I read that bigger babies need smaller float cos their neck longer.. small babies need the large ones cos their cheeks fat fat and neck shorter. No need buy tape lah, measure with string and then use ruler to see how long the string is.

Hee hee I stay near Buangkok MRT, got 24hr NTUC wor :p

Rayanne fell frm the bed!!!!

该死mummy!! I put her on the bed while I keep the clothes in the wardrobe. She was fine so I tot shun bian check mail a while. Jed is using the large neck float. Fits him very well, no gap. I used it on Josiah too though nt as fitting, can see gap. e one I bot looks exactly the sane as e ones from Itsy's link. I go to Sembawang Shopping Centre quite often so if u need me to help you buy den jus sms me. But it doesn't comes w handpump which I find it not necessary,

<font color="aa00aa">Itsy</font>

I'm using California baby SPF 30 sunscreen.

SPF30 sunscreen blocks 96.6% of the UV radiation. On the other hand, an SPF15 sunscreen will block out approximately 93% of the UV radiation. So a SPF 15 sunscreen is sufficient for few minutes here and there in the sun. But for swimming, you will need @ lest SPF 30 &amp; above as it's more water resistant.</font>

Itsy and Jenifur
Wah... sit on sand and play??? I'm just terrified the boy will start to put it into his mouth leh. He's already managed to squeeze in 6 fingers...

But in all the cases mentioned, did u gals get neck floats for ur babies or just carried them into the water?

<font color="0000ff">Gerald</font>,
To share our experience in introducing waterplay (pool and beach) to our #1. We are those type who believe that we should let babies play in the water WITHOUT a float. So we never bought a float and my son never uses one. We are okay with both pool and beach, but more on pool cos it's more convenient for us :)

First time in the pool was a trial class with Aquaducks. We found that useful as we learned some tips on how to play with babies and how to guide them in the pool. The trial was free, and at the end we didn't sign up for the class cos hubby thought he can do an equally good job (and he is).

After the trial we brought him to the swimming pool once a week or every two weeks. We started a bit late though, when he was 7 months. He started crawling then, so we let him crawl and explore on his own in the toddler pool. He learns not to scare of water that way. And hubby would carry him and move to the deeper water and let him kick the water. Later on, when he started to walk at 10 months, he walked in the pool by himself and learned that he couldn't go to the deeper water, and hubby would help him with that. Also immersed him totally, including his head, under the water, he is okay with that, and for a few times, hubby threw him into the water, he managed to float up and not scare at all. He is very good with water now, I would say, but after 1 year plus now, it's still waterplay, and it's still not getting close to "swimming".

For the beach, our tactic is about the same as Jenifur. First is sand play, then let him take the lead. After a few times to the beach, he wanted to go to play with water. Again, that's after he started walking. Most of the time, though, he is interested to play with the sand than the water, and we never forced him.

This was at Pasir Ris Park when my son was "swimming" in the sea when he was 18 months:

Alamak! Should have bought the sunscreen previously, now have to order and wait till it gets delivered b4 I can bring Ian to swim :/

<font color="119911">Gerald</font>
My parents were really gan chiong and worried that Ian will eat the sand but i tot more impt to let him experience the texture of the sand and aiya... heck lah, a bit of sand b/w his toes.. and gum wouldn't kill him :p hahha Just be careful lor.

Anyway, I really enjoys her blog.
Check out her entry on 6th Jan..

<font color="119911">Rach</font>
Rach, like this is not the first time u dropped Rayanne wor. Better be more careful since she seems to be developing v fast, u never know when she'll start crawling off the bed.

<font color="119911">Jul</font>
My hubby is also on half day leave today, we're going to buy bak Gua later. Hope won't have to q too long.

<font color="119911">mamato6</font>
Thanks! The blog really has lots of useful info.

<font color="119911">First Aid</font>
I'm considering attending First Aid course for children. Anyone has recommendation or idea where I can do that? I'm so clueless and being the main caregiver, I think I better learn some basic first aid now b4 Ian gets more mobile.

