Hi mummies, LTNC.
my boy got high fever last Sun and diagnosed with UTI and warded in Hospital for 3 days 2 nites... Luckily my boy's fever gone off within 1 day. but my poor baby kanna poked w needles so many times, 2-3 holes EACH on his left & right hand and the senior doc finally found a vein on his foot & insert in the "needle" for the injection of antibiotics thru the blood veins. I almost want to scold + strangle the docs/ nurses who poked so many holes on his hands and still can't find his veins & made my bb cry non stop for at least 20mins.

KK hospital is a super bad choice.. : (
stupid mummy me no experience and chose this hospital..sigh. Shld have gone to private hospital. Think my bb traumatised by all this.. somemore the nurse still can tell me, your bb cry no tears one ah?

On the day of discharge.. i told my bb that we going home, he was so happy that he kept flapping his hands up and down. : )
also bought home lots of medicines for him to take for ~2mths.. sob sob.

dunno y he got fever again today. : (
may bring him to see his PD for 2nd opinion and overall check... trust his PD rather than those bunch of understudy docs/ docs at KK hospital.

my boy has been rejecting my FBM...
seemed like i got to throw all my stored FBM cos he doesn't want to drink.. sigh sigh.

~flower~
ya.. my bonuses & increment also affected... my increment even lesser than urs & somemore last yr was pay freeze. When i commented tat my bonus v little.. one of my v good colleagues replied.. you got 4 mths break leh! -_-'''

Feel sian when saw others got promotion.. if am not pregnant last yr, will be promoted in Jan i think... hv to work extra hard this yr for promotion loh..

On Diapers
wondering if any mummies here use Fairprice brand diapers? briefly read thru some of the old posts, see alot of other brands. am using fairprice diapers for my boy.. cheap & good for day diapers. Doesn't leak as well even if my boy poo alot.

Mummies
What's the longest your baby has not poo poo???
My gal has not pooed for 5 days liao. Alot alot of gas thou. But she is feeding normally and looks totally fine. Just wondering how long i should wait before bring her to see doc coz i read that it's quite normal for breastfed baby to stop pooing for a few days

By the 3rd day, think you have to let your baby poo poo...

You should try feeling the baby's tummy, see if its too hard...cos my baby gal has no appetitie if she didnt poo poo by 3rd day.

I'm using Eco brand...didnt dare to use Fairprice cos my gal's buttock is very sensitive... (huggies: also have rashes).

Now she's using Pampers during the night and Eco during the day...Pampers is expensive $31 per pack (68 pieces)...Eco only $10.90 per pack (58 pieces) so far so good.

Melissa,
So sorry to hear that. Hope he is doing well now. Last time my friend's son also got UTI, she said fever comes and goes for a few more days before it got stable. You have to monitor very closely, to see if he is as active as usual. Ya, I would go to a PD to have a peace of mind also, esp that you don't feel comfortable with those docs/nurses at KK. You take good care, ya.

Kris,
I thought TBF can afford not to poo for a few days, maybe even up to 10 days? BM is easily to digest, so if she drinks just the right amount everyday, absorb everything, so nothing comes out the other end lor, make sense? But if you are concern, bring her to a doc.

Melissa,

My son also diagnosed with UTI end of November and he has been taking antibiotic everyday. We went back to KKH for follow up and thank God, his kidney structure is normal and now we are waiting for end of March functional test. Hopefully his case belongs to one time off. Hope your son will be fine too.

Jul> think I'll order my own ON la.. Cuz ordering kids also.. Half half here n there very mafan.. Anyway the prices are really pretty slashed n I got 10% code also.. Hee..

Thanks...

Oh my gal luvs the kitty tights & long socks. Let me know if u got more girlish design ya

Kris

Jed's record is 7 days w/o poo when he's on TBF. Now started him on cereal, he poos daily. There's no "normal" number or schedule when comes to bowel movement — only what's normal for your baby.

And hor constipation doesn't necessary means nt poo-ing for days, baby who poo daily but hard & dry stool, also consider to hv constipation.

