(2015/01) Jan 2015 Mummies

Hi, 10wks plus nw! Recommended by gynae to go for latest non invasive prenatal test, but it costs 2k! This is baby #2 and when i had baby #1 only last year, dun hv such test ..wonder to take anot. Im below 30 so considered low risk?
Under 30 yo can do oscar first. If need be, do harmony after that.

Cost of harmony test is only $1300 at my gynae. Kk cost $1500. Some docs charge up to $2100.

The test gynae gave me is called Panorama. Can test not only for down synd but many others too n more accurate. Oscar test n triple test is the same thing right.
V headache whether to do. $2K!! See the leaflet abt the diff kinds of syndrome scares me

IMHO Panorama is similar to harmony test
http://www.panoramatest.com/
Panorama provides you information on:
  • T21
  • T18
  • T13
  • X, Y chromosome aneuploidies (monosomy X, XXX, XXY, XYY)
  • Sex identification (must be specifically requested)
  • Triploidy
  • Microdeletion screen that includes 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (DiGeorge Syndrome) and other microdeletions that combined are seen in 1 in 1,000 live births (must be ordered in addition to the Panorama test)
whilst Harmony provide information on
http://www.ariosadx.com/
  • Trisomy 21 is the most common trisomy at the time of birth. Also called Down Syndrome, it is associated with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities and may also lead to digestive disease and congenital heart defects and other malformations.
  • Trisomy 18 (Edward Syndrome) and Trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome) are associated with a high rate of miscarriage. These babies are born with severe brain abnormalities and often have congenital heart defects as well as other birth defects. Most affected individuals die before or soon after birth and very few survive beyond the first year of life.
  • Turner Syndrome(only singletone pregnancies)
  • Fetal sex (only singletone pregnancies)
was told some clinic actually tied up with the USA clinic and can offer the test at cheaper price .. .i signed up for mine at $1.3K before GST and this is on top of the OSCAR screening which will be used to screen other normal defect

is there a particular reason why your gynae suggested you to go for this screening? I see from the website that this paranoma test is has more coverage than harmony test... I will be interested in the paranoma because my previous pregnancy ended with abortion after my baby was diagnosed with chromosome 18p deletion ...but if your previous pregnancy or you and your husband has no presence of chromosome disorders, I do not see the reason why you should go for the test without going through the normal OSCAR...

Hello ecym,

My first baby did not have any of the abnormal chromosome and gyane suggested this purely due to it being the latest technology..ask if I wanna give a try. cos each pregnancy is diff, up to me though.
He mentioned triple test(I assume its the same as OSCAR) is not comprehensive and cant detect much.

Any mommies hiring confinement nannies. I am looking for one over cny...spoke to a lady and she is charging 3800. Would like to know if that is market rate?

Hi,

I was wondering, are all of you going for OSCAR test during your first trimester?
I am asking because, even with teh first scan, there is no guarantee of the results.
So is it worth going for the test?

Hi Sakshi, I am doing the OSCAR, I think it is a assurance for me. I am a first time mum.
I am a natural worrier. haha worry about everything.
I hope that it would be at least an assurance or at least prepare myself for what lies ahead. :p

Hi sunflower,

I know that. infact I worry about a lot of things too.
thats why i am worried about this :)
coz, ive read online and it says that even if the test says the baby is at low risk, it still has about 10-20% chances that the baby might not be okay.
this uncertainity of 10-20% worries me!!

oscar dun just check Down syndrome but other defects too ... no doubt it does not give 1005 result but at least 80% unless you willing to pay for 90% accurary test

also, yesterday I told my sis-in-law that i am pregnant and among the list of dos and donts, she told me, not to climb stairs.
not sure, how it that harmful.
i mean, i am not running up the stairs. i climb them at a comfortable pace, and hold the railing to avoid slipping.
but is climbing stairs harmful during first trimester?

Hehe, my colleague told me to don't walk so much and sit most of the time. :)
Think they meant well, we practice a bit more caution, we are also more assured?

I don't even dare to walk faster now. haha
I am thinking to restart my walking regime when I am in my 2nd tri.

WAVE *PTB7674, I am Sunnydale307 from mummysg. haha

if you want 100% result, CVS and/or amino is what you are looking at...

which is why we have oscar and other screening to determine if you want to find out all from CVS amnio ...

i know ...i am all for oscar / harmony / paranoma test (i dun care cost ) ... i will go to avoid CVS / amnio ..only when those test failed then do amnio ...

we are lucky that medical science improve so much. During my parent times, where got all these tests. Was telling my mum about this test, she give me the blur look. hehee

Hi all Jan mummies to be!

Just had my 8th week scan this Mon.. EDD 29th Jan.. My #2.. Gynae is Dr Paul Tseng at TMC.. Because I hope to deliver via VBAC after emergency c-sect the last time round.. Although Dr Tseng says I may still end up having c-sect due to my experience w #1.. I am still hopeful..

Btw my #1 was with Prof Tee at KKH.. A gentle & gd doctor.. But a bit on the quiet side.. So if u are like me with not much Qs.. Consultations will be short and sweet :p My #1 is now coming to 25mths..

Was reading all the previous posts.. Sad to hear about the losses :( just wanna to say stay strong and don't lose hope..

@nellyjoy.. Dropped you a PM.. Can help to add me to the Facebook group? Thanks!

Hi mummies , I know coke is not good for baby.. But today I felt really nauseous and sickly. Cannot sleep well also. But once I drink the coke .. Hehe maybe becos Im a coke fan .. Deprive of coke.

Actually for my #1.. I didnt stop taking soda drinks.. I felt that the gassy drinks made me feel better.. Helps me to burp out all the gas in my body.. That being said.. Remember to drink in moderation! I m still drinking coffee/ tea but cutting down a lot already..

I'm also seeing Paul Tseng. Man of few words with smiling face all the time :)
help u to save $ too. the cashier kept asking me to buy vitamins and folic acid. but paul say if I have my own folic acid, that is enough.

in matters of avoiding over-prescribing medication. my doc at kkh is good too.
though she had written a prescription of morning sickness medicine and folic acid, but she didnt force me to buy them. she said that u can buy your own folic acid.
and later the same for multi-vits too.

By the way, when the doctor does the scanning, do u literally really hear the heartbeat? Mine was just looking at the blinking heartbeat on the screen.