Boo. Starting my 4th day of work in 1hr's time. Was so tired by the time i got home last night, fed my girl and fell asleep with her til 12, wake up eat dinner or rather supper lol

Proud to say my girl is taking the bottle well~ taking NUK bottle better than Pigeon's! So happy. But my girl got the wrong sleep association leh- sleep in sling. And they (Empress &amp; Dowager) can only feed her most of the time when she is in the sling and out of the house. haha

rach: hope your girl is ok.. think the most green poo poo~

swimming: i heard 6mths old then can bring them to public swimming pool ah? No including those hwa xia type.

Jul, itsy, Gina> thanks for asking..Rayanne still looks n behave as normal now...
THINK she didn't fell head down.. Prob her limbs touhed ground 1st..

Itsy> ya Lo.. 1st time was when I was abt to latch her and she wriggle n hit her forehead against my Wooden sofa lightly,, but that knock has left a blue black line on her forehead for the past 4months.... :'(

this time was pure carelessness.. Must learn the hard way!!!
Now I will NEVER leave her on bed alone... Used to be doing that all along. Now it really happened!!!! Urgh!!!

Thank God she's fine else I really die... Sigh...

<font face="Comic Sans Ms"><font color="0000ff">Jul</font>

Dun underestimate e size of e cereal. I'm still using e 1stt tin. But prob bcuz I give more puree den cereal bah. Jed is taking 4 x 2 oz cubes of puree + 2 tablespoon of cereal.

Oh... u gng to give Sam carrot huh?? It needs a lil more handling if it's nt organic. Lightly scrub e carrots under running water w brush &amp; don't use e steaming water to thin e puree. Make sure u remove all e skin prior steaming.

<font color="aa00aa">Mamato6js</font>

I followed this lady's blog too.. so she's a fellow SMH mummy. I gotten several toddler menu sample from her too.

<font color="0000ff">Gereal</font>

Jed was not even interested in the sand when we brought him tere last mth. He prefers to "admire" the scenery. I agree w Itsy tt abit of sand wun hurts... just hv to be more alert.

<font color="aa00aa">Kam</font>

Seem like we do agree w lots of stuff ya... I didn't believe in floats in e past but now CANNOT. w/o float, I can forget bout bringing them to swim... cannot hold all 3 in e water. Now w floats, I can actually manage them alone in e water. #1 &amp; #2 can "swim"/float fairly well w e arm float but #2 still needs to hold on to my hand @ times. Now w Jed on neck float, I can just drop by e pool as &amp; when I like.... dun hv to wait for DH
happy.gif

<font color="0000ff">Itsy</font>

I do hv excess stock for sunscreen from my recent BP but only will be in end of the mth.
http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/messages/581296/3559003.html?1264481349

TMC has 1st aid training programme, you can call parentcraft to find our more. Prob other hospital shld hv too. Alternative is Inspire Mum &amp; Baby http://www.inspiremumbaby.com/inspirebabydetails.asp?no=50

<font color="aa00aa">Gina</font>

Not true lah.. I started my #1 &amp; #2 when they are 2 to 3 mths old in public pool. Dun forget tt they hv been "swimming" in our womb for almost 9 mths leh. Guess e only concern is germs/virus which is unavoidable.. U bring yr bb to shopping centre or any where else also will gana germs rite

<font color="0000ff">Rach</font>

Just monitor her for 24hrs.. if she appears alert &amp; normal den it's ok. Dun leave her on e bed anymore lah.. it's too dangerous. U shld either leave her on e cot or playmat.. nv on bed alone. And hor.. dun tink building a wall using bolster &amp; pillows will help hor. Our baby r v amazing.. they will conquer tt "wall" v soon. My gal ever fell despite e "wall". But thank god.. our mattress are all place on e flr &amp; it's parquet flooring so nt painful. She still can laugh when I run to pick her up.

<font color="aa00aa">Maybe we can have a swim date for all e babies ya???</font></font>

Jenifur,
Hehe, great to find a like-minded mum and an experience mum like you :)

Now that you have 3 kids, I am sure the floats would help. We only have 2 kids, so we can still handle 1 each. But then, we haven't started #2 on swimming. Cos we are taking a break for #1 also due to his sensitive skin, his PD advised to stop swimming and going under hot sun for a while. Maybe after CNY bah, should let my girl goes to the pool.

