(2009/08) August 2009 MTBs

babymaking
My boy loves to play with cups. He will put hold the cup to his mouth. I think he saw us doing it, so he copied. It is indeed very messy cos very little water went in, most of it is on his shirt/floor

babymaking,

my boy doesn't know how to drink from straw also. he bites on it instead too. even when he was younger. he started drinking water frm cup since he was 5 mths old.

piggy,
which playgroup did you short-list? can share? i dunno whether to put him in MMI in old jurong west or downstairs my house.

piggy,

both also below yr place? i din noe there's a little skool house below yr blk. i thot little skool house is a childcare instead of those 2hr playgroup?

Zen,

schooling
different kinds available.. even now at babies stage, there are the shicida, JG, gymboree, kindermusic, LNT etc (parents accompanied)
when 18mths onwards, there are the 1.5 hrs daily type available (talentplus, appletree, etc )
18thms onwards of coz there are oso the half day childcare or full day childcare option..

JG - my personal fav. for wkend classes. coz of the engaging teachers.
gymboree - err good for hands/limb coordination espeically kids our age now
kindermusic - err good workout for the mummiese or daddies :p
GUG - i went there for trial once, do not really like it.

re: drinking from straw

u can try giving them something dry to eat before giving the water bottle. After eating bread or biscuits, my gal will gulp down the water. If she's not thirsty, she'll play with the water by opening her mouth and letting it flow down.

El-nino, you can still join the bash but for cupcake i need to double check cos the order alr closed. pls trnf payment $10 to me POSB Savings A/c 205-20519-5.

Babymaking, I visited 5 pre-schools private, 3 of them have playgroup and nursery.

Personal view about playgroup.
Babies have the best knowledge absorption between 18 months to 3 yrs and this is before nursery. Thus I find playgroup is necessary. If you r staying at home moms, then you can teach-play with them at home. My objective is for my girl to hv more exposures and be able to play n learn at the same time. Currently, she can identify 80% of things in the house n I m slowly communicating with her in Chinese. Other than this, what is next? Do I hv time? Guess I leave it to the playgroup or other classes to guide me along.

Personal view about pre-schools
1. JG. Overated. Maybe 10 yrs ago it's good... (the one near to botanic garden)
2. LNT. Generally, most pre-schools providing playgroup and nursery have covered Left and right brain training. Dont put too much hope that it will train genius but good exposure for kids.

mashy:: hahahhaha.. i can imagine.. my girls oso play water that way... juz open the mouth.. n let the water flow out.. very funny la.. duno to laugh or scold!!! hahahhaa... effortlessly..they dun even 'puu' the water.. juz let it flow like dat.. LOL~

i just realise that my first skool doesnt offer playgroup for 18 months.. i always thought have..

sigh.. back to square one.

Am hoping for those 1- 2 hours kind of playgroup for shayna.. not childcare..

BabyS, I was thinking of 1-2hrs playgroup too but the half day playgroup is very ex compared to whole day. Difference by only $100+. For example, half day $600, full day is $700. I m not sure if I heard correctly, I was told only full time can claim subsidy.

MASHY/fatbobo
my girl oso play w water that way..

then the worst part is, if her diaper is full n leak... and urine leak out.. she will be happily playing w her own urine.. any water she saw is like gold to her.. can play.

Anybody know where i can buy Soft Leather Sole Shoes for Pre-walkers?

kikilala,

think i miss out on the spree tat u organise for shoes....
sad.gif
sigh...

zen:: this brand oso not bad.. nice designs (boys/girls).. n not expensive.. avg abt $36++ http://www.littlebluelamb.com/pinfo/index.htm . there's a shop in jurong point which sells.. near the overhead bridge connection de. (same lvl as carls junior..going towards ntuc extra).

talking abt shoes.. dat day brought Mattea & Keona to jurong point.. wanted to buy another pay of shoes for them.. put them down n let them walk themselves in the shop..to choose the shoes.. both took the same pair woh! haha!! so cute!

Zen
can get pre-walker shoes from kiddypalace. "Shoeshooze" brand (cant remember the spelling...)
but i think its quite ex...

