haha coyote and Felicia.. aiyo, who knows this time the milk not enough.. keke..

MayC, I m not sure if they deliver as i always buy and go. I can ask for you next time I am there.

Felicia, it is best to latch your baby instead of just purely pumping out. There are several reasons that i can remember. Mummies that know can add on:
1) Hormones released during breastfeeding help to strengthen the maternal bond. This is the bond that you have with your baby. No one can do it except you.

2)In layman term. While latching, the baby saliva will be passed thru to you and signals to your brain that which kind of nutrients the baby needs . Your body will generate it and pass back to baby through your milk . These same for immunity.
At different development stage of your baby, our body will also generate the necessary nutrient for your baby too.

It is true that after 6 months if you wan to stop, it is ok. I breastfeed my girl till she is 1 year old. During that period, she only had her 1st fever at 9 months and coughing etc come later. Not sure if it is due my breastfeeding etc

oh my the thread is moving so fast, i can barely catch up.

welcome to the new moms.

who was asking about breastfeeding? i'm still bf my 14month old actually. though supply has dropped tremendously. this 2 weeks, cutting down on pumping already. got the medela PIS from the shop in KK, "the first year" or something for $699. no regrets. get a double pump, cos each time you pump the time taken is halved. it is not painful. i waited until post delivery, and tried breast pumps in the hospital. tried the philips and the medela. philips one i felt pain. medela no problem so even tho it cost so much i decided to get that. even then sore nipples+++ from latching initially. ouch! now starting my gal on FM past 2 weeks. some hiccups getting her used to FM but slowly and surely the sample tin is being used up. can imagine if never BF, how fast the FM will go down.

re raw veg: the advice is to avoid raw veg from outside cos dunno if washed properly i think. at home shd be ok. anyway i still eat. =)

past 3-4 days, nausea has been terrible. lost 0.5kg liao. at least never vomit.

Yes, you can sterilise the pump parts.. But not the motor horr.. Hehe.. The suction cup/ funnel parts cos this is where the milk will directly flow into the bottle.. Essential to sterilise cos you might not know what bacteria may be on the funnel if not washed properly.

Felicia - theres no hard n fast rule to bf.. If u can go all the way, why not. In fact if i can, id love to just bf cos ul feel closer with the lil one... But as work gets in the way n bf no rule.. As n when bb hungry, can go crazy for me cos i need at least few hrs of sleep if not il get the massive headache b4 work... So depends on individual capability. Have to try before knowing how far u can go...

MayC - i also order frm luvbabies my diapers n fm... Cheap n often my order is $200 above so free delivery.. Hehe

Eating raw vege n fuits is alright as long as its washed properly.. It also serve as fibre intake which is impt to minimise constipation...

Wow! Thanks for the advice, Mummies! Yup, I guess a combination of latching and pumping is needed. And yup, eating now is always more risky as you don't know whether it's 'clean' enough.
I am so worried about so many things now.

The belt extender looks good.. Since my pants are getting tight. Hehe. 9 weeks only and already gaining weight.

Blue Y - yes, I always get free delivery from luvbabies for I order 3 tins of Gain IQ at one go. At least now that Kieran is toilet trained, we are saving on diapers!

Pumping vs. latching - I would rather latch on anytime, pumping makes one feel more like a cow! But latch on is not always possible, such as when the baby sleeps for more than 3 hours at a stretch, or when you return to work. I also find that latching stimulates more milk production than pumping does, & clears block ducts.

Felicia - the longer you can BF, the better! I nursed exclusively for 6 months, then BF all the way till Kieran was 1 year old. Stopped cos I was pumping exclusively towards the end (cos his teeth were all erupting) & travelling for work quite abit, & the milk supply wasn't that much anymore. Like Jowinbaby mentioned, babies that are on BM also generally have healthier immunity - Kieran never fell sick when he was on BM but started to catch flu/cough once we switched to FM. Oh, and BF is excellent for losing weight! I went back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 6 weeks cos I was nursing every 2 hours.

breastpump
For those of you who don't want to spend, I heard that the Ameda pump is also very good. Quality is same as Medela, but it is almost half the price at $300+.

