Hi everyone

Haven't come in for a while. Have been so busy!

Anyway the colleague that sits next to me was on the same plane as our 1st H1N1 case on a work trip. She self-quarrantined and got herself cleared before coming back to office today. I'm just a teeny bit paranoid though, and will likely pump myself with Vit C =P

Oh yeah, I didn't buy Palmer's coz I heard many people are allergic to it.

Went for 24th week check over the weekend. I have put on only 2.7kg so far, but thankful baby is a good size. I suppose the weight I lost in 1st tri has gone to her too. I don't know her exact weight now but it is 600-700g. Doc says she is fine
happy.gif

Jess> yeah.. its done at ur house...nice rite.. but i dunno standard...i dunno when i'll be doing it also.. hahaha.. not sure if she does prenatal... so if i get her for post natal i let u all know la.. haaha... :p

mama6> i'll prob arrange with kiddo and go down with her.... abt 1plus thereabouts i guess....

Hello mummies,

I'm experiencing rashes that are very itchy on my tummy area (jus a patch across the tummy) since Friday. Not sure whether i'm allergic to certain food i ate or issit the Clarins sample oil that i've used once on thurs night.

Read that palmers coco butter is more likely to cause rashes, but i've applied the coco butter on and off and so far so good. Couldn't be that the allergy come only now??

Very itchy and i'm forbidden to scratch when i'm at home.

momoteh
i used palmers for my #1 and was initially ok, but when i got to my last trimester, suddenly kena rashes so i stopped. Only then i found out that quite a few mummies also have allergic reaction to cocoa butter

purpleclouds, claire:

oh, so could be the palmers too?? i tot so coincidentally i applied the clarins oil once and kenna rashes so i assumed very high chance the oil could be the cause.

purplecloud: any moisturer will do or need specific kind? Now i'm scared to apply anything. :p

claire: did you apply anything to the rashes or it stopped naturally?

momoteh - i used both palmers cocoa butter and the clarins treatment oil. But hardly hear clarins treatment oil causing the rash but hard to say, hormones haywired!

Now, i stopped both to see if its both of them affecting me. I just bought the avent brand "indulgent body cream", it said to combat stretch marks, moisturises, firms with shea butter, papaya oil and marine extracts. When i got back from work, i applied it after i bathed with cetaphil body wash and it did helped me. kinda stopped the itching for a while although i still scratched but i did have a better sleep last night. This morning i applied on my tummy areas. will review and see how. Hopefully this helps *cross fingers*..

purpleclouds,
hmm, i'm not a healthcare professional. but if you're having rashes, best to avoid all forms of products with fragrances and potentially risky ingredients (shea butter, papaya oil and marine extracts sounds very complicated to me leh). maybe at this point in time, you should worry less about preventing stretch marks, because if the rashes flare up due to certain products, it'll be 100 times worse than the stretch marks. besides, not everyone gets stretch marks after the pregnancy. i had very very bad rashes but no stretch marks.

good day ladies!

It's just been a weekend and I'm already lost with the flurry of posts! Hope everyone's keeping well.

Just thought I'll share something on the H1N1 and the Tamiflu issue. I recommend just practicing good hygiene practices and NOT going for any flu vaccinations till you've delivered. Even after delivery, I suggest that you check with your gynaes esp if breastfeeding is an issue.

Tamiflu is a treatment option and is not a vaccine.

Regards

sandwich - didn't know that shea butter, papaya oil and marine extracts are risky ingredients! gosh! headache!
Any moisturiser to recommend? can i use california baby calming botanical moisturizing cream on my tummy area?

purpleclouds,
they sound risky to me, but i really don't know cos i'm not a professional. california bb is considered v safe, have never heard of anyone having an adverse reaction to california bb products before, even those with sensitive skin.

morn gals!
gosh i forgot i have gynae appt on thurs morn! i wud probably be there ard 1pm also la.

Gerald
thanks for sharing on the info! but can we reject taking tamiflu if we r infected with h1n1? i dun think hosp will give u option right? i will check with gynae this thurs. while we pray that none of us will even come near the disease, i thought its good to have some knowledge on this.

MORNING!!!

DREADFUL day to start with...
had too much rest last week that now back at work had sleepless nites.. wonder how long i still can cope with....

Looking forward to THUR Shopping spree... hope it will not dissapoint me like the March Fair

momoteh,
i stopped the palmers and the rash went away after a couple of days. for #2 I used CB aloe cream to sooth my dry skin and it was ok. This time round also using the same product.