<font color="119911">Jenifur</font>
Can I have a tub of the sun screen? Thanks! How much is it?
Thanks for the link!

<font color="119911">Swim Date</font>
Yeah! But my bb dun have a neck float, does that mean I have to go into the water too... mmm.. wonder if I can still fit into my swim suit..(Can't even think of wearing my bikini anymore)

itsy, jul, princess...i also stay at Sengkang...can i join u all too when there's gathering at compasspt?

itsy, think we very near to each other, me staying at buangkok mrt that side too, blk 275D..hehe

I feel that i got more time to surf the forum while i m working. I dont hv such a luxury when takingcare of my baby at home during the maternity leave..

swim date

hehe sam's gonna turn 6 mths on mon. shall 'remind' hubs that pd said he can go swimming now!

hua xia

hub's colleague went to check out the tubs. she said she saw that the walls n bottom of the tub are really scum-my n algaeish. guess it's trye that they may change water but they dun scrub the tubs

jenifur

how long has ur cereal lasted?

umm.. i dun intend to give organic. 1) no $$ 2) think as long as i'm careful.. can't be over-protective? 3) my bm also not organic, so just organic fruits n vegs like no pt? 4) non-organic ones can get mil to buy haha

itsy, shirley
then we r very nearby each other too.. i'm at the quartz.

itsy
u getting lim chee guan bak kwa? can i tompang u to buy then i get from u since we stay so near?? hehe

swim date
can have swim date at my condo pool leh... hehe...

arrhh.. i need new swim suit too... doubt i look gd in bikini now even if i can fit into it. :p

Thanks for all the tips on swimming. Guess I'm a bit kancheong la. Going to Phuket in May and will be bringing Marc along.

Great idea on meetup at SK. Eh... why dun include the Serangoon peeps as well? I'll tag along if you gals dun mind la.

itsy...sure sure sure...then can take pics for all the mummies and babies..must be very fun!

milkway..ya..swimming at ur condo pool is a great idea!! hope we will have it one day...i would be v v happy if i can fit into my old swimsuit now..but i doubt i can. Cant even fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes...my hip and tummy expand so much,,sigh!

jul,
regarding organic versus non-organic ... let me share my experience with you. for #1, i also thought i will go the non-organic route. so the first tin of rice cereal i bought for him was from nestle. then as he ate and ate, we realized that the eczema on his face was aggravated. no choice we had to switch over to an organic brand that was "gentler" for his skin. also i find that non-organic brands (nestle is the only one i ever tried) are artifically sweet. when i drop bits of it on the table top, the ants will all swarm towards it. in comparison, when i drop bits of healthy times brown rice cereal on my table top, the ants don't even care about it. as for cost, the cost difference for a tin/box of rice cereal is really not too much. cos a tin/box can last you 2-4 weeks depending on how often your baby eats. the cost will only escalate if you decide to go the full organic route and get only organic cereal, puffs, biscuits, raisins, milk etc.

bbq98
did your PD had any concerns abt your boys not drinking well? but they're putting on some weight just not as much? tomorrow i'm gonna go down to my PDs to weigh my girl again. hopefully there's some weight gain. i got new bfree plus bottles for my girl, i think they help abit better compared to the avent i was using previously. the teats are softer and she's drinking faster. maybe u might wanna consider trying?

jenifur
wah... jed really like to eat his cereal. he so good boy, takes big spoonful! my girl i think each time takes half that amt. and is a slow eater! most of the time halfway thru, the cereal turns cold already!

milkyway
i got the bigger size float for my girl.
happy.gif

gerald
i've brought my girl swimming to both pool and beach. well, not really swim in the beach lah, i think not advisable coz of the waves, play play sand and dip dip feet in water is ok. think my recommendation is perhaps shd start with the pool first? not so 'scary' for baby because beach got waves mah! oh, and another thing is...remember to not only apply sunblock but also some insect repellent thingy..if not later will kanna bites from sandflies. u can see my FB photos of our recent trip to bintan.
happy.gif
my girl totally enjoyed. but oh boy! it is really quite tiring for the parents. hehe...

kam
very nice pictures of your boy at the beach! when my girl can crawl steadily, i will bring her to the beach again.

mamato6js
that blog is good... have bookmarked it.

swimdate
sounds good! but me only concern abt how to bath the baby. but it'd be so cute to see all the baby together swimming with their neck floats. hehe...

high pitch squealing
these few days my girl has learnt by herself how to squeal and scream very louding in high pitch tone. i'm really getting a headache!!

