(2011/05) May 2011

dolly, my baby is about the same size as yours, mine is 1.6kg at about 28-29 weeks, did your gynae commented that your baby is too big?

Mei : nope she didn't mentioned anything about the bb size..

Hannah : maybe it's due to my diet.. Have been taking outside food for breakfast and lunch, almost everyday since 2nd trim till now.. Can tell that I looks swell starting from arms to legs..

What exercise can I do now? I'm so clumsy now can't even shower my girl..

dolly: Ya, high salt intake can also cause water retention. Drink more water to lessen the impact of the salt if you have no choice but to eat out.

Don't have to do strenuous workout. You can consider stretching exercises, walking, swimming.

For stretching exercise, can take a look at this: http://www.babycenter.com/0_great-pregnancy-exercise-stretching_588.bc

I also went to look up swelling during pregnancy and they suggest about the same things to do:

Treating Ordinary Swelling During Pregnancy

Normal pregnancy induced edema is treated many different ways. The best thing you can do to minimize swelling is drink plenty of fluids and eat foods low in sodium and high in potassium. Here are some other steps to take to help minimize swelling during pregnancy:

* Keep moving throughout the day. If you have to stand for long periods, shift your weight between your legs and stretch your legs periodically.

* Wear support hose to help promote circulation in your legs.

* Exercise regularly if possible.

* When sitting or resting, elevate your feet and legs to reduce swelling.

* Avoid wearing clothes that are too tight or uncomfortable.

* Wear flats if possible.

* Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help reduce water retention.

Pregnancy massage may also help relieve some of the swelling associated with pregnancy, not to mention it feels great and helps you relax! What better an excuse to pamper yourself for a day or so. Remember, while swelling is a normal part of pregnancy, there are plenty of steps you can take to minimize your discomfort and ensure the health and well being of your baby.

Got excuse to go for that massage session now! =)

Hannah & Dolly: So envious that you all din gain much weight yet baby is healthy. I already gained abt 10kg and I think there is still more to go. Wierd though when I am eating as per normal before pregnancy.

Dolly: Have you tried pre-natal massage? I jus tried by mdm ida, does help to relieve some water retention and aches.

Angie: Eh... It all depends on how heavy when you started out i guess... I was about 70+kg before pregnancy (yes, i din lose much after giving birth to #1) and that's not too good for my height. So now, i can't gain too much coz otherwise it'll be worse for myself. I think this time i'm also less preoccupied with the bb and told myself that I don't have to eat for 2 (i did that the last time) so maybe that's y less weight gain. Maybe also coz i already gained enough for 2 babies the last time... Hahahahaha....

Hannah / Angie : yeah I've started massage 2 mths ago but my massage lady mentioned that I didn't put much weight rather more water retention... Before pregnancy, am 59 kg while now am 67kg... Last pregnancy, left 3-4kg which failed to shed off..

Hannah: haa ook...but most importantly baby is healthy! I just hope the post natal massage will help after birth. You tried that for your first kid? Does it help?

Dolly: dun worry, I heard water rentention goes away easily after birth, it is the stubborn fats that worries me cos I only got a little bit of water rentation.

Oh ya I need your advice too on baby carriers and breast pump...yesterday read many reviews till my eyes nearly pop out...

I am deciding between baby bjorn or ergo...and for breast pump ameda purely yours or the pump in style. Is it advisable to buy 2nd hand?

Our first baby in the family...all of us are lost....haa

Angie: I didn't do post natal massage. Still thinking whether to do or not... But most prob wun coz i think i just need to wear the stomach binder...

I have a few baby carriers. My favorite for newborn and young infants is actually the pupsik pouch. It's very easy to use without the hassle of those ring slings. And babies also feel very safe when in the pouch. When my girl got bigger, i bought a beco butterfly. Never regretted coz the material is soft and it's easy to use.

In terms of breast pump, i've used the pump-in-style and the freestyle from medela. the PIS was a loan from a colleague and i found it to be quite a good machine. However, it was also a little too strong for me. The size of the pump was also an issue coz i was pumping out exclusively to feed my girl (she couldn't latch on and I had problems with my nipple too) and had to bring it everywhere. So i invested in a 2nd-hand freestyle. It was so comfy to use and i could move around without the problem of it being plugged to the socket.

Ok, that said... if you have no problems latching on your bb, then you actually don't need such a good pump like the freestyle coz you won't be using it so much. Even if you're intending to pump at work, you need to consider if there's a space for you to do so and whether there's a electrical socket which most pumps would need. My sister-in-law used the ameda lactaline. Seems to be ok too.

