Dr HO from Mt Alvernia

starstar,

can say so cos i still go back to him for my annual checkup.
happy.gif
he helped me delivered my 1stborn nearly 2 years ago.

Tinklerain
so does Dr Ho require us to shave our pubic hair before we give birth??? if it's normal delivery.

Etelle,

well, i gave birth in late 2003, normal delivery. He did not request me to shave my pubic hair then. I'm not sure whether he requires any of u now to shave or not lor cos afterall, it's nearly 2yrs ago!! :p

Etelle,

I had delivered 4 babies by 3 different doctors, none of them ever requested me to shave, but you may be asked to do so if you need to undergo c-section, there the nurse will shave it for you.

Hi Billy
Congrats!!!! You must be real excited!!!! Did you store your bb's cord blood? If yes, which coy did u use?

Hi Mummy Bs
okie which means confirmed natural delivery dun have to then only caesearean the nurse will shave for me then no worries lah...

Thanks for the infor!!!

Hi Billy,
your wife delivered the same day as me! 24 Oct and i am also by Dr Ho. Mine is afternoon 3+pm, what abt ur wife? scully we are only next door neighbour in the labour ward.

Mummy Bs (mummy_bs)

my newborn name is regine.

Jeslyn
only 24 and you have 2 kids liaoz ah....*envy*. I am 28 this year and is dleivering my bb by Dr Ho next year Feb....

How do you find him?? Does he provide lotsa support during delivery???

etelle, ya im 24...got 2 kids liao...u only 28 still young, older than me 4yrs old only mah...
happy.gif

i find he very frdly, very good...
yes, he gives lotta support during delivery...
but want to remind u, if u don want to have a tear, u need to co-operate with him when u push, when he said gentle push, juz gentle push, don push too hard, if not u will need more stitch...

:p

krissie, heard from our thread, u gave birth le....congrats...now waiting for u to be back to share ur birth story...
gently push as in not to push with so much strength lo..

my husband and i decided to work with dr ho for our 2nd pregnancy after reading this threat and he just delivered our son 10th nov 2005. he is truely a wonderful dr. i could stand, walk, bath the following day after my C-section. my first C-section was a disaster, i didn't get out of the bed until 4th day and even then i needed 2 persons help. it was quite scary...

it is very assuring that the entire clinic is so professionally run and every procedures is so well thought out. trust me, i have seen clinics with lab test reports all over the place (not filed), medication dosage not even documented properly... can die!

plus, i was so impressed that the clinic nurse actually came to brief at my "prep room" about what to expect during my surgery. felt very important and well taken care for. the experience is entirely different from my previous delivery... like i was just another "case"

if we had met dr ho earlier, we might just have more kids...

i suppose i just wanted anyone considering using dr ho's services to know that he is quite a dr

Jeslyn
Thanks for your reply. Gentle push ha ha i also wonder how to control the push hee hee :p sounds difficult ha ha when u push u push ha ha got gentle one ah...ha ha :p yeah lor hopefully i dun need a stitch at all hee hee :p

by the way is Dr Ho pro natural w/out epidural or is he more pro epidural kinda ah????

I agree his clinic is very professionally run and their nurses are all very assuring and nice hee hee
happy.gif

etelle
im not sure whether he's pro natural w/out epidural or is he more pro epidural...

for me, both labour, i din use epidural..

ur edd is early feb or ?

take care wor~

happy.gif

Jeslyn
wow so heroic ah you never use epidural...your labour was short is it??? Mine is 11 feb..yeah thanks taking care hee hee :p I think for him by the time he drops by to visit would be when bb's head is out is it or before that he would actually comes in once in a while to check on the dilation???

etelle not heroic la...its the pain can sort of bearable....no need to use epidural to waste $...
happy.gif

can save the $ to stay @ single bedded room...

he'll come on his own timming...
happy.gif
or else, he'll call & check with the midwife on the progress....

