Bb

I can only say your gal is smart lor. Not all are like that just because u talk to them often. U can only understand the frustration when your kid don't respond no
matter how much u talk to them. Yes, talking helps in general. But doesn't mean if u talk more, they will definitely respond more. I'm saying this for the parents whose children are not talking much yet. I believe all parents have tried their best. How fast they learn is really not up to us. So don't be so stressed by it. Even though my boy started talking late,
it didn't affect his reading capabilities nor his intelligence. They will blossom at their own time and many things are just beyond us.

Jul
think I shouldn't say it's learning capability. Perhaps it's more of response? That they may be learning now but just hasn't started to respond and let u know that they know?

mashy, yeah i agree... talking alot to them doesnt make them speak faster.. they'll do it when they are ready.. like shayna, we always talk to her, giving her chance to talk, when in womb also talk to her, up till now doesnt talk (other than say "tek" when she sees a taxi and bo..)..

mashy, doesnt speak early does not mean they dont understand. They do understand most of the things you said just that they choose not to speak. I've relative 5yr old then start to speak n now a lawyer. Just keep talking to them. Sometimes I even tell my girl about my work stress hhahahaha... then I tell her I need a hug from her n she will hug n kiss me. But it takes time, I asked for hug for months liao, n only last month she started to hug n kiss me voluntarily. The hug even comes with pat pat on my back. Dont give up, keep talking, all babies are smart, they understand fast.

Dolcevita, hahaha might be BM too cos it comes from mommy.

Baby Development

My son don know much about body parts.
He only kws nose, mouth, ears and eyes.
But the eyes and ears sometimes he will forget.
When u ask him where is the nose, he will point the nose and poke inside. Alamak.
But he knows more like things if you ask him.
Where is the fan, light, piggy, tutu and etc he will response.

And kids, actually when u ask them questions I think they do understand.
My boy is more action than words. I think his speech maybe is a bit slower. I think girls is faster.
He can open a container and likes to spin things.
He can spin the toy with a stick in the center using both his hands.

MMR JAB: My son also feb at FEB 26. Haha. After CNY.

mashy

Hmm think u hit the nail on the head. Yes, it's response.

It can be strange.. I rem there was a period of time when Sam suddenly spoke many words. I nvr taught him those but he must have listened & learned. Guess he just wants to learn at his own pace & way, doesn't like 'structured' learning. Doesn't bode well for the school yrs haha

Bb
some kids don't like to hug leh. My boy refused to hug me until maybe a year ago at 4yrs old when I forced him to. When he was young, he doesn't like to be close. The sarong sling I got was wasted on him coz he refused to be that close. I had to make him kiss me too.

Yes, I agree we should not give up talking to them, but also dun raise any expectations of them. Doesn't mean u talk to them more, send them to expensive genius classes means they will be brighter. Maybe I went thru a difficult case so I understand how hard it is. It's easy when u have a smart kid who chatters away and breezes through their class with minimal disciplinary issues and lots of praises from the teachers.
It's the difficult ones that I call true parenting challenge. My cousin's young gal when told to stay in a spot to wait for her will really do that. If my children do that, I will open champagne to celebrate.

Jul,
i think sam is learning very fast.
from the way u describe him, i think his speech is good lor. haha..

Sbb

my boy spins things when he was young too. He spins everything and anything round. He spins the waitress serving trays when we went to a restaurant, he spins container covers too. He also loved to line things up. When he was young, he will rearrange the displays at the toy section. He will take down all the cars and line them up. Thank God it stopped coz those were all signs of autism. Including the speech delay. He didn't like body contact too. So u can understand how worried I am of him. He doesn't think like children his age and definitely doesn't behave like them too. When I talk to him, he ignores me and I wonder sometimes if he heard me. Sigh.

Yet, he can now surprise me by knowing all the planets in the solar system, in their correct order. He knows the facts of the planets and he knows abt the digestive system. He reads beyond his age, books that Primary school children are reading. He can read very well but yet when I asked him to spell a word that he just wrote a moment ago, he gave me a blank look.

