How do u gals get your kids to paint? My gal gums everything now.
sad.gif
so worried she'll eat the paint. She tried to eat scotch tape yesterday. I spend more time wrestling with her to keep the pens out of her mouth than her actually colouring.

the wet tissue is really handy where come to paint stain. the moment you see the stain goes to the fabric, quickly dap and rub little bit with the wipes.

Mashy, my gal also eat everything. she eats her kor-kor paint brush till almost all the hair came off, she bites on the palletes, paint pots and the most scary one was when she managed to open the cap of the glitter glue and squeeze some into her mouth. the layer of glue stuck on the top of her mouth. very difficult to take it out! I haven't open the tadoodles yet, wait till she's really 18M then it's not wasted...but she's been looking at her bro when he's doing coloring and stuff, so I think she'll get some idea when comes into coloring.

lamagier, I've just come across there is a new range for crayola that have glitter. oh I love blings! crayons with glitters, markers with glitters, etc. that bp doesn't carry that and also local store doesn't have that yet.
Btw, thanks for the info about the book sale. But I'm not going to buy anymore books after the book craze last mth. the 3 book racks in the kids rooms are full already....

Yesterday I happenned to pass by Guess kids store at Forum. they're having 30-50% sale. the girls clothing sale is not really worth it because after sale the price is still bit expensive...but not bad for the boys. some tee or polo tops about $17-25. Designs are nice too.

The tadoddles, I see the reviews on amazon, don't seem to be very good for the kids hands when they are older and should be learning to grasp pencils/crayons, either too big to hold or awkward. So probably a good idea to let them play with it sooner.

Mashy,
I was discussing with HBB before, after I saw that JG uses dot-a-art paint bottles for the kids to play paint in class in her photos, we can empty out old glue bottles and put paint in them instead for the kids to squeeze and paint. The actual paint bottles ain't cheap, but can get them for around $39+ for 4 colours.

linsu,
use big big majong paper for her to doodle?
I did painting on my Parklon playmat. Paint came off easily. It just somehow seem to stick only to fabrics.

mashy,
MR tried to eat the ta-doodle. paint-wise, she's ok. She's more interested in squashing the paint between the fingers. Did try to lick the paint off her fingers after about 10mins, that's when we stopped the painting. I guess that's the max attention span she has

re: Playmat
Mummies with playmat, does the colour on the playmat kind of get faded off with cleaning? I got mine for about 6 months. Realized the colours are starting to fade a bit

Lamagier, mine is the parklon, bought for 4mths, so far no fading. Btw, only use water to wipe off stain, no cleaning solution being used.

Hi,

Anyone knows where to get Barney figurines for cake? Thinking of doing Barney theme for C's 1st BD cos it's the only character she identifies with but can't seem to find any figurines for the cake

lamagier... yes i tink if u clean the mat toooften the colour will fade..

re: paint
those whose bb willing to eat the paint.. tink the mummy r realy lucky! i mean it! cos at least they willign to touch the paint... edna REFUSE to touch... she cry the moment they get on her hands....zzz

Hi fattyg,

The mat is not difficult at all to fix for adults, and when ur girl is older, assembling the mat could be a fun (yet educational) activity for both of u. ;)

Heh think my boy is one of the smallest July babies - he's still hovering around the 7kg mark.

For porridge, I usually cook 2 tablespoons of rice with some pork (for sweetness) and fish, then add 1 or 2 types of frozen veggies (pureed or chopped) that I've cooked and prepared earlier and stored in small portions. My usual veggies are carrots, spinach, peas and broccoli. Sometimes I use chicken liver too.

the playmat look to cumbersome to piece it up.

poohbear75,

I was sourcing figurines for my bb's cake too. Did see some Barney ones from kiddy palace, giant and john little. check out the toys and stationery sections.

eh the mat is nice le. but it's quite costly...and if I have bigger space in my house, I will buy it. It's pretty! I know early learning centre sells that. I bought mine from there too but the normal square ones with flower pattern. just a fraction of the price.
CJs Toybox, is your price the same as ELC?

TJE, That time I did a 'natural' induce to Naomi. I really wanted her to come out earlier (she was supposed to due on 27 July) but couldn't really tahan the stupid pubic bone pain. I told her "can you please come out today, come out today!"she heard me...really it happenned! my contraction got stronger and stronger. so happy.I knew she has passed the 3kg mark already, so I felt so relieved. and Yes, 2nd or 3rd child will give you a different kind of excitement! it's a life in your body. how can you not excited.hehehe...I will take dostinex standby.
Btw, the simplest way to cook small amount of porridge is to dump everything in the slowcooker pot. rice grain, meat, bone (as stock) and veggie the last. you can make it in the morning for lunch and dinner portion (2 portions = about 2 pigeon bowls).

Last night we jalan2 to fusionopolis marketplace near my place. I'm so surprised they have everything! wakodo biscuit, bellamys milk powder(it's $53 or 56), bellamys baby pasta, macaroni, toothiepges, complete range of gerber puff and healthy times snacks and cereal. even the japanese range that I can't read, they have the hellokitty biscuit for baby (too cute!), baby wafer. omg. almost sweep the whole rack. not sure whether the price is more expensive then BPs. Cath, tmr you let me know the price ok, and you can ask me to buy next time so don't need to collect from the bp seller. save all the trouble. Gina, your milk also have. how much is agape selling. is ju en still drink that?

poohbear, buy online. hehehe...or you join the spree/ BP. I couldn't find the Tinkerbell stuff also, but in the end I bought from ebay. if you want to put it on top of the cake, it's called cake toppers.

