Azoospermia

Sorry to hear about this... What's the cause of it? I read that there are some ways to retrieve if there's a blockage... but that requires assessment by a fertility doctor. I have a friend whose husband is with this problem... unfortunately the doctor said even with ivf, chances are very low. They are moving on to adoption plans..

Unfortunately, DH (dear husband) has been diagnosed with testicular failure. he has very high FSH 67.4 IU/L, high LH 26.47 IU/L, normal testosterone 11.22 mmol/L.

Urologist said treatment will be very slim chance. we are not keen on donor sperm or adoption for now. we really wanted a biology child

Does anyone happen to have similar case and managed to have successful story and how? We are thinking of TCM

Unfortunately, I haven’t come across any successful stories. Maybe u can try tcm. I came across same situation as yours as her hubby also zero sperm found but she use donor sperm of next-in-kin and had given birth. Maybe u can check with her. Try to read her chat history too

I have similar as yours, my hubby too, we are seeing TCM too since Dec 2018, but no change in his condition yet.
we have to be strong and face this together, might go and see doctor overseas if needed

I’m having same issue and I understand how u feel.. very depressed and lost.. did you try tcm? Does it work? Hope to hear from u soon.

Hi, can I know how u resolve the issue?

Hello i know it is not easy but we have to be strong and decide what is best for our family, if we are sad , it will affect our husband too , he will feel guilty for the main course of fertility.

My husband TCM treatment did not work, so we still on going consultation with overseas doctor, i find singapore urologist is not so confident in non obstructive high fsh azoospermia case and will directly recommend donor sperm in general without being emphathatic towards affected family.

Having said that, u can try to find a reputable urologist that confident to do surgery to find the sperm, no matter how small is the chance.
But u have to financially prepare because it is not cheap and every surgery there is a risk. At least now i assume your husband sexual function is normal, but post surgery we will
Never know what’s going to happen.

My piece of advice is be positive , always remember the basic foundation of your marriage with your husband, having a child is not everything, i always felt having a loving and good husband is more important. And unfortunately we face one of the most difficult fertiltiy root cause.

Dont be too stress, remember that you are not facing this alone, a lot of couple face it too but culturally taboo to discuss it.

Hi, would like to check how are you dealing with this? My husband was also diagnosed with azoospermia with high FSH & LH & borderline low testosterone.

We are trying gonal-f injection & clomid orally. Also supplements & tcm with accupunture. Doctor told us to continue on for 4 months before checking again on the semen analysis. So far its been 1 month.

Hope to hear more from others

please update me, just starting on this journey for a month, didnt have any friend with the same problem so i start to look for forum to hear more experiences. Hope to hear positive news from you and DH, good luck!

Infertility issue is seldom discussed because of stigma and ego, i heard some couple didnt even share with parents , which i am surprised, also some to prevent more peer pressure , opt for donor sperm which is more private and confidential.

yes i heard about that, heard from a friend that her DH refused to check and always blame on the wife for not being able to get pregnant for 3 years! Thankfully my DH is willing to do the checks, thus i have to be supportive too!

Hi, my DH was also diagnosed with azoospermia with high FSH & LH and normal testosterone level.

Would like to know any successful treatment?
And recommended doctor to go to?

Hi im not sure if its the same case as my husband have borderline low testosterone. His is
FSH: 44.2 IU/L
LH: 21.24 IU/L
testosterone: 9.32 nmol/L

We are seeing urologist dr michael wong in mount elizabeth and ongoing with hormone therapy of clomid & gonal-f injection, also going to tcm, going to 2nd month now. Will do the checks only in mid january, so cant advice yet whether it is a successful treatment. Will update here again.

Stay strong most important is to be strong for our DH.

Yeah. About the same. We’ll be seeing urologist and find a tcm to go too.

Good luck to you. Hopefully you’ll be able to hear some good news.