Felicia
I have BF my daughter for 2.5y and totally no regrets. Pumped for her when I returned to work at 3m, but still nursed her directly at night and on weekends. Stopped pumping when she was 10m, but still nursed her on demand whenever we are together. BF has helped her to grow well, improve her immunity against sickness and kept the bond strong even though I work full-time.

Re Breastpump
I am also using Ameda pump..good and easy to carry around..when I return to office after my ML, I just use a nursing shawl n pump at my desk..

Thanks MayC and (X) for the info on child's CDA. There is no age limit of the child before the govt stops the dollar for dollar top up right? i.e I can continue to contribute $100 every month no matter how old the child is and govt will just top up dollar for dollar until $6k is reached?

Seems like I am the only one using Ameda. I bought it like 4 years ago @ $320. I find that it not too bad & not noisy too. It's quite small, so I find it ok to bring to ofc to express my milk during lunchtime.

Coyote: Your SIL's gynae is very cheap. Is she a subsidised patient? Or it could be 2.5 yrs ago prices?

My gynae is from KKH. $85 (+ GST) is only for the gynae's consultation as a private patient. My consultation around 2 weeks ago including ultrasound, tests done, vitamins and GST was around $182.

However, I understand that for subsequent visits, my gynae fees will reduce by around $20 or so.

piggyB,
I also using ameda.
I have not used the PIS so not fair to compare. But i'm happy with my ameda. I turn both knobs to centre, the suction is good enuff for me.

Carpe Diem - My SIL is a pvt patient of KKH. What's why I am also wondering could it be because of the jack up of prices over the years? Coz so far from this forum I noticed that consultation fee & ultrasound fee are separated. For mine, here're the charges for ACJ clinic @ TMC:
1st visit: $98
Sub: $68
Sat: add $15
Ultrasound: $58

Coyote,
My 1st visit, consultation was $90, u/s $60, blood test $45. total $195.

2nd visit was $80 + $50 = $130

Echo & MayC, kudos to you for BF-ing all the way, as many mummies give up halfway due to pain/discomfort. My sis and cousin are like that. So many mummies here inspiring me man! Gonna pump all the way, give as much BM as possible when my BB is out! ;)

Got new symptom now, these few days experiencing itchy scalp especially from evening onwards. Surfed the net and found that it's common for pregnancy.

wahh...how come kkh very ex? esp for private patient...i think my tmc not that ex..per visit i pay about $100 which include medicine, ultrascan and scan pic to bring home..

Idali - which hospital u from? Diff clinic diff practice i think..
happy.gif

coyote - maybe it means the hormones are working hard so excess of oil on scalp....just take care....body too...cos scalp and body related so must take care all...

Felicia - thts the spirit...jiayo!
happy.gif

X - Can u take my name off the list? I'm going for washing at TMC tmr, sac no heartbeat, hcG too low. No point continuing tis pregnancy.

Nice knowing u all, have a smooth and healthy pregnancy. Will still drop by once awhile to say hi!

Last contribution: Breast feeding
I total BF my boy till he's 2. He's now 27 mths, he weaned himself off BM n now just take fresh milk. He dislike FM just like me...
happy.gif

I never think I would b able to BF at all coz my mum n sis can't BF. It's tedious but it's all worthwhile seeing Ur child getting all the benefits of Ur BM. I have problem latching at 1st. So I pump n cup feed my infant. But with support of my hub n the lactation nurse n Mrs Wong BB at TMC, I succeeded after a month.
So dun give up, Jia you mommies!

Sorry to hear that, bunnymuffin!

