Haven't been reading this thread much cos busy with 2 kids. But glad I read the info posted by the 2 of you.

<font color="ff0000">Shelled</font>, you shared info the other day about lopsided breast. For my case, it's unbalance milk supply. The right side can only produce like 1/2 or sometimes only 1/3 of that of left breast. So when pumping, I am heavily depending on my left breast. Though my baby seems to be ok to be nursed with the not-so-productive side (she did reject a couple of times after sucking for a few minutes).

Then, I read <font color="ff0000">Rach</font> posted something about squeezing hard on the breast like squashing a sponge. I tried it today and it works!!! My not-so-productive side has produced a lot more than before, though still haven't caught up with the good side. I should continue to massage, and get my hubby to help also, cos he has more strength :)

Lesson learnt - massaging your breast is important and it helps to increase breast milk. I haven't been massaging my breast at all since day 1, but from now on, I will diligently massaging my breast, even for a few minutes!
 


Hi all, it has being day5 since i given birth.
My milk supply still very low, 30ml for both breast. Tried squeeze breast massage, but still don't see any increase yet. Guess i have to keep massaging.

Ask you mummies, does your V area stitches feel abit itch sometime. I wash after every pee and poo. Starting from yesterday, sometime i feel that area like abit itch, i don't really dare to touch, so scare i touch the stitchs.

Empress was very nice la offer to buy the stuffs needed for my confinement. She passed me the bill to claim and i got a shock of my life. $400+++++++++++++

Went through the list and saw this ginseng $299. I immediately told her i will strike that off the list. She say to cook with the chicken. I almost fainted. I just told her i don't need that. I cant afford also. She keep saying its cheap. CHEAP I cannot afford eat what? -.- no way am i going to pay the 299..

Think she ask the Fu Hua staff and they probably recommended a ton of 有的没的... ARGH. Most of the stuffs in the list i have no idea what are they for

Clara, I understand that your baby needs to stimulate your boobs and that helps to produce milk, just pumping alone just doesn't do the trick. Maybe you can try latching her on for 5 mins and the give her the usual formula. A hot drink, milk or milo before breast feeding also helps and lotsa lotsa water. My MIL also made the fish and papaya soup thing... I think it helped too.

i finally delivered on 24 sep 09, one day past my EDD! spent over 30 hours in the hospital after having admitted myself for induction on 23 sep 09 morning. took very long to dilate from 2cm to 4cm. actual labour process after water bag was burst lasted 6 hour plus.

delivery mtd: natural with epi
name of baby: wong titus
weight: 3.695kg
height: 53cm

just finished breastfeeding him. he pooed trice during this feed, so entire feed took an hour plus! going to zzzz with him. will post a detailed birth story soon.

30ml from both breasts is very normal at day 5..dun worry...
different pp have different amounts..and thts what i had back in day 5 too...
now i'm in day 20.. and i've finally managed to pump out 150ml..
jiayou....as long as u keep latching and pumping to empty the breasts..ur supply will sure increae..

when u pump 150ml, is tt the excess after baby has fed? i'm at day 18, n I only get like 35ml after baby has fed from both breasts. only if baby doesn't feed, I managed to get 80ml at day 12. nowadays, he feeds from both sides, so I don't pump cos when I pump, it's like so little, not able to make up one feed. but am concerned abt when I should start pumping cos I heard tt babies will go thru a growth spurt around weeks 4 to 6, so if we don't pump, our supply might not be able to keep up.

also, does anyone have a chart to show how much ebm babies at each week should consume? am thinking of letting hubs feed ebm at night after 1 month, but how much should we give?

nope..150ml is my full pump.. i'll sleep from 10plus... wake up at 1plus 2am (when my baby is awake..)
CL will feed her EBM...and i'll pump... so its a full pump before latch... btw.. i got 200ml this morning at 3am.. hehehe...

