Morning mommies, not sure if anyone experienced this. Everytime I expressed my BM, the milk from my right breast is always more than my left one by at least 50 - 80%. Is this normal? Can advise, thanks.

I've been looking after Bb since we came home. We sleep in same room. Hubby with elder son. So i've been having longest 5 h sleep at night. I don't ask hubby to help during wee hours unless no choice. So far didn't wake him up for last 5 days le.



Ann,

did u try gripe water? Massage? Cycling motion ? Tummp time also helps. Or rest him on your elevated legs such tt his legs r pushing against ur tummy. Get him to 'cycle' or kick/push ur tummy to fart pass wind. Or u can massage his tummy in clockwise direction

I think i maybe or could be the only odd one out here...cos i am a father instead of a mum...wahahaha. As i found this forum useful..and all the friendly mummy here to share exprience...i hope i am welcome here..(pai sey). My wifey is not really an internet person and me been kapo(which i wanted to play a part in the child development as well)...therefore decided to come in to join the forum...hehehehe



My wifey is currently doing her confinement with the help of my mum and the maid.Wanted to get a CL..however mum worry about how good CL will turn out...therefore she took the challenge and so far all are happy...



OK...here story for my 1st BB...Alpheus...



Baby was supposed to be meet the "parent" on 16 Jul but perhaps with all the good food(instead of just milk)..he decide to over stay...[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]



17 Jul: suppose to have normal check up as the previous check up show that the water level was healthy.Went to clinic at 1pm, the gyne did some test and told us that 1)due to not fully engage, 2)the bb is too big(3.65kg) and 3)the water level was too low...got to do a c-sect at 3pm. We are in total shock as not prepared (still planned a buffet dinner with in law on that night..hehehe)...finally..the gyne mentioned that we have to do the c-sect on 18/07 latest...so we managed to book the 1pm slot..meanwhile encourage my wifey to do all she want for the day...before Alpheus is born.



18 Jul @ 9am: went to MAH to do all the stuff...waiting for 1pm to arrive while doing all the necessary test.



18 Jul @ 12pm:Wifey is been push to get ready..while i also need to get ready as i was allowed to go into the OT to witness the process.



18 Jul @ 1am:As i went into the OT(wifey was push into the OT much earlier for epidural)..was kind of suprise that i can actually witness the whole process as i was having a "unblock" view..Meanwhile wifey due to nervous..was tearing. Trying to comfort her as well as not sure if i can take the bloody scence..hehehe



1:05pm:Start to hear all the equipment sound and saw the gyne started the c-sect...was thinking...that luckily i was allowed and i opt to join my wife to witness the process.After all it a sacred process and wondrful exprience to go through with yr loved one..[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]



1.09pm:starting to hear my gyne to ask the nurses to push my wifey tummy..(while i saw lots of blood for the cutting as well lots of equipment been use)...starting to get blur and lost...wondering what i can do to help...



1.10pm: With just 2 pushes...before i know what going on...i hear bb crying voice....and i was finally a DAD...happen so fast lor...i still having mix feeling...hoping it not pain for my wifey..while hoping nothing happen to my bb...hehehehe..



1.15pm: Was busy taking picture of my baby(hehehehe)while comforting my wife...and i even got the gyne to pose with me, my wife...and of cos..the lead for the day...Alpheus. And there...he was born weighing 3.65kg, at least 53cm long...(happy)

Ling: Wah! We have the same EDD and I'm also waiting for my BB... nowadays my leg the nerve very pain.. on/off got pain like leg weak weak can't walk for long 1hr the most will need to rest.

shann -- hai.. i no longer know whats sleep liao.. hahahaha.. i only know to nap for 30 mins and wake up to prep her next feeding... lol..



phy -- its a mild steroid cream. erm.. it writes there.. my friend told me to go to PD to get their med which will cure faster so i brought her there before the bb shower.. and yup.. its supa effective.

