btw... i'm so envious when i read that some of you can go out with bbs before man yue! i've been cooped up in the flat for 3 wks+ and am slowly going loony. sometimes i don't even know what day of the week it is. i'm just counting the days until this weekend when we celebrate her man yue. WOOOO-HOOOO! next week, i'm going to chio hb to watch inglorious basterds!

i think shldn't be a problem. i didn't ask my CL to do ironing though... coz my hb's work clothes don't need ironing one! and i have no ironing too, coz i don't bloody go out! GRRRR...!

sometimes they cry not becoz they're hungry, but becoz they need to pee/poo/burp/fart, or they're uncomfortable, or if it's too hot/cold, or if they just want a cuddle! the nurses, lactation consultant, PD all told me no need to give water in the 1st 6 mths of bb's life, if u're intending to TBF. BM is very watery, so all the liquid they need is in there.

earlier week is colic, now is bb crying whenever i put him to sleep? then i give milk then he fall asleep then i awake crying within a min then cry again.. then ask for milk.... Gosh........

Isit bb growing and my milk not enuf for him to satisfied?
 
Hi All,

How u all find PD EK Ong. My first visit is not very good. I find he like no patience and give me that feeling he want to get it done fast and see other baby.

If he do not have any patience i really feel not secure. I told my wife i am giving him another chance and in future if there is a need to make an appt with him, i will make it on weekday. Since my first visit is on Saturday. I give it the benefit of doubt that it is due to there is alot of baby is waiting for him to see.

Anyone got any view on EK Ong. My colleague say he is good. but i begin to have doubt.

If not any really good PD to intro.

Please advise.

And another question, did any mothers here prefer to take the baby injection in poly clinic. Is it really big different in the cost by taking at TMC Clinic and poly clinic? Anyone can advise.

Would just like to point out (in advance) that bb crying does not indicate bb is hungry.
And the only sure way to check if bb is having enough milk or not, is to check the number of wet diapers per day.

In the early days, baby typically has one wet diaper for each day of life (1 on day one, 2 on day two...). Once mom's milk comes in, expect 5-6+ wet diapers every 24 hours. A piece of tissue in a disposable diaper will help you determine if the diaper is wet. </font>

i know wat you mean, me facing the same thing! so end up carrying her ALL the time. hence the bad punctuation here because using one hand. She'll cry for food, feed her and try put her down she'll cry cry cry until puke milk out, then hungry again. so end up carrying her a lot.

Mummies:
My left side seems to not have enough milk for her because she always cries before 3 hours. How hould i boost the milk supply on just one side? irony is my right side is overproducing!

Felt so sad last night. I tried to bathe my toddler and he cried for daddy. since baby' birth, I have not spent anytime with him at all coz always nursing or pumping or carrying baby. My toddler use to be so close to me but now doent seem to bother with me much and just wants daddy or grandma.

Thanks. your info helps. Just treat it as they dont have to be fed for 1st 3 days. what they want is just suck nipple. I think with all the guidance fm mommies here i would be able to have a sucessful BF.

must burp leh. i saw all my aunties do that. nurse oso does that. think to burp out is to prevent the wind fm stomach and vomit milk out. we adult eat also will burp at times if dont inside us abit 'xin ku'.

sarah is right, must try to burp after every feed. some bbs will burp EVERY time (my #1 did), some don't (my #2 doesn't). but must spend at least a coupla minutes burping them just in case. if there's trapped wind, it can be very uncomfortable for them, and maybe even painful. for my bb, i find that if i don't burp her, sometimes, she wakes up after 15 minutes just cryingcryingcrying (almost like she's in pain) and when i burp her, wah... she really lets it rip man! (sounds like a bullfrog, haha) so now, i always burp her, even though she doesn't burp all the time.

Till now I'm still very upset. Dunno why I need to go under the knife... I was already 8cm dilated and bb head was engaged, just not low enuff. Gynae wanted me to go for c-sect. Couldn't she do any thing to help me push him out? His head is not even very big. I know it'll do no good to fret about it now, but really feel very short-changed and now I feel I didn't try and insisted hard enuff for natural birth. Sigh.. hope I can get over it soon.

Was wondering if anyone has any good pediatrician to recommend near Yishun/Khatib area. I'm currently seeing Dr Keoy from TMC. Feel like finding one nearer to our home for convenience.. I'm also keen to know if there is any huge difference in pricing if bb get their vaccinations from polyclinic or from private doctor?

My toddler also has a stronger preference for hubs now, which initially made me kinda upset, but I realise that it's actually easier on me that way. Especially seeing how I have to BF the baby every so often.