Hope this is helpful. =)

Angie : as for bb carrier, we have using baby bjorn and it's really thumbs up.. Breast pump, I'm also using pump in style.. It's indeed a good machine. It has battery in it to operate the machine if you can't find a electric socket..

Hannah: that is really helpful. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] I just read abt the beco butterfly too, seems good! Oh but better to book soon if u thinking of doing the post natal massage, those good ones are all booked months ahead.

Dolly: thanks too, which baby bjorn u using? There are many kinds and I read tt synergy is good but pricey too.

My hubby is laughing at me now while I m writing, he dunno why women are all engrossed with forums. Haa....

Aiya... we are sharing resources... Men don't understand one la... Anyway, there's a BP going on for beco butterfly 2. It's going for $199. Can consider.

Haa yup I totally agree...he just like to disturb me.

Oh ok, will take a look. Sth I wonder where all the bp seller get their stocks...some are selling really quirky stuff...

most get from their those wholesalers who brings in these merchandises. Well, if what my friend tells me today is true, then women's money is the easiest to earn...

me: I know i don't need ***** but I just want to buy it... I'm a shopaholic!

Friend: Haha... Sounds like a woman. *runs off*

Have any mommies start on tonics alrd? And what tonics we can take??

Cos its near our 3rd trimester alrd. Its my 28weeks today! Approximately 2 & half month more to go!!

Slpless nights are coming again..

Angie:- I think for us first time mummies its the best that we use manual breast pump first & nt invest in motor/exp pumps yet.

Hannah: confirm...women $$ are so easy to earn...I find myself checking on bp very often nowadays too. But my hubby is there to 'watch' me in case I anyhow buy....irritating hubby...hee...

Emily: mdm Ida is good, but she is very hard to book. I saw many ppl having high compliments on origin jamu too.

Kaykay: me too!!! Coming 29 weeks and getting clumsier...I also curious wat additional tonics we can take. But they say can brew the red date, longan n dang sen, to improve baby complexion. Sth I got brew too, but dun really like the smell.

Thanks Hanna n apple will start my hpl today sat when back office to clear the outstanding and prepared the list hopefully things goes smooth

angie : my hb bought the a used bb bjorn carrier from ebay cost sgd SGD50 but not sure whats the model.. my girl quite like it and we will definitely use it for the next one..

angie : forgot to add, if you don't mind.. you can also consider getting a used PIS breastpump.. i got it for the 1st one too and the seller's quite nice to change the entire parts for me and sold me at SGD300 so it's quite a steal..

morning mummies [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

haven been feeling well last last week.. abit of LS... sigh... slightly better now...

saw tat there's new mummies joining ... welcome [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

when i went back on sat to my mum's place, she said tat dun want to do confinemnt for me bcos she said tat she scare tat her illness (she got cervical cancer 2 yrs ago) will pass it to me and my NB... asked her when she got the infor fr and she kept quiet.. i suspected tat her best friend told her tat bcos when she got high BP, her friend told her to take cocoa to lower down the BP and she took alot despite us advising her not to... she only hve this good friend and listened to her alot... now i dun know whether to stay with my mum for confinment or find alternatives... sigh..

Morning mummies.

I was glued to the news on friday when they announce the budget... ya not much benefit on hcild birth exp for the money given to children ages 6 and below.

Angie, the bjorn is good for newborns and bb to about 1.5 yrs old. for ergo, good for bigger babies cos u can back carry. so its really different carrier for differnt time. i have both of them and i like them both. but i got the becco instead of the ergo cos the becco is more compact than the ergo.

For breast pump, i go the Medela Freestyle and the Ameda lactine dual pump. both equally good but the freestyle is much more portable.

Morning All Mommies!

Dolly

Hows yr water retention? U must drink a lot of water to make the water retention less worse. Also, lift up yr legs whenever possible when sitting in Office. I purposely put an empty box on my table leg there, so I lift up my legs whenever I can. But my calf there pain... I guess the water retention stayed there instead of my feet.

Angie

I used pouch for my #1 since NB till he is about 2 yrs old. I find the pouch very useful. Bjorn Carriers are also very good for older babies. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Emily

I will try Origins Jamu this time as I read alot of good reviews from net & friends as well.

