My girl was on 120ml 4 hourly for the past 2 months. Then she suddenly wanted to be fed more at night, to every 2 hourly, about 2 weeks ago, but still remained at 4 hourly in the day. So the nanny suggested to increase the amount. But I have been struggling with supply and just couldn't produce more milk. Yesterday finally gave her 150ml for every feed, using my FBM. She can finish it all, but dragged the feeding to 4.5 hours. And guess what, she slept through the night!!! Nanny suggested to give her a bit less, 130-140ml instead, so to remain the 4 hourly interval. Hope she continue to sleep through tonight :)

But the bad news is, with the increase of the amount, my breast cannot keep up with the demand. Only down to the final 180ml of FBM. If I cannot increase my supply within these few days, that would be the end of my TBF career and would then converted to partial BF.

People always say your breasts will produce BM according to your baby's needs. But I think it's not true, not for me anyway. Maybe because I don't do exclusive latch on? Or maybe because I have 1 super lazy boob? Imagine if I get same supply for both breasts, sure I can carry on with my TBF career longer. But oh well, let nature takes the lead bah....... 随缘!

My bb also perspire at every feed regardless of the weather. I have to turn on the fan else she will become smelly bb even after a bath.

I also have to same problem. So I feed her the remaining amount maybe 30 mins to an hour later. Depending on her mood. Sometimes I take up to two hours to make her finish just 120ml. But at least I don't waste the milk.

Formula Milk
Since most mothers are going back to work soon, anyone of you introduced formula yet? My elders kept telling me to introduce one feed or mix formula at least once a day now. They are afraid that once I go back to work and there is not enough EBM, bb refuses to drink formula. Any advise on this?

Ops, it's per month ah. Then I cannot start this "business" already lah :p

Or another way, don't let your baby put the toys into the mouth lor. Not sure if all the toys are safe for steam sterilisation?

erm.. sam gets a bit sticky on the head n neck but not really to the extent of perspiring. maybe coz i spoil him by feeding him in either aircon/with fan

fm suposed to be 40degC water, no? actually i bot this airpot quite gd.. can set 40/70/90degC. so if making a lot of fm, can set at 40deg, no need to mix hot n cold water.

really depends on ur bb leh. coz some bbs take anything. others prefer fm, n still others ebm. some bbs dun even take fbm. maybe u trial n error lor. but still, when bb is hungry enough, they'll take anything right?

i feel that if ur bb prefers ebm, even if u introduve fm now or later, also no diff right?

"Commando" training for my boy:
my boy usually had last feed of the day at 9pm, slept at 10pm, then woke up at 3am for feeding. think it is time for him to learn to fall back to sleep in midnight without feeding, which is a bad habit in the long run... so my hb trained him to sleep without midnight feed, just pat / rock him. on tue nite he cried on and off for 2 hours then fell asleep, last nite cried on and off 1 hour. hope within the next few days he can fall back to sleep without much fussing

really envy those mummies whose babies can sleep through by themselves

To me, the most important thing to do before you go back to work is that your baby can take bottle. Since you baby is already taking bottle, shouldn't be any worry. Whether or not you have enough supply is something you cannot know now and cannot do anything about now. Why worry for now? Since you have enough supply, it's a bit wasted to introduce FM at this stage lor, what if your baby perfers FM from now onwards and rejects EBM, you will be very very very regretted leh! Don't listen to the elders, try explaining/reasoning with them. Quote to them that you know a lot of mummies who can still produce enough after they start work (eg, Kris, Flower4, etc).