TJE,
great to hear ur gal regain her weight.

I normally cook lunch and dinner together to save time and store in thermal flask.

Normally would use about 5 milk spoons of rice to cook under slow fire then after boiling for about 3mins, will put in 3/4 portion of pork ribs/chicken breast meat for taste. Boil for another 3-5mins, when the grain is soften, put in fish (salmon, cod, thread fish etc), 1/4 of the remaining meat and vegies (can try peas, cauliflowers, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, spinach (w red leaves), mushrooms). you can try adding red dates or wolfberries in porridge too.

For varities, sometimes I will replace rice with ABC pastas or potatoes.

If you are busy to look over the fire, suggest you put all the ingredients in a pot and boil for about 1-2 mins and dump everything into slow cooker.

re: porridge cooking
covered saucepan/pot vs slow cooker
cheaper alternative, pot on gas stove cos electricity more expensive
nutrients wise yes, simplest method i would think slow cooker better
otherwise, if use saucepan over gas stove, can put meat + veg in when porridge is amost cooked, then try feed baby everything, cos whatever nutrients should be in the water ba. water agar-ration has 2b accurate, try use just enuf water to cover meat + veg, just enuf 2 get them cooked

tje, hope the suggestions help.

TJE,
I think ceejay06's method same as HBB's one. She always have a lot of frozen puree veges to add to Edna's porridge. Prob that's the best way?

Else small portion + max nutrition = baby vitamins

guess what - today i open the fridge and saw 2 packs of my frozen ebm thawing. i thought all finished. must have been recently discovered in the freezer by my helper. pumping seemed like a lifetime away.

Silly question, but is the pre-packaged fish from NTUC safe to portion out and freeze? I always buy from the wet market but now it's under renovation, so am getting my fish from NTUC instead. I know sometimes Cold Storage will say 'thawed for your convenience, do not refreeze' but just wondering...

ETirto,

My prices are 20% cheaper than ELC's, and currently I'm having a promo - additional 5% off for first 20 customers. So the $199 mat at ELC is going for $152 after discount - can consider?
wink.gif

My house is not very big either, but I still couldn't resist buying it myself haha. The gd thing abt the tessellation mat is that u can make it as big or as small as u want.

sunnyduck,

I think if thawed already best not to refreeze. That's why I also don't dare to buy fr NTUC. If not maybe check with NTUC if it has been thawed?

sunnyduck

it depends on the fish. Some are fresh, then u can freeze. Some like Cod is thawed. They also indicate in the packaging like Cold Storage.

Mashy -
How about meats like chicken and pork? I guess they should be fresh right, like from the wet market?

I feel so suaku, like never go supermarket before. :p But I do prefer the wet markets, and now it seems like they're all being taken over or demolished!

Read this from the web.. tot of sharing..

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: “I am blind, please help.” There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”

The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.”

I wrote: “Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it.”

Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people that they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have.. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

Poohbear,

how big is your cake?

I actually bought a soft toy to put on my #1's b-day cake, earlier this year. bec her cake is big and she gets to keep the toy of her fav character. her's was Care Bear.

I'm planning to do the same for #2's b-day cake.. currently #2 fav is Mickey.. finding the soft toy is easier then find the cake topper.

I found another paint-play idea online! Check out http://lets-explore.net/blog/2009/10/paint-bag-writing/

Using a ziplock bag, put reasonably thick paint in it, flatten it out on a children's table/even kitchen tray, stick it down (or even seal down the edges if you like), and the kids can so-call draw with their fingers on it (trim those fingernails first?). Post suggests using cotton swabs for the older kids.

Saw another alternative of the same thing is using black paint instead, tape it over a rainbow-color background, so that when the child squish the paint, varied colours shows thru the bag.

Hi all,
I need help here. I forgot my son's chinese birth date.
My son was born on 14th Jul 2009. Anyone has a 2009 calendar or child's birthday is near to my son? Appreciate your help.

Mommies wif combi strollers
Do u find the combi stroller not upright enough for baby's sitting position? I've adjusted to max I think. Mine is the miracle turn type. Not sure if it's only this model or my set.

re: temper/behaviour
I start to foresee 'problems'. My gal used to be a quiet type but now hohoho.. she won't stay still during every changing & will throw tantrum by screaming! gosh! when I scolded her, she'll 'talk back' to me.. with very fierce & loud sound.. how to stop this? I lost temper yesterday & beat her little hands.. after that, heartpain..
sad.gif
Any better way to deal with this? I dun like violence unless necessary..

Linsu,
my gal always behave like your gal too. She will start fake crying and scream. Her dad always ask me for help. To me, i dun care. I still change for her until i am done. I pretend that i cannot hear anything.

Peanut,
If you going to buy the melt, can i tompang you?

Linsu,
I just want to let her know that no matter how she cry or throw temper, she still have to get change. Now i change for her, she will keep quiet and be a good girl. If i am not around when her dad help her changing, she will become a big monster and bully her dad. I know you also dun want to beat her just you really cannot tahan. Remember we are great mother just we are doing in different ways and method