Do you have a nursing pillow? I notice with a nursing pillow, I could continue to spend quality time with my toddler when BFing bb, by reading/singing/talking to him. I can even use 2 hands to play tickle with him.
And he much prefers to "share" me instead of just having to go away each time I have to attend to baby.
To be honest, it's not like I have any other option also lah... But it's at least something to let the older ones not feel left out.
So now when he sees me grabbing nursing pillow, and sitting on the couch, he asks me "Read?" and then he'll go choose a book.
Of course I can't sit him on my lap to read anymore, so I just put the book flat on the couch beside me instead.
Seriously, it's better than nothing.

We do TRY to burp bb after each feed, even though its been said that BF babies don't require burping as badly as FM babies.
It's possible that some bb don't burp at all, or have burps so gentle that we can't even hear/feel it. BF babies don't usually take in a lot of gas during sucking (probably cos we have no air in our boobies as compared to bottles?) but they sometimes still swallow air through the sides of their mouths when suckling, so it's always better to err on side of safety (and bb's comfort) to try burping at least 5 mins.
Not burping will result in accumulating gas in bb, leading to fussiness and cause them to easily regurgitate (puke/spit up/etc).

What I've been told – and seems to be happening for both my boys – is that they somehow learn the skill of self-burping after a few weeks of you burping them.
Now I just have to prop K's head on my shoulder, give 2 complimentary pats, and the burp/s will usually come.
J also started doing this when he was abt 6-7 wks old last time. Once he changes to an upright position, BURP!

Princess, I am not on TBF. Not enough for two.

Itsy, there is no need to be upset on the method of delivery. So long as the baby is out safely, that is the most important. I know of someone who die die refused to go for ecsection even though the gynae asked her to. Then have to use forceps on the bb twice and when the bb was out, the bb was almost half dead and ended up in nicu.



Burping

My boys sometimes don't burp even after 20 mins of patting (be it FM or BM) - and assuming that I didn't miss the burp, does it mean that they have no wind to burp out at all? I don't know how long I must pat before I can stop.

One of my boys have been fussing a lot during the day (but sleeps soundly during the night - thank God). He will open his eyes, look around and then cry very loudly. How would I know if he is just fussing or it is colic?

I keep telling myself, bb's health and safety is more important than mode of delivery.. but aiya.. just feel that there's this bit missing cos I actually felt the contraction and everything but just not the actual birth. Damn it lah! I'm going to try for no 2! HAha

Very expensive! The shop at KK hospital charges about $180 for just footprints.. $300 plus for both hands and foots. Dunno if what Shelled recommended is easy to DIY. Have anyone tried it b4?

Just a tot.. If I go for no 2 and didn't manage to give birth naturally again.. then siao liao. Hahhaa! So will you be considering no 3? Cos I know u're also very buay gam wan you didn't manage to push K out.
 
My baby is now 10 days old, but still very sleepy. He will wake up for feed like every 4 hours. When nappy is wet or soiled, it does not affect him, he will continue to sleep.

When he feeds, will only feed on only one breast for like 20-25 mins, and fall asleep on my breast. I will try to burp, unswaddle to wake him up and offer the other breast, he does not want.

I'm abit worried about his intake of milk. When he was re-admitted for jaundice, nurse told me he can drink 60-70 ml. At home, my both breast can pump 60 ml, but he suckle only one breast which means drinking 30-40 ml and sleep for 4 hours ??!!

He was expected to be 3.2kg, but turn out only 2.76kg. With the current little intake of milk and sleepy habit...dunno normal or not. Any advice?

I fired the confinemnt lady after 5 days. U know who I'm talking about. She claim that she knows how to cook confinement food, but ask my MIL go chinese medical shop buy packed herbs for confinement when we already prepare all the herbs required for cooking. The way she clean bb eyes is wrong, the food she let me take, some are cooling and she insist can take. My maid boil barley water for my elder daughter to drink, she pour it away without asking. My maid got so pissed wif her... and more... Anyway, I asked her to leave after 5 days and I feel less stressful to watch over every single thing she does.

coz 1st day and very rush....
then at nite.. i also forgot what she cooked. ooh..that nite i wasnt welll...rushed back to hosp with bb coz she cried non stop...
so rush here and there.. come back i vomit 4 times...
so dinner i didnt really eat...
next day my mum went to buy ingredients back...
subsequently, she went to buy with my mum once, after that she does own marketing.. i give her $50 every 2 days to go buy food back..

Shelled, in that case, I think it's not colic then. One night I scolded him (slightly raised my voice) and he was stunned, kept quiet and kuai kuai drank his milk. Then bedtime, he fussed again, my husband scolded him again and he remained quiet throughout the night. Not sure if he really knew we were angry.