Say he's stupid, he's not. Say he's smart, he's not either. He's pure eccentric and weird. I truly don't understand him.

mashy, i made a game out of it with shayna leh. one day we told her to stand there and fa zan. she stood there and we told her to run to use when we count 3.

so now she'll go there and stand when we ask her too.. but when we are mean and really need her to start there, we will not start counting or count to only 2 and dont say 3. she will really wait till we say 3 b4 she comes runnign to us.. haha..

mashy,
some kids are like that. Doesnt want to hug n kiss too. My niece was the only princess in the house last time, so all aunties n uncles like to hug n kiss her n want her to do so to them. One day I was outside watering the plants n I heard my niece talking to herself while wearing her shoes, " kiss kiss kiss, I hate it!" Her uncle One was asking for a kiss from her since she was leaving. Maybe some kids just want to hv their own private space.

Sound like you really work very hard for your kids. Dont give up! Jia You. Read some true parenting books may help?

sbb

No lah, I'm not complaining that Sam is slow. More of.. his attitude???

mashy

Sam likes to throw things. He will open all the drawers & cupboards & take everything out & make a big mess. I wish he would do some arranging & spinning sometimes :p

Bb
most of the true parenting only applies to a general
population. Believe me, I've read a lot. I've tried many things but don't work. Some work, but it created another bunch of
problems. That's why when pp tell me how well behaved their kids are and how easy they got them to behave, I'm sceptical. Wait till u get my kids. Ok, maybe my boy. Or just any boy. Most of the parents with well behaved kids from my observation are those with gals. Very rarely boys. Parenting boys and gals are totally different. There are exceptional boys too, but I doubt it's more due to good parenting than their good easy-going nature.

Jul
my gal ransack too! I assign some drawers for her to do that. I put puzzles there. Hehhehe. So cunning.

Last few days, she was trying to ransack a box full of knick knacks that we placed up high. Everyday, she went for it. I got so fed up, I brought down the box and told her, there, do whatever u want. She stopped ransacking and left it alone.

Oh yah, those with boys ESP those with more than one boy, give yourself a pat on the back. You've done great so far and it's been exceptional. I understand how tough it is. In order to bring them up to be great men, we will all need very good and timely parenting skills. I hope all of them will turn out great.

There will be more to come.

mashy, sound so scary! I wish my second is a girl too! If it's a boy then guess I will seek more of your experienced advices. My good friend has 3 boys, all very well behaved. They even play barbie dolls with my girl in the room during Christmas Party. My girl beat beat them, they also let her beat beat. Guess they r the exceptional ones!

MASHY

It's so irritating to have to keep picking up after sam. It's better now that i have a helper. Before that i really wanted to throttle sam sometimes!

Hey maybe i shd put some educational stuff for sam to ransack. Oh but knowing him, he'll take those toys n play them in some other purposes!

Btw where can i find a big selection of puzzles?

babys

Any type lor. Something that can let Sam use a bit of brains & practise some psychomotor skills.

Think he's very poor at that coz he has no patience with anything 'educational'. And MIL will say he doesn't want those things & encourage him to just run, climb, bang things etc all day. I feel it's not so healthy to be so one-sided.

i saw during christmas at toys r us, buy 2 puzzles get one free. so it works out to about $5 to $7 per puzzle...

Babys

no more sale already. I went there that day and got 2 peg puzzles. Would have gotten more if the sale still on.

Jul
can get melissa & Doug at toys r us. Get the giant peg puzzles coz the handles are easier to hold for them.

Never mind if he doesn't use it the 'proper' way. He's being creative. Eventually he will master it.