Kaykay

Black Chicken Soup & White Chicken Soup. Am taking it weekly for now. Can also eat Bird Nest as well. Did u manage to get your stretchmark cream?

Split

I feel that right now, your bb matters more than anything else. You should go ahead and take HPL since gynae also approved this HPL. U have a reason to take HPL; so try not to feel too bad about it. One of my close colleagues also always remind me, bb matters most now. Always tell me dun worry abt my work when am on mc/leave. I understand its hard. But very soon, u will be back to your co. after ML to work harder for them. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Yaer

Your 1st child is @ CC now, so it will be easier for yr maid to handle your #2 like what I plan too. The only thing is; if #1 falls sick and needs to stay @ home, u will probably need to take leave to look after #1 while maid continues her 'routine' wz housework + #2 as usual. This is what I had planned too.

I remembered last time when I had #1 and maid, I told my maid - bb comes 1st. Housework comes 2nd. Only when bb sleeps, then do housework. And also during weekends, I dun need her to look after bb for me. I will take over for 2 weekends days. From Mon-Fri when am back to Office, she continues her routine again. So she has more time to rest and her work over the weekends. In fact, I personally feel that when there is a baby at home, the maid tends to be able to "laze" a bit here and there. So housework will not as good as last time. Thats where we have to lower our expectations since we have a baby at home for the maid to look after. Am sure she can.

During your confinement, she continues to wash/clean your house as usual. Only your confinement food, u may have to consider order confinement catering unless u have someone cooks for u. Then, after confinement over, once over 3mths liao, u can ask her to watch how u look after bb and guide her. By 4th month, u can go downstairs buy things and train her to help u see/look after bb for half an hour or so... Slowly, she will get used to it.

Hope yr #1 had recovered from fever?

auroa : oh no.. elderly prefers to listen to friends rather than thru family members.. my grandma died of cervical cancer 4 years ago... she's at which stage le? if your mum can't take care of you, do you wanna consider getting a CL?

Auroa

Oh dear. Haz, I tell you. My mom also same same la, like to listen to her frens de. Maybe u wanna consider taking CL like what Dolly said. Unless u get partime maid to help u wash & all. Then for food, order confinement food as what u planned earlier?

Hannah/Starfruit/Dolly

Am surprised why there was no revision on the Parenthood thingy? I thought they are looking @ Paternity, the childcare subsidy and all? So in the end, nothing on childcare/parenthood? Somemore, still wanna increase maid levy?

My maid decides to stay le after a long discussion with her last Friday (when I was on MC). Phew!!! For NOW la. Hopefully, she dun play me out at the very last min. Keeping my fingers crossed 1st.

VV: cos they say the new maternity scheme was only introduced in 2008/09? and its too early to do any revision to it. i was hoping for more benefits for new mums too.

Starfruit

Haz, they all KNS de la. In fact, I think they worried the employers will start to complain lor. Somehow I feel that companies kinda bey song to employ married women cos feel that the 16weeks of ML is very bo wah to them and they need to get partime in la, blah blah.

vv: actually i think quite diff for them to increase the ML benefit lah.. but i tot they will at least look at increasing paternity benefit and childcare benefit. These will all help.

Agree that only low income benefits most, those in middle income, not much benefits at all.

morning ladies =)

hannah,

i also like to carry my boy in pouch. in fact, my hubby also use pouch to carry my boy =) now i am aiming to get another 1 frm pupsik =)

i cant agree more la - women's $$ are indeed easiest to earn...be it clothes/shoes/bags for ourselves or for the hubby and kids! hahaha.

angie,

online shopping is v shiok de - everything is just a click away! hahaha.

split,

take care of urself ya, rest well =)

auroa,

hope ur tummy will get better this week. take care too =)

hmm...mayb trying talking to ur mum again ba. if she still insisted then mayb have to get a CL if u wanna do a gd confinement or plan for other alternative.