Hello gals!

Still talking abt the itch & creams, I see. Guess a lot of us are having these probs, esp with the horrible weather now!

Motherhood Expo

IS it really worth going? Got things like BB wipes, BB toiletries, nursing clothes etc? A bit sian to go all the way there then find out there's nothing to buy.

Carseat

I have a hand me down car seat. But not sure if it can be used for infants. How can I find out?

Hi Gals,
I'm from the Aug 09 MTB thread and was informed that some in the Sep 09 thread may be interested in the Ameda Lactaline pump.

Ameda lactaline pump BP
I manage to find a local shop that's willing to sell us the set at $338 (cheapest i can find retail is $368 for the same set) inclusive of the following:

1) FOC delivery in Jul/Aug/Sep (one week before your EDD).
2) Warranty will start from delivery date.
3) Free sippy cup

I hope to get a bulk order of at least 5 sets, so that we can enjoy the price of $338, if we can get more than 10 sets, will try to negotiate a better discount.

Those who are keen to take advantage of this offer, please email me at [email protected] (pls note that i am not making a profit in any way - just coordinating so that we can enjoy the discount & the warranty.)

Gd Morning ladies!

maybe organic products or aloe vera will help to "batle" the itch. cos i think they are more less of harmful chemicals?

Jul - u can wait till Thur after i go then u decide to go or not coz still have fri to Sun

Carseat - Norm if an infant can use it should have a lieing position.. as bb should be lieing in the carseat(like a V shape)..

I dun think there'll be a treatment option in such a case (ie you'll get the tamiflu treatment if you do contract H1N1).

With regards to creams, my wife's using Mummy's Tummy by Aura. Nice scent. Wanted to get her the Palmer's set but she didn't like the sticky feeling. Try writing to Palmer's or calling them with regards to the problem? Technically, shouldn't be allergic to cocoa butter.

purpleclouds, claire:

Thanks for sharing. Hope the itch can go away within these few days, else i'll check with my gyane during my checkup this week. Update you gals again. hee..

For those who dun wish to make the trip to the expo fair specially, is there anything in particular you are looking for? Maybe can list down here and preferably with price list, then those going down can help to keep a lookout and revert here?

kiddo

Hmm.. then I'll wait for your updates on the motherhood expo b/f deciding if it's worth going. Thanks in advance!

U mean if the car seat is like sitting up position, then it's not for infant liao? Hmm.. But seems a bit waste $$ to get an infant car seat for only a few mths then graduate to the sitting one hor?

Norm how much is an infant car seat? Not like $300 I hope! Maybe $100 I still can consider. I am not comfortable with carrying Babylet in the arms. It's so unsafe!

Jul - no prob!! any thing in particular u want?? Coz i do have my list of items i need to get if from the fair if the price is good!

RE-infant car seat
Norm above $199(sale price) i purchase mine for almost $300.. it can sit till child is 6 or 7 yrs old provided child dun over growth it..
Coz there are another kind with booaster seat more for older toddlers..
Wahahahaha I had been carrying my gal in my arms seating in the front seat since the day she was born wahahahah put her in car seat when we need to travel long distance or single driver...

Jul_in_week26

Think the car seats are required by law?
In any case, there are seats that cater from birth till age 4.

Car seats don't come cheap (at least those that I've checked). Mostly in the 300 plus range with some even going close to 800?

kiddo

Thanks! Biggest item wud be a cheap & safe infant car seat?

Then if u see diapers, BB wipes, toiletries etc let me know also?

Dunno leh, I feel unsafe. Hubby says carry BB better. He hears stories all the time abt how mummies give up their lives to protect their infants in their arms when there's a car accident. Piangz! If got car seat, mummy wudn't need to die liao mah! Men!

gerald

They are reqd by law. But I know & see many parents who dun use them. Prob is.. my SIL gave me her car seat, which I suspect is NOT infant-suitable. So a bit reluctant to spend say $300 on a car seat that I only need for a few mths. Sigh...

jul - ya me the one din put carseat or worst din put seat belts hahaahaa.. but norm is short distance...
u dun want the car seat!! consider giving me!!! i nid get no 2 car seat but after 4mths coz need to transport to my mum hse singly!!
my thinking onli for newborn best to hand carry and sit behind.. But in long distance i would use carseat as hand get tired... further i din use also due to breastfeeding in car so sit behind and bf the bb...