Bb
that's coz they are outside. The real terror is at home. Anyway, with boys will just need lots of patience, knowing that they will take unnecc risk and do foolish things without thinking. My boy had tried to eat staples and stuff things up his nose. And that's when he's already a big boy. He knew he shouldn't do it yet he did it. He looked at it, and u can see he's considering whether to do it or not. Then he just brought it up his nose!

jul/mashy,
Haha ... ovann has outgrown the ransack-drawer phase. He's now in a open-close phase though, open and close the drawers but he leave the things inside untouched. And he loves pressing buttons now ... cd player, dvd player, tv ...

Re: puzzles, kiddy palace also sells those melissa & doug puzzles, but not sure if cheaper.

Actually after having ovann, i dun mind another boy leh (if i'm not stopping at 1) hahaa ... i'm starting to enjoy ovann's mischievious ways
happy.gif
It's pretty fun to see his cheeky face when he did something he's not suppose to do, but he'll purposely want to do it and show me. Like just now, i forgot to close coalie's room door, and he went in to play with her bowl. I told him 'u know u cannot play with coalie's bowl rite?' He smiled at me but returned me the bowl and quickly ran away. Ha .. funny boy
happy.gif

mashy,

Hahaha ... he's thinking "should i? should i not?"

Ovann does it sometimes oso, esp with things he shldn't chew, like the remote controller. He'll put it near his mouth, den look at me, pretend to eat it. If i din say anything, he'll chew the controller liao.

Babymaking,
hmm kyler know how to point n say hand, nose, eyes, ear etc... i tink every kid development is diff la..dun worry...

Sharon,
i jus check Kyler now 10kg 81/2cm belongs to 50% wor Ryan only 25????

Jul,
Kyler love the melissa & doug puzzles i bott him the alphabet, animal n vehicle theme now he know most alphabet n animals liao... he also like to throw thing still can tell me throw be4 he throw headache.. but i tink he quite keen in learnin we bott him a book with numbers n alphabet he willing to sit still n follows after us... of cos after a while he will wan to look for other thing la ..

Pegsfur,
i tink their age gr r like tt sumtime Kyler will pretend to do sumting which he know we say no to test our response * shake head* dunno to say they r clever or notti.. in fact i hope my #2 is like him not actually a easy baby but still manageable but most say #1 n #2 is usu v diff so abit worry #2 will be a real terror:x

Donkeymami,
sad Kyler is down with fever on n off for 2 days PD say if the virus have not enter lung shd recover within 5days hope he recover this 2 day so can attend Sat lesson if not he goin to miss 1 lesson
sad.gif

Piggy, oh dear hope kyler get well soon..remember to ask for mc so tat centre can credit back the fee to u think no make-up class.

Just now was out with my gal and hb after sending my boy to enrichment class. We realized how easy it is to bring her out than my boy at this age. My boy ran around once without stroller and we got so tired chasing him. Luckily he liked the stroller so we stroll him everywhere we went. We can go without stroller for my gal. She will walk on her own and stay by our side. Once a while she gets distracted but that's once a while. So much easier. We wondered if it's because we are now more experienced parents, but the answer is no. It's just an easier kid. Also active but doesn't wonder off.

Piggy
hope Kyler gets well soon. I doubt he can attend sat's lesson coz should have a 24hr fever free period to declare all clear. Else the fever may come back and not so good to pass it to other kids.

piggy:: hope Kyler get well soon.

mashy:: haha.. yur boy.. "should i? should i not?" heard of alot of 'accidents' of kids stuffing stuffs up their nostril or into the ear.. (they muz be wondering wat is the hold for actually!).. hahaha.. he is exploring! but oh no, eating staple is scary! prolly he wana test himself if he had special powers?

i second alot of tings u mentioned earlier abt kids, their development, their behaviour..as like easy-going-nature, or watsoever. although i do not hv any boys, both my girls are super active n sam seng..i cant imagine if they were boys..prolly all the behaviours n all r like..double, triple.. or duno hw many folds manz!

