(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

Jelly>> BTW, how did your gynae find out u're 1cm dilated?

Am seeing my gynae this Sat after the pilates, do I ask her to check if am dilated? heehe. Cuz lately I feel quite a bit of BH & feel my BB's getting kinda big le.

ica - i started to elevate my leg once i know i'm pregnant but the retention is still as bad... consumption of plain water also quite sufficient leh... also dun know why retention so bad???

sun_tan - emmm.... i heard from my friends that by doing post-natal massage can help to reduce the retention faster... esp to do during confinement period

junie

gynae did vaginal examination... i complaint i had backache and pelvic pain... so after the swap test, she did the VE and told me the good news

keropi

really? oh, one of my friends initially didn't have water retention until she stopped exercising upon gynae's advice. then she kena - her fingers and feet all swollen

oh but i dun hv backache or pelvic pain (only bad tailbone pain nowadays)...so maybe not yet dilated or something.

still will ask her if BB's getting too big for me or not...

water retention - must drink enough water when taking into account your diet too, e.g. if you take a lot of salty food, coffee, tea, caffeine etc, then need to drink even more water.

i'm quite the water fanatic..plus elevate my legs at work. so far *cross fingers* no water retention problems.

RE: BB's hiccups

Out of curiousity, does your BB has hiccups frequently? Mine does...one day can hv hiccups 2-3 times, heehe. I find it cute.

hi mummies,

I went for my gyn check up yest at MT E. Thank goodness, my appt was in the afternoon else the preggy me will be stuck in the waters.

I am now just one day away from Wk 37. Getting more and more excited. Gyn dun think that my bb will come next week which is gd news for me as my hubby is not ard. My hubby will only join me in SIN when I am in wk 38. I am trying to be less active now so that bb will pop only when dad is here. I will be super upset if I end up having to go through labour & delivery myself!

Hi mummies,I have popped... Can update my status

Name : Lervin 3.12kg 52cm head circmference 43cm

natuaral w/o epidural

will update my birth story later

Jelly, what dilated 2 cm means? Can you feel any difference before and after? In which week are you now? Please enlighten me.. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Actually now i'm in my 34th week but can feel BH often and i feel something pushing so hard near vagina. Is that means i may also dilated? If dilated can expect delivery soon? [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

juliiana,

wow congras! you are the 3rd jul mummy to pop. Ya salute u! natural without epi. Do post pic of your bb k.

Grace >> I still dun have cramps yet but feeling very very heavy at the pelvic area..issit a sign that baby's coming soon?

springleaf: no i did not do any postnatal massage but was able to lose all the pregnancy weight after 2 months. And my tummy went back to shape as well so i wont be getting a massage lady this time as well.

WRT water retention, I have very very bad swell on the legs ie calves, thighs and feet and now my fingers! I tried elevating the feet but i still get it. So sian! But all the water retention actually goes away once i delivered immediately, so quite amazing.

Juliana: Congrats! Salute to u for no epi!!

pris,

yah, if we feel very heavy and pressure there.. it means baby is trying to go into the birth canal. it depends on how far along..

First stage: dilation

There are several factors that midwives and clinicians use to assess the labouring mother's progress, and these are defined by the Bishop Score. The Bishop score is also used as a means to predict whether the mother is likely to spontaneously progress into second stage (delivery).

The first stage of labor starts classically when the effaced (thinned) cervix is 3 cm dilated. There is variation in this point as some women may have active contractions prior to reaching this point, or they may reach this point without regular contractions. The onset of actual labor is defined when the cervix begins to progressively dilate. Rupture of the membranes, or a blood stained 'show' may or may not occur at or around this stage

Uterine muscles form opposing spirals from the top of the upper segment of the uterus to its junction with the lower segment. During effacement, the cervix becomes incorporated into the lower segment of the uterus. During a contraction, these muscles contract causing shortening of the upper segment and drawing upwards of the lower segment, in a gradual expulsive motion. This draws the cervix up over the baby's head. Full dilatation is reached when the cervix has widened enough to allow passage of the baby's head, around 10 cm dilation for a term baby.

The duration of labour varies widely, but active phase averages some 8 hours for women giving birth to their first child ("primiparae") and 4 hours for women who have already given birth ("multiparae"). Active phase arrest is defined as in a primigravid woman as the failure of the cervix to dilate at a rate of 1.2 cm/hr over a period of at least two hours. This definition is based on Friedman's Curve, the gold standard for rates of cervical dilation and fetal descent during active labor. The Friedman curve likely represents an ideal, rather than an average, curve. This study does have limitations (e.g., assessment of cervical dilation is somewhat subjective), and as a result practitioners should use the Friedman Curve as a guideline rather than an absolute indicator of protraction and arrest.[8]. Some practitioners may diagnose "Failure to Progress,", and consequently, perform an unnecessary Cesarean. However, as is the case with any pre-emptive diagnosis, doing so is severely discouraged due to the extra expense and healing time involved with Cesarean operations.[9]

juliana : Congrats! You are number 3 here! Rest well meantime and we are here looking forward to your birth story and bb's picz! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Grace : My appt was changed to this afternoon. That means my 2pm should be available.. if u prefer that timing maybe u can call julie and change [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

After one week of steaks and many litres of milk.. I put on 1.5kg but bb only gained 150g nia!!! My bb gal only 2.46kg at abt 37 weeks!Doc said she is going to be a small baby...