She slept through when I gave her more. So I am hoping (ya, big fat hope) maybe if I can sleep better and longer at night, my body can rest better and thus able to produce a little bit more milk? I am not complaning. It's already a very long and fulfilling journey for me, since I failed the BF for my #1 :)

ur gal got growth spurt? u on fenugreek right? ss still not increasing? if really no choice then dun be sad abt introducing 1 fm feed per day la at least u managed 4 mths of tbf, much better than ur boy right?

my boys will be returning to sch in 3 weeks time. i also dunno if i can still keep up with pumping/latching not. esp when i gotta wake up so early to send them then my gal then driving up n down for classes etcc... one step at a time la, try my best lor but if i really too stress to cont i will just switch to partial bf. i think my mental state of mind is more impt than my insistence to tbf

I can't sleep last night cos my SUMO woke up after an hour... so end up i got to pat him back to bed.. once i stop, he suck his fists LOUDLY to catch my attention.. then i pat him again, he smile and slept. If i stop, he repeat his actions again. RASCAL! Plus he's on medication so i have to give him before i really sleep...

I have never ever PUMP my milk out... terrible right! What a LAZY mummy! But actually i have some problems too... every late morning/early afternoon i get up i will rush back to my mum's place. Then late evening i will rush back to in laws' place. So i have no idea where and when should i pump. PLUS my mum's place fridge is sot sot already..... in laws' place fridge also got problem... so i have no where to store my milk! >.<

Actually how often do you girls pump milk in a day? Do you pump at the same timing every single day? Let's say if not at home, do you girls still pump?

Hmmm... as for the mat.. maybe 15mm is also g0od enough right? :) I can only get it IF i managed to psycho my dad to sponser me! LOL! Else i got no money to buy lor.. so expensive... now i already got to get a bar fridge to put at my mum's place to store milk... so really damn broke liao!

My boy just turned 3mths old... and his weight is already about 6.6kg! His birth weight was 3065g though. I think if i were to pump, i should be pumping after he latch liao le cos he only latch on for about 5-10mins... don't even know if he's getting the hind milk not! His sucking is still the same like before... never suck much faster leh....

Hahaha... your girl is really princess at home mah... i believe all her brothers also sayang her right! You ever scold her not if she's really naughty???? Hahahaa.... my FIL told my hb that my SUMO sure very skinny (because he's sick and we're back at mum's place mah!!!!).

Everything cut cut cut ah... i don't want my milk supply CUT leh..........................

It's true leh.. when I'm better rested, I get more supply. But like u.. I'm already very thankful I made it this far.

I was gonna give up BF many many times during the first 2 mths.. then hard work n persistence paid off n I can even manage to have FBM. I still rem when I said my ultimate fantasy was to be able to use the box of Playtex liners I bot b4 delivery. And now, I'm filling my 3rd Lock n Lock box. I wud have regretted if I had given up then..seeing Sam so chubby n healthy n rosy cheeked makes me feel it's worth my sweat n blood lor

yah many of us here battled with the depression of low ss, blocked ducts, poor latching and what have u to make it this far. we should all give ourselves a pat on the back! esp u lah, the number of times u went to and fro parentcraft, sweat blood to give sam as much bm as ur boobs can possible produce, u deserve 2 pats on ur back!

Ya, think she is on growth spurt. But my breasts don't produce more accordingly. That's maybe I don't pump/latch more to induce the increase? But ya, I don't and I shouldn't insist on TBF, what's more important to me is to take good care of my boy, my girl and my hubby :)

conversely, you're actually doing extremely well not to have ever expressed your milk before. because latching on is actually the best for baby!!! don't let the naysayers affect you. zander is growing extremely well. so keep up the very very good work!

thoough im sahm but in a way im like u ftwm hehe.. cos my boy takes ebm in the day i only latch him at nite n first feed in the morn thats y even if hv growth spurt nothing my boobs can do to produce more. which is y i make it a point to empty the boobs to produce extra ebm for him to cater to his spurts

For the past 2 nights, my boy didn't latch at 3am(the "Commando" training I mentioned in my previous post), so I pumped. It seems that the midnight pumping can yield quite a good amount of milk, maybe because I have slept for 3-4 hours and I drink some water before I go to sleep.