i do talk to my girls quite abit (although sometimes i juz kept quiet, nuah there..being typically lazy.., admire them n watnot)... but smtimes i could c that they hv these little intellegence in them too.. but to me, there r alot more well-developped kids out there than my girls.. they prolly were juz mischievious n 'got lucky'! bahaha~

i guess it's juz if the kids wana bring out their intellegence or 'talent'..or prefer to hide it. some r owas showing it out.. sm will juz observe..n ya, there will be times when the kid will shine. like we adults, i tink it's the personality n character. sm ppl juz wana be follower, some simply boss ard!

my girls, smtimes they like to play with the phone..(esp at my parent's plc).. they will lift the handset, said "harro".. den knod their head..mumble abit of "ya".."errh"..watever..pause (as if listering to the other 'party' speaks.)..den respond agn!! quite cute to see them do that! but when i call hm, n my mum bring the phone to them.. they forever refuse to call "mama" over the phone..not even let out a word or sound! they juz stone there, listern to me..eyes roll here n there... it's juz whether the kids want to or not.

those with 'easy-to-teach'..n responsive kids r really lucky. at least u c the results or yur effort. but some of us, we juz need to continue..or work harder.....
anyways, i juz let them be now.. bahahaha, i dun even read bedtime stories to them anymore..since 4mths back! bahaha~ lazy + difficult (to read to 2 sam seng pohs!)

Fatbobo

believe it or not, my boy never did pretend play like this when he was young. The closest he did of pretend play is playing his trains. Having 2 kids who are vastly different made me realise that it is really not up to us. U can give them the same environment, they still turn out different. I can only offer them opportunities to learn, praise when they try, punish when they misbehave. How they turn out eventually is really in God's hands.

It's not easy bringing up twins. Jia you!

morning mummies

agree with mashy and bobo, all parents want the best for their children, but there's only so much that parents can do if the kids don't respond.

perhaps it's too early, try other stuff or come back to it again in a couple of weeks/months.

as long as we have done what we should and given what we think is the best, take it easy, parenthood will be less stressful.

let's enjoy parenthood!!

Agree with the mommies... every kid progress/learn/grow at their own pace... Sometimes, there is only so much a parent can do... Maybe its good for us to take a step back and enjoy parenthood, and the kids to enjoy their childhood! Like what my friend(she married a german), the kids are only learning how to write(holding the pen for some!) when they are in primary level! And they do turn out well...

They probably can learn more and faster when they are of a certain age of maturity...
happy.gif

bobo: haha.. the two girls are so cute lah.. of all the twins that i know, your two girls are my favourite!!

SHayna loves the phone too leh.. a few times i caught her picking up the phone and pressing 999!!! after that i unplug the phone liao..

piggy: oh dear, hope kyler gets well soon.. shayna was having a temp on mon and tues too but thank GOd no more liao.. maybe its the weather..

ya.. i tink it's juz human smtimes too... we tend to compare.

my mum used to compare myself with my gifted-cousins all the time.. so much till i was like.. heck, i will never be as clever as them n achieve so much, forget it.. i juz don't want to study anymore!!

can take other's achievement as a motivation.. take other's failure or mishap as a praise to God for what u hv been given........ so i tink, ya.. i mean.. i was trying to say.. i agree with babymaking tat we smtimes juz hfta let it be, take it easy (of cos knowing that we have already done our utmost part..) parenthood will be less stressful n enjoyable.. to add on, if we humans can try to compare less.. we will be more contented..n the related party (eg the kids) will feel less stressful n prolly naturally bring out the shine.

yup... we all jiayou!

bahaha babys.. thanks.. hehe. the girls..cute arh..they really nonsense de lar!

