Hi Amir Hakim,
Thanks for your feedback. I assume your kid is also attending Kits-for-kids? If so, may i know which branch? Your feedback is definitely very encouraging. BTW , how old is your child when he first started with kits for kids? How long has he been there? And also does he attend daily sessions? Thanks in advance
Hi 2XMUM
I see that your kid attends daily class at K4K. Any intention to slowly pull him out to go mainstream kindergarten?
Sigh...after reading your feedback & Amir Hakim's feedback, I regretted not signing my son up in July ... a few reasons held me back...
Firstly, yes the "lukewarm response" i got from the school got me slightly worried...but thanks to you both, i now know my worries were unfounded ...
Secondly, many "well-intent" relatives kept asking me to refrain from putting my son in "special school" - they said just let him attend "weekly therapies" and complement that with daily mainstream childcare...as my son is mild, i thought "ok maybe put him in the company of "normal" kids, he will soon talk ... but alas, mistake ! His behaviour seems worse than before...and i realise this half year of "delayed intervention cost him a bit of developmental milestones" ... as in ...he still cannot communicate ..tho he is starting to verbalise 2-syllabus word AND only at his WHIM & FANCY...and albeit not v clear... sigh...don't mention counting up to 30....counting to 3 is even a problem ! And he has an even stronger "own agenda" than before - very "non-compliant" (ie does not follow instructions!)
Now i feel bad ... mummy dearest made a wrong move. Sigh...I guess i will call the school up to enrol him next year ...hopefully they will still accept him ...
Thirdly, i didn't enrol him as there is no one to transport him - and i didn't wanna stress him with school bus - my son is very very very scared of new environment, strangers...so i feel school bus is a no-no... either walking distance or nothing for him
in any case, i hv intention to leave my job so i can ferry him around next year
well, not that i wanna spoil him lah...sometimes when i look at him, i already feel he is quite "unfortunate" to hv this condition... so i try not to stress him unnecessarily ...
on this note, I intend to enrol him twice-weekly in K4K while the other 3xweekly he will remain in a mainstream kindy. Amir Hakim, 2Xmum or any other parent w Autistic child, what do u think of this arrangement ?
Hi Amir Hakim & 2XMUM
Did K4K help you toilet -train your child? My boy is turning 3 yearend, he is still not toilet-train
2XMUM : Wow .. you played w him from 7pm-10pm ? After work ? After work, i m always dead like a log...hence i have resigned recently ...intend to take care of my boy myself....
Thanks mummies , for all your prompt responses
Its good to know mummies out there facing similar situations....i mean, sometimes when i bring my child out & he behaves weird...people do stare at him...in his defence, i feel like telling people that he is autistic & please excuse him ... but i held back as i thought why should i explain to people ? He , being autistic is already at an "disavantage", why can't he have his own space too...afterall it is public place, he is free to do whatever "silly things" he likes so long as he does not harm anyone
Do you mummies feel the same way ? Or , am i being overly protective of him....i must admit, i do protect him a lot...cos i always feel God gives him to me cos He feels only I can protect him
Am I siow? Maybe lor .. hahaha
