I requested for the diabetes test where I need to drink the glucose drink. Doing it in 10 days time. Can someone who has done of before share the experience?

U just need to fast the nite before till morning, den go clinic & draw blood. After dat u'll be given dat very sweet drink. 2 hrs after drinking, they'll need to draw another blood from u. Depending on which hospital u go to, some need to draw blood 3 times. But for me, only twice.
 
hmmm...my glucose test diff eh...don't have to fast, just take the drink 1 hr before reaching the clinic and must draw blood exactly 1hr after drinking...will be doing the test at my next gynea appt at 28wks, the drink already sitting in my fridge..hehe...

But like dat will be accurate mah? I mean if u consume food/drinks b4 the test, watever u eat/drink not yet digested within dat 1 hr rite? Then the sugar from these food still in yr tummy, den u take the drink ... dat means more sugar in yr body?

Not sure leh ... but those high risk or have past GD history will do it earlier like me. Others, if i'm not wrong will do it later like 7 or 8 mths?
 
pegsfur, only can't take food and drinks after taking the glucose drink eh, don't need to fast the night before...but now u say, mayb I should fast the night before...so my sugar level will be lower? *play cheat* hehehe...

weishy, the GD test is routine here. Have to take at 28wks...

It's not nice cos its very sweet. It tastes like F&N or Miranda orange drink, but double the sweetness.

I had to fast too. Then took blood and urine upon reaching hospital. After that drink 1 bottle of that super sweet drink. 1 hr later take another round of blood and urine. 2 hrs later, 3rd time take blood & urine.

My veins are very thin. So for the 2rd time, had to take a secondary vein on my arm. Very painful.

Results are out 1hr after that. No food & water until all the blood & urine are taken. By the time i had my 'breakfast', it was already 11am+. And my appt was at 8.30am!

it's got to do with family history too. For me, it's coz my granny has it.

i think it depends on your gynae. for me, i took at 24 weeks.

I heard i've to take one more blood test at 32 weeks to test the iron levels. so sick of needles.

I requested for it even though my urine test & blood prick test all ok. The reason I ask for it is cos my mum is diabetic so I just want to play safe.

I suspect it could be the genes. My hb was a nail biter until I started dating him and I forbade him to bite his nails. But sometimes he'll still run his nails along his teeth. My boy could have seen that and started to pick it up.

I also did the simplified GD test. Took the glucose water at home and go to clinic for blood test 1 hr later.
Dr told me that its more like a screening and not test. For if sugar level is high, then will proceed to the full test...

I opt for this, cos I dont think I can survive drawing blood every hour.
In the end, the level is high and have to go for the full test.

kikilala, my gynae also told me he will b doing simplified GD for me..he gave me glucose to bring home..then ask me drink at 8am then go his clinic draw blood at 10am.

He told me so far 1st reading wif fasting is good..so key point is the 2nd reading after glucose.

i got to do the OGTT 4 weeks later at week 25 also. gynae recommended due to severe PCOS and family history of diabetes. but so far thkfully all urine tests are normal.
 
I am buying 3 sets and 1 set without discount, so we need another RM$700 to get discount. I need to get for my boy as over here in Oz, limited chinese books.
 
kiki, you very funny eh...waste your blood..hehe...that time when i drew 4 or 5 tubes of blood, my blue black so biig la! like 3 50cents coin size and lasted for more than 1 wk!

Cherrios, get your parents to bring some chinese books over for you to read to bb from young. In N. America, it is hard to find good simplified characters chinese books.