We show our love to our kids not only through BM right? so don't be stress yourself too much on TBF. *pat pat

But i'm so afraid my milk supply will decrease because these few days Zander hasn't been drinking lots. In the past weeks, he has been latching on for 15-20mins per feed, every 2-3hours interval in the day... night time about 20-25mins for a feed.. before zzz, 30-45mins and will get up 5hrs later for another feed..... after he was sick, he latches on for 5-10mins! At most, 15mins!!!! ): Don't know how also.................

I never pumped at midnight. My hubby doesn't allow me to do that, cos it'll be too tiring for me. Yesterday night was the first night she slept through, my boobs still ok, cos 7 hours only, started to get hard, but no engorgement. The super lazy boob didn't even get hard, duh!

Ya, I know, cos my #1 was not on BM at all. He grows up wonderfully :)

It was just enough (not a single drop more :)) until recently when I have to increase her feed. I latch her at night.

yeah it's hard to pump when moving ard. when i gotta pack sam up to mil's place for a while, i aws big pack small pack one. pump, bottles, teats, pacifier... headache ah

i pump ard 4-5x/day, no fixed timing lah. if sam sleeps, then i try to squeeze in pumping time lor. coz sam doesn't latch mah, bobian gotta pump out n bottle feed him.

haha how abt get ur dad to sponsor the fridge?

My dad sponser my mum $500 to get the new tv replaced liao... plus he gave my son $500 to put into his account.... LOL! The cheapest bar fridge i saw was $120 LG... but not sure if it's really good. Sometimes too cheap things make me worry too... hahaha.. i rather pay a little more for the quality!

Seriously, i dnw how to fix my pump, use it, how to sterilize my pumps too! hahahahahaa... so haven't really got the chance to do it lor.. every weekday rush to and fro... damn tired lor... plus my mum's place has 2 monsters... make me super tired lah.......

if u do wanna pump, maybe u just do it at ur mum's place. leave the pump there, steriliser etc then dun bring things back n forth lor.
 
Actually i was thinking of doing this way too.. since i have MORE time over here as compared to the other house.... i was thinking i pump during the day.... then i just store.. store for what i also no idea because if i am around i will latch... LOL! and i only want to keep my milk for 24hours.... but usually weekends i will not be back at my mum's place unless my hb stays in! So most likely won't be pumping on weekends... and most likely i will get out of the house during weekends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahaa....

How come your playmat so cheap? I see all in hundreds leh...... there's parklon and LG leh...

Hi all,

Am new to this discussion thread.My boy was delivered on the 27th of Sept. He is growing at a very fast rate. My milk supply can't seems to keep up with my boy's demand.

After latching him for about 35-45min, he started to wail as there seems to be no more milk left in the breasts. He needs to suck for abt 5-10min before the milk flow comes in and it lasts for only less than 1 min.

These days, he takes abt 180ml per feed (if bottle-feed) and can last him for 3 hrs. When he latches, he can only last at most 2 to 2.5hrs. I started to pump after every feed recently to simulate the flow but only droplets come out. I also wake up every night to express if he misses his feed.

On good days, I can get 140ml. On bad days, only 90ml.

What should I do to boost my milk supply? Will appreciate any advises. ="

for me, i always wash my babies teething toys with sterilising tablets then rinse cos i cant stand the smell. i figure if its safe to use it to sterilise bottles it shld be safe to sterilise their toys too. n im gonna use same method to wash sophie

LOL! Then how you gonna wash the sophie? Can we use warm water and wash with the pigeon that detergent or just wash with warm water? :)

My SUMO suck and suck his fist whether he is hungry not not leh........ is it all our babies doing this at the moment??

My bb is doing that. She even tries to suck both fist at the same time. Initially I thought that she was hungry so I tried latching her, but she does not want to suck. My conclusion, she just simply like her fist.
 
Princess, there is instruction on the box. I haven't read. That's why I asked shelled to disregard my question - or else, kenna hoot by her.

Apart from those who had picked up Sophie from Shelled. Anyone else who had opted for Sophie to be posted recieved it yet? I have yet to receive it. WOndering whether its my postman who is not working as I am also expecting other parcels but they are also not here yet.