We have seen urologist, tcm, senior fertity consultant also no use. My hubby fsh is 50 plus and testosterone is 5 plus. Pls let me know if you know if you all found a solution.

Any urologist to recommend? We had been seeing different fertility specialist in the past one year but no outcome. I think we should visit an urologist instead.

Same issue as you. But lucky my hub is quite supoortive in using donor sperm. We both feel we really want a kid. Dont need to explain to others this is from donor. Nobody will know

Hi Hopingformiracle,

My hb had borderline testosterone too! The doc gave him clomid, i bought blackmores vitamin and also cordyceps tablets for him.

He just did a tese and we have been informed there is sperm we can use for ivf!

We saw doc joe lee in nuh.

Hi everyone, my DH also has azoospermia.
FSH:19.4 (high)
ICSH: 4.11(Normal)
Testosterone: 17.39 (normal)

We are quite lost as i have visited a Gynae in Mount Elizabeth and husband was then recommended to see a urologist in Mount Elizabeth after realizing that there was no sperm in his sample. He went for an second opinion but was told straight up that we have to for for donor sperm or adoption. We are still carrying hope.

May I know if anyone can recommend a urology Specialist and also a Ivf specialist who works together in SGH or NUH that can advise us with patience and hope?
We are quite lost as to how to proceed, hope to get some direction here.

If there are still sperm dr can do extraction to draw out sperm from testicles and inject into the egg. This is ivf process. U may want to consult a ivf fertility expert, Don’t go to general gynae. One step at a time.

hi everyone, new to this forum and we were shocked too when we first received the news. there are still a lot of tests to be done, but any tips for helping DH to cope?

Hi everyone, DH just went to do sperm analysis test yesterday and found that he has terato-asthenozoospermia and severe Oligozoospermia. Does anyone know what this means? Does he need to do blood test as I see that some of you have done LH FSH test for DH? Thank you

Hi everyone. I'm Em. Last April my husband was diagnosed with non obstructive azoospermia too with high FSH (33), normal testosterone & LH, also grade 1 varicocele on both of his testicles (doesn't require surgical repair since it's mild). He took clomid for 2,5 months but still no sperm, although his fsh dropped to 26.

I am Indonesian but my husband works in Singapore and I have been a silent reader of this thread for a while. We are also looking for the best urologist in the nearby asean countries but it is such a shame that azoospermia is often underlooked because of its rarity and difficulty to treat. Also, from your stories, some doctor will suggest donor sperm right away without considering our feelings (such a shame, really :()

I've been doing a lot of research throughout our journey and I found instagram community very supportive. I have contacted azoospermiasisters from Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, US, UK, Germany (virtually almost every existing azoospermia accounts!). There are actually treatment regimes that we can still do. For example, in Malaysia, prof Zainul Rashid (an OB specializing in male infertility, an expert in azoospermia) usually gives his patients menopur injection for 4 months before doing TESE surgery and there are success stories (trust me, I talked to them!). However, the success rate is still low.

After comparing treatment here and there, my husband and I decide to do our TTC program in Japan so he can have microTESE surgery (it's different from TESE and it has much higher chance of finding sperm by using high power microscope to spot potential spermatogenic tissue) and ROSI (round spermatid injection --> ICSI but with immature sperm). But we haven't got the date (thanks to COVID) and while waiting, we still want to save some money. I'm quite well-versed with the medical terms since I'm a general physician myself here on Batam island (yes, my husband used to commmute everyday BEFORE this friggin covid pandemic started)

If you want to connect with me, please follow my TTC instagram account : @azoospermia.warrior
There are a bunch of other azoospermia accounts sharing their journey, how they cope with infertility, and how they finally come to term of acceptance. I believe by forming a community and reaching out to other azoosisters, we can exchange information and miracle will happen. If you want to remain anonymous, feel free to create a new instagram account. I do hope we can talk more. I know how devastating this journey is and how LONELY it feels with no one to share.