Jeslyn
your threshold of pain very high one???? SO which means for all your babies u also no use epidural and u feel all the pain bearable? How long is ur labour leh??? Mmm come on his own timing one ah hee hee :p i c i c...thanks for the infor.

Hi Everyone,

I am new here...just wanted to add in that Dr Ho and his nurses are great! Make me smile everytime i am there..
happy.gif

Dear Mummies,
I have some questions that i hope experienced mummies can advise me. Thanks!
happy.gif

1) how does contractions actually feel like? When should i be rushing down to Mt A?

2) I read from other threads that we should ask for separate billing so as to maximise medisave claims? Baby claim under Daddy, while my bill claim under my own? But today when i check with Mt A's registration counter, they said it is the same claim amount. No difference if u ask for separate billing??? I am confused.

3) I want to breastfeed my baby immediate after birth. Do Dr Ho or the nurses at Mt A allow that?

hi Etelle,

My EDD is 17th Feb. so near to yours!
happy.gif

Is yours baby gal or boy? Have u decided to go for epidural or not? I told myself not to, but so worried about the pain!! I am so nervious and scared...
sad.gif

Hi Mum88
ha ha yeah lor ur edd so near to mine hee hee. Mine is a boi and i am opting for natural
happy.gif
We'll see how it goes hee hee cuz first time mum dun know what to expect hee hee :p

Eh for your questions i think i can only help on the 3rd one. Normally the nurses will bring baby to u to breast feed immediately to uckle on the colostrum. So it's not a matter of whether they allow or not but the nurses at Mt A will do that lor unless of course special conditions forbid lah like baby jaundice cnanot bring out of the room or what not very sure also...

mum88, dono whether isit the same for all others mothers..
my contraction pains feel like diarea pain..but v v pain de diarea pain...when u gt water coming out or u got show, go to delivery suite @ 3rd level....dr ho clinic nv give u one paper ar? tell u wat to do / when u got signs already, ve to call their clinic 1st, if after office hours, go down to hosp...
as for the medisave i tink shld b the same...i nv seperate the bills & i also nv enquired such qns b4..
i do bf my bb but not immediately after birth, after birth, nurse will clean up ur bb 1st then gynae will stitch u 1st, after everything is done sui sui, then nurse will bring ur bb to u to BF...u either BF side way or u sit up to BF, nurse will teach u wat to do...
don worry, when time comes, u'll know hw to manage...

Dear Etelle,
Maybe we end up meeting at Mt A's delivery ward! haha. mine is a gal. can intro the babies to each another. haha...

Dear Jeslyn,

thks for your advise.

oh yes.. i think Dr Ho's nurses did give me the paper. actually quite a few pieces of papers, i blur blur already. Ever since i got pregnant, everything seem to be in a daze. Very bad memory and cant focused on anything (other than my princess). now become "stupid" but a very happy mum.. haha.

I understand from the nurses that we can go down to delivery suite to check if we are in labour? Do u know will the hospital charge us for that? or they only start charging when u are really in labour and register at the front registration counter?

Jeslyn
we straight away go hospital and proceed to 3rd level. I thought we have to go first level and tell them we delivering first? then they will wheeled us up to 3rd level???

Mum88
the nurses at Dr Ho's clinic would have given you the admission letter for the staff at the hospital...just bring it along.....so when's ur next appt at Dr Ho's clinic???

mum88...i guess most mothers are the same..
before give birth i also abit lost, after birth, i still abit forgetful..
happy.gif

u can go to the delivery suite to check whether if u are in labour unless u gt any of the signs leh...
they'll only charge will admission...

Etelle, go to 1st level meh?

both my deliveries i went straight to delivery suite cos after midnite le...

then nurse/midwife checked me, got labour sign then asked my hubby go down to 1st level to register for admission...