bahaha~ prolly in future.. our girls can "po tin wah zok" tog.. LOL~

if my girls were juz holding the handset..i juz let them be..but of cos hfta lookout too if they pressed any nos which they shld not.. (so cute Shayna..funny hw they will naturally find the digit "9" de hor!)... so there were couple of times, i too, unplug the phone... to save us frm getting heartattack, to explain..n still receiving warnings frm the authorities! LOL~

morning everyone!
happy.gif

I agree with some mummies here that different method works for different child

re: flashcard
my #1 NEVER interested in flashcard whenever I start flashing he will be bored and walk away but my #2 will automatically go to the cupboard everynite when I am back from work to indicate to me its time to flash him cards :p

re: sorting and puzzles
my #2 can do sorting of shapes at 12mths but my #1 can only do it when he was ard 18mths (think he is not patience). Same for alphabet/animal puzzles my #2 can try to fix afew now...

re: motor skills
My #1 can walk at 10mths+ while m #2 walk ard 13mth+.

re: speech
My #1 can talk and express himself very well via single vocab when he was 14mths but my #2 just talk as and when he like. Sometimes when he know the word he just refused to say out

My conclusion:
Think their character play a very important part for achieving of different milestons. :p

mashy,
my #2 also similar to yr girl can automatically go pick his own story book and start "reading" when I say stories time :p

yes, some of the times. certain tings.. Mattea will lead..others, Keona will. till nw, we'r still not really able to distinguish if within them both, there is a leader or wat. to us, they both r quite random.

or.. smtimes one will start to pick up a skill or smting.. the other simply refuse to do anything, but observe niah... den suddenly one day, when the initial one still trying to master it.. the latter will surprise us n even outshine the other.

one might hv fear in this something.. the other will be scared of another thing. hehe. pretty interesting la at times..... so that why hor..smtimes whn im with them.. looking at them play or what.. i will bcm lazy n nuah at a corner n let them both explore n create watever mess lor.

oh..sidetrack abit.. last nite the girls duno playing with what.. suddenly Mattea gave Keona a big slap! bahaha~ quite funny, but no lar.. we rush over to stop n scold n talked to her. of cos, Keona like nothing happened, Mattea cried the loudest!

Thanks gals..
last nite Kyler temp shoot up to 39.5 after inserting bullet now no more fever will monitor if anytime the fever rtn will gave the class tml a miss...

Donkeymami,
sigh i forgot abt asking for mc yesterday... so far he ok since morning so will monitor hope no more fever.. if not not nice to spread the germs...

oh dear piggy:: 39.5%.. sorry..wat is 'inserting bullet'?

n.. u can go back to the clinic to get an mc. they should be able to do it.
esp for such little kids, it's not like we're trying to get MC to 'pon ten'.

Good morning ladies. Talking about baby insert small toys into the nostril. It's not just boys, girls also do that. My ex-colleague's daughter insert 3 times n she is not the naughty type. Very good girl. So all mommies be careful especially some babies they dont tell you something in their nose. Grrrr...

Bb

it's not just the babies. My boy already 5 years old did that, or rather tried to do that and I stopped him in time. I can understand if my gal did it coz she doesn't know better. He is 5!

Fatbobo,
ok ok if he cant attend tml class will go n get the MC.. of bullet = suppository insert into their buttock... keke... heng he din struggle when we insert lo... since 6am his temp remain below 37deg so if his fever dun come back tonight again shd be ok... i bott him to the Kidslink opp Chinese Garden heng no q v fast..

that's our PD clinic. :) dat dr heng is oso another nonsense.. like cheena cheena type.. smtimes talk nonsense to the bbs!

oh..wah.... the bullet so power de arh. gd leh. last wk brought Mattea to KK..high of 39.6deg.. din bullet her leh. gv paracetamol niah..... omoz finish the bottle oso like... ya.. up down kind.

Fatbobo,
hahha tt Dr Heng tryin to be fun be baby but Kyler dun find him funnie leh lol~~~ the bullet only gave above 39deg wor... as per his instruction.. he told me the fever wun jus gone after 1-2time of medi it takes time wor.. n paracetamol not strong if their fever is abover 38.5deg so he add on Brufen also..