I think my boy also have some heat rash...but i try to use a fan to blow ard his sleeping area(not directly)...hopefully will not get worst...if not got to ask u for advice on where to get the cream liao..sigh

I just got my maid for 2 months...so far she is ok. I find the agency attitude is quite good as the boss will travel personally over to do all the interview.

Ya, PD will prescribe mild steroid.. it works fast but just use sparingly and when necessary.. Prolong use can thin the skin.

ha maybe for a total breastfeeding mother, a more crucial question is how much does a BB feed in a 24 hr time frame..

 
Ceres - iwill be delivering at TMC and doc said at most can be 2 days overdue (due to sugar level). For those with normal sugar level, can overdue for 1 week. Resting at home and talk to baby hehe....



R u gonna give birth naturally? I hope to give birth naturally.

my bb is on total breastmilk...I feed him when he demands. That is about every 3 hourly. Now he is going through a growth spurt , so he feeds more and its almost every 2 hrs.



BBliss: To help with that, you can try to pump less on the side that produces more. Meaning, dont empty that breast. OR.. you can pump more on the side that produces less.

 
Ling: Me will deliver @ KKH but gynae only say after tmr then discuss on whether to induce BB. My mom said if gonna induce she want me to hang on and go hm check the chinese calendar & discuss with her first.

 
Ceres: I'm seeing my gynae on Thurs and see what he says. Dunno when the show will come....

I already started leave last Thurs and stay at home. Painful to walk but i try walking to get breakfast so as to exercise.

 
Ling: i started ML on 19 Jul alrdy! Hah... been staying at hm and rest like nobody business. On/off go out nearby walk walk & eat desserts..

The most i can walk is 1hr after that will be tired and sometime pain kicks in.



Think now only left 3 or 4 mommies waiting for BB popped.

My wifey tried BM initally, realise bb was a big eater...always not enough and he sucks really hard..(until my wifey nipple bleed), therefore we got no choice to take FM while letting my wifey recover before trying again. Meanwhile, she will express out her milk to give to bb as well.

 
Jaclyn-- I tried that too but my breast will engorge after that. So I got no choice but to empty both breast.



Sean-- oh your wife also experience that too!! I just called the LC from Mt E, she said it's ok with it as long as the total volume is at least 80ml total. I have total 180ml each pump. How about your wife?

 
i think age of bb also plays a part. my bb when out only 38 wks, so milk supply is okay for her vs for babies who are out when they are 40wk, 41 wks, the intake will be different on top milk supply does not come in till day 3.



my #1 was out 39 wks+, i remember i had hell trying to go total bf. now #2, is much better and i have a lot of excess to store as her intake is smaller.

 
bbbliss-that already very good ah...my wife now only producing ardound 40ml..still on the lesser side. Wonder if it cos she is c-sect and not natural birth that y the BM is not coming yet?

 
bbbliss: me lor. i can pump 40-60ml on my left and right breast max only 20ml. Dunno why also. and left breast gets engorged faster..



also, when i latch bb on the breast that produces lesser milk, it is painless. the other one is always so painful! i also want to see LC but been calling Parentcraft for days, no one answer!

 
Jsmine: I do feed him Gripe water but same like you lo, I will mix in water to give him. But he never finish the water one so not sure if still effective or not.



I dun even wanna think #2 now. I just wanna concentrate on #1. Dun dare to think too far.



Sillyhp: Ya.. that's what I am doing now too. When I pump milk and Kayden is not sleeping, I will ask my maid to pay attention to him while I pump my milk. Only pick him up if he keeps crying.



I do use gripe water but mixed in water to give. I give him tummytime, he dun like. Hai.. really dunno what to do with him.

 
sean, i am on c-section. BM came in on day 3-day4. initially, was colostrom.



i drank lots of fluids and rest well . helps with bm production.

 
mummies with busted nipples , medela breast shells help heaps with sore nipples, when u wear bra, as its painful (grazing against the fabric) and moist will not help. with the breast shells, plus nipple cream helps to ventilate the nipples , aid in healing.

 
hi all. would like to check with all mummies smgtg. I'm currently on total express breastmilk for my baby (born on 19 July). However, till today, I can only manage to pump the most 50ml of breastmilk from both sides.