Heard that bp also have helloyaya brand.
Not bad, for the design I bought the leather is really soft, but the elastic band is quite tight and will cause a mark on my boy's ankle.
Those who bought helloyaya... is it the same huh?

Anymore mummies wanna join???
Piggy, my friend, Nicole is interested. Her daughter, Nadia is a Aug baby too. Have put in her name below.

donkeymami, will trf $10 to you, PM you when i'm done.

my boy like to drink from magmag then spit out, i'm not sure he cannot take the volume from straw or simply want to play with water in his mouth.

he's attempting to feed himself but i reject him cos its quite messy.

are your babies asking for food that they want to eat? my boy sign and he point to the loaf of bread and toaster.

For My First Skool, what does the playgroup falls under? Child care? I'm like baby s, looking for those 2hrs playgroup and not half day child care. This is the part that got me confused.

BB, half day subsidy for childcare is $150, full day is $300. Subsidy only for schools registered as childcare centres.

pegsfur, My First Skool is a chain of childcare centres, formerly known as NTUC childcare. Playgroup there means the youngest group of kids in the childcare centre. My eldest daughter used to be in their Playgroup level but its for full day.

seems like alot of pre-schools cost only about $100+ difference for half day and full day...

so if sign up for full day can also bring them home after half day?

kiki, ya u can bring them home anytime. There are some parents who sign up full day and on days they are free, pick the kids at half day. Then on some days leave them there till day end. Only thing is the child may be slightly confused cos cnanot figure out which day they are going home when.

Mich, thanks for the info. I'll confirm with them again for subsequent visits.

kikilala, I'm thinking of that too. Sign up full day then bring them back earlier lor. Dont know can or not.

Those mommies went to the first baby day out at Tampines Little Skool House. I've very good impression of this school. Maybe mommies staying at Tampines can consider that. I heard from the teacher that the waiting list is long.

pegs: I looking for hougang sengkang area since my parents are in hougang.... if i find any i'll tell u..

I know the RC at their place sometimes has playgroups, but i need to find out more info. and I know upper serangoon road there (kovan there) has a little neuro tree branch, wanna find out more about their curriculum...

Keep u informed if i find any..

RE: playgroup...

my boi will auto enrol into playgroup after he "graduate" from infant care at 18mths(cos same school)...
or i rather said being kick out automatically...hahaha

mich,
Tks for the explanation. There's a new branch of My First Skool over at punggol .. initially was shortlisting them. That means i can rule them out liao.

baby s,
Tks! Wld appreciate that

smurfy,
How abt Carpe Diem Resort or TalentPlus? Have u heard of them before? Where is the Kids Kingdom located? Er .. the Skheil montessori sounds like some muslim ctr. Is it run by muslim? (eh .. Not a racist, just wanna find out more)

pegsfur
carpe diem in punggol end. 2.5yrs back i went there. the environment is awesome.. the kids basically have lunch with the sea view available for them. but the teachers alot of PRcs, teaching english n other stuffs. kids kingdom, i dunno where but last time i read blogs of mummies who attended it. quite good review.. this skhiedl montessori i dunno how to spell.. it used to rent a place in punggol plaza and they offer wkdays 1.5 or 2hrs lessons for 18mths and above (if i remember correctly),

smurfy,

I was interested in carpe diem due to the environment! But it seems that it's a childcare and does not offer playgroup like wat i wanted.

I made a search for Kids Kingdom, it's located at Central Christian Church, very near my place. But not sure if they accept non-christians though?

pegsfur
i dunno leh. i dun think they will be soooo sooo strict righT? just call to ask lar. i think it is more about u, whether u mind ovann saying prayers n such.

sengkang/punggol childcare
2.5yrs ago, 1 of my shortlisted is character montesorri. i think i will probably let my girl go for half day childcare there when she turns 18mths. she will learn more there, instead of being at home...

smurfy,
I'll be visiting character montersorri tomorrow. It's walking distant from my place. U give me more confident to visit them. Thanks.

Pegsfur,
so far i saw only Apple offer 2hr playgroup wor the rest mostly half day. i tink playgroup /childcare also can cos they have activity 1.. i also keen in carpe Diem haven got time to go n see n i understand diff outlet diff wor..
