Anyone doing IVF in 2020?

My stomach is super painful now and looks so bloated people think im pregnant :'(
It is so hard to walk and my trigger shot is only tonight
Is it a good idea to still go to office or best for bed rest...

Ju
Ouch! Hurts!
Just did my ER today. Was knocked out to sleep quite quickly (maybe 2-3 mins). Could then feel some pressure as the procedure was going on despite being asleep and i thought i was making noises on how painful it was. Then it was done. Next i know i woke up an hour later

Feel so down today :(

Out of 28 eggs retrieved, 21 were matured but only 8 fertilized :(
Thats like only less than 40% of the matured ones.

Need to wait till wednesday to see how many survive...

I will be considering IVF right away if my first SO-IUI does not work. My husband has a standard morphology but the number of motile sperms isn’t very high (5.7 million post wash). I also do not ovulate regularly although it is better after I made some lifestyle changes since last year. Any recommendations on doctors and the costs involved? I don’t think I’ll use private for IVF as it’s too costly.

Hi all, Happy New Year 2020!
I would like your opinions on iui/ivf.
I have pcos and was put on clomid for several rounds (unsuccessful for all). I just did the HSG test and my tubes are clear. I am below 30 years old and am really inclined to try iui first (age factor, etc). But my hubs suggested going for ivf straightaway.

I’ll seek advice from my gynae on my next appt, but would really like to hear other input as well. Should i try iui first or go straight to ivf? Thanks in advance!

What about hubby’s sperm quality? I was on Letrozole for 4 rounds and unsuccessful (2 of the cycles we were traveling separately ). Dr did not give me Clomid as it thins the lining. I am 31 and tubes are patent (clear too). I have high AMH (egg reserve) too. The reason why I chose SO-IUI first is because IVF is very invasive (have friends who done it as it’s seriously a rollercoaster). I wanted to see how me and my hubby reacts to IUI - the hormone jabs etc. If my SO-IUI fails, I’ll rest for a while and do IVF. With this SO-IUI done, I feel that I have more courage and more mentally prepared.

Today is day 5 and my clinic prefers to do FET using blastocyst...

day 3 all made it, with 4 grade-1, 1 grade-2 and 3 grade-3 embryos

Day 5, 4 early blastocyst, 2 morulae, and i guess two more stopped growing...no blastocyst though so the embryologist asked to wait to day-6 and maybe day-7 for the morulae, and they will grade it tomm to see if any is good enough for PGS

Not sure if it's risk waiting to day 6 for blasts since it has to make it to day 6 and be good enough to be frozen...

Hubby has teratospermia (morphology issue), but dr gave him supplements to help with it. Other than that sperm count etc is good.

How was your experience doing SO-IUI? Did you do it at private clinic? I’m also worried about the finances :( Might switch to kkh if we decide on ivf..

I’m 33 in 2019, and go straight for ivf as we have been trying for sometime and i did went for an IUI back when im 27 with no results.

During the ER cycle.. the embryologist told me out of 9 fertilized eggs, only 2 was naturally fertilized (when they placed the sperms and eggs in the same dish), the other 7 was ICSI. And 2 of the 9 fertilized eggs was abnormal... :( Although they didnt tell me which 2.

IUI has 2 types.. SO-IUI and IUI. So i guess it depends which option you are going for and how well you response to clomid. :)
I see, I’m 27 this year and embarking on this new journey. Nobody around me has experienced this before, so I’m really thankful for this platform. :)

Am still weighing out the pros and cons. Which IUI did you go for back then? I think if we decide on IUI, it would have to be SO-IUI cos i have ovulation issues. :(

I will actually recommend SO-IUI first cuz of PCOS. Get over the psychological barrier first then go f
I did go the private route.. and expected the bill to be high. But somehow it was manageable.