Re: budget 2011

gd if they have additional perks for the parents esp if can increase CCL but if dun have i am ok..coz seriously, the so call perks are nt the deciding factors why ppl wanna have kids lo.

middle income always kena sandwiched in between de lo.

dolly/vv, hve tried to persuade her but she said tat can stay with her but she dun want to touch my NB or any stuff as she scare will pass (any means to NB or me)... arrugh... really diffcult to changer her idea of thinking now... she's at stage 3B which is at the late stage and doc estimated she got abt 5 yrs to go.. so far she survived 2 yrs and she said tat thanks to her friend for recommending the herbal stuff for her to eat... dun know why she trust her friend more than wat we said...

as for the confinemend food, actually planning to order for this week and even printed the order form but now on hold.. can do confinement at my own home but i dun like the idea of my inlaws coming in as and when lor.. when no1, they got keys and come unlocking the door as and when they like w/o informing... in the end, i always hve to lock up the rm door to BF as i dun know when they will be coming up.. my mil even wants to fight with CL on who to cook the pig trotters (OMG)... worse still, my mil gossip with the CL and the CL told my neigbours babyseater (also gossip queen) and went ard spreading ard the blk telling every1 why i dun want to let my mil to do confinement (all thanks to my mil for acting pity tat i dun like her cooking, etc and getting a CL to replace her).. really can't stand her.. the last straw came when she bought a group of her relatives to my house for visiting despite telling her tat my gynae asked me to stay away fr pp (bcos i got blood transfusion and need to fully recover before i comes into contact with pp)... she can't be bothered with my feelings and just want her relavties to see her granddaughter and let every1 carry her and flashing w camers tilll she satisfed... got so mad with her tat i cut short her visit... i can't imagine what she will do when no2 comes along.. she been trying to "brainwash" my girl on coming to stay w her and bringing her to school... arrugh... really feels like finding a hole and hide inside..

auroa,

did ur mum's friend been thro the same thing as ur mum?

since ur mum is open to u staying over at her place, mayb u just stay over lo. At least tat cuts the prob of ur inlaws coming as n when they like. then cont to cater for confinement food ba.

starfruit,

i heart itchy to get a new pouch that is more girlish! hahaha.

Auroa, ur situation quite tricky leh.. and i also dunno how to advise you. can u engage some helper(part time cleaner) during your confinement and cont with the catering so there is min your mum needs to do during your confinement?

Val, just buy lah.. hahah one of my fren told.. she say it was her last pregnancy, so she just bought what caught her fancy.. hahaha.

maybe u can sell off your 1st pouch and get the girly one. i have also seen lot of nice new fabric for pouches, very tempted too. but i bought over the bjorn synergy from a fren so now also trying to control a bit.

For the shoppaholics:

ON:

Kids and Babies sales up to 40%.

RL:

Babies sales for a limited period of time.

starfruit,

Ya! i will buy the pouch closer to date =P

I am aiming the one with the polka dots as I find it sweet but its nt reversible lo. Anyway, i wldnt be selling the previous pouch coz my hb can cont to use it as I dun think he wanna use the girlish one that I am planning to buy! hahaha.

Starfruit/Val

Yup. In fact of course good la then the poor gets the benefits cos they also very poor thing. For us mid income de, we are like in nowhere de lor... I hope they will soon revise these 2 things which I think more useful - CC leave & CC subsidy.

Val

I love online shopping too! I prefer to shop at real brand websites than those blogs. I had an unpleasant experience once from blogs (from SMH bulk purchase de), what I got was not what I see from the pix.. Haazzz....

starfruit

Heeheee, pouch so nice hor. Now, the pouch even have very trendy designs too, but price increased le. I lost mine, dunno why like cant find @ home liao. My hubby said I probably lent to someone. But I dun remember leh. Haz. So I will have to buy one new one.

auroa : maybe you can try to source for part-time helper.. doubt you can brainwash her le...

vv : ya lor.. thought there's additional paternity leave.. disappointed.. still want to increase on foreign worker levies...

oh ya.. my girl starts to avoid my mum, her dad and my maid coz they brought her to school.. she refuse to go out even if during the weekends.. now she prefers to stay @ home.. is it normal for her to behave this way?

vv,

ya. i love online shopping too...just ordered close to usd$200 for RL over the weekend for kor kor n meimei. damn shiok! nw looking forward to the arrival of the loots. i think sometimes those frm the direct website also the same - the color is diff frm the pics but the chances are v low la.

come come, join me to get a new pouch! hehehe.

Good morning..

Auroa - I think u can still opt to stay with your mom without her doing confinement for u. Hmm..U can engage day CL from agency actually.

If your mom is not comfy to help u wash and look after bb, don't force her. She might have her concern on her health which she doesn't want to highlight to u now and make you worried.

Split - good that you decided to take HPL. Pls rest well.

vv - maybe u can keep your maid for another yr until her passport expire then u see how lo..hopefully she doesn't play u out la. Is she going back for home leave? If so a bit risky..