Sometimes I will jus massage Jed or do exercise which helps bowel movement. But if u r really concern den a visit to yr PD will set yr mind @ ease.

hi all, need some advice, do you mummies get a blender to blend baby food to make puree? which brand and model is good and easy to use to prepare baby food, esp so small in amount, very difficult to use big blender right?
any use the phillip avent steamer cum blender? is it useful or usual blender phillip brand is good enough?

i was also having problem trying to cooking fine porride, was thinikng of grinding the rice grains, anyone know which blender can do that? or how else to cook porride to fine fine?

my mum say dun give cereal cos it's proceeded food, so no choice got to cook natural food....very stressed out cos so hard to prepare le, espeically MIL may find it v troublesome to cook. help help!

Hi michelle, is there pampers promotion now at NTUC? which type is it the active type? i haven't use pampers yet cos too ex. which type is good?ay, the promotion price seems quite cheap leh 31 cents only..wow

michelle,
do you use drypers for your boy? my husband bought too many M size packs for my boy. i find that it's not a very good fit for him, and want to exchange to either an L size or another brand. asking you cos i know you have so many packs of diaper stocked at your place, and some more you're living next block to my mum! i don't mind exchanging at a loss for me, cos i don't want to let him wear the M size drypers after he finishes the current packs anyway.

fitti diapers,
after all the postings here about fitti, i actually went to NTUC to get a pack to try (they only have the fitti basic range at NTUC clementi). the fit is actually quite good for my boy, and the material is rather soft also. i think it's comparable to mamypoko, except that it's much cheaper.

jeni,
in my opinion, cereal is a rather good first food for our babies because they're enriched with good stuff - some with iron, some with dha, some with calcium etc. if its plain porridge that your mum is talking about, then its not likely that we're able to include all of these into a bowl of porridge.

Jeni

I agreed with what Sandwich said. In fact Jed's PD has stopped all his mulit-vits & iron after hearing that he's on cereal w puree rather than porridge. She said Jed wld b able to get his basic supplements from cereal unlike porridge which gives mainly carbo. Think most PD will recommend cereal rather than porridge.

Paige / Xiaoair / milkyway

Tomorrow we cfm meeting at 1215pm hor?? Any food preference or recommendation?

Any other mummy working near to Raffles Place want to join us for lunch?

Jen> oh u are working mum? How come I always have impression u are SAHM.. hee.. Paiseh...

If I can make it tmr I join u all la..

Are u gg to Korean restaurant??

Milkyway:*hinthint* lol

Rach

No lah.. I'm a SAHM. Xiaoair & Milkyway working in Raffles Place mah so go there to meet them for lunch. Wana pass stuff to xiaoair & paige.

e korean restaurant nice huh?? Mayb we eat tere lor..

Jeni

I check with Jed's PD before proceeding w cereal. I'm more careful with Jed as he's a preemie.

Jeni,
Which doctors said cereal is not good??? Is these docs GP or PD???

I agree with sandwich and jenifur. Unless you add something into the porridge, else, plain porridge has not much nutritional value, just carbo.

To answer your question on how to make the porridge "fine fine" - at my #1's infant care centre, they blend the porridge with indregients after it's cooked, like they "puree" the porridge with veg/meat. It's really nice texture for babies, but then that's only meant for babies who has been well trained to take solid, not as baby first food.

Kris, mine longest is 8 days (when on total BM). PD said it's okay if the consistency is not hard.

Melissa, did the doc say how he got UTI? Can we choose to be private patient if we go KKH - that means choose a specific PD instead of those interns?

May I know if Fiti diapers use the sticker or the velcro kind?

Jeni, doctor will recommend cereal as first food and will even give samples.

Jennifer and others who replied with regards to the organic food. Thanks. I am also thinking of giving my babies organic milk powder because the price diff is not that huge. But thinking if they are as good as normal FM.

