconut Oil & using balm on the sore areas. Also using Pure Aloe Vera gel on alternately on the sore areas. When my girl is in school, the teachers will be using Cetaphil Intensive on her whole body, mainly after bath, and during nappy/ toilet time. :)

Food wise, the Physician has said that no eggs, chicken, pumpkin, yam, fruits of all kinds, biscuits, chocolates, yakult. Trying my best to abstain her from the long ban list... But, fruits quite difficult..

Wow! What else to eat? Seems very difficult to follow..

Hi Pinkshadow,

Yea, very difficult. But then, just trying to avoid as much as possible. Other than the TCM, I'm also bringing my girl for blood test next week. I really busy tahan her recent bad flare-up liao. Must have an answer (hopefully) to what's causing her such agony.

hi all this is my first post here. though have signed up for donkey years.. my daughter is also suffering from eczema. her eyes area, neck and fold on her arms and legs. been looking for a way to help her, and i saw this post. Am going to try the organic virgin coconut oil recommended, see how it goes.

Hi Eunice,

U can also try the Dermaspray Intensive from Salcura. I find it really soothing and really helps to sooth the itch so that the little ones do not scratch (thus helps in healing).

https://www.salcuraskincare.com/product/intensive/
You can read more about the product as above link. SG sells the small bottle at $29.90, available in Watsons & Guardian. I just bought it online for the 250ml bottle, more economical. After adding in Shipping, it's bout S$70-S$75.

Someone has just recommend pure emu oil from Emuse . Can be purchased from Bedok mall. 3 days show big improvement . Probably can go chk it out

I have suffered with eczema almost all my life. Tried all sorts of creams, steroid and non-steroid. Someday are good and some are well bad to the point I don't even wanna go out. I shower using Eucerin and I cream myself with A-derma. My son also has eczema (caused by allergies) and he uses Vit E cream daily. I realaised with him, if he wears organic clothes, it does not irritate his skin so much. A really good online shop is
www.babylicious.com.sg
They get their clothes from the UK and a very reasonable in price. Free delivery with orders above $30.
I hope this info helps all of you.