Hello BBTT!
Im new to the forum and need some advice. My DH was diagnosed with NOA. :(
May i ask if your DH did a Y Microdeletion test?

Mine was diagnosed with high FSH and borderline low testosterone, and Y microdeletion
We were told that even with tese the chances of finding sperm would be very low.

My husband has not been tested for genetic abnormality. We are also told that our chance of finding sperms is low because of his high FSH.

Hello there! My DH's stats are more or less the same as yours.
Would like to seek your advice if the therapy and meds/jabs helped improved your DH's SA?

My fertility specialist is suggesting we go for donor sperm as the result of tese will be poor. I am thinking of seeking second opinion at dr micheal wong.
Im still not ready to give up so hoping to see some advice! Thank you in advance

Hello there :) We are considering this option too. May i know if you went for it and how is the process like? I hear there arent any donors in SG.

Thank you for sharing your journey that relate to everyone of us here, it is comforting to have more support group and feel we are not alone.

The MOH in Singapore actually allows the import of donor sperm from accredited sperm banks in the USA. Please see the following article:

My husband therapy works as his FSH,LH and TESTOSTERONE is now normal but just no sperm yet, so still need to do microtese. Due to the coronavirus, we could not travel to singapore to do the microtese.Hopefully this helps.

Welcome to this support group, we are all together facing this test. Yes, we have to be strong for our husband. InfertIlity is a test in marriage. Give him and u sometime to digest this info before u decide any attempt in fertility.

Hi everyone,

I did a fertility test at Thomson Medical recently. DH results were not promising.
FSH: 23.5
LH: 7.8
Testosterone: 30.4

The doctor didn't want to look me in the eyes and just passed me the results. I know its hard for them to be empathetic. We were asked to check out the donor sperm program. I was more concerned "Is this it? Isn't there a TESE or micro-TESE we can try before asking a donor? Someone help me please."

I know its the worst possible infertility problem any couple can meet. Nothing can be more rock bottom than this. DH then revealed he wanted a kid all these years but never actively pursued. It breaks my heart.

DH and I have not come to terms with it. I feel helpless. I cry when I think about it. I lived my life, overcoming any obstacles with hard work or at least earn enough money to solve a problem but I can't seem to solve this.

I am going to seek a second opinion with the results we got. I plan to see a TCM fertility as well. I'm not giving up without a fight.

For many infertile couples, the on-going in-vitro gametogenesis (IVG) seems like a game-changer. It grows artificial sperms/ eggs from stemcells retrieved from your skin or blood. With artificial sperms, it contains the biology of the person. No more anonymous sperm donor needed. It gave me hope. I so wished it's available now. You can read about it below.

Hello @theonewhogotaway

Sorry for reaching out so late - i just want you to know that i totally know how you feel. We were diagnosed July 2020 and we are still trying to cope with the news.

Please do go seek a second opinion with the results and find out exactly what is his diagnosis before making any decisions. Stay strong. If you need any info/or just to rant, pls feel free to drop me a line :)

Hello @theonewhogotaway

My husband and I went to NUH to get 2nd opinion yesterday. We were lucky to get to know a consultant from O&G during our 1st visit (referral thru polyclinic). We gave them all the results test that we did in Thomson Medical. As my husband has a genetic issue, they are referring him to genetic and urologist doctors. They told us that we definitely need to do IVF but beforehand they need to get sperm from my husband. He need to go thru some medication first. Definitely going to general hospital is a long time waiting, but we felt safe to do it in NUH. We do have relative and friend who went to NUH regarding fertility issues. I do hope this info help you. Stay strong

Hello,
When I went for my fertility check at Thomson medical, the doctor also immediately said that the only option for us is to look into donor sperm. My husband and I didn’t like the dr despite he is so experienced. It’s like a death sentence to us!
so in the end we decided to go to KKH. We did quite an extensive blood test and the doctor found out the reason, and suggested IVF+PGT.
I will be starting the cycle this May, but what I wanna share is, don’t give up!Look for other options!
