Morning mummies,

Got up early coz of very painful braxton hicks on top part of tummy...jumped out of bed. Arggg..the muscles there refused to relax despite me practising the breathing techniques.

Here's my birth story:



6 July - went to see my gynae and he said i am 2cm dilated and cervix is paper thin.. So he suggested i get admitted that evening to induce.



Admitted myself to Mt A at 7pm, put on drip but contractions were bearable. So didnt ask for epi cos i scared later i use too many tubes since my est labour will take 12hrs as told by gynae.



11pm, gynae came and burst my waterbag. I tot it will be painful but actually only slight discomfort. The water didnt gush out, only flow out slowly bit by bit.



7 Jul - at 12am, pain set in and really unbearable! Every 5 min i get an intense contraction. So asked for epi.



1am, Epi done, thought will hurt but is almost painless. wad i dislike abt epi is it made my left leg totally numb and i kept shivering though i'm not cold. I didnt get 100% pain relief too. Still can feel some slight pressure and pain but bearable.



Started to vomit from 2am onwards. i think is part of the side effect..



Fully dilated at 6am... Just nice, my epi was used up and nurse said gynae dun wan me to cont in case i no feeling to push. Gynae came around 45 min later. Started pushing to get baby's head lower but i dun have much strength. Gynae had to use vacumm..



With the help of vacumm, i pushed hard whenever there is a contraction. in 4-5 pushes, baby is out at 7am! It felt like a huge poo stuck there and i had to pass it out haha..



i tot i will cry when i see my baby, but actually i was still in a shock and trying to digest the fact that this little baby came out from my tummy!



now trying to bf, but really very pain and only 2nd day and my nipples are sore and has broken skin... [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]



MIL came over last nite and carried the baby the moment she is wheeled in for the whole 3 to 4hrs, i dun like leh.. Scared bb used to it.. When bb sleeping in the trolley she kept patting her.. even i wanna BF she also want to watch.

haha.. yap one of my friend also nv count.. for me at the start I only make sure bb move everyday. its was until my 35wk my gynae ask me to count.. tat was only recently I start doing it...

yeah my MIL was the same, wanna watch me BF. even my SIL told her to give us some privacy but she continued to stare. and she keeps asking why the baby like this like that. she even asked my CL to cook a special dish and invited herself over to our place for lunch to eat it, when I'm not supposed to eat that particular dish because of confinement. i thought it was quite insensitive.

wat a nice morn and gotten a shock call from my mum indicating my younger sis is also preg...hahaha..wat a surprise to get when i just gotten up...



so happy tt my little boy will get another bb to play with at home and he will no longer be the only grandchild at my mum place...can also release the tot of my mum pampering him too much coz she will be super bzi looking after the smaller 1 in 9mths time...hahah..

Can I check for how wld one know if the waterbag has burst? Is it gradually (i.e. panty liner wet) or suddenly feel a gush of water flowing down?

 
mrslong - i think it can be either way? but i think if it's just water trickilng out gradually, it's easy to confuse it with discharge?

Another qns,

I remember some mummies said abt letting bb sleeping in the aircon room.. the room may be too dry... Can buy so call wat purifier (dunno spell correctly or not) so that the room will not be too dry right?? Wat is that??? Any pacific brand???

Breastfeeding: I am having such a hard time. Baby latch on properly but I still feel so painful when he suckle. It's sharp pain [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif] meanwhile I don't think anything came out for baby!

babycoco -- if bb is drinking, u can see the gulps down bb's throat.. its slow and rhythmic. if bb is jus latching for comfort, its normally at the nipple.. u can hear bb swallowing too

 
mrslong -- its warm, that would be quite alarming for u to take notice.. but dun worry.. since ur check ups are more frequent, ur gynae will check the water level. but normally, if its leaking, ur panty liner will be wet and clear.. if its a gush, then no need to explain liao la.. haha.. but not to worry since gynae will be checking on the water level every visit now..

 
Serene, my bb latches for about 20mins. I'm worried she's not getting enough. Probably not latching correctly.



Jaclyn, when I started breastfeeding, my nipples also very painful. But it gets better. I also didn't start producing milk till 5th day. Very heart pain to see my bb suckle & suckle knowing she's getting nothing. But handpg in there, it does get better.

ytd my bb gave me a headache.. i dunno what she want.. she kept making noises.. i turn her left or right she also dun wan.. checked her diapers but not wet.. and she suddenly wake up 1 hourly.. i fell asleep by her cot!



then when its time to latch her, i was too tired.. i latch her lying down on the bed.. and we fell asleep together after the feed.. and she slept soundly on my bed..



hubby say cause our bed got our smell... i very worried it becomes a habit and the cot will become a white elephant soon...

I arranged for infant care for mine.. Going to put her in Cherrie Hearts.. after subsidy cost $850 per month.



I don't know about your area, but when I started looking for one in April / May, most establised ones are fully booked already. The one I signed up with is totally new. They just got their license.

 
serene: my baby cot has become a place to store my bbgirl's stuffs liao - like dipaer changing stuff and moses basket lol. my hubby bought first year's air flow thingy where we lodge our bbgirl in- so she sleeps in between us. i personally find it easier for bfeeding in the wee hours of the morning.



babycoco: i sometimes find that my bb use my nipple as a pacifier as well! she usually suckles only for a while and only around the nipple - she also does this towards the end of almost every bfeed- think maybe it's a way of bonding ?

 
We are planning to let bb sleep in his own cot. Hopefully we wont waiver from this arrangement and ended up letting bb sleep on bed cos its very hard to wean them off the bed once the bb is used to it.

 
Cherry.sue, ya, ya, my bb also does the same thing towards the end of every feed. Last night, I pumped some milk and got my hb to bottle feed her. In the end she still wanted to suckle before she would sleep. Don't want this to be a habit.wonder what I can do.

 
babycoco: whoa even after being bottlefed! are you around when she's being bottlefed. i always hide when my hubby bottlefeeds her cos she wouldnt drink the expressed milk if she can smell me. lol.



maybe you should try hiding while your hubby bottlefeeds her. see if she still asks for the "pacifier"

am having the same problem with Airina, comfort suckling. sometimes i let her be, coz I read that it stimulates breastmilk supply.

 
true that bb can smell us.. haha.. and they can sleep better when they smell us... haha.. the other day, bb wants to latch on hubby even.. hahaha



as for the latch for comfort part.. i dun forbid myself doing that since it helps her to sleep better.. but i will not let it last more than 5 mins.. meaning, i let her feed.. until she full.. (i know cause she will be totally lembek aka soft).. but at times when shes still wide awake, i know she havent drink enuff so i will latch her on the other side and at the last part, i let her suckle for a while more before i unlatch..



growth spurt



baby will have their first growth spurt at their 7th - 10th day, normally will last for abt 2 days.. which i am going thru now! sigh.. she keeps drinking and drinking.. wake up an hour later and drink again.. grouchy and fussy.. then i went to do some research and found that she is actually having her first growth spurt..



next spurt will be at her 3rd week, followed by 6 weeks and so on...



so dont be discouraged if u think that bb is not drinking enuff.. its because bb needs more at their stage of growth spurt [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]
