Any comments on Montessori for Children

Wei Lin, ya initially I will follow him everyday to see how he is doing? Then slowly let go n let him take the bus on his own. The school charged me S$30.00 to follow him to n fro in the bus. Yup me too will be for a year, cos wan to move him to marymount kindy when he turns 3yrs which will be 2008.

But Genevieve's need to companied caregiver, so I sian cos I dun wan to be in the class with him n price also higher (S$300.00 a mth for 3times a week) n ratio high (max 15tods) too. Trial is S$25.00. But if u sign up on the day of trial, then the trial is waived.

Sally: Ya. The fees r higher. But I have spoken to Genevieve yesterday. She's really full of passion for children and her knowledge really enlightened me.
Hubby encouraged me to try GUG (2X a week) or Genevieve instead of going to NTUC Flexi care.

Wei Lin, Yup I must say Genevieve is good thru wat she puts in her email. But when I spoke to her staff, i not really sure cos if 15kids + 15adults, how to let kids concentrate n be attentive in class.... So if u choose Genevieve, then your maid will company your gal for class? GUG is good but i think their price very high liao, they increasing again.

Sally: Genevieve is rather sure that the class won't go up to 15 kids. But the problem is, they r closed for holidays now. We have to pay for the fees even during holidays. If I choose eithr GUG or Genevieve, she has to be accompanied.
Ya, I realised GUG increased their fees slightly. Programs are considered ok. Just that there is insufficient teacher-parent communication or lack of feedback on the child from the teachers.
Thinking if going for Julia Gabriel Bilingual Playclub. But that means my Sat n Sun will be burnt by her enrichment.
Sianz x 1000 times. Thought I have more or less decided on sending her to NTUC. Now, I m undecisive again.

Hi wei ling....

its been a long time since i came in. Remember the dilemma i had when i couldn't decide where to put my son after GUG? He's now in a montessori playgrp at whampoa area. He loves it there. Didn't have any problem dropping him off on the 1st day. (Maybe he sianz of being at home wif my FIL.)

Also same like genevieve...have to pay during school holidays even though no classes.

He is more organised now....but of course...ask a lot of questions still. You are staying at toa payoh area rite?

Think you should check it out when they are opened in jan. The teachers are very nice. And i like their curriculum.

Wei Ling, i also like JG, but distance n accompanied, I dun wan lei..... thus din go for Genevieve trial. I very very sian to be in the class with him lei.... NEED a BREAK, hence going for the playgroup w/o accompanied..... heehee very bad mommy hor....

Audrey, Hi. Wat is the montessori playgroup name in Whampoa? Where is the location? Cheers.

Audrey: Which montessori playgrp did he go? The one above HDB blk? So far ok? If ok, I don't mind putting her there for twice a wk. I am staying near Whampoa Dr market.

Wei Lin,

For me, my heart also half half. The purpose of sending my gal to CC is to allow us to bring her daily. Currently I only bring her home over the weekend due to distance problem. But I prefer to send her to playgroup or future would be kindergarten. Is there a montessori playgroup at whampoa ?

Audrey,

May be you can share with us the montessori playgroup.

Sally,
I will be going for the trial now waiting for my neighbour if she is interested to go with me.
Btw, you have those book Ericable books, sample one (soori can't rem how to spell) at your house ? Do you think I can view them first cos i prefer to see the content before i buy. PM me if you can.

hi wei lin,
If you are comparing the weekend lessons, I find GUG more organised and better than gen. However, I am not sure about the weekday daily lessons.

Hopeac: Thx! Didn't receive much gd feebacks on Gen.

Funny: I am confused too. Most prob, I am sending her to twice a wk at GUG. Though it's more commercialised, at least, I know how the programmes r run there.
There is a montessori playgrp at Whampoa. 3 hrs daily. or you can choose 2x or 3x weekly. I am finding a playgrp too coz I am sending my dd to Barker Rd Kindy next yr. Sigh*

Hi mummies,

Hi hopeac,
u r staying in TPY rite? how is ur gal? any good cc in TPY to recommend?
happy.gif
thanks.

hi selina,
I am not staying Toa Payoh. I am working there, and my daughter is looked after by my aunt who is in Toa Payoh. Good CC. I am not very sure about which is good. The CC at HDB Hub is suppose to be good. However, it is a big CC and takes in kids around 2.5 years and above. There are some mix comments for Kinderland at safra. The LV MCYS is relatively small.