after she has fed both breasts, usually i get about 30ml from both breasts too.. so far i've not tried to pump in the day after she latch..coz wanna conserve for her next feed.. realised if i pump after her latch, then next feed i dun have enough... ( i feel la...breasts still saggy...)
And i realised each time i wake up from a nap, the breast gets fuller..
so...when people say enough rest + water = more supply is very true...
if i dun nap..and stay awake the whole day, i realisd my breast wont get full...
but even an hour nap after i latch her will cause my breast to be fuller when i wake up..

ermm..if u are constantly latching on, ur supply will be sufficient to meet his need....
pumping is to empty the breast..and tell the brain, no more milk..make some more... need more over here....

but i scared sometimes i too empty..then my gal wanna feed again.. not much left for her..though i also know...if she suck, still got milk for her de....

according to FM tin, week 1 - 4 is 90ml...
my gal is 3 weeks now...she's already taking 100ml...

i was told... give them more than what they need...when there's leftover, u know the amt consumed is what they need.. if they finish everything, means not enough...

but some mummies also say...however much u give the babies wilk finish it...
mm.. not true also leh..

when my girl was given the FM bottle from hospital...each bottle is 90ml...
she finish only 45ml 3 times..... when 45ml has been consumed..she just spit it out and dun wan anymore..
so we knew that her consumption then was 45ml....
then gradually we give more and more and see how much she needed...it became 60ml...even we give 70ml, she only finish 60ml...then gradually as she gets older it increases... now she's taking about 100ml..at day 20...but she's been on 100ml since day 16 or 17 i think..
sometimes she finish just 95ml...
so.. u can increase by 5ml...and see how much is left over..

yah.come to think of it...there was a period last week she just latch every hour..scare me..
now i've learnt that whenever she want..just latch.. just meet her need... i pump at nite so that CL can feed her.. so far still ok la..
pray there's no nipple confusion... at least she still take both...
but i think once CL goes back.. i'll latch her day &amp; nite liaoz...
no extra hands to wash pump for me..though not that difficult.. hahaa.. but see how...
at least 1 less person to be telling me bb is hungry, want more milk... u want to warm up the milk for her???

last time is u wanna make FM for her??
now i got EBM..so at least i feel better knowing bb is not drinking FM... hahah...
i didnt pump initially but realised its worse coz they'll resort to FM... then i decided to pump..at least can feed her EBM....

anyone feel EBM being more windy for bb??
coz its cold and then warmed up...
my bb been pooing alot yest.. not sure coz the EBM was placed in the freezer and then warmed up for her to drink.. (got "defrost" in the fridge overnite first la...)

She's still making it hell for me from 3am in the morning till 6-7am? After her 3am feed she refuses to go to sleep despite how much I cradle her in my arms, Then I got so tired I handed her to daddy... But it got worse.. It dragged on till about 6 when I took over from daddy and he K.O-ed. I thought she was hungry as she kept sucking my finger.. SO I went to "test" and got another 20ml out of the fridge... After warming it up, she put it in her mouth for less than 20 sucks... And didn't want it anymore -.-

Anyone believe in keeping the baby up in the day so that they'll sleep into the night? Am VERY TEMPTED to try that... REVENGE!!!

I noticed that same thing too! If I sleep, breast milk will replenish faster. But I find it very difficult to sleep in the day with so much to do.. and I keep thinking of logging in here :p Tho' chances are slim.
 
So sad, I can only get about 50 to 60 in total when I pump but I dont nap and she seems to have enuf when she latches. But man, I'm depressed after reading how much milk everyone seems to have. Going to have a glass of water and go nap now.
 
it is true that when u nap/sleep, ur supply will replenish very fast. cos during the nite, no matter how much baby feeds on, my breasts r still hard. then when come day time its just the feeling of fullness, not hard. come evening worst, its soft then nite time same thing again, v hard. but its ok as long as u keep latching baby on, supply will always be there and will change accordingly to meet baby's calories demand. i have not pumped for a long time too cos simply no time and i dun take naps cos simply no time too. now exam period lagi worst, noon gotta juggle a newborn and 2 boys taking exams in 2 wks time! i just hope that he sleeps and sleeps and only wake up for feeds if not i super busy!

u cannot use FM tin to compare baby's intake of bm lah! cos that one if strictly for FM babies, totally different from BM. fm is thicker so drink lesser also will feel full.

like any wound, it'll probably feels a little itch when it's healing. as long as it's bearable kind i think should be okie.

don't try to keep them awake in the day for too long otherwise they'll be too tired n gets v.cranky to fall asleep.

