Confinement w/o confinement lady after C-sect

Hi Mummies,

Appreciate your advise on this. I will be delivering no.2 via c-sect in October 2016. As I had a terrible experience with CL when I delivered no.1, i was wondering if any of you have experienced doing confinement without a CL after c-sect? I'm just worried abt the bathing and caring of bb part. Assuming we don't have anybody else to help us with caring for bb, and hubby will be back to work probably less than a week after baby's birth, I will be alone with bb.
Btw any confinement food delivery to recommend?

It could be a bit tough, but it could be done. Only in our society we have such a thing called confinement lady. You need to plan this out. For the first few days after your C-sect, you may feel some pain, so bathing the baby might be difficult - holding the baby, sitting up, standing up etc is not good for you after such a major op. So, you really need to prioritise. Some things to consider:

1. Your own comfort and wellbeing is top priority. If mommy is happy and well, everything goes. If you push yourself, everything else falls.
2. Babies are the cleanest, minus the soiled diaper. So, really, all you need is a lot of wet wipes and diapers. Forget about the bath. In the UK, babies may not be bathed for one-two weeks!
3. Forget about cleaning the house, too. Minimum on other housework like laundry etc. Perhaps a good idea to buy a robot vacumn cleaner or floor washer. Saves a lot of work and hassle!
4. Invest in good tummy binders - check with your gynae. I was told it is good for back and good for people with c-sect.
5. Have people that can be "on-call" in case you need some urgent help. Always good to know.

Actually, I only had a confinement lady for my first. A total mistake - she was even my own aunt!!... I chose to go without for the 2nd and 3rd. A lot happier. Also, I am the very hands-on kind of mommy. I would bathe and change for the baby, and fully breastfeed. Baby also sleeps with me. Leaving little for her to do other than complaining and nagging me.

If I get to choose again, I would order confinement food and then get a robot to do the cleaning.

I did my confinement without confinement lady for my #2 as my CL is not available last minute ; i got a emergency c-section then ..
However i have a indonesian fdw whom we train her on the confinement food preparation and baby care prior to my delivery so that helps; although not as "pro" as a CL but still i got my rest and it us ok

During confinement period, u also wash bb's clothing n bath bb yourself? I did that during my first confinement, end up my left hand became very weak, my friend said because of I touched water during confinement, so the "wind" goes into my hand. Now I m pregnant again, I will get CL for this round.

Hello :)

I bathed my baby and even washed dishes and hand washed baby's clothes during confinement too but nothing happened. So I guess it's up to individual's body condition.

That is up to individual and their beliefs lah.... But all these originated from ancient china, when there was no clean water or good sanitation in those days - bathing or washing clothes would mean having to goto river or well. Can be unhygienic and difficult.

I just wash baby clothes along with adult clothes. At most I soak the baby clothes if soiled, then all dump into washing machine. It is okay. Sometimes, during pregnancy or after childbirth, we get some kind of pains and aches that we never got before. that might be due to hormones, due to posture, or due to new habits. In the Western countries, the mothers are up and running the entire household 1-2 weeks after birth. I once ran into a new mom and her 3-day old baby at the zoo! because it was the older kid's school outing!

Actually without cl is OK provided u hv a routine and some help like night feelings. I had twins c sect and no cl plus I kenaf appendix broke and had to cut open again 3 weeks after. I coped with some night feeding help from my mum and hubby. I ordered confinement tingket delivery for weekdays while weekends mum cook a bit. Rather OK. Oh and I threw bb clothing into machine wash v easy.
