1st time pregnancy - enquiries

Hi everyone! I just did my pregnancy kit test and result is positive. I am thinking to book my 1st gynae visit, but a little confused as to when to book it. I read online that people are suggesting 7-8 weeks later so that the scan can be meaningful to hear baby’s heartbeat :) would you recommend this too?

Would like to get advice how do I know when is 7-8 weeks? Do I count from 1st day of my last period (that happened) or 1st day of the last period that didnt take place?

However as it is first pregnancy, I am also slightly worried if I should visit the gynae asap to ensure all is good with baby, as I did drink a little in December (not a lot), went to gym to do weights and went for 2 massages. Hopefully these won’t affect anything..

Lastly, anyone has reviews on Dr Candice Wang from ACJ Clinic (Mt Alvernia)? Appreciate any feedback / sharing, if she is approachable, entertains questions, easy to book appointments with her, is there long waiting time etc. Thank you so much!!

Hello, congratulations on your pregnancy! :) I'm a certified birth doula in Singapore, let me try to answer some of the questions that you had raised.

Generally, healthcare providers will count from the 1st day of your last period, and estimate your due date to be 40 weeks from then. This is an estimated due date, so the actual due date could vary by a week or two. At around 8 weeks of pregnancy, you will be able to hear baby's heartbeat, but if you're anxious about how everything is, please feel free to go ahead and book an appointment with a gynae just to ease any concerns that you might have. If you're still early in your pregnancy, most gynaes, will do a quick check and provide you with another appointment within 2 to 3 weeks to check for baby's heartbeat.

All the best for your pregnancy, and congratulations once again! :)

It’s generally recommended to book your first gynae visit around 7–8 weeks from the first day of your last period (LMP), as this is when a heartbeat can usually be detected via ultrasound. To calculate, count from the first day of your last period that happened.

Since it’s your first pregnancy and you’re a bit concerned about earlier activities, there’s no harm in scheduling an earlier visit to ease your worries.

For a great ob-gyn, I highly recommend Dr Regina at GynaeMD Clementi. She’s attentive, patient, and excellent at answering all your questions.