Because every baby's appetite is different, charts also not very accurate about how much EBM your child will need. You can try using this calculator to estimate, and then get your hubs to warm up 10-20ml just in case your bb has a bigger appetite.

Of course it'll be enough. Your engorgement is probably just going down, and at the rate she's drinking, your breast just don't get a chance to turn full lor. In fact, you have to beware when she goes back to 3hrly, you'll probably get so full that it gets uncomfortable!

But what camomile3 says is true, cannot let them stay awake for too long otherwise they get overtired and very very cranky!! Then at night won't fall asleep also.
 
i realised latching on for TBF is so so difficult...
managed to latch bb on myself for the first time yesterday for more than 5 mins continuous without him struggling! MIL wasn't around so i can try without panicking!
he was suckling well for the first time without any help from TMC! hee...

How do you do it? We've kept her up since 1pm till now, She did get cranky and cried till her mouth trembled... It gets frustrating and I don't know what else I can do. I let her suck the back of my finger and she literally K.O-ed, Did it work for your 2 boys? If yes, how long did you take and what did you do? DH asked me to let her sleep till 5 then she'll be up till 7+8...

Does the shirt being worn the other way really work for you... Or is it because you have a confinement nanny?

Wah.. 100ml very good liao.. my baby 11 days old and I think I can only express 60-70ml every 3 hours only... and I taking Goat's Rue and drink nursing tea... milk supply pathetic... But these few days got a few times latch baby on and he seems satisfied.. I'm going to press on man.. lol

TMC now dun give glass bottles, cause they say sometimes crack or break then when mummies bring back never check so dangerous... so what I did is I got bottles of milk from them then I keep the bottles... heheh

I do it gradulally leh, so there's no "culture shock" and he won't get overtired.
I started keeping him up in the early afternoon (between 11-3pm) and evening (between 6-10pm) for 30 minutes, irritating him and refuse to let him sleep. Then slowly increase by 15mins until it reaches 2 hrs. I would bath him, bring him out for walks, look him in the eye and talk to him, all in a bid to keep him awake. Sometimes if he really falling asleep and cannot stay awake, I purposely delay feed by 30mins just so the hunger will keep him awake.
It took me about 1 week to get K to sleep properly at night and not be awake/alert.
It's a long and tiring process, but if they don't sleep also very tiring lah! But you have to experiment with your kid cos they're all unique. Some are just more resilient than others.

it may not work to keep baby up in the day. Sometimes, a baby who does not sleep well in the day will also not sleep well at night. To encourage good night sleep, you can try to develop a sleep routine like bath/sponge before bedtime and some light music plus dim lights. Differentiate from day time environment.

yes, I've introduced bottle feed once a day to get baby used to the bottle. This is lesson learnt from #1. I wasn't very diligent in letting him use the bottle, just latch whole day and my mum had a hard time feeding him with bottle when I returned to work.

you may find EBM causing more wind due to drinking from bottle. The milk itself should not be the problem.
 
I expressed 3 times during this period then also quietly changed his diapers once at about 3 am when i expressed milk... lol... but 7 plus i gave him formula cause scared he too hungry then i expressed after that...

hope tonight also like that but during day time really jialat... must carry and sleep... once put him down, he will cry

he has lotsa wind.. so bb gets cranky now n then.. i just need to burp him a lot a lot... then he goes back to sleep after he burp or pass gas! lol

baby is 4 days old but i am starting to feel engorged at almost all feeds. milk production kicked in quite early, and i was leaking colostrum in the hospital by day 2. but problem is that my baby is a very very sleepy one. so it is quite a challenge at every feed getting him to empty even one breast. usually he manages to empty only 1/2 a side. then he will burp and seem satisfied already. hopefully supply regulates itself than next week will feel full instead of engorged and uncomfortable.