Funny, me not the one selling lah... heehee.... the nicks confusing... me is sallyngsj..... the person selling is sally_ng from tokomama......... dun wori u r not the first one.... i always received those PM n have to reply them....... i also sian liao....

Hi weiling/funny/sally...

sorry...can't come online as often..now preggy wif 2nd kid.

Its da one above the HDB or town council there. They only have limited places. You checked there out already? I tinks its call edu-centre montessori.

There's no classes now. But I'm not sure if their admin are closed for the holidays. Its quite a small set-up. The classes would resume in jan.

Audrey: Congrats!
I have been there for a visit before, a few mths ago. They mix kids fr 18mths to 4 yrs old right? My girl is only 18mths old. How to learn at the same pace? This is the only worrying issue. Otherwise, the location is convenient, coz it's just a 5 mins walk from my home.

Yr son goes 2/3/5 times a wk? Their fees ain't cheap for a small set-up. Care to share more abt their curriculum?

Btw, how old is yr son?

Hi wei ling...

i sent him there when he turned two. He's now coming 28 mths. Yeah...at first i tot it was quite ex for such a small set up. I started him on thrice weekly classes. But planning to do 5 times a week next year. I like the teachers there. And my son now can sit thru those wooden puzzles...unlike last time when he would give up after few mins. Maybe you might wana try GUG first....just for the weekly once when you are ard to let her have a feel of a class. Its better to send her for playgrp only when she is able to verbalise her needs.

I send my son to the playgrp only when he is more vocal wif his needs. He is very talkative b4 he went for the classes. Now learn mroe stuff from the other kids.

Hi Wei Lin,
There is an open house on 2nd dec at Ykidz montessori from 10:00 to 15:00. Probably you can take a look.

Hi Audrey,
wow, 2nd kid. congrats!
what is the teacher child ratio ?

Hi hopeac,
thanks for the info.. the HDB hub cc now takes toddler from 18mth.. but my son still cannot verbalise his needs yet.. so my mum is object to send him to cc.. i m a bit confused now..

Funny: Thx for the info. Don't think I will go coz there are quite a few choices for me. Furthermore, it's rather far. What abt u?

Audrey: Thx for the info. I have made appt with Lydia and will view the centre and talk to her this wkend.
I have sent my girl to gug for once a wk enrichment since she was 8 mths old. Now, I am considering edu place or GUG twice a wk for her.

Edu-Place: Convenient. 5 mins walk. Montessori programme. No accompany is needed. Can let her learn to be independent. However, Audrey, you are right. She can express her needs verbally yet. But I saw a boy, 22 mths at tat time. He joined when he was just 17 mths. Lydia commented that children should join as long as they can walk steadily.
GUG: Got to take a bus with helper but my girl can be accompanied during lesson so that maid will cater to her needs.

Really don't know which to choose. Sigh*

Weilin,

I will be going for the open house. Already arrange a trial in Dec. See how it goes.

Selina,

i am fine on 27, 28 or 29 weekdays or weekend since weilin can only join us on weekend.
How abt sally ?
Can I check are you the one who bought the logico set from china/shanghai ? Cos i want to know where exactly can i buy from China.

Mommies, me any day ok for 27/28/29 dec since no classes during that week.... prefer morning cos my boy naps around 1-2pm so would need to be back then, if not, nightmare for all with his crankiness.... heehee

Funny, my boy will start on 11 dec with Y'kidz for 3 times a week, then the actual 5 times a week in Jan 07. U go open house n see if u like........ :0

Weilin,

The trial is foc. You give me your email and i forward you the email that Annie sent to me.

sally, selina,

shall we have it on the 27 dec ? I prefer morning too. my gal will nap nap in the afternoon too.
Weilin, are you coming ?