Will keep a lookout for a cheap & safe infant car seat!!

Hi all, just back from checkup yesterday. Now in 23 week, BB weight 573g. gynac said size just nice.

mama to 6js, do keep us informed when you check with your gynac, is Tamiflu safe for preggy?
I forgot to ask my gynac this yesterday.

My hubby is in the high risk area now(US). sigh....

yea... (1) it's a legal thing, and (2) after doing so much to protect our kids, surely the trouble is worth it?

I'm currently looking at a few of the convertible car seats at Baby Kingdom. I think those are more worth the money since they take from new born till age 4. Nonetheless, the ones actually made for infants will always be better designed.

Jul_in_week26
Just read the part about mothers giving up their lives for their kids! Am livid with horror at that statement! I can never imagine telling my wife something like that!

*faints

Tiwi
sure will do tt. ur hubby is there for work?

JUL
i have no space at all for an infant car seat in my car. am driving the xc90 as family car and all the space are just nice for my kids plus maid when we go out. but on days that i go out with my gal alone, she has to be strapped to a car seat. same thing when baby comes, i will need to carry him in arms and sit at back seat. its not my choice though as space is limited. those of u who are first time moms or have only 2 kids, i wud advise to strap infants in their car seat. really makes a diff and it inculcates the habit of them being in there. i have heard of stories of toddlers bawling away refusing to sit in their car seat.

infant car seat

yes, infant car seat are those that can be rear facing and can be reclined to a lie down position. then as the baby grows, legs become longer, it will be changed to forward facing.

i agree with gerald that those more value for money kind are the from birth-4yrs type. rather then get a infant seat that can only last till 10mths (eg, like the maxi cosi), then have to get another car seat for toddlers. u will end up spending more.

carseat is a requirement by law for infants and toddlers up to 8 yrs old (as they grow older, they can upgrade to booster seat only if your car seat does not cater till that age). if u dun get caught ok lor... but if get caught, you can be fined up to 1K.

but if u really think about it, its not all about the money but more on the safety of your child which in my opinion should be priceless.

jess> yup. i know. but read in the forum tat for the pigeon one, de bottles overturn easily since no bottle holders. but really value for money compared to de avent one.

settled for the avent one cos nv read the forum before i buy =x den i tot more ex shuld be better -_-" ok. misconception. but actually for avent one, de bottle holders can be removed. so will work de same way as pigeon after removing.

agree. really hate squeezing with the crowd. this june got IT show. hubby wanna get a cam to take pics of bb. but ask me cannot go. cos too crowded. he refuse to let me go to crowded places now -_-"

rach> wow. 50bucks for 2hrs? recommend leh =x

kiddo> keke. i went robinson tat time when dey got member's close door sale. oso grab alot of things liao =p left with breast pump n some misc baby wash.

babymaking> i'm interested. how's payment done? upon delivery of item? let me know. thanx.

jul> i bought mine for like 499? britax royale. one of the recommended ones. very cheap in us. sgp very ex. cos not very famous. haha. but can sit from 0mths to like 5yrs old. n seat cushioning is very comfy.

mama to 6js> ya. oso interested to know if tamifly is safe for preggy. going to wedding soon. n got alot of guest coming back from us. abit worried -_-"

Hi mommies

Re: Malay Massage
I heard that pre-natal massage can only be done after 1st trimester or something like that.. Does anyone know if it's safe to do pre-natal massage from the 2nd trimester? Or would it be better to wait until the 3rd trimester?

Laundry Detergent
Anyone has any recommendations on which brand is good for washing baby's clothings? Some of the brands I heard are kodomo, pigeon, tollyjoy etc.. But never used before. Any reviews?

Liquid Cleanser
Also comparing the brands of liquid cleanser. Those used for washing milk bottles, utensils etc. Any recommendations?

Hoping to get all these at the expo fair this weekend cos heard from friends I'll be able to get some good deals there.

Thanks!

Jul,

You check the label on the car seat. There should be, and has to be (cos one shouldn't remove the label) a label on the car seat. From there you can tell for what age the car seat is meant for. There are many types. Only those especially meant for newborn ones or the convertible ones are suitable for newborns and toddler to age of 4.

Agreed with mama_to_6Js, it's important to let them get use to be buckled up in the car seat from young.