pam,
for my #1, overstimulation don't work. if overstimulated in the day, at night will fuss non stop. conversely, if afternoon nap for a fixed time, at night can sleep easily.

my tummy looks 3-4 months pregnant now, but i think i can start ordering the top already. by the time it arrives, i would have slimmed down already. so keep me updated if your spree comes along! re your period: tough luck. it's prob a "sign" that your body is sending you --> ready for baby #3!

now bb 2.5 wks old le... my supply still not much though.. worried.. scared by mid nex mth.. supply will gone to 0ml.. currently managed to yield average 60ml each time only.. n i only managed to pump 3 to 4 times per day... =(

tried with ru yi oil.. still a lot of wind de.. we gotten a bit used to his pattern.. even half way thru his sleep, and he cried, still must burp him... before his feed, we tried to burp him too.. so he will either burp or fart... lol

same here, baby cried for milk at 3am, then merlion, after clean up, he refused to sleep in cot, want us to carry till 6am. CL helped to carry for 2 hours, then i took over using sling, he k.o. in 5 min. partly coz he really tired liao, partly think sling bring him close to me can make him fall asleep

ur baby has baby acne? baby acne is different from milk rash. milk rash is at the mouth area, baby acne is whole face can even extend to head n ears. mine hvg baby acne now, so ugly lah! its gettg on my nerves, tomo i wanna bring him see pd/
 
Mamato6Js, should be milk rash cause the two rashes look different... chin one is red, forhead and scalp is skin colour one.. more like cradle cap... what I can't understand is why cradle cap only decide to appear after 11 days.. hahaha

but bo pian lah.. as long as he's feeding well, wetting diapers and look okie.. then I just have to wait till it goes off loh

You have CL... So it's not that tough on you... I don't.. >.< My MIL is doing my confinement for me.. BUT when BB cries me and DH have to settle her ourselves...

It's hard trying to stay sane whenever she refuses to sleep in the night and my DH has to tend to the salon in the day. >.<

To make matters worse.. My !@#$ing aircon is not making me feel cool!!! My FIL keeps thinking it is cold when it is only cold when you just turn it on. The temperature I set is 16 degrees... But it feels like 25 degrees to me... My B is having heat rash because my MIL wants me to wrap her up in case she catches a "cold" with this stupid temperature... I have to on the fan to cool myself down...

Whenever I bath and change BB.. My forehead will be with beads of sweat! I am not the kind that sweats easily... And just today I told my MIL that the STOOL she gave me to put the tub was too effing low I had to bed down to bath her... And I'm having a frikkin bad backache whenever I'm done bathing and clothed her... Pffft....

mine also act normal leh, he doesnt seem to care and it doesnt seem to bother him but bothers me a lot!! i know it will go off but im just assuming its baby acne cos i scared he is allergic to something i eat thats why wanna let pd see to confirm

I don't want to have to resort to the pacifier... I hate surrendering to these kind of things which I told myself that I would never use. >.<

Just like in labour. I told myself before, No epi... Means no epi even if I feel like I'm dying!!!

Now that she's come into this world.. No pacifier means no pacifier... But then... If I give my finger to her... Is that equivalent to a pacifier? Why is there a saying give baby pacifier will have ugly teeth huh? That's what's holding me back.. And not forgetting if the pacifier drops out of the babies mouth, they'll still wail non stop.

yes using a pacifier will cause teeth to be ugly and protruding thats why i refuse to use it on my kids too. dun worry babies have passing phases. some babies fuss a lot during 1st mth after that they r v good. my twins r v fussy babies, every nite they refuse to sleep in cot must sleep in rocker then must rock n rock whole nite! but after full mth suddenly v good boys. so it will pass u by, i assure u. meanwhile just grit ur teeth and hang on lor. what to do, they r our babies. i know how tiring it can be, esp at nite. my baby was like that too, but his is constantly wanting to feed at nite. i was so tired but recently he is able to stretch longer so im so thankful!