Here is what i did:

1. TCM (meds + acupuncture) - $600/month went abt 5months

2. IVF first round oct19 (ER cycle) - 6k medisave + 4.5k cash

3. IVF second round dec19 (FET cycle) - 4.5k (medisave up to 5k)

My gynae is very gentle and explains well, hardly need to q beyond 30mins for appointments and she place me on supplements and pregnancy support!

And.. she actually did the transfer for me on the day she was due to fly.. and brought along Dr SF Loh.. she told me she wanted to be very very sure!

Let me know if you need more details!
Which hospital and gynae did you use? Raffles quoted me 19-20k which was definitely scary.

If the morphology score is 1 or 2, I would definitely go for IVF immediately. However, this is only my opinion based on some of our friends. My hubby’s friend has a morphology score of 1, did SO-IUI thrice and all failed. They went for IVF and has a healthy boy now. I went for SO-IUI as hubby morphology is a 3 (borderline). I wanted to get over the psychological barrier first. If we get a child, then lucky us.

the pricing is depending on how much injectables one need. higher dosage = higher cost.

but i am seeing Dr Marianne Hendricks, her clinic is at Mount E Novena.
Transfer was done at CARE (Centre For Assisted Reproduction Pte Ltd) @ Novena Specialist Centre.
I asked Raffles for a quote and that’s all they gave me. I was hoping for some breakdown cost.

The whole process was really awesome and problem free. I did it at Raffles Hospital under Dr Koh. He is very gentle. I am situated in the US and switched gynae so the beginning had a little process complication.

Day 1 - First day of menses
Day 2 to Day 6 - Took 2.5mg Letrozole daily (Dr Koh said if I had consulted him, he might have me take 5mg instead).
Day 7 - Did HSG - no pain or feeling at all. No blockage. Dr Koh did pelvic scan and found that lining and follicles (2 in right and 3 in left) not responding well to Letrozole. He said I could still monitor naturally or do SO-IUI but later decided on SO-IUI. Was prescribed with 75IU Puregon that I need to inject every night from Day 7 to Day 10 (see doc on Day 11). Made a dumb ass mistake by forgetting to remove needle cap so I wasted 1 dose but as I was given 400IU cartridge so I still managed to jab myself 4 times. The first jab was scary as I’ve always been afraid of pain and needles. Side effects: Very very bad headache, throbbing headache. I was also sick too but didn’t dare to take any medications.
Day 11 - Went back for the scan and there was 1 dominant follicle in the right ovary and a near dominant follicle also in the right ovary. Left ovary did not grow much. Hubby’s results came back as reasonable (Sperm Count ok, Motility considered average and Morphology 3). Dr Koh gave him amino acids. He told me to also jab whatever Puregon I have (approx. 50IU).
Day 12 - Monitor ovulation and told to email Dr Koh immediately if there was a LH surge otherwise will proceed with trigger shot on Day 13.
Day 13 - Took trigger jab early morning.
Day 14 - Dr Koh came back specially on Xmas eve to do the IUI procedure. It was very fast and no pain or discomfort (like paps smear), bladder had to be full. Total washed sperm was 5.7 million with 98% motility and morphology 3, not extremely high since they only use the best swimmers. However, we only need 1 sperm out of that 5.7 million so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. After the procedure, I was resting in supine wide V position. I went to pee after resting cuz cannot tahan. From trigger jab to IUI, it was at the 26th hour. He told us to BD at night, next morning and night to increase chances. We did not cuz tired, only BD on Day 15 morning. I was prescribed with progesterone and to start taking 2 days later.

Today is post day 8 IUI, keeping my fingers crossed and trying my best not to think so much and not to test myself. I take chicken essence that has no herbs daily and some red bean soup (just the soup). I have headaches, bloated belly and feel lethargic easily. I was also having hot flashes these few days which I’m guessing it’s due to the heaty stuff I’m taking (chicken essence and red bean water). I’ll be seeing Dr Koh post day 15 and doing the HCG blood test as I will be flying off back to the US on Day 16.