Jeslyn
i also don't know how's the procedure. Oooh so go to 3rd level first ah? Then what do we say to them? I think i'm in labour? Hee Hee :p

Hi Etelle,
yeap, go to 3rd flr to confirm u are in labour first.that is what the nurses advise me. especially we first time mummies so blur.. dont know really in labour or not. if we go register at 1st flr, then troublesome have to unregister again.. haha..
happy.gif

haha.. yeap, u can go 3rd flr and ask for help.. i went to 3rd flr to ask the nurses there before. they are very helpful and smiling away when they see my worried face.. haha.. they told no worries, just come up and they will chk for me to confirm whether am i in labour before i register.

Hi Jeslyn,
oh dear.. that is what my friends told me too..after 9 months of being teased of being forgetful and blurness.. cant imagine being so blur for the rest of my life.. haha..

whoa.. both babies u chk in after midnight? i'snt that very stressful? hosp so quiet by then...
happy.gif

btw, how do the hosp charge? after midnite is consider a new day? or is it like hotel? after 12noon then consider new day?

mum88
Thanks. Now i wun be so blur at least after the experienced mamas' guidance. Thanks....I am still playing the waiting game with my baby ha ha 11 feb due but no sign yet hee hee :p

mum88, ya by then hosp v quiet....but when im in the delivery suite, i can hear my next door mother when giving birth rite, when baby come out i can hear the baby crying, then i abit stress, how come ppl give birth liao, i haven give birth..
hehe...i tink after 12 mn consider new day, cos the hosp bill start frm the day i enter hosp mah..

Etelle, have u given birth yet? 5 more days to your EDD.. mine is 10 more days.. scary!!!

Etelle & Jeslyn, did the nurse ask u to count the baby's kick everyday? at least 10 times per day from 9am-9pm?
I always forget to count.. lost count.. how?? oh dear! if baby is awake and kick a few times (eg 5times) within half an hour, is it consider 5 times or only 1 time?

i always so busy with wk during wkday and wake up only at very late afternoon during wkend.. always cant count properly.. i feel so guilty..
sad.gif

jeslyn, that sound stressful. best is to check in morning.. more people around.. hee hee...

btw, what type of ward did u stay in?
the hosp only provide one pack of pampers and one pack of maternity pad? any extra is chargable?

their maternity is stick type? i heard some hosp provide tie one.. i dont even know what is that.. mmm...

i didnt buy any maternity pad, cos i couldnt find any with wings.. i hope my normal pads for heavy flow will do.. what u think?

mum88
i haven't given birth leh but now like got contraction leh hee hee i also don't know leh ha ha never mind wait until hor it's obvious then hor i see wat to do hee hee :p yeah the nurses told me to count leh the movement. I also gauge one leh agar agar about the same tim baby move 10 times.... after each kick must be 15 sec away from the next kick lor.I bought those without wings one leh bo bianz leh...they said Mt A also give kotex one so i bought that leh...hee hee but not loop one is adhesive one...

hi jeslyn,
sorry.. some more questions..
u didnt use epidural.. only laughing gas? does the gas make u want to vomit? dizzy?

do u know about the side effects for the thigh injection? heard it is not much help too..

i still cant decide what type of painkiller to take...
sad.gif

For the cordblood, did u save it? or donate it?

mum88
yes, the nurse asked me to count my baby's kicking everyday till i due..
i also always lost count & i also don even remember hw many times i last counted, then i re-count again..hehe...then i always forgot to bring the paper, always kena say by the nurse...
u ve to time the kicking, after 10s later then count the next kick...if the kicking is continuos 1, wait until it stop kicking for 10s then count another next kick.
i also always never count properly, for both my pregnancies also....
don feel guilty, as long as no matter wat time u start to count the kick, by 9pm if never reach 10 kick, u must faster go to the hosp le...