Thanks for the maternity wear tips, ladies! I'm so upset. Havent been eating well. Been vomiting right after dinner for 2 evenings.
sad.gif
if this goes on, I might as well skip dinner. Boohoo.. Pinky persevere! Thank goodness my fiance's thoughtful. He's doing the research on hotels for our rom.
happy.gif

Breastfeeding sounds painful.. Heard my friends' experiences. Ah can't wait to visit the Gynae in 2 weeks!

Nv expect kkh to b so ex! Omg

Coyote: I experienced itchy scalp today too but I brushed it off as I din wash hair this morning. Gosh.. Can't imagine wats gonna happen during confinement when we can't wash hair for so long!

Adel: We have finalized on the hotel n BS alr n leaving everything else like designing of invites, wedding favors to him but I'm v bored everyday cos I'm not working now.
sad.gif
When u having ur ROM? R u having wedding dinner or just solemnization?

Btw ladies, can preggies still find a job now? Say part time at least? Cos it seems like we r being discriminated... Haiz..

Peanut, try babygap! Haha

Pinko only solemnization. Unless parents insist on wedding dinner but I'll object!! I don't have the strength to plan a dinner. Worked till close to 9pm yesterday. Sigh! Haven't told my boss and parents abt my pregnancy so I'm struggling on my own, with only fiance's support

peanut
you can try the bulk purchase pages of SMH if you don't want to buy from overseas websites

pinko
if you want to find a job you should declare to your employer, but not sure if you will qualify for paid maternity leave if you join only during your pregnancy.

adel
breastfeeding can be a bit painful in the beginning but it does get better over time.

wow really hats off to those of you who are planning weddings and having a baby at the same time. don't know how you find the energy. good luck with your planning!

Hi all,

went for my first scan yesterday. They only found the sac but not the fetus... This is my 7th week from my calculation using first day of my MC. Doc gave me some hormone pills and asked me not to exercise. Gave another appointment two weeks later. Is there anything i should be worried about? Have been reading about blighted ovum and stuff like that. So am scared. Please share your experiences. Thanks.

Good morning mommies!!
Today is only tuesday and im dragging my feet to work. Ive been feeling very nauseaus lately so didnt check the forum last week..

Peanut: i just read your post abt spicy food. Oooh now thats y i vomited all out after eating spicy tomyum!!!!

Adel: congrats ya!!

Priya: hmmm hope everything will be ok. Think positive!
Not sure abt this tho... How are u feeling? Any cramps ect?

Adel: nine years ago, I was facing the same situation as you. But I think letting parents know the situation is good coz they will take care of you and make sure you won't overstrain yourself when preparing for your wedding. In fact my mum was duper protective esp when there were arguments with my pils about the wedding dinner! =P

Don't stress too much, let DH make most of the arrangements and decisions. If you are wearing a gown, rem to let the bridal studio know that you are preggy and ask them to give some allowance on the gown itself. I chose to wear something tight on top and flare at the bottom so as not to crush baby too much. (^_^)

haiz gals.. i had a bad evening last night. pink discharge came back n feeling very crampy. Lie down on bed whole night and felt much better. Pray hard today will be good

Bunnymuffin - so sorry about the news.
sad.gif
Hugs & take care. All the best for your subsequent pregnancy!

pinko - I think you are not obliged to mention that you are peggers unless it is so obvious even now, & the potential employer asks. I thought if one join prior to month 6 of the pregnancy, she would still be eligible for maternity leave? But clarify? Not sure if that is a MoM requirement for companies or out of goodwill on the part of some companies.

priya - hope things are fine. Maybe there is some calculation error & you are not as far along the pregnancy as you think?

Hi May,

well, my first day of last MC was 13th Apr...
Ya, I do experience morning sickness, fatigue and cramping. umm.. in the verge of giving up hope....

Good morning mummies!

Bunnymuffin: Sorry to hear abt the news. You take care & be positive ok! Jiayou!

Jowin: If still no improvement, betta go so gynae. Take care!