Auroa

So if lets say yr Mom comes over to stay with you, your MIL come lesser or in fact dun 'dare' to step into your house? Your situation sounds a little same like mine when I had #1. She even questioned why I have to BF In the room and not living room when everyone else is at living room???!!!!!

Now, she totally washed her hands off my this pregnancy and I hope she continued to ban her hands into my affairs as well.

CNY already give her full face by greeting her. U know, she even brought a bottle of jellos to my boy's CC to ask teacher to distribute to all my boy's classmates. That stupid teacher (form teacher) even accepted it. I fed up & wrote a note in the teacher-parent comm book said, DO Not accept sweets/jellos/things from outsiders and pass to Ray. The form teacher had not signed yet.

val, i hve the same thinking too... not sure whether my mum will likes it... her friend din hve the illness... my mum said tat her family last time got medical hall and hve wide knowledge on herbal stuff... so she listen to her and take what she advised...

starfruit, i'm abit sian here after hearing wat my mum said to me... staying at own home doing confinement is best but not w the part on inlaws.. morever, my hubby will be overseas for a week and my inlaws sure will come everyday to "check" on me.. tat's what they did when my girl was an infant (stayed till nearly 10pm and still dun want to go back despite my girl and i wants to sleep liao)... my hubby will be away for 2 weeks overseas duties next mth... my mum at first said come over and stay w her but now changed her mind... sigh.... izzit women very fickle minded.. sigh...

vv : good that your maid's going to stay.. rite, better keep finger cross that she's don't play you out.. i'm also prayed that my maid don't last min tell me she's not going to carry on after she's aware that she can get better pay else where..

Dolly

Yap. So actually they all talk so much; in the end also no results on the budget... [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Oh my boy also the same thing. He started to tell the maid, he dun like her. So weird. Dunno issit cos #2 coming, so they behaved in weird ways?

Val

WOWW!!!! RL is one my fav! But hor, RL baby sizes are rather small leh. I find RL toddler sizes bigger abit. U know I had one RL 24M de polo shirt, now my boy coming to 4 liao, the shirt still very long for him leh. Hahahaaaa....

I want get new pouch leh. Where u be getting yours? I want get something sweet color. Hahahaaa...

Apple

I also hope she dun play punk too. I reminded her, do not talk to me about having HP & off days just becos I extended her. She said yeah she knows and even said her mom also wont like it and will scold her??!! Anyway, I asked if she needs to inform her mom that she is extending. She said no need. So she gives me the feeling that whatever reason/excuse she gave me for leaving earlier are just find excuses. She said she thought we dun like her to stay so asked her to leave before contract ends. I told her, If so - I wouldnt even offer her to extend and straight ask Agent come pick her liao. I told her Im never hard up for maids. Even if now am preggy, I can still do housework if I have to send her back straight on the spot. Then she like abit shocked. Hahahaa.. Anyway, I didnt give her any home leave too. She only requested me to bring her to dentist. I told her no problem; of course at her own expenses. I think should be ok ba.

Hows yr maid le??

apple, ya, i thinking of tat but now looking for daytime CL, dun know whether too late now... me also worried wat if i engaged for a CL and my mum changed her mind and said dun come over or otherwise... arrugh...

vv, sigh.. i did think of tat but my hubby actually said tat if my mum can comes and stay w us, next time he can ask his mum to stay w us... vomit blood, right.. if my mum really comes and stay w us, my inlaws sure everyday/every hrs comes...they love to play "host" lor... ya, my mil asked why i bf in the rm for so long while every1 is kept waiting in the living rm.. somemore can said tat can bf later and wait till every1 is gone then feed the bb... my jaws just dropped and i just directly told her tat u can do tat to yr child but not me and walked off... i dun think she knows wat a bb wants after hearing wat she said... so selffish to do it to an infant... i also hope my inlaws will "wash their hands off" for my no2 after wat i did to them during my no1 but hor, they really thick skinned.. i timed before... if i tell them off, for most 3 days, i wun see them and after tat, they will come back smiling at my door and pretending nothing happen leh... *faint*

vv, good tat yr maid is staying but also must mentally prepared tat she might play u out last min.. fr wat u wrote, the maid on the surface is staying but might change her mind later as she din even let her mum know (thought she listen to her mum).. i heard fr my neighbour before tat maid normally said will stay and once they go back before coming back to further extend their contact, normally they will not come back liao... got to hve backup plan...

btw, what pounch u gals refering to?