Prior to IUI, my diet changed to include more whole and organic food, more greens, only wild caught fish as farmed fish has high mercury, cut out dairy, more sprouted seeds and grains, cut out chemicals, drank reversed osmosis water (installed a filter) and I take an organic vegan liquid multivitamin too (hate swallowing pills). All these were recommended by my Naturopathic doctor (also a MD). I seeked help from her due to my PCOS and insulin issue. Doctors in the US then said my body was not ready to conceive due to high environmental toxins that even IUI or IVF won’t have high success rates. Singapore don’t have extremely advanced technologies so doctors will just tell you that your body is stressed which is too generic. However, stress does not come only from work, the majority is actually environment related. My husband is more stubborn so he only changed minimally. However, he was willing to take some vitamins so I guess it’s better than nothing. FYI, my PCOS improved as a result of these changes.

However, I’m a pretty realistic person so I’m also finding out about IVF. I feel that after this IUI, I am more prepared. The reason on why I want to rush to IVF is also because of age. I am turning 32 and hubby will be 41 in 2020 (this means that my hubby will be in 60s when our kid reaches 20). If I was to do IVF, I would rest for a few months before doing it. I’m gonna switch hubby’s vitamins (currently takes B Complex, Zinc and Vit C). I found a formula in the US which appears to be pretty effective (contains what he takes above with additional minerals and vitamins), approximately 37 usd for a month’s supply. Many guys took it for at least 1-2 months before seeing results.

PS: Both vitamins given the green light, happy to share the brands.

I agree about doing 1 round SOIUI to get over the psychological barrier. I felt that way too. Since we also need to go for the regular scans and jabs, though of lower dosage than IVF. At least we can get used to going to hospital regularly for the scans in morning then rushing to work... lol.. Also get used to self jabs

My husband has low morph (2%) and low count (<1 mil on day of IUI), so the chances of SOIUI working for us was going to be very slim anyway.

There are some who can BFP with IUI though, so it’s not impossible. It’s all about luck!
Yup agreed. Injectables and medication helps with lining and follicles.. But many other strips such as the lucky sperm swim to matured egg, fertilize the matured egg and implant successfully too..

Same here. I tried 3 rounds of medicated cycles and then 2 SO-IUI before jumping on to IVF

While the doctors didnt really see any major issues with both my hubby and me and I was ovulating well with the meds, I didnt want to do more IUIs since the cost was gonna escalate further anyway if it fails.

As for my husband, while his count was normal, his morphology went from 2 to 1 and motility was not that great.
After 3 months of multivitamins and cooling techniques, the SA count and motility went up by almost double.

The initial IUI cycles made me for comfortable with injections and hence, it didnt really scare me in anyway during IVF. It also allowed me to understand how I react to some meds as compared to the others and also on possibility of OHSS given my high AMH count and PCOS.

Plus all the blood tests required for IUI is the same as IVF and as such, there was no need for a 2nd round of the tests since they were all within 6 months.

Just did my 1st IVF cycle upto ER, it was on moderate dosage, using antagonist and not HCG. Will next do FET once PGS report is out.

He used super loose boxers and pants along with cooling pads (that is a brand from the US that sells this cooling pads for men)

As the doctor said heat might cause destruction of sperms

He still does it till now because i think the cooling pads are comforting

Uh ok. I gotta find that in the US. Yea, it’s not good to put any electronics like phones and laptops near the man’s area. My hubby has a bad habit of putting his laptop on his laps

Not IUI, 1st IVF FET cycle, just did egg retrieval on day 15 last friday...today is technically day 21
I see. Could you share details on your ivf cycle? I’ve no idea on the steps in it. Trying to do some advanced planning as SO-IUI chances are not high.

I didn’t opt to break it up!
Had to break it up cause my gynae was concern abt OHSS (ovarian hyper-stimulation symptoms) so due to the trigger shot given the first cycle cause me not to be able to do a fresh embryo transfer.