AK,

you went today?

Ah, i shall call tomorrow morning.

At least you can sleep better tonight i hope since Dr Ang check already.

So mayb wait till 38 or 39 week for C-sect?

Grace.. Dr Ang was rushing to Mt Alv for delivery so I no chance to ask more questions. But I was sent to do CTG today coz bb not much movements for past few days. She said its impt to monitor baby's movement..and if got less movements.. better call and ask or go labour ward do CTG to check..

springleaf: breastfeeding works wonders! U will be amazed at how fast you slim down with total bfing! I lost 6kg immediately when baby was delivered with the placenta etc. Then after a month, I lost total 12 kg so i left another 2 kg to go for 2nd month. Breastfeeding is the way to go! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] So I don't really need the massage and I heard from my gf who delivered that she developed rashes from the herbs used by the massage lady and it was really uncomfy, so I chickened out too.

AtomicKitten: try taking durians?? I took lots of durian during the last 2 weeks for #1 and he put on 300gm each week! quite scary in the end he turns out to be big baby, so for this one I tried not to eat durians.

Juliana: congrats!!! Hope to see baby pics soon!

minibean : I got GD and gota prick my finger 6times a day.. i no chance to eat durians leh [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

but next week be my last week le..i very tempted to juz let go and eat!! Wow one month can lost 12kg!!! did u have to watch your diet as well?

Juliana: Congrats, and bravo for gg w/o epi!

Junie: My baby has frequent hiccups too, so I think it's natural?

Grace: Thanks for sharing such detailed info.

I went for my checkup today. Everything seems fine. Baby's at 2.5kg at 35 weeks. Gynae said weight is ok, but i was hoping she'd be 2.3-2.4kg. I dun want her to be too big also. She did a swab test for me. I wanted to do ve, but she asked me why I wanted that when I am having no contractions/ pains etc. She said it's very uncomfortable and it may trigger contractions, in fact. Now, I keep on telling baby to be good and stay ion for at least another 2 more weeks, cos gynae is flying off tmr and will only be back in two weeks time. Keeping my fingers crossed.

seems like a few of our gynaes are gg off for holiday at the same time. I wonder why is that, considering next week is the last week of school holidays.

hello ladies, this afternoon went to gynae appt.. did another VE check.. soo uncomfortable.. 2cm dilated.. but still no contractions felt.. baby's weight remains abt the same.. 2.8kg..

so doc discussed with us, suggested us to check into hospital tml, break the water bag to speed up the labour.. decide between go ahead or wait.. he was explaining if wait probably no progress.. because i dont seems to have contractions.. and waiting this week or next week the only difference is me and baby's weight..

so i decided to check-in tml.. suddenly wonder if is a right choice..

Haa.. was reading the june thread and realised that juliiana is actually a june mom..think she posted in the wrong thread. So our jul record is still at 2 moms who popped..

Grace >> Good read, thanks! I have a feeling baby will arrive next week tho, just praying that he'll wait till after 24th coz that's when hubby goes on leave = )

sorry to interrupt

I have 3 brand new pkts of Fitti premium 360 size M to let go at $11 each. Self collect or delivery in jurong/west area and a BN pack of pigeon nappy cloth at $13. (UP $29.90) Please email me [email protected] if keen Thanks

AtomicKitten, because i dunno what to expect liao.. baby good size now.. week 37 plus.. seems is more discomfort, more weight gain.. and nothing more.. i scare any bigger will end up c-sec..

rabbit

sorry, but ur doc is gng to break ur waterbag and then wait for contractions to kick in? erm, altho i am not a doc, but jts, a friend of mine had her waterbag broken naturally. her gyn also got her to wait for contractions to kick in and after 12hrs, no sign of labour in a sense. she went w emergency c-sect... so is ur gyn offering you oxytocin or drugs to induce the labour? if yes, then i think doable, if not, then it is a real waiting game...

Jellypurin. ya will have to be put on drip ah.. unless you are like later stages when admitted.. else sure have to put on drip.. especially for 1st timer..

sun_tan: i heard stretchmark is subjective. some have never applied creams and yet never get stretchmarks. My mom never had stretchmarks and i didnt have for my #1 too. hoping i wont get for this baby too.

rabbit: so excited for you! maybe you will be the 3rd mummy from jul thread to pop [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

fazzy: my gynae is away on 1 week holiday too so i am hoping nothing goes wrong when he's away. i definitely do not want to deliver by his buddy gynaes!

atomickitten: yeah i watched my diet during confinement. stayed away from carbo so i eat lots of meat and drink soup to increase milkflow which helps in breastfeeding. Its possible to lose that kind of weight if you bf. don't worry so much ok? but if you have GD, by right your baby would be quite big size? sometimes the scan weight is not accurate too.

Normally to speed up the contraction they will put drip.. KKH practiced that.

Tomorrow seeing my gynae kelly loi, hope she can really sit down and discuss alternatives for me if bb is too big before due date 22nd july 2010..

rabbit : Oic.. then juz go for it! Your doc should know what's best for you so dun worry! Quick quick go rest well tonight! We July MTB will be with you in spirits, Jia You![IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] You're probably going to be No. 3 here !