Any mummies buying enfalac fm milk?

Bulk purchase per tin cost $39.50 collection at west.

I cannot breast feed temporary due to anti biotic doctor gives to cure my throat infection.

 
Sean & Sweetkiss-- drink more fluid. My CL boils fish bone soup for me everday to boost my milk flow. Initially I only have about 80ml each pump. Now it's 180ml on average. I only pump 4 times a day. At night I don't wake up to pump. I pump after my breakfast about 9plus with 450ml yield.



Pls rest more and drink lots of fluid. It really helps.

 
bbliss: ohmygosh 450ML!! Thats alot!! No wonder you always experience engorgement! For me, i try to pump less now.. only try n pump once a day.. the rest i'll just wait patiently for my dear son to wake up and feed. Sometimes quite hard esp when breasts feel very full. But bcos i have no more storage space in my freezer (full of confinement food .. sigh).. so I rather not pump out so much then must throw away so sayang!! Hope to be able to "regulate" my breasts in a way that I will always have milk for my son but never too much extra ...



babycoco: Yes my maid is a god-sent!!! I cannot do without her man. I can give you the agency but they are a Filipino agency (meaning the boss is also from Philippines), therefore they ONLY have Filipino maids. You must specify to them that the maid must have experience in newborns. This agency specializes in elderly and newborns. They are located beside changi hospital so I was recommended to them by the nurse @ changi hospital when my grandma was warded for shingles sometime ago.

I really love my maid!! Cant do without her. Sat night I went to watch zhou jie lun, and when I came back home (midnight), i am so surprised that my maid was awake and waiting for us while watching over the bb.. (while my MIL was sound asleep duh).

mommies with milk supply prob: Just be patient and drink more soup/hydrate yourself! Papaya with fish soup is really good!!

if ur bb is latching fully, u cannot calculate how much he is drinking.



1. feed on demand



2. try to latch for at least 20 mins each then bb will be getting the hind and fore milk



3. bb has at least 6 wet diapers everyday



4. poo poo is yellow for TBF bb and if its green, means bb is not getting the complete set of hind and fore milk



for sore nipples, get ur wife to apply her breastmilk on her nipples. its very effective for me. nipples is getting seasoned and will sore. but it will be ok once seasoned. mine took about 3 days. i bear the pain and let her continue latching and applying bm on nipples.

 
oh ya.. growth spurt is normally arnd



1. 7 - 10 days old

2. 3 weeks old

3. 6 weeks old



and so on until bb is 1 year old

u can ask ur wife to go to kellymom webby to read more.. it will help a lot..



relax, we need to keep latching to signal our body to produce. supply = demand. try to pump if not latching so that body knows u still need milk. if not milk supply will drop and stop.

 
Jaclyn-- u are right. My freezer is now full of BM and confinement food. Luckily my confinement is ending next Wed so I can clear the food and just store my BM.



Actually I had a hard time latching my son. He is always very impatient and refuse to suck. LC said my nipple is too short for him to latch and advise to use nipple shield. So now, finally managed to latch on. But still quite tough when my son is too hungry. He will twist & turn his head till the milk is all over his face. Sigh!!! Can't calm him when he is damn hungry.

 
bbbliss: Same... i also fight with my son all the time. Wonder why a newborn baby can have so much strength in his neck to twist n turn and unlatch himself. He is hungry but he will unlatch and then I have to latch him back all over again. Sometimes he even cry whenever i unlatch him due to wrong latch. But I always say to him.. no choice baby, mommy has to relatch you else my nipple will suffer and I can no longer feed you! My mom say talking to your baby like an adult actually works =D

 
Serene:..hehehe..i am an anxious dad wor...so must also learn from mummies like you all so as to ensure that my wifey will not be of too much of rest. The issue is that Alpheus suck so hard until her nipple already bleed(both side), she endure for 3 days...but i get her to stop as can start to feel she also under stress for the pain and not having enough milk.