Also because they discover polyps during the retrieval, went for polyps removal in nov19 and did FET in dec19.

Blood test is in 2 days time!
I am very hopeful, cause i have just seen my sinseh earlier. She told me to collect 安胎药 (TCM herbs to stabilize pregnancy).. and she told me pulse is good!

Short answer, yes, if you did 1 round of harvesting embryos and 1 round of frozen embryo transfer, its consider 2 IVF cycle.
Good luck!!

Has anyone done IUI/IVF at Mount E before? Do share if you have info on the cost :)
I did read a post on someone consulting a doctor in Mount E. Can’t advised on the cost but I did my SO-IUI at Raffles which is also private - total cost as of now including pregnancy blood test is $2513.90 (not including HSG). Natural IUI will be cheaper however I have PCOS history so dr recommends SO-IUI for higher chances.

hi Zerelda, you should try PGS if you have PCOS, higher chance too .

Mine was done at Mount E - Novena / Specialist centre.

so basically i pick my own gynae (she is awesome by the way) and she told me which IVF labs/centre we can go to for the Embryo pickup and transfer.

i was initially with her & thomson fertility (@ novena specialist) short walk from my gynae's office.
But have to switch to CARE (@novena specialist too) as TFC facilities is closed from 3 Dec - est mid Jan20 due to the move.

and i wanted the transfer to be done in Dec19 due to workload and scheduling.

In total i spent about a total of $15k ($10.5k was paid through medisave), i was placed on gonal-f for 10days during simulation period, 300iu/day along with supplements - gynositol & vit D.

During ET period, was placed on Vit D, folic and few other types of support supplement.
Yeaps! Definitely will do that too if I need to do ivf. I’m just trying to get the estimated costs out. Raffles is quoting me 19-20k.
I have done my embryo transfer.. Waiting time.
All the best to yours!

PGS cost quite a lot. In JB, was quoted additional SGD 3.5K for it.
My gynae is SG quoted me somewhere around 6k-8Kfor it I think, and they will send it to Malaysia to be tested since it is not allowed in private practise in sg

What has your cost like been so far? Do you already know your full cost? Private?
Hi I did private. But went to JB because I wanted to do PGS. I paid about sgd $20k $25k, I think it is still cheaper than Singapore. Very reliable doc too.

Yeah I like her too. I did 1 round SO IUI with her though failed. Hoping to have better success with IVF this year. Was it your first round of IVF that succeeded with Dr Jessie?
Yes..I was lucky that succeeded on my 1st try...But I have no frozen embryo...I'm thinking to start another round at NUH...As KKHIVF is really full load.

Hello ladies, I am new to this forum. Has been TTC for no.2 for 2 years but has not succeeded. Am currently seeing Dr Sadhana at KKH and she recommended going for IVF. May I check with you ladies how Long it takes to queue for IVF at KKH? Understand that it will take up to 3 months. Please advise as I’m v new to this. Thanks!
That the very reason I'm trying my next journey at NUH instead of KKH

I am new here. Starting my first cycle at kkh today. What are the things to take note? Does anyone takes any TCM tonics while doing it?

Me! i am seeing Dr Lim Sor San @ times enterprise / aperia mall.

Was taking the powder sachets that she provided and weekly acupuncture 2 months before egg retrieval and continue all the way with the powder sachet till embryo transfer cycle. During the transfer, due to the amount of support pills i have to take (4x session/day) i opt to stop the powder sachets and only go for weekly acupuncture. After the transfer (D1) she had me to return from D3 and every alternate days after for acupuncture.
Thanks BrandyK. I was visiting Eu Yan Sang TCM doctor for several months last year. During the Kkh briefing, the Dr suggested me to stop going to TCM as they are not sure what are the ingredients inside the TCMmedicine. I was thinking of trying the drip chicken essence. Anyone has tried this before?