i stayed in the 1 bedded room @ St raphel ward & our lady ward, both located @ 3rd storey.
the maternity pad they gave is the 1 with loop 1, but nevermind, u don ve to use string to tie, when admitted, the nurse will eventually teach u hw to use the pad, just place it on top of ur panty can le, no need to tie any string or wat...after discharge i oso use the kotex loop type, never use those stick type, only use before those left over frm my aunty..
i don tink u can use ur normal pads leh, unless u place two pads on top of each lo..cos sometimes the flow mite b v v v heavy 1...esp after delivery...
the hosp oni provide one pack of maternity pad, one pack of pampers premium diaper & one pack of johnson bb wipe, if u wan extra, its chargable..i nv request any extra thing frm hosp, only i request for red dates longan tea...its free for the 1st jug, additional jug need to be charged @ $12.i total stay there for two days, i drank two jugs.

i din use epidural, only laughing gas, the gas never make me wanna vomit, but give me one kinda feeling, those high feeling la..u no...as if taking drug lidat...
i don tink there's any effect for the thigh injection, but just for the cervic to open faster i tink, i oso dono much, i just jab lo, since nurse asked me, & also its inside the package... u cant decide wat to use ar? juz use the one in the package 1st, if really canot tahan, then bo bian, think of other type...ask nurse to give opinion...

cordblood, i din save it..i dono whether they got use it for donation anot leh, cos they nv give me sign any forms, i tink they dump it away...

mum88 & Etelle,
are u both gg to eat ur own pacenta?<-dono how to spell, chinese is tai pan

hi mum88
i be saving the cordblood have signed up with cordlife for it. Think if u dun save it they will dump it cuz currently they dun save it all. I think lah not sure on that.

Jeslyn
dun think i will eat my own placenta leh sounds disgusting ha ha ha :p so bloody ha ha imagine eating a part of you no no for me hee hee :p

Jeslyn & Etelle,

thks for explaining about the counting..

dear jeslyn,
i so happy to hear u are the same as me!! haha...me really hopeless.. one week since nurse ask me start counting, i never count to 10 times before 9pm before. tomm i am going bk to see Dr Ho.. sure get "scolding" lau.. hee hee...

sometimes the tummy move, dont know is it baby or tummy contract? hahaha.. terrible blur mummy...

oh... so our package include the jab in thigh and laughing gas.. what else is included? only epidural need to pay extra,is it?

Etelle, how r u feeling now? r u still working? or started yr maternity leave already?

how much r u paying to cordlife? how many years r u saving it? have u informed Dr Ho that u are saving the cordblood?

mum88
i am like hvaing 15 to 20 mins of contractions leh regular oes.....i also dun know if it's contractions cham leh...ha ha i am waiting for it to come on stronger before i go hospital lor...no show or water bag burst and yeah me on ML now.... I apid $1200 for cordlife and then how many years have yet to decide on that leh.....eh they said on the day bring the kit down can liaoz Dr Ho will know what to do one..

hi!

any mummies here have any experience of having a vaginal birth after ceaserean (VBAC) with Dr Ho? My first was a ceaserean cos he was breech and Dr Ho was firm in his stand that breech has to be by ceaserean. Now I'm having my secind due in Apr. Have asked him about possiblilty of VBAC but he did not give me a firm answer. He said something like have to access the situation nearer the due date as there are risks involved. But I have so many friends and heard of so many cases where mummies have VABC wihtout any problem. Wonder if he is pro-VBAC or pro-once-a-ceaser-always-a-ceaser. Really hope to avoid a c-section this time round and go the natural way. Any mummies with any experience of VBAC with Dr Ho out there?

mum88 yesterday i oso went to dr ho's clinic, went for jab(HEP B)

eat placenta for nicer skin lo..i tink..tat time newspaper got report somemore...

package oni includ those u mentioned...

Etelle, wow u save the cord ar? exp hor, but long term down the road, also advantage ...

Jeslyn, u went for HEP B? Is it true that cant inject that while breastfeeding and cant get pregnant within 3-5 mths?

did u prepare any birth plan? if yes, who should we show to (Dr Ho or the delivery ward nurses?) and when (in delivery ward)?

Do u know is inducing ok for the baby? some people say to avoid that...