Jen -- no worries about waiting =) Have posted in your CB BP thread if you still have stock for Shampoo &amp; Body Wash: "Calming" 19 oz and sunscreen?

rachel -- aiyo! poor thing! next time keep your eyes on her coz you never know what they going to do next!

kiki -- yaya, wondering how to bathe them after swimming. no tub ley.

My gal also screams very very loudly. I got a shock when she screamed out loud when her pacifier dropped in public place. She also like to grunt to show her dissatisfaction and to gain attention when everyone is busy. Dunno where she learn all these man...

Pamelia -- I was at TPY last evening. I peeped into your shop but you not there ley. It was aroung 10pm. Saw your husband though. Wow ur salon is still crowded at such a late timing!

bernice
actually no tub is ok, provided both parent can enter the toilet to bath the baby, coz 1 needs to hold and the other will wash. i think 1 person hard to handle without a bathtub!

Jen> ya never dared to put liaoz... Thank God Angel kept her safe.. Hee...

How do we know if baby is allergy to certain food??
Rayanne's rashes worsened these few days.. Dunno why..
Not sure if it's due to happy bellies brown rice cereal but unlikely rite??

It's ard neck n upper chest area.. Many red dots...
Yest her face have also.. Red dots..
I applied dermaplus given by ex-Pd n it subsided alot today...

Swim date:

I wanna join in too!!!
Milkway, let me know if it takes Place!!
Swimming in ur condo pool will be so nice!!

Bring Rayanne in her sexy bikini!! Lol!!

rach
dun think its the happy bellies. i think brown rice suppose to be non allergic. could be other things...maybe her toys or saliva? glad to hear she's ok after the fall. how high is your bed? i think i got to make my girl sleep in her cot more now, but problem is she's gotten so used to sleeping on my bed during daytime naps. but i always make sure i can see her from my video monitor.

Kiki> my bed normal height.. Using only the divan bed.. Not that high.. Thank God.. But I think she break her fall with her hands so face on her fists.. I heard 2thud so must have hit something before landing...

Oh ya.. Rayanne is also squealing at high pitch lately... When she cry too long n nobody carry her, she will actually scream in frustration!!

kiki,
Thanks :)

If you let your girl sleep on your bed, make sure you place pillows around her. See her from the video monitor no use leh, I mean you would have enough time to run in and save her meh?If your girl started to flip already, you can never know which day she will just roll and fall off the bed. Better play safe!

<font color="0000ff">kiki</font> Kimberly on milk and cereal strike, huh? oh dear...PD should be able to advice I hope, but she still looks very cheerful hor....ya, Kate SHRIEKS! sometimes i thought she's crying but when i go to her cot she shrieks and give you that gummy smile...duh!

<font color="0000ff">rach</font> aiyo! Rayanne is sooo mobile hor...I agree with <font color="0000ff">sandwich</font> fat babies (like mine) is SLOW, can only do the 90deg flip, can't even flip to belly yet....but i do hope she will grow up pretty
happy.gif
hehe...

kam
yep, i always surround her with all my pillows and bolsters no matter what. right now, she can flip onto her belly but only 1 way, meaning doesn't know how to flip back to her back. once she can do both ways, i will not put her on my bed already.

paige
kimberly on milk strike but cereal she will take. but also not that much..i use the similac scoop abt 1 scoop only, i think that equates to abt 1 tbsp? i'd help u with posting your bottles for sale. why dun u prepare the 'advert' and i can help u to post, u PM to me k? but leave an email so the buyers can contact u directly.

but but, i got no idea hwo much it cost -_-

Michelle..can imagine you must be worried now...hope he can get well soon! His infant care still allows him to go to the centre when he's sick? Is there a "nurse" there to take care of sick baby? When i was at my baby infant care centre, there are babies who are sick too, got flu. So, the nurse will be the one to feed them medicine, take their temperature etc.