So what she is doing now is to express milk(while letting her nipple to recover)..which only 40ml per express. We will mix with FM for bb..which he took about 90-100ml per feed now.



He poo poo around 6-8 times a day, yellow and formed...abit mushy.



So our plan is to express out the milk...(while trying to see if the milk volume can increase), supplement with FM and while waiting for my wifey to recover (until not so painful) before we go to BF again...hopefully all will go well...i am a supporter for BF as well...[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

 
Jaclyn: yes yes..i totally agree with what u mentioned...For my wifey case, the inital latch was wrong, that why the bb hurt her nipple till bleed..(heart pain)..but when i start to be at their side (or even my wifey) speak to the little one...to tell him to coordinate and help us with it...he will actually do it right!hehehe.

jaclyn: hahaha...i also had this prob with my boy when he is super hungry...he will twist n turn his head with his mouth open big big trying to catch the nipple...



i will normally calm him down by squeezing some BM on his lips then tap his cheeks to the nipple size n latch him on..



most of the time, i will fed him til he Zzzz n poo then unlatch..



sean: mine also 90 - 100ml at 2weeks old now...n in the morn feed, he can take in 1 n a half breast of milk with a 60ML FM..tt's super kong bu for a bb like mine..feed til pocket gt hole..(lucky BM is free)



starting to latch is really painful..start with short latching (like 5mins per breast then slowly increase) as milk supply is nt alot, if not sure bled coz nth to come out liao yet bb still sucking hard on the breast.



mine starting also blister coz he suck too hard..

 
bbbliss: OMG, tt's alot of BM loh...i also want leh...i trying to TBF him, he can empty a hard breast until become soft like jelly loh(sometimes 1 and a half), totally nth to pump for him n store at times.



n my normal express out is 140ml for both sides..quite little i think..

 
Actually our nipples not suppose to hurt when we r latching.. bcos they are supposed to take in the aerola and not just the nipple. Our nipple is supposed to be at the back of their mouth and not them sucking on just the nipple which will cause bruising.



See.. I know all this BUT its damnnn frustrating and hardwork trying to get him to latch properly. Having to catch him when his mouth is wide open also not easy.. cos somehow his hands always in the way!! So most of the time i just aiyar... chinchai la .. but end up I suffer. Whenever he latches correctly, its like strike jackpot for me.. im damn happy lor. Then I hope he dont unlatch himself. Praying for my nipples to toughen up sooner!



Btw, I use the pigeon disposable breast pads even at home.. it helps take away the discomfort of my clothes/bra chaffing on my sore nips. mommies that have sore nips can try [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]



lasery: my dear, 140ml is very good already.. don b so hard on urself! Whenever I can fill up the whole medela milk bag (about 150ml), i am very happy liao! Dont forget our babies still few weeks old only wor.. :]

 
sean -- try letting her drink more fluids n supplement with fenugreek. dun b anxious.. the supply will increase gradually.. alvin is also a super dad now.. n a confinement man lol



relax... give her body some time. actually i din wanna stress myself up. so i only do latchin n so far only pump 5 times for milk standby. as long as i dunno how much i produce n jus feed on demand.. i feel more relax n trust my body more

 


Lasery:140ml is alot liao ah...i also agree..mine is a big eater...somemore he is juzt 8days old...i think we are feeding him 8-10times a day...that y i joke to my wife to better produce more milk..if not the "hole" will be too big...and i told my bb each time that i am going to pack him to work with me..to earn "milk powder $" and he will give me those weird look..|||-_-



Jaclyn: understand your feeling and happiness on the right latching...cos it happen to me and wifey...everytime when he do it right and my wifey not so painful...like strike 4D 1st prize..wahahaha