Anyway, wondering if there is anyone not enjoying motherfood?

melissa
sorry to hear your boy got UTI, hope his fever will stablise soon.

baby not gaining weight
last wkend brought my girl for her prevnar jab. surprisingly, she has not gained any weight since last PD appt! still same at 6kg! the nurse thought something was wrong with the weighing scale and we weigh my girl 3x to make sure. PD did an overall check and couldn't find anything wrong. so i am now frantically trying to pump up her milk feeds to 150ml (before was 120ml), but problem is she doesn't want to drink! *stress* sometimes with lots of coaxing, she will finish her 150ml with some struggling, but most times she will cry in frustration because i'm like forcing her to drink. but overall, she is still her same usual self leh, still as active. PD told me to come along to the clinic weekly to use their weighing scale to monitor her weight until her next PD appt. i am worried!

flower4>
what to do about the discrimination against mummies?

I remember last year when pregnant still hear those old male colleagues complaining about having to help with those younger ones who either go off pregnant or reservist (the males lah).

Then last year after give birth, I went to clear my chilcare leave (cos for 2 kids got 6 days mah).. then my Head like not very happy.. and she got kids herself too.. hmmm..

prinzess55>
Wow.. that's a lot of organic food! Yeah, never seen babynat, but apparently selling at organic stores.. and the price at BP is only $33.50.. which is dirt cheap for organic milk leh...

Melissa>
KKH is the WORST! I brought my daughter to the A&E there last year. Nurses are very rude. Doctors also curt. My gal need to x-ray (cos suspected sprain arm). The radiologist don’t even know that for kids, need to cajole with sweets, still smug smug say only 1 person can accompany DD. My hubby went with my gal (cos I was preggie then). In the end, my gal was screaming and all, and the radiologisy panicked and ran out to get me.... then ask her to bring sweets, she had to go search, then return with 1 miserable sweet.

So when my DD had constipation few weeks ago, we went to TMC (just normal clinic). The nurses very professional (gal had to do the insertion in her buttocks). So really better to go TMC.

Regarding NTUC diapers, my DD using.. it’s prety good.

Jeni>
I think what your mum wants is freshly – cooked food. So she might be against INSTANT cereal.

There is those brown rice powder, oat powder, barley powder sold in organic stores. But all need to be cooked over stove with water. That is likely more nutritious than the instant ones from tins cos fresh mah... but a lot more work woh..

Bbq98>
Actually organic FM is same as normal ones as in also from cows (except the soy type lah). Frankly, organic should be better cos the cows feed on organic mix etc... for me, I’m getting organic FM for sure since price is surprisingly cheaper than even similac follow-on (weird!)

That’s why i was asking about the babyNat brand selling at BP now.

lil jade
organic fm cheaper than similac?? really? haha then i also wanna switch!! left with one more tin for 6mths so needa one tin for above 6mths... but dunno if the transition will be smooth...

rach> don't worry about it lah. I'll join cookiezz spree then, but thought I want to get it first and see what it's like la...

cookiezz> have pm-ed you on my orders

Just to share my baby today had his 3rd serving of rice cereal.. he had even more today... lol.. almost half a small Ikea bowl. He really loved it..

kris wah, shiok shiok *envy envy* ;P Enjoy your trip! What I like about it is "one-stop shop" food, bed, play all in the ship, no need to travel here and there. Come back share with me your experience la...

melissa very heart pain to poke so many times. I hope your boy recovers soon.
My boy also don't really like FBM, I'm comtemplating to throw or mix with EBM.

This UTI sounds scary. Did Docs say how to avoid it besides cleaning? Cos it sounds like though we're cleaning properly, babies still seem to get infected

oh, TBF can afford not to poo for a few days? I thought was the other way round, TBF will poo very easily. Ooops....

Fitti
Anyone in the East keen to order? I thinking of ordering but need volume to consolidate up to 12packets right? If keen, pm la...

princess, read the articles u gave...oh no...formula milk DHA not good for babies....milk containers has BPA not good baby either..oh man..then wat can we give babies at this rate, everything manmade is probably not good right..so scary!