Sally: I m quite keen to join the Y kidz. It's cheaper even with sch bus. Annie advised to take 8.30am slot too. For me, most probably, I will opt for 3 times a week and see hw.
Can you describe more abt the place n the curriculum?

Funny, Selina
Sure no problem on 27 Dec. 10am? Funny, at your place? My place also can...... Let me noe.

Wei Lin, 0830hrs new time slot so still got vacancies. incl my boy, now onli 4. 1030hrs slot cos onli left one place as the kid has been promoted to the next level, n the rest of the 9 kids already been there for a few months so they already into the routine, well behave liao, so kind of difficult for my boy to blend, thus I chose 0830hrs. 2pm slot also good, but my boy nap time. Place is small, n ratio is good, max 10 kids. Dun expect big. I chose it cos i like the small area n teachers r nice. Impressed with the kids who have attended there so wellbehaved after few months n picked up so fast. Curriculum cant advise u much as I noe there is montessori time, mandarin time, music time, storytime, etc. Maybe u go n check out on the open house. But honestly I dun like to go for open house cos cant really see the actual class. Hmmm u go with Funny to join the trial. Hope it helps.......

Wow it will be so cool to have Funny's n yours together in the same class as my boy.

Sally: True, it'll be nice if our children can be in the same class. keke... however, i am stil worried as my girl is too young to take a bus. There's no other bus attendant except the driver right?

Wei Lin, there is an auntie in the bus, n this auntie will be the same one helping out in class, bringing them to toilet n potty train them. So they will see a familiar face. Or u can get your maid to follow initially to n fro....... charge onli S$30.00 a month for adult for the transport.

why dun u try take leave n meet us on 27 Dec?

Sally: It's ok. You all can go ahead with the gathering. I can't take leave as I don't have any leave for the yr left.

R the kids buckled up in the bus?

Audrey: I went to Edu-Montessori to visit. Lydia was nice. However, my hubby wasn't confident in the place. She sounded too confident which puts him off. Kekeke.... Guess, I will most probably give Edu-Montessori a miss.

Hi Weilin,

Have forward you the mail. I will be going for the open house and I am thinking of going for a two weeks trial since I am on leave. Have yet to discuss with Annie.

Sally, Selina,
Time and Date is ok. Where is Selina staying ?

Sally, how do you normally travel with your boy alone ? by taxi, or bus. is your house near MRT ?

Funny, I take taxi, bus or MRT depending on ware I m going. MRT is abt 15mins walk away lei. Not that near with toddler. Can go over your place. No problem.

Funny: Thx for yr email! Sigh* I am not sure hw safe it is for a 18mth old to travel by school bus. I am rather worried. Most prob, I will opt for 8.30am timing and see if my FIL and hubby can take turns to fetch her to school. May choose 3 times a week.

cool wei lin, dun forget to tell Annie I introduced u..... Funny also. Did she mention about the time slot u choose (0830 or 1400) will have a 5% discounts? Must ask her for it. N reg fee at 50% discount. If she cant remember who Sally is, tell her my son name is Akinesh. She sures remember.... the monster roaming around....... heehee

Sally: Sure! If it's good, I will enrol my girl for 8.30am slot. Maybe, I will bargain with her to waive the registration fee. Kekeke....

Sally: Back from trial from Y'kidz. My girl was the youngest there. Quite a big group for the 2pm slot. My girl was busy roaming ard, I merely stood one side to see. She was left to roam ard at times. Perhaps, I am over-protective. I found that it's too dangerous for the teachers to leave her to roam around, even for a short while as she's still too young.
Hubby wans't impressed the small space & limited montessori materials. However, the tecahgers & auntie are nice ppl. For the 1st half an hr, the kids fr 17mths to 6yrs old r grouped together. The older kids were running abt, trying to hug & carry my girl. Maybe, it was her 1st time being in a class with much older kids. I couldn't accept, honestly.

But this trial made my choice easier. One down. I am only left with 2 choices now.

Wei Lin, me chinese. hubby indian. How many is in the afternoon session? How much is Edu Montessori? Which are your other 2 choices? Cheers.
